Small stall in Chinatown with 2 seats inside for waiting! Service for tanghulu was quick, but the drinks take a while longer despite us being the only party

(Dec 2025) Finished fruit basket assembly before gift wrapping
    Aly C.

===TL;DR=== - Assembled a fruit basket - Regular basket $28, weave baskets are close to $50 - Choice of fruits are additional cost ===TMI=== It's the holiday season so I wanted to see where I can buy a fruit basket to gift as a gift. Who knew it'll be so hard to find one nowadays (is this consider outdated now? haha)!! Luckily I stumble upon this place via XHS so I paid them a visit. Off the bat, this store is covered in fruits. They have it all.. from your normal grocery store fruits to seasonal ones to exotic ones, you name it. I'm so glad they had a variety of fruit basket and box choices where you can choose which one fits your needs and spending range. I chose the basket and co-selected the fruits I wanted. The lady there was super transparent, professional and nice. There would be fruits I ask for and she said she won't recommend it if they're not good or not in season. She was also helpful in the selection process since she knows what's right for the season. She was also very transparent with the fruit recommendations as some are more expensive than others so the choice is on your court. If you also want to assemble a fruit basket, you can either let them know ahead of time via phone and they can assemble one for you to pick up. The second option is you can visit them in person like me, this gives you a choice to select/ co-select/ or have them select the fruits. The whole process takes about 30 mins in store. The lady told me they open at 8am but they need time to set up the storefront so if you decide to assemble a fruit basket in person, earliest time they'll be ready for that service will be 10am. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. It was almost like watching a concept came to life, especially when she was doing the final wrapping! I wanted this fruit basket to be a very good one so mine was about little over $100 for the final product since I went with some premium fruit options - couldn't be more content. Again, they're super flexible with your price range and which tier of fruits they recommend so have no fear. Highly recommend this experience to anyone! Side note: they also sell fresh smoothies and other goodies on the side so give them a try!

Again, some history here. I don't remember what occupied this store other than it being flanked by the Grandview Theater and a Chinese book and magazine store. I remember browsing at the book store for Hong Kong magazines that had photos and news about popular HK movie and TV stars. I was entranced with kung fu, specifically swordfighting movies then. About twenty years later, a couple opened a produce store that specialized in exotic and Asian fruits. The variety ranges from cherimoyas, dragon fruits, longan (dragon eyes), lychees (domestically and Asian grown) when in season, papaya, and other basic fruits. My mom used to often wander here to shop for our family as she enjoyed durian (an acquired taste for me). The ownership of this store has changed twice since the original owners retired with the most recent being in the past year. Several of the staff are holdovers from the previous business and are helpful and knowledgeable about what they sell. Good spot to find those difficult to find and, in most cases, higher end fruit varieties. Be careful though as they also tend to upsell some of their items.

My favorite drink here is the papaya crave. It's fresh milk and papaya blended together. Their sugarcane is also 100% fresh and made upon order. You can see the canes go through the juicer at the front. I've also liked their tea drinks and blended smoothies too. Being connected to a fruit shop means that the quality of the fruit never misses. I also like that the ice levels can be adjusted. You can also tell them "no sugar" but I don't think they add any additional sweeteners.

Got some boba drinks and the strawberry tang hulu. Boba drinks are so so, so of the tapioca pearls very hard and chewy while others were fresh. My strawberry matcha latte was so so, I liked that they used fresh strawberries in the drink but not enough matcha in the drinks. That strawberry mango smoothie was actually pretty good. The strawberry tang Hulu was sweet and the extra sugar stuck to the teeth.... Make sure don't go to dentist after that. Small store and they make their drinks in the back. Service was ok.

My wife and I were walking around Chinatown looking at all the different shops when we ran into Fruitful Dreams. They had a counter set up selling tanghulu and were interested because we never tried them before. Pricing is pretty fair compared to other places. I will say buying tanghulu and trying it while walking the streets has a different feeling than buying them at a cafe. It was a nice random find where the food did not disappoint and the lady working the counter was super friendly and welcoming.

Came here because my daughter loves tang Hulu. They tried to get us for buying 2 and then you get juice. I was all in until I couldn't get sugarcane juice. I also then asked how much each one was and the prices are not displayed they are $9 each so I kindly declined the offer and the sales girl was visibly pissed. The tang Hulu was ok but it wasn't notable.

