Let me first say my wallet was missing all its cash at the end of the meal. That's not all but it is the reason I am writing a rare review on a restaurant. i was meeting a work party of 10 people. My experience began walking into the restaurant for the first time to a male host who when told I was meeting a party of 10 he said rudely "I dont know, go check". I walked in and saw two groups, neither of which were mine, so I decided to wait in the host area. It was my first time and he didn't seem it was important to tell me there were two floors as two entrances. I quickly realized this and found my party. We all ordered large platters that came with soups and salads. The waitress brought wine glasses, which she left at the corner of the table for us to pass out ourselves, and repeated this process with the waters, soups, and salads. She didn't remember who got what when the food came. And the coup de gras, after paying the main person of the group, my wallet was gone. It was later found at the end of the table, on the floor, without the cash. I am monitoring my credit cards. Terrible experience from beginning to end. The owner should review the hiring process. read more

WOW- is all that I can say. Where in the world do they still let you BYOB and not charge you a corking fee? That alone makes this place worth it. We were visiting some friends who live in the area and they suggested this place. We met them there late on a Friday night. The dinner was great! We had Sushi and than did the Hibachi- it was really great. We also made friends with the couple across the way! All in all it was a great time. The server was great. Every year on Christmas eve we go here and celebrate. The service is always excellent! The suisi is incredible, and the host is the most. Really worth the visit. They have a hibachi bar on the lower level, never been but looks like they get a great deal of activity. read more

This is our place to go for good food and friendly service. My go to dish is always Gop Dol Bimimbap and I have never been disappointed. We also usually get a mix of different sushi rolls to round out our meal. We've been there enough that the owner and staff greet us enthusiastically each time. They are kid friendly, polite and helpful. Every dish we order has the same level of quality that never diminishes. We will go back again and again. read more

EXCELLENT Sushi! Lots of selection. I've eaten here several times and had a different roll everytime. Very clean place, fast service. Try the sweet green tea! Host (owner?) was very nice, and joked with us a bit before it got to busy. I saw that he made a point of visiting every table. A little on the expensive side, but it is sushi. Worst hibachi experience ever. Chef was miserable which brought down the energy of the entire table. Didn't do zucchini toss, cooked food way to long - asked for steak medium rare came out well done. Ordered filet and they gave us steak but still charged for filet. We voiced our displeasure and the manager/owner didn't seem to care. Decent for Japanese being in the middle of nowhere. It is on the expensive side, but being in the middle of nowhere, it's expected. The ambiance and service are pretty good. I like how the host delivers the authentic bow as you enter and exit. BYOB. I'm not a fan of Hibachi and I've never tried that part (downstairs). It can get pretty loud and crowded on the weekends. And no, the host and hostesses are not Japanese. They are Koreans. So don't expect this to be authentic Japanese food. read more

Updating my review. I try to eat here once every few weeks. Staff is friendly. Sushi is fresh. Owners are knowledgable. Love the selection of rolls. Desserts look great although we are usually full. Prices are fair. I like sitting at the sushi bar. Also, they have hibachi which we enjoy. Finally the only non sushi/hibachi I've had is the Gop Dol Bibimbop and that is great for lunch. The only downside is that it does get crowded for dinners.... read more

Typical Japanese/Sushi joint in New Jersey. Quality is better than most places in central NJ. Agree with other reviewers, the price is higher than average without going overboard. The waitstaff was pleasant enough, although I did go towards closing time so it felt a little rushed. The decor is modern and spacious. If you go upstairs you will have a standard restaurant experience. Downstairs they do Hibachi (where the food is cooked in front of you at your table). We went for the hibachi. It's a bit expensive (22 for chicken, 28 for filet mignon more for seafood and combos). Each meal includes a mediocre house salad and hibachi soup as a starter, then fried rice, noodles, and meat for the main course. The salad and soup weren't great. The noodles, fried rice, and meat were, though. We had chicken and filet, and both were excellent. The ambiance was decent. Moderate noise on a moderately busy evening. If you have a smaller party(4 or less) you may share a table with someone else. Also, since the grill is right in front of you, you're clothes will smell like food/grill afterwards. Overall a good experience I would be happy to repeat. read more

I frequent Fujiyama about once per month and love it. We sit upstairs in the restaurant as opposed to going into the lower level entrance where they have hibachi. We always start with the avacado salads with ginger dressing and then move on to the rolls. We order spicy mayo on the side and finish the meal off with green tea ice cream. Service is beyond excellent. They are polite and nice... just don't go too late as the restaurant closes at 11 on Friday nights. AND, its BYOB!!! read more

