This was my first time there. Our waitress neomi was wonderful. We got the fried scallops as an appetizer. They were succulent and perfectly battered. We got the lava sushi. I would have preferred a cold sushi vs. A baked one. They give you miso soup which to me taste like a bowl of beef broth with a couple mushrooms in it. The ginger salad was tasty. We received the shrimp and veggie tempura dish which was perfectly battered. I got the hibachi shrimp and chicken combination dish which consisted of veggies, fried rice, shrimp and chicken. I visited the restaurant portion of Fuji (which has a different name on the store front outside) as part of a double date. The decor inside is standard for a hibachi/ sushi restaurant. There weren't a ton of other customers on a Monday night. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. Fuji is my nieces' favorite restaurant, so it's become a tradition of birthday rotations here and it's always a fun time. It's exactly what you would expect at a hibachi restaurant, however the chefs are always friendly and entertaining to watch. Although I haven't tried anything outside of the hibachi menu, I always enjoy everything I get. It's also never crowded, at least in my experience, so walking in is never an issue. I always perk up when we have plans for Fuji, they definitely do things right here! read more

I've been here numerous times over the years and always have a good experience. The staff is usually very friendly and quick. We didn't sit at hibachi and opted for a normal table. My boyfriend ordered the Udon soup that was served with a salad. We also ordered 2 rolls and fried rice. Our 2 rolls were the Volcano Roll and the Ninja (I believe). Their Volcano Roll was different than a Volcano Roll I'm used to from another spot was was still decent; however, I probably wouldn't order it again just because it was a little much for me in the way of greasy flavor. My boyfriend had the Ninja and enjoyed it. It was a fried roll and I'm not much into fried rolls so I didn't have any of his. Service was quick. Atmosphere was decent. Most of their seating is hibachi... and they do have sushi bar seating available too. This restaurant had a small aquarium in the waiting area, so many kids were watching the fish while they waited. It was enough to feel the atmosphere of a Japanese restaurant. The sushi boat menu seemed a bit expensive for the amount of food. The fried scallops were delicious. Our server didn't show up often, so we had to wait a little to order. I normally give it a 5-star in my reviews, but it wasn't too bad here, so I gave it a 4-star instead. read more

I really wanted to love this place. So, we've been on the hunt for great hibachi in Louisville since Sapporo's stopped doing hibachi table service. Unfortunately to say, our quest continues. Last weekend we tried Fuji Japanese on a recommendation from a friend. I ended up making reservations in advance since we invited grandparents to join us. The restaurant is located in a strip mall in the east end, which is sometimes a good sign. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we arrived and we were seated immediately. After about 10 minutes, a server came by and said she would be taking care of us but was swamped at the moment. About 5 minutes later another server came by and said she would be taking care of us. She was great! Extremely attentive and nice. We all placed our drink and food orders at that time and food started rolling out. We ordered the crunch munch sushi roll to start, and that came out very quickly. We had to wait a few minutes to chop sticks but the roll was flavorful and hit the spot. Next up was salads and soup. The soup was a nice portion and was piping hot. The salad was a bit watery and the dressing wasn't the same usual ginger dressing most hibachi places use. It was slightly off. Our chef was terrific and showcased a few moves we had never seen. He was also a fast chef! Everything else was good, but unremarkable. Kids loved the steak, it was cooked to perfection and was moist and juicy. My chicken was also very tender. read more

The sushi here is pretty good and fresh, and while I've never done the hibachi, where I sat I could see the hibachi and it looks like a lot of fun, it seems they do hibachi right if you're looking for it here. The place gets lively right around 6. It's usually bustling and talkative. I always love a side salad with the ginger dressing before my sushi and this one is just fine. It's not a standout from any other sushi place, pretty standard, but it hits the spot. This latest time I went with my parents we got the tempura shrimp as an appetizer and it was pretty good. I do wish the tempura sauce would've been a little more flavorful. My non-sushi eating parents got the seafood combo teriyaki style, and they really enjoyed it. I took a few bites and it was very nice -- the scallops weren't over cooked, they were very tender, same with the shrimp. The teriyaki sauce was well balanced, not too salty or sweet, just right. Their crunch munch roll here is my favorite. It's generously filled with spicy crab, the shrimp is nice on the outside, and the tempura flakes add a good crunch, and the spicy dressing finishes it off with some heat. I also like to get an unagi roll, and theirs is better than most places. My sister, however, got the volcano roll and it wasn't very good. It was baked or steamed in foil, so the rice didn't hold together and it fell apart trying to eat it, they put way too much spicy mayo and that got all mixed in with the rice. It was literally a hot mess. She hated to use this word, but she said it was terrible. I tried it and agreed. That's probably the only bad note to make. The food...delicious: Typical Japanese steakhouse options with a sushi bar, of course. Everything was fresh, perfectly prepared, with special instructions followed. The presentation...enjoyable: Our chef was very personable and really had the attention of kids at our table. It made everyone laugh. The wait staff...friendly and attentive: Our waiter took great notes, kept our drinks refilled, and was very courteous. The owner made a point to stop by to ensure our experience was a good one. Tip: Go early or make a reservation. This isn't a huge place, and word has gotten out, so it fills up fast. Hopefully, they can expand sometime soon! read more

