Tried both the classic Nashville Hot Chicken (med) and the Spicy Butter (mild). I prefer the Nashville because of the coleslaw and sweet pickles that cut through some of the fattiness making you want more. Spicy butter, you can taste the butter and the mild sauce has a touch of sweetness that I like. I'm not a spicy eater, but the medium is very tolerable, if you like things hotter, do hot or higher. The fries are cut from real potatoes, but they do tend to go limp. Seasoned fries are more black pepper and cayenne flavored. read more

Quick, window-service (currently) restaurant that offers several variations of fried chicken. I went for the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich, which was a very good paired with their Coop Sauce. There was plenty of meat in between, as well. This would definitely be up there in terms of top chicken sandwiches around. Their seasoned fries were great from a flavor perspective but cooked a bit much decreasing the overall enjoyment as they were a bit blackened. this is THE PLACE! It has become my favorite place in Chicago. Whenever I can't think of what to have, it's always the answer. The tenders are so huge without being disturbing or unnatural and so juicy, all white meat. Crispy and tender at the same time. A tough combo to achieve. Same with the sandwich. Portion size is perfect. Finally satisfies my spice cravings. I love the Insanity RIP the best. Hey guys. The person taking the order on the phone repeatedly couldn't hear us because the music in the background of the restaurant was a loud-ass trap concert basically. It took several minutes of repeated sentences to get our order down. When we arrived, the order was completely wrong. I feel bad for the girl taking our order. How about you guys talk to your managers about LOWERING the volume of your music to a normal level so that you can function as a business. Quick service, food came out super fast, they have a kids option. I got medium thinking this would be similar heat levels to Hattie B's in Nashville but it's much weaker. I should have ordered hot. I have been meaning to try Fry the Coop for over a year but, with COVID it had just slipped my mind. After seeing a viral Tiktok video I was reminded that I needed to try it asap! The service was pretty good, you order at a counter and then your food is brought out to you. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken (no coleslaw), medium temperature, with a side of mac and cheese. I thought the sandwich was a little bit on the small side but, the chicken was seasoned well and very juicy, I also really liked the thousand island sauce that came on it. The mac and cheese was ok, I will probably opt for seasoned fries the next time but it wasn't bad. Surprisingly, they have a bar on the inside of the restaurant. I've recently been on a quest to find the best hot chicken in Chicago. I'm not a huge spice gal, but I love when my chicken sandwich has a good kick. This is my fourth stop on my hot chicken journey, and I think it may be the one. I've had two chicken sandwiches from here now (two days in a row!), with medium and mild spice. The mild is absolutely perfect for me. The medium was manageable but I was drinking water and dunking in ranch with every bite. I also tried a taste of a "hot" and my mouth was on fire for a solid 5-10 minutes. It's hard to believe there are still two spice levels above that! The chicken itself is very high quality white meat chicken without any weird bits. The sauce on the sandwich adds some nice flavor as well, and the pickles are perfect. The bun is soft and melts in your mouth with the sandwich. I didn't get coleslaw because I don't like coleslaw. I got both ranch and honey mustard as sauces, and they were both excellent! My boyfriend got a hot chicken and waffles, and let me tell you, it was HOT. He likes spicy things and even he was practically pacing around and looking for milk in my fridge (I'm lactose intolerant, lol). Next time he got medium, and he didn't even need to drink water. One qualm for him would then be for there to be a spice level between medium and hot at this place. The Mac and cheese is really yummy! The fries were alright. Maybe they would have been better if they weren't steaming in the takeout container for several minutes. Overall, highly recommend this place!! I'll definitely be back again soon. read more

I just ate at Lincoln Park Fry the Coop. It was the most unsanitary preparation of any food I have ever seen. My food was contaminated with unwashed hands from the register. Then, the woman picked up my cooked chicken with the hands she picked up the raw chicken. She seasoned my chicken by rubbing the chicken with the same hands. We tried this place after a friend recommended us so we decided to order sandwiches for a Saturday date night in. My boyfriend got the Nashville chicken sandwich in a medium level of heat and I got the honey butter chicken sandwich in hot and let me tell you it definitely had a kick to it. It's a gem that deserves all the fame it gets. I doubt I will love any other chicken place in Chicago as much as I love Fry The Coop. The chicken here is amazingly moist, they do NOT lie about the spice, and the staff here is amazing. They take their time to make each batch fresh. Every time I come here I order the chicken sandwich while my girlfriend orders the chicken tenders. Everything about the meals is absolutely perfect There is also a bar in the restaurant which I was not able to experience due to the virus crisis. But I hope to come back one day and try it again. First and foremost, be aware of their spice levels. The heat levels are nothing to be messed with. Keep in mind, ya girl loves it hot. I'm a vindaloo curry type gal - I enjoy the sniffling and slight burn. However, this place means spicy when they say spicy. It's not like the really hot Indian or Asian style - it's honestly intolerable. My fiancé who can tolerate cajun spice much better than me was in actual pain. We ordered the THIRD spice level. So it went mild, whatever the second spice level is, to spicy as #3. I got a fried chicken sandwich and he got the tenders. Both were completely inedible - I'm not even exaggerating. When I called to order, the cashier did say "it's spicy", which I in turn though great! We typically ordered a spicy level at any other Chicago Nashville chicken joint, so what's the difference? Again, the difference is that it is inedible here. I wish the cashier really harped on the fact of how spicy it was going to be. We even ripped the coating off and we still couldn't eat our food :( It was a huge bummer. The only reason I give them four stars is because you could tell how absolutely delicious it would've been had we understood the spice levels. We'll likely still give them a second try but we've clearly been warned. Another tip is using doordash before calling in and placing an order was a $10 difference. Good chicken sandwich that only took 10-15 minutes from ordering to pick up. I didn't have to wait long and they called my name when my order was ready, very quick and easy process. The Nashville chicken sandwich was tasty. The bread and toppings/sauces were really good and I particularly liked the sweet pickles on top. I ordered medium spicy and didn't find it spicy at all so if you want heat, definitely go higher. The chicken was well breaded and relatively moist so overall it ate well. The fries- great flavor and seasoning and I am a sucker for nacho/you-know-it's-not-totally-cheese sauce. We ordered the regular Nashville fried chicken sandwich and the spicy butter sandwich both in medium. Order came quickly! The regular Nashville chicken was solid all around but lacked something slightly to put it top of the flock 7/10. The butter was our favorite, there was something about the spice that twisted into a full flavor when eating 9/10. Potato salad, possibly the best I've ever had Fries, tasty The sandwich was excellent & I finished it - but the amount of sweat pouring off of my body was not normal. I don't understand how they have 2 spice options that are hotter than Hot. No amount of alcohol or poor decisions could make me try any higher spice level.
