I got the tuna sashimi from Fugetsu and immediately felt super nauseous after eating it. I checked my plate and was grossed out to see a tiny white worm sitting right on top of the raw tuna. Serving fish with visible parasites is a huge food safety hazard. The kitchen really needs to inspect their fish better. Definitely not coming back.

Just a neat joint to take fresh Japanese food to go. Ideal for any Situation or circumstance/

This is a shop in the plaza with Mitsuwa. There's a huge variety of hot (don, okonomomiyaki, etc.) and cold items (chirashi, sushi bowls, sashimi, etc.), as will as rice balls to choose from. The items are all decently priced, fresh, and decent quality. There is no seating - it is purely a takeout spot. The people working there are super polite.

Very fun spot to grab ready to eat Japanese food and shop for trinkets, home goods, & blind boxes. They have tons of food options I don't usually see at Japanese markets or grocery stores like mentaiko pasta, okinomiyaki, pudding, etc. The food is also kept warm so it's ready to eat and you don't have to microwave! Prices are pretty reasonable (most hot foods were under $20). The okinomiyaki sampler was okay-- the toppings were good but the okinomiyaki base itself was a bit thick and had too much sauce. The shrimp tempura hand roll was super yummy though. They also have tons of blind boxes, sonny angels/smiskis, monchhichi, mofusand, miffy, snoopy, and other cute Japanese goods which was so fun to browse. The space is small inside so it gets pretty cramped when busy but the checkout line moves fast. They unfortunately don't have seating inside but do give out napkins & chopsticks when you check out. There's also the Mitsuwa market nearby that has tables you could eat at.

Repeated Fugetsu customer here! This is the perfect grab-and-go spot for your Japanese cravings. I have been to Fugetsu at least 8 times at this point and will definitely come here again. This spot is located in Strawberry Park in Saratoga and is right next to Clover Bakery. While Clover Bakery tends to have longer lines, I personally have never run into a scenario where Fugetsu is packed. There is no seating, by the way, and parking can get a little hectic because of the nature of this plaza. I will say that over the years, Fugetsu has really stocked up on its selection and range of food. When you first enter, they have their stock of okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and generous bentos. As you turn the corner, they have sashimi, onigiri, dons, and more. Sometimes I get decision paralysis, but in a good way. I want to note that while I have never been disappointed by the food I get here, there isn't anything that has blown me away either. That being said, whenever I am having a picnic, this is the first spot I think of when I want to stock up for my friends and me. What is cool about this place, too, is that half of the store is dedicated to food, while the second half has merch, trinkets, and dinnerware. They carry Sonny Angels, Smiskis, loads of Miffy items, some Sanrio, and if you're a Sylvanian Families collector like me, you'll really enjoy it here. That said, they do upcharge quite a bit on some items. For example, a Sonny Angel at Mitsuwa (in the same plaza) can be around $16 (which is still expensive), while here it's closer to $21.

Stopped here on a Sunday afternoon to get some snacks. It is located in a large shopping complex. Although the parking lot was big, empty spots were hard to come by. We circled a few times with no luck so we ended up parking on the street. It was a small place with lots of bento and onigiri options. In the back are some hot food options. It was a little pricey there. I got the unagi onigiri and spam and egg musubi and it came out to over $13. Some of the bento boxes seemed welled priced.

We stopped here to pick up food for a picnic at John Mise Park. It's conveniently located in the Mitsuwa shopping center on Saratoga and Moorpark. Parking is tough, but that's not the fault of Fugetsu. The selection is great, and I enjoyed my combo meal of yakiniku and tonkatsu. Flavor was good and of course it's not on the same level as getting it made fresh to order for you, but for a picnic, it's great to have so many options like this. Service was friendly at the register and the store also has other fun Japanese goods like toy figures (though kind of overpriced). A bit crowded, but it just means that there's a lot of stuff packed into the space to choose from. So I like it - reasonable quality food, great selection, fair prices.

Came here for the first time last Friday. It's right next to Clover. Very convenient, as we're also getting some stuff there. I had bookmarked this place for a while and wanted to check it out, anyway. Parking in the lot outside wasn't too bad around 5pm. They had a few other customers but not too busy. I was impressed by the huge bento and onigiri selections they had. They had a hot appetizer case at the back and some drinks as well. It took us a while to decide what to get. Everything looked really good. Besides food items, they also had a lot of interesting and cute Japanese figurines, tableware, toys, etc. Checkout was efficient and the staff were friendly. The food, however, looked much better than they tasted. We got 5pcs of takoyaki to share, and all 3 of us didn't like it. They're small, soggy and seemed to have been in the heater for a long time; just nothing like the usual takoyaki we had at restaurants. My unagi don was also ... meh. The amount of unagi was ok, but the quality wasn't very good. It was chewy and not flavorful. There was quite a bit of rice, and could use more sauce or some furikake. My husband and daughter said their bento, onigiri and drinks were ok. I'll probably stick with the bentos from Mitsuwa next time, though.

