The food is not good they are very overpriced, for the portion of food that you get they charge you one dollar EXTRA for a receipt. Before I went to buy food from this restaurant, I read the reviews and it has good reviews. I ordered sushi and 2 orders of calamari, one calamari was undercooked (the breading was not cooked yet) and the other one was overcooked (burnt actually) considering the price on their menus who would expect the food was an epic fail. Oh Annie, I waited well over an hour for a glass of water. When our waiter, Annie, took our beverage order I asked for a glass of water. I gave away my drink to someone who didn't get one because I was given the wrong beverage. So I asked again for water. Again, nothing. I thought she might've forgotten because we were a big group. I was wrong, the other half of our group kept getting refills. Our side never got checked on. I had someone else ask for me. Nothing. A second person asked for me. Twice. Nothing. She finally brought out water after the 5th time but to REFILL. I didn't even have a glass, y'all. It took SIX times of asking for water to finally get a glass. A DIFFERENT WAITER brought out water for me. And it was mostly ice. It was ridiculous. The food on the other hand... was just okay. I wasn't impressed and was still hungry afterwards. I was missing some hot sauce. I was hoping I'd get all the food at once, but I didn't. I understand why though (i.e. different temps). So id recommend coming here for the Grill experience. This two star review is for someone in the business STEALING by adding tip after they left already added tip for a big group which was automatic. The added an extra $40 dollars to the bill. They had the audacity to send a picture of proof with someone else's writing on the bill. My son had his 9th birthday here. Michael our chef made the evening very special. He is a funny guy who truly cares about his trade and customers. The rest of the staff was also fantastic. There was a special birthday hat, ice cream dessert, and music which was all unexpected. The food was brilliant especially the fillet. I honestly don't understand how a fillet can be cut up in small pieces and still be ultra tender. I know often that a hibachi grill is often about the show (which ours was outstanding) but moreover you're getting top notch cuisine. Will be back soon! read more

a few years back this place used to be a Chinese all you can eat buffet. then it was closed for a while, some time ago I noticed that it changed name to Fujiyama it always has the shades closed and the door has dark tint so it's imposible to see what it's like inside. this time I had the perfect combination, I was hungry, was nearby, had time and was curious about this place. So I decided to go in, when I came in the first thing I noticed was that the dinning room was a lot smaller, I thought I saw mirrors in the wall, as I was getting closer I noticed that I couldn't see my reflection and saw people seating in tables. after a close observation I came to 2 conclusions, first, I'm not a vampire! and that wasn't a mirror it was a window to the room next door!! what a relief! After a close inspection I recognized the table, they are set up in a "C" arrangement each side surrounding a cooking range and chairs all around. conclusions? Mongolian BBQ? no this is Japanese, shabu shabu? no raw food on site and wrong cooking stove, house of Gengi type! Yes, the Japanese chefs cooking in front of you! I immediately asked if I could go to that side. the waitress immediately took me to the next room sat me down gave me a menu and asked me what I wanted to eat. upon scanning the menu stake and shrimp jumped out at me and seemed like a good idea. soon after the chef walked in, and the show started, very playful, he showed his juggling skills, his mastering of the fire element, making a huge firewall on the stove, and a volcano, really cool stuff. the waiter brought me a plate of soup and a salad. and soon after, my plate was filled with insane amounts of food. the food was delicious, the ambiance friendly you definitely want to come to eat here. just like the house of Gengi, it's great for any reunion, party, business meeting. or just if you are hungry and want to come to a great place to eat. This was a fun, family-friendly place. Prices are very good for hibachi (aka teppan). The show put on by the chefs is alright and reflects why the meals may be more affordable than other restaurants in the same arena. The food was good, but fairly one-note on seasoning. Everything is cooked in butter and prepared with much the same seasonings. There are a few dipping sauces provided to allow for variety. The scallops were cooked to a perfect consistency. We had a variety between all of our meals and enjoyed shrimp, scallops, salmon and steak. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and are likely to return. read more

