First, I loved that this place was open before 9:00 a.m. and they offered so many healthy options: salads, breakfast , natural juices , diet juices , tortas, smoothies , agua frescas and snacks. The cashier was quick to greet us upon entering and gave me some time to figure out what I wanted. I opted for the Raise the Dead juice, which consisted of orange juice, beets, celery and carrots. I am extremely disappointed by the way I was treated while placing an order today. I am bilingual and naturally alternate between English and Spanish when speaking. During my phone order, I politely asked for an agua de sandía, and the woman taking my order responded in a rude and condescending tone by asking, "Are we speaking English or Spanish?" That comment immediately threw me off and honestly felt humiliating and unnecessary. The situation only got worse when I was belittled for not knowing the difference between an escamocha and a bionico. At other places I've ordered from, they've been referred to interchangeably, so there was absolutely no reason to mock or talk down to me over it. When my fiancé went to pick up the order, the employees made another petty comment trying to joke about the situation, which made him uncomfortable enough to tell me about it afterward. I came in personally to address the issue because no customer should be treated that way. The employees suddenly looked nervous, and one of the girls admitted that her boss, Marta, was the one who took the call. While I was explaining how disrespectful the interaction felt, she laughed during the conversation, which made the entire situation feel even more dismissive and unprofessional. It does not matter what language someone speaks or how they alternate between languages. Many people in this community are bilingual, and nobody deserves to be belittled, mocked, or made to feel small for that. The lack of professionalism, empathy, and accountability shown tonight was honestly shocking. My favorite Frutas in SD, I've been to a few of them & this one is my favorite. As far as the food goes it's good & taste the same in all the ones I went to which is a good thing because consistency of the taste of food from the same small businesses is hard to accomplish & a good thing when you can. Tho the food was good in all the 3 locations I went to the service wasn't. And that's why I like this one better, the service at this location was friendlier & more attentive & FASTER! For some reason the other ones I've gotten too are slow even when it's not busy but not here the workers are fast, if it's busy or not & just friendlier. My favorite items here are the Tuna Sandwich or melt, they have great tuna here & the Torta De Lomo. Frutas over all probably has the best Lomo in SD & this place makes it with love. They have good smoothies & drinks too & I love their fruit bowl with honey & cottage cheese & their small Pico. I'm also a fan of their Lentil Soup as well. This is my favorite spot to visit in Chula Vista. Hands down an underrated sandwich shop that sells fresh fruit, smoothies, juice cleanses, and fresh fruit snacks. I have visited this spot 25+ times in the last five years. All throughout Covid 2020 and part of 2021 I had my lunch here and enjoyed every morsel of food delicious food. Preparation is like a homemade sandwich. Bread is toasted, lightly buttered, breaded steak fits the sandwich like a glove. Lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickled jalapeño slices compliment this torta sandwich quite well. The level of thought put into a simple sandwich boggles the mind. This spot focuses in on the food chemistry of the torta sandwich, and they have mastered the portion sizes just right so you don't have to bother with any prep or post-cleanup work at home. Walking along Broadway and my sister and i chanced upon this place. I haven't had tortas in a while so i was somewhat excited to try theirs. We ordered Bionico and Lomo tortas! Oh my goodness! I've been going to Frutas since I was little for fruit salads and juices. The prices have gone up over time and I feel that they are getting stingier with the fruit they give. I recently ordered a large fruit salad and the container was not full like they used to give them. I had a chicken wrap for the first time and it was small, not that tasty, and $12. It felt ridiculous to pay that. I will still be coming back, maybe not for the fruit salads but for the fresas con crema which are so good. And for the juices too. We have ventured here before COVID and when the shopping center had more stores... its located in the other section from GTM, AutoZone and DDs Discount...shopping strip. Parking is always brutal even though it seems there should be plenty of parking for the Number of stores that are actually open. We normally leave our car on the otherwise of GTM and walk over. There is still no seating allowed inside as of 9/9/2021. Staff is friendly and quick with service. I heard the tablet ping (I believe them to be pickup orders)... while we ordered and waited a handful of people came and went (most orders were pickup)... The menu is extensive and munchkin had his heart set on a Raspado but they no longer have it on the menu (even though its still listed on their website) and ended up with a Strawberry Smoothie made with water and not milk. I ended up with the "Raise the dead" juice. Munchkins drink was cold but almost a thin consistency (compared to a thick smoothie we were expecting) but the taste was good, he loved it. I on the otherhand did not care for it, didnt taste like fresh strawberries more like a strawberry syrup. My drink was warm at best. I didnt ask the ingredients in it and couldn't find it online but looked good in pictures.... I couldn't really pinpoint all the flavors I was tasting and while I wanted to enjoy a cold refreshing juice during the mid-heat of the day... I felt I either had to toss it or drink it fast and not savor the flavors because it was getting warmer by the second on the way back to the car. Watching the front, it didnt appear any of our drinks were made in the front and ithey drinks appeared to have come from the back of the house.... when all the juicing stuff appeared to be in the front. In any event, masks are still required and the menu is extensive and fruit in front looked freshly cut. Atmosphere inside seemed spacious as tables are off to the side. Very disappointed in torta. When I got home and I was about to eat it, I unwrapped it, and it was all soggy, falling apart. The bread was broken. I was very disappointed specially, because the torta is so expensive and on top of that it was toasted they've never toasted it before. I feel like they toasted it to hide the sogginess of the bread that they were giving me, all of the bottom was soggy. I also had to eat it with a knife and fork in pieces. The lettuce was wilted.