This is an awsome place for sushi and hibachi. My wife and I went here on two different occasions. We had sushi here for the first time about a year ago, and it was very good and fresh. The last time we were here was for Valentine's day when we did hibachi downstairs. It was a very nice experience and the chef was entertaining (typical with hibachi)! Price was reasonable, perhaps a bit on the pricy side but certainly not expensive. Very nice decor, we will definitely be going back. read more

We ate in the upstairs part of the restaurant, not the downstairs hibachi area. I think we were the first there for dinner, but more came shortly after us. My wife had dumplings as an appetizer that were excellent. My appetizer was raw and cooked fish with cucumbers and a small amount of noodles, also delicious. For the main course, I had some wonderful Red Snapper served over a bed of greens. Snapper was awesome. My wife had a spicy chowder/soup that was wonderful, but it was so spicy, the sweat dripped off her, and her nose ran. For dessert we had a cheesecake dipped in tempura batter and fried, topped with some fruit and whipped cream and a fried ice cream that was also dipped in tempura batter. Dessert was the low point here, but it wasn't bad. Some on here fuss about the price, but good, well prepared food is well worth it. If you want cheap food, go to the Chinese take out. Went this evening with my boyfriend to give this place a second opportunity but wow but it was worst than the first time. We went the first time for the Hibachi lunch and the portions were so small that we left hungry than went again tonight for Hibachi dinner and even though portions were bigger food was horrendous. Had Steak and Lobster, portion was like a 1.5 ounce lobster and it tasted horrible....Lobster was mushy and even though I asked for low sodium, everything was salty. I asked to see the Manager and he tried to comp our food and I told him we are not interested in a free meal we just wanted to make him aware of the bad quality of food they are serving in this restaurant I think he was shocked that we were not looking for a freebie and didn't know what to say, instead he tried to insulting our palets by telling us we didnt know much about lobsters. The service is great and the sushi is always fresh. I like to go to busy sushi restaurants because I feel the fish is always fresher. Upstairs they do sushi and Japaneses dishes. Down stairs is there habchi restaurant. The two restaurants are very good. I get a Brian roll and spicy tuna when I do sushi and steak when I do habachi. They are priced about average with other places but they are BYOB so you can save some money there. read more

Came in for dinner with my girlfriend and a few of her friends. Our orders were taken and everything seemed well. Our cook came out, who seemed like he had better things to do. Simply pointed and mumbled our orders at each of us. Our cook put on no show, didn't even interact with our table. Half way through cooking a waiter came and knocked soup all over our friends lap. Didnt apologize, just grabbed her napkin to wipe the table, and didnt bring extra for her to clean herself. Our food was finished cooking, but our cook didnt follow his cheat sheet of who ordered what, so everyone got a random food slung on their plates. After playing musical plates, it was time to eat. Rice and noodles had little to no flavor, steak was well overcooked and chewy, scallops were mushy, and the shrimp was still grey. When our bill came, I really didn't even feel like tipping cause or how terrible the experience was, but being generous, i decided to tip $20 just shy of 10% of the bill. As we were getting ready to head out, a server came up to me and asked if I was going to leave a tip for the cook. I told him I tipped already. He made a whole scene at the table, and even said "thats it" to the tip I shouldn't of even left. I've never had an experience like this at any restaurant, but this one is definitely rememberable for all the wrong reasons. I will no longer be coming to this restaurant in the future. read more

I think that the prices are high BUT if you get a platter its worth it!!!!! I go with my husband and two kids and the platter boat they bring out fills us up! I can give this place an honest, and solid 5 stars. I've been going there for years and have been eating sushi for my whole life, including in Japan. The owner is very fastidious about his selection of fish that he uses, and the rice is the proper type and length. Flavors are great, presentation is very good. Its not in competition for the greatest sushi joint in the world, but I'd put it in the running for one of the best in New Jersey. "Nick" as he calls himself, is a cool guy (owner). He does not hit on your girlfriend as the previous poster mentioned, its just his way of breaking the ice and being funny. He's always been very cool with me and respectful of my wife, but he also does the jokes. The only thing you can knock this place down on is it can get mobbed. You can't hold it against the guy that he's successful and doesn't ahve the time to open another location. He has expanded the existing restaurant already, so he's addressed the issue as best as reasonably possible. read more

So one night I took my boyfriend for a special occasion, as he had never been before, and it was the worst experience. We have been here several times, and every time the food and service has been excellent. My husband is not a sushi person, so they prepare for him a hibatchi platter and serve it to him upstairs while I enjoy my sushi rolls. They always handle the wine we bring with special care. Décor and ambiance is lovely. Sushi rolls are imaginative and delicious. We never had a problem here. At any restaurant, service on busy weekend nights and holidays can be randomly disappointing. We tend to eat out during the week and eat at home on weekends, so we usually end up being seated immediately and served quickly. read more