Hi Sweetie Tea and Treats had a new sister café at the opposite side in a pleasant Chinatown slope of Jackson St. It'd be better for me to check that place out which is bursting with more juicy inspiration. First to look at, some incredible variety of fresh fruits on the market, run by a few Cantonese and Taishanese speaking ladies. Next to it, a colorful bubble tea and dessert café which is absolutely known as Fruitful Dreams! Much to decide if I come back to Fruitful Dreams the next day. For sweet crunchy various fruits on the skewers, I rather go to Tanghulu for one. This time was the right time to try other fruit flavors that has never been on my radar. Korean Melon Juice (not smoothie) was my last big taste tester. Felt like lying on a large cozy sofa when I had a sip of a new gourdy flavor. There are plenty of other numerous fruits stocked in Chinatown that I have yet to get to such as star fruit and wax gourd. Durian had given me a lingering aftertaste since it's a stinky fruit. That's why I personally stopped trying one. Props to the pretty ladies who made Fruitful Dreams come true for all walks of life. I must say this dream café must be a keeper.

Fresh fruit juice caught my eye. I was able to mix different fruits which was an extra plus. I got the pear, Korean melon and orange juice mix. Definitely fresh and no added sugar. I will definitely come back when I'm in need of a good cup of fresh fruit smoothie or juice.

Their sugar glazed fruit on a stick was so good! It was just the right amount of crunchy glaze and the fruit was very sweet. This was my favorite thing I bought all day in china town!

Their sugar cane is so fresh and you can get it in a sugar cane bottle for $12. It was a big size so you can definitely share it between two people. This place used to be called Juicy Fruit, but it closed down. Luckily it's still just as good, I'm assuming they're rebranding because they have more drinks and toppings now. I came here alot and it's a hidden gem in Chinatown SF. The ladies making the drink are always really nice and tell you which fruit is fresh to blend or not into juice. I will recommend this to everyone.

Been loving this place recently for their fresh fruit smoothies! They have a huge fruit selection and don't use any additional sweeteners in their smoothies and juices. We always call ahead and the drinks are ready by the time we arrive. Happy to see healthier drink alternatives in the neighborhood!

Long tanghulu and free short one (for following their socials) and sugar cane juice
    Zuri G.

The tanghulu display caught our attention - we decided to get a long fruit tanghulu and a sugar cane drink with no ice. The employees were quite nice but here's what we thought about the food. The strawberries on the tanghulu were MASSIVE. All the aunties were asking about them because they are a fairly new store and many people were attracted to it. The sugar coating on them however was a little too thick - it was very hard to even take a bite of the fruit. It was also quite pricy for some tanghulu, but it's SF so what can you expect, right? Would I recommend? As an Asian who has had tanghulu in China, no not really. It's good for the people that haven't tried it before though. They picked the good fruit but the sugar is just too thick. The sugar cane juice was ok.

custom smoothie w/ peach, watermelon, guava, and mango. So fresh and yummy!

I'm always hunting for spots like this because I have a weakness for those over-the-top, Instagram-worthy desserts that look like diabetes in a dish. Like most places in this genre, A Buttercup is small, modern, and minimalist with limited seating. If you plan to go, aim for off-hours unless you enjoy waiting in line for sugar. The decor is cute and trendy, perfect for photos if that's part of your dessert ritual. As they say, "you eat with your eyes first," and when it comes to presentation, this place definitely gets an A+. The desserts look stunning and set high expectations. Unfortunately, that's where things started to crumble. It's like going to see your favorite artist live. You've watched the videos, memorized the songs, and paid for the experience. But instead of the electric performance you imagined, you get someone lip-syncing and barely connecting with the crowd. That was this place in dessert form. We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

The lychee black tea was INCREDIBLE, strong, strong tea and fruit flavor, perfectly creamy, and not too sweet. The more memorable of the two, however, was definitely Auntie Kendra. It was a vanilla base with salty plum juice, passion fruit, and preserved lemon peel. The delicate vanilla, the lemon aroma without the sour tang, the floral, exotic passion fruit, and the unexpected punch of salt and earthiness from the plum juice, this is a WHOPPER of a flavor. Every bite allowed me a new appreciation of the layers of flavors in this scoop. While a bit pricy, Garden creamery is on par with the other local ice cream spots in SF and well, the flavors and my enjoyment of them speak for themselves. I will definitely be making more trips out here to try their other flavors!