This place is delicious. Both the hibachi and the regular sitting tables. However I don't like the chairs in the hibachi side because they are too low and you can't eat comfortably. My friend and I were driving from SF to Morrow Rock. It was getting late so we decided to go any place which has good review on Yelp. We really did not know what kind of place it is going to be, but we had a fun time there. We had "HIBACHI" which is Teppan Yaki style (like Benihana). My friend ordered sea food combination and I ordered lobster and steak. If I am writing about food...I probably give three stars, but the chef made us laugh a lot. It was soooo entertaining. Friday evening dinner!! I am new to this restaurant but my friend asked to try it. It was early evening and restaurant was slow. However, from the minute we walked in to the moment we walked out the service was excellent. They helped by explaining the menu and the waitress made sure to keep our cups filled with our drinks. I had steak and scallops hibachi. The stake was a tiny overcooked but still tasty. Scallops were done to perfection. My friend was in love with her salmon and steak. It was my family's first time here. We were seated right away at the grill with another family. The cook catered to having kids at his station, but we watched the next station over that had only adults and that seemed more fun. Either way the food was prepared as instructed and it was GOOD. Went in for a large-ish group dinner and couldn't have been more pleased with the service or the food. We all sat at the teppanyaki table and really enjoyed the chef's sake bombs and exuberant showmanship. As we all enjoy Benihana and Sapporo, we couldn't help a direct comparison to Fujiyama. All 9 in our party agreed that we got more for the money at Fujiyama, plus we didn't have to drive to Monterey for our ginger-sauce addiction. The staff were all helpful, cheerful and efficient. We've been here 3 times. First in the regular dinning room and had a couple of lunch specials. I found their menu hard to understand for a first timer and got something different than what I thought I ordered. The food was ok. The 2nd time we came was with friends for their Hibachi grill dinner. We felt a little rushed to order and they were out of Sapporo. I got the steak and lobster dinner. Yes my steak was rare and small. The lobster was over cooked. My husbands lobster was also over cooked. The rice and noodles are pretty plain with just soy sauce, butter and a little egg. I don't like the soup they serve it's too light and flavorless you think your drinking hot water. They should stick to miso soup. Our server forgot about us and we had to ask for refills. Another person at our table wanted to share his sake with us and asked for extra cups that we never got. So the sake went cold. The chefs seem like beginners and their show is routine. Same thing each time, just slightly entertaining. Their service is hit and miss. Think we'll go back to Monterey for this type of dinning and get a real show for our money. read more

This place is Definetely overpriced for the portions you get. Our sushi was sitting on top of the counter and 2-3 different servers passed it and just left it there. They were not busy and they could've asked the sushi chef instead they were just walking around and talking. The last time we went for the habachi and we waited an hour for someone to even come and check in on us. My sister had to go to find a server just to check on the wait. The sushi rolls are between $13-20 and average at best. Habachi was not good and the sushi is not good. Will not be going back. For 3 people 2 roll, 1 soup, and 1 appetizer was almost 90$. read more

Japanese Hibachi restaurant in Salinas? Well yes please! A friend and I gave it a try for lunch yesterday. Its a good use of the old space (used to be a Chinese buffet place). You enter to a "regular" sit down dining room, complete with sushi bar. Remodeled, clean and inviting. Past that, facing Davis Rd. is the second dining room with the Hibachi tables, where they'll happily cook it all in front of you. The menu was varied and covered many options, regardless of which type of dining experience you desired. The prices seem fair, definitely less than what you'd pay for the same thing on the peninsula. It was Friday...so what the hell?.....Hibachi for lunch! I had the scallops and shrimp and it was killer. Portions were generous. The show was better than my last time to Sapporo (which I like as well). The food was similar to what you'd get at either Sapporo or Benihana. I personally think it was seasoned a bit better. Plus....soba noodles AND fried rice with my entre?....you won me over. OK, so you don't get a view of the wharf and bay...more like apartments and Oil Can Henry's, but that doesn't really matter when the show is going on. In the mood for hibachi but don't want to pay for that name-brand place in Monterey? Try Fujiyama! Instead of up charging you for fried rice it is included and you get noodles as well. We end up saving a ton of money coming here and the service/show is just as good (if not better) than the name-brand place. We live in Carmel and it's totally worth the drive for us to come here. I did take one star off because the building worn down big time on the outside and a little bit on the inside. Also the ginger salad dressing isn't quite as good as the name brand place. First time here with my son and his basketball team. We had a good time from beginning to end. The cook was entertaining and gave the adults if wanted long sake squirt shots hopefully you dont miss and flipped a vegetable from the table to your mouth if you were skilled enough. This brought on alot of laughter which trumped the things I didnt care for. The sushi was just okay! Not the best, but edible. The chicken and shrimp hibachi was good. I enjoyed the shrimp the most. The salad with the mango dressing wasnt compatible with my palate and I didnt care for the complimentary soup that came with the meal.