Great place to get grab and go meals: sushi, full combo meal sets, musubi, onigiri, etc. Their onigiri is one of the most flavorful I've ever tried. I'm the kind of person that asks for less rice in my musubi whenever I can, but here the rice has so much flavor that I would welcome any amount. The smoked salmon and shiso onigiri is one of my faves.

This place is 5 for its price point! They gave us quite a bit of salmon for $15. They offer a lot of fun japanese food options from onigiri, donburi, okonomiyaki, meal sets, chirashi, kimbap, and a lot more. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone looking for something filling at a good price. Parking: big lot but there can be a lot of people. It should not be a problem with a little patience :) Bonus: In the back of the store, they sell smiskis, miffy's, t-shirts, sunny angels! These are less of a steal but they are always in stock. They even had some hippers!

Came here on a Saturday and it was packed. It's a really small place, super cramped inside, but it's wonderful! Service was solid. They got lots of food options to choose from. I'd say reasonable priced and affordable!! Getting your bang for your buck. Also, they have lots of SUPER cute knickknacks like blind boxes, key chains, etc etc. Those prices are crazy though so beware... ended up walking out with food only, but I had to fight some demons to get there. The amount of self control you have to have to not indulge in spending lots of your money in there. Minus a star for the layout and how cramped it is. Besides that, a fun place!

    Dave S.

So fun. Full of things I love and want to eat. Culturally sound Japanese eatery and shop. It's more than just bentos and other Japanese eats...it's food excitement. I was very full and happy when it was all over. The service was excellent, sizing up what you bought and giving you everything you need to get by, nothing more but plenty. That's good management. Last words... wife said "if you lived in town, you'd be poor ".

    Bryan C.

Fugetsu in Saratoga is a very interesting place where they sell Japanese toys, snacks, merchandise PLUS bento boxes from different Japanese restaurants they own. This small shop is very cramped like everyone else commented but the cashiers are very nice, sometimes you will find some good deals. For example we got this huge plate of chirashi sushi from Rokko for $45, it has enough food to serve 6 people.

That alone should tell you something All these years later, it is still just as amazing as it was back then. Same great atmosphere, same entertaining chefs, and most importantly... the same consistently incredible food. My go-to (and it will never change) is the Genji combination--filet mignon and shrimp with bean sprouts. The filet is always cooked perfectly, the shrimp is delicious, and everything on that grill just has that flavor you can't recreate at home (trust me... I've tried ). And let's talk about the extras... The salad dressing? I would pay good money for that recipe. I've tried to recreate it more times than I can count and it's just not happening. The soup is always comforting and perfect. And ending the meal with green tea ice cream? It's the cherry on top of a perfect experience. The chefs are part of the fun--they make it an experience, not just a meal. There's something so special about sitting around that grill, watching the show, and knowing exactly what you're about to get... because it's always spot on. After all these years, this is still one of my favorite restaurants ever. Not many places can say they've stayed this good for this long. If you haven't been... you're missing out.

The problem was that the cook knew I ordered 2 rices and only had enough for one on the grill. He then asked the server to bring me an extra rice from the back. When it came out it was pale, cold, and half way served. Nothing compared to the rice cooked in front of you. This happened to me the last time I went to as well. Not only that, but the cook was giving the others extra rice and barely had enough for me. Not to mention it's $9. I had my baby with me and I totally forgot my meal came with ice cream. My partner also ordered three sushi rolls for us to share. The service was excellent! Our server was friendly and attentive, and the hibachi chef put on an amazing show, making the meal a truly entertaining experience. It was a first for both of us! However, there was one significant issue. During the hibachi, everyone at our shared table received a bowl of rice except for me. When some leftover rice was offered, a group of teenage boys quickly claimed it, even though they saw I hadn't received any. My boyfriend offered to share his, but it was frustrating to feel like I had to "fight" for food that should have been included. The food was good and the hibachi was enjoyable. The sushi was decent, though I've had better, this incident left a sour taste. Despite the great service and entertainment, the feeling of having to compete for my portion really detracted from the experience. The sliced beef was cooked to rare, and the braised pork was very tender. The rice also came with the poached egg, kewpie mayo and a lemon, mixing it all together with the rice made it have a nice creamy flavor. Clam chowder croquette was something I have never heard of before, so I definitely wanted to try it. This was delicious, would definitely get it again. Salmon Kama bento is salmon collar over rice, fried boneless chicken, takoyaki and edamame, blistered tomatoes and shisito peppers with pickles. The salmon collar needed some salt in my opinion.