Used to be our favorite East End Sushi go to. We went in this evening and everything was a little off. Our server was definitely in a hurry and did not take care of us. The rolls were sloppy and amount of fish ratio to other items was very low. One of my rolls that has lemon on top was also poorly done with barely any lemon and it was not fresh. A solid three. We didn't have any issues being seated but one of our friends was there in advance. We took a seat at one of the hibachi tables. There were 4 of us at one end and a family of 4 at the other end. The food was good. It wasn't anything to rave about. Our cook did socialize but for the most part, he was just there cooking and dishing out food. He didn't seem too excited on this night. Service seemed to be constant. Our server was there when we needed her but she didn't check on us too often. I did have to conserve my water because it was apparent that it wasn't going to be filled often. The hibachi room is big with numerous tables. When I think about it, I only saw her and maybe one other server. The rest of the people on the floor were cooks. The problem with hibachi for me is that it makes me want to cook. So while our cook was cooking, I kept noticing that I could do this... and probably better. We decided to split the steak and shrimp hibachi meal. We also ordered veggies and a sushi roll. Fried rice is also prepared with the meal. Salads and soup also came out. -- Steak and shrimp - The cook did ask how we wanted our steak. I told him medium-well but it was more in the well-done range. The shrimp was delicious. I loved the salad that came out. It was just a normal salad but for some reason, it hit the spot. -- Rice and veggies - The fried rice was what you would think but it's still cool to see it made. I'd prefer steamed rice any day of the week. The veggies were also tasty. Be sure to eat your veggies with every meal ladies and gentlemen. -- Sushi - I needed sushi. I chose the lobster roll for us all to split. The roll was large. They do have a sushi chef that I assume makes sushi on demand. While I loved this roll, it didn't seem to be fresh. We still finished it off. Overall the food was good. We all left satisfied. For a Monday night, it was busy. The staff was nice although absent at times. If someone invited me to go here again, I'd easily say yes but I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way. read more

We had never been to Fuji before but tried them for Carryout on a Sunday evening. I couldn't find an online ordering system but calling to place the order was very straightforward. She told me 15 minutes for the 3 rolls, a gyoza order, and a side of fried rice. It was all ready and waiting when we arrived for pick up. The sushi was all very good! I appreciated that it was tightly wrapped - no coming unrolled between chopsticks. We got the Fire Dragon, Yum Yum, & California roll. The gyoza was good enough but not something I feel the need to order again. The fried rice was good. The serving sizes were generous. We would come here again as we felt like the food was good and the value was also appropriate. read more

Even though we visited during the pandemic, this was quite possibly the best Japanese steakhouse experience I've ever had. And I've been to MANY over the years. The outside is a very unassuming restraint front and the inside does not scream of the fanciest fine dining (compared to other Japanese steakhouses) but the food was delicious and the service truly impeccable especially considering the circumstances. Our chef Max was probably my favorite hibachi grill chef I've ever had. He even put up with my little brother's constant comments predicting what would happen next - the fire, onion volcano, tossing eggs into the hat, etc...(like I said, we've been to MANY a Japanese steakhouse). Even during the pandemic, they are cooking at the hibachi grills, but with only one party per grill, so you don't have to sit with strangers. Our cook was fun and personable. All of the food was great and as expected. The prices aren't bad at all considering the portions. I had enough food leftover to eat another full meal tonight for dinner! The food tastes pretty good reheated as well. This restaurant is a lot less fancy than other similar hibachi restaurants, but the food is just as good. We decided on Louisville as our spring break. We reside in Michigan. We are staying up the road from Fuji so decided to walk to the restaurant as a change after a day of driving. It was okay. All the meats were over cooked (steak, chicken and lobster). The steak was ordered medium and was very tough and had no pink at all. The lobster was chewy, not tender like usual at hibachi. They didn't provide sauces until after the chef had cleaned up the grill, it was a complete afterthought. Our chef wasn't nearly as engaging as many of the others were during this visit, not engaging with our table at all. We were seated quickly and our wait staff seemed a bit overworked, but was friendly. Our bill was 103 for 3 of us + tip, seemed pricy for the quality of food. Overall, ok. Not out of this world, but edible and we all left full. read more

We have also had the California roll and shrimp tempura that were good. We all know hibachi is huge portions. They have a sitting fee so you can share the meal but still get your own soup & salad. We stopped in here for a quick lunch before our movie at Tinseltown. It's located in a small shopping center off of Westport. We were immediately greeted and sat at a table. The restaurant was clean, inviting, and well lit. They offered a lunch and sushi menu with tons of options! We opted for sushi, gyoza, and yakisoba for the kids. Our food came out quickly.