Quality/Quantity - What?!?! Another business that I do not have a review on?!?!…read moreBut I see my pictures from the past...? We (my wife and daughter) are regular customers here. 3 people in line when we got here before they opened and customers in line after us, congrats on your success. A simple menu done well. My wife ALWAYS gets the Kiss of Matcha; their signature item. And my daughter mixes it up, trying everything (at my expense, lol). Ambiance - A small take-away location. Street metered parking, free on Sundays. Service - Self service kiosk. Price - $21, expensive, but that is the cost for quality. And my wife and daughter are worth it! Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success at this location since 2022 and with your 3 locations.

Kiss of Matcha is a dessert café centered around matcha-based drinks and Japanese-inspired sweets…read more We walked into a cozy, compact space with a focus on matcha flavors, offering everything from soft serve and parfaits to lattes, hojicha drinks, and small desserts. The concept works well for anyone looking for a place that treats matcha as the main ingredient rather than just adding it as a trendy flavor, and the energy of the shop stays calm and inviting, making it a good spot for a focused dessert stop. The biggest highlight is the matcha soft serve, which has a stronger tea flavor compared to many sweeter matcha desserts. We ordered a cup and found the flavor leaning slightly earthy and bitter, giving it a more authentic matcha profile while still staying creamy and approachable. The Kiss of Matcha Parfait is another standout, combining different textures with matcha, toppings, and dessert elements that make it feel more complete than a simple scoop. The layers of the parfait were well composed, with the matcha soft serve, mochi, and crunchy elements coming together in a way that kept each bite interesting. The hojicha options are also worth trying if you prefer a roasted tea flavor that is smoother and less intense, and the hojicha soft serve offered a warm, toasted note that contrasted nicely with the brighter matcha. The menu has a nice mix of drinks and desserts, with items like croffles, mochi, and dango adding more variety beyond the usual matcha latte. The croffle is a good pairing with the drinks since the crisp texture works well with the richer flavors, and we found it held up well against the cream and toppings. There are also non-matcha options like vanilla soft serve, which makes it easier to visit with a group where everyone has different preferences, and the variety across the menu gives you room to explore beyond the matcha offerings. The space is smaller, so it feels more like a quick dessert stop rather than a place to spend hours. Seating is limited, but the cozy decoration and outdoor seating options make it a comfortable spot to enjoy your order when space is available. The indoor area is thoughtfully arranged, and the outdoor seating adds a nice option for warmer days. Service can vary depending on how busy it gets, but the overall experience is centered more around the quality of the desserts, and the staff are friendly and efficient when handling the flow of orders. Kiss of Matcha is a strong choice for matcha lovers looking for desserts with a deeper tea flavor. The combination of quality matcha, creative dessert options, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a spot worth returning to, especially if you enjoy trying different matcha creations. The balance of authentic flavors, thoughtful presentation, and a relaxed environment makes it a destination for a more intentional matcha experience.

I knew this place was the real deal from the yelp pictures and I'm so glad I came here for dessert. It was so hard choosing a base flavor, but opted for the strawberry with passion fruit glaze and oh my god this was life changing. The texture of the ice itself was light, airy, and not too sweet, which is perfect for me. The passion fruit glaze added that depth of fruity flavor and honestly this large size was more than enough to share with 2 people. Parking: it's hard to find around the area, so good luck. The shop itself is small and you can't really eat inside but they have tables outside you can enjoy. I will be back for more and bring some friends to check it out!!

A very accurately named store! Can't go wrong with shaved ice for dessert, no matter the weather…read more They have so many flavor options that literally cover an entire wall, with a plethora of toppings too! All of their flavors sounded good, and I wish I could sample all of them. I ended up going with the Valencia in a regular size so I could avoid decision anxiety; this was a preset bowl of horchata shaved ice with different toppings that was exactly what I was craving. My friend got the other preset option, Cereal Killer, which tasted just like fruity pebbles ice cream as promised. It looks like a lot when first presented to you (like so high and so fluffy), but as you eat it, the toppings start making the ice sink lol. A more manageable portion size after that :) Their shop is small with not much waiting room besides a bench against the window, and I think most people go to their outside tables to eat their shaved ice. Not super ideal for cold windy evenings like when we went, and we huddled in my car to finish them. Definitely mind any shaved ice that might topple over the edge when you first dive in since they pack it real tight. Worth your moola! I will absolutely come back to try other flavors and still order a regular just for myself :)
