NEVER AGAIN!!!!! Understaffed, rude, horrible service, and no concept of time management. I came here alone on a Wednesday, 20-30 people on the hibachi side (half were waiting to eat, due to only one chef cooking), one person at the sushi bar. Waited 5-10 minutes to be seated, an additional 10-15 minutes for my drink order to be taken (along with 4 others sitting at the same table) and then another 5-10 minutes for my order to be placed. I say placed, I decided to leave and go elsewhere after trying to explain to the waitress three times that I would like to order an appetizer, sushi, and hibachi entree....thoroughly confused she told me "oh no two entrees too much for one person to eat" "you want sushi or hibachi"? I stated I would like both, that I knew what I wanted to eat....again with a dazed look on her face I gave up and stated that I would just go to the sushi bar and just eat sushi. On the walk over she then states.."you should choose one or other, no need to order two items"...at this point it was obvious to me that this place was poorly managed, wasn't in business to make money, and that the staff had very limited and poor customer service skills. By far one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Staffing, service skills, and better situational awareness to their business are essential if they expect anyone to keep frequenting this place. If you are coming here for sushi then DONT DO IT! The Hibachi and other entrees are pretty good but the sushi is horrible! You might as well get sushi from Nob Hill or Safeway, it tastes about the same. You know how spicy tuna rolls is usually mashed up tuna? Its not a cut piece of tuna. Well thats how majority of their rolls are, mashed up fish paste! No nicely cut fresh piece of meat. Instead, its mashed up! Not all their rolls are made this way but alot of them are. The environment is nice! My son loves sushi and so do I. The only reason why we go there is because we love the atmosphere. We spent his 11th birthday there. Birthday celebrations are fun at Fujiyamas. They will sing to the birthday boy or girl, give you a dessert, a hat and will take a group picture for you and print it out for you the same day. Just had the worst sushi at Fujiyama. Also, the wait was about 2.5 hours due to graduations and staff doesn't let you know how long the wait will be. The portion is tiny and it tastes so off. We've been to Fujiyama twice and enjoyed it both times. The first time we went, we tried the Hibachi (Teppanyaki) side of the restaurant. It was very similar to Sapporo (Monterey) and Benihana. The chef was very entertaining, the food was seasoned nicely and cooked perfectly. An added bonus at Fujiyama, you get noodles in addition to the fried rice and large portions of everything. Great deal. Our server, Joy, was very attentive, without being intrusive, and a pleasure to talk to. The second time at Fujiyama, we tried the dining room side and had the Nabeyaki Udon or Soba In a hot pot, served w. salad. The noodles are in broth topped w. vegetables, chicken and eggs w. 2 pcs of tempura shrimp; although it doesn't say on the menu, there are also pieces of fishcake in the broth. I had the udon noodles and my wife had the soba. Both were excellent. The broth is perfectly seasoned so you can taste the individual ingredients easily, and the portions were huge. I'm so glad I ordered a side of eel sauce, because it made the rolls so much more enjoyable. I also ordered the Kani Salad and that was okay as well. Overall, the food was just okay. Stop driving to Monterey!! The food was delicious! The place was a lot of fun, with great service, clean remodeled building, huge portions and responsibly priced. Way better prices than most Sushi places and certainly better than the two popular over rated Monterey Habachi places. We had a party of eight for a Birthday, they allowed us to bring our own cake and brought it out with a Birthday Song on the speaker and candles for us. It's a great fun place for parties! Our Hibachi Chef was hilarious, kind and accommodated each of our special orders, which was huge for us because we had 3 Vegans in our party. We also were able to swap the house soup for miso without extra charge or an issue. The Sushi we ordered was fantastic! Fresh and beautifully plated. The meat eaters in our group said the food was cooked to perfection, unlike the other similar places in Monterey that the meat was dry and over cooked. My family and I really like going to Benihanas after any special occasion but decided to give this place a try since it's closer to where we live. I have to say that it was a really good experience. We were seated immediately and got our food quickly too. The cook had us laughing the whole time and really knew how to entertain us. The whole family enjoyed all our meals and the service was always very attentive and kind. They even gave us free ice cream which I personally had to pass on because I was already so full from my dinner. Sorry they didn't last long enough to get pictures. I called in the order and asked them to please package them separately and write the names of the rolls on them so we can tell which is which. Great place! My niece planned a birthday lunch for my sister, we all had dinner on the hibachi side of the restaurant. Service was great, they were attentive and fast. The food was delicious, so full of flavor! The bonus was the light show and music for the birthday person. For a few minutes there was a light show and music, we were are pleasantly surprised. Ordered the salmon hibachi meal to-go. WELL WORTH THE PRICE!! You basically get enough food for 2 people. Salad, brothy soup, fried rice, stir fried noodles, stir fried vegetables, AND your choice of entree. It came with 4 different types of sauces on the side (they were all tasty). Everything was well seasoned with its own unique flavors, not too greasy either. Staff is always nice over the phone and in person (service is important no matter how good the food is). Ken was our waiter, he was warm funny and excellent. Jacky was our Hibachi Chef. His fun and silly skills had all of us grinning and laughing. Did I say how delicious the food was?! We had dinner here for the first time and the hostess was very nice. She explained our options and we sat in the hibachi section in the back. It was a slow night and we got a section to ourselves. The chef was named Michael and he cooked us the 2 dinner special. It was delicious and cooked to order! There was more food on our plate than similar restaurants in Monterey (Sapporo's & Benihana) and price and portions better too! Excellent! Got take out due to COVID-19 and we didn't want to eat inside anyway. When you pick up, they don't even open their main door but have created a system where they open a small door to pass you the food. This seemed more secure than a bank teller! Food was fresh and everything was packed in separate containers. We got the sashimi lunch and tempura lunch specials and they did not skimp on the portions. We made reservations for 6 pm on Valentine's Day. We we're not seated until 6:25 and put drink orders in. At 7:00 drinks were still not delivered to the table so when I went to the bar to collect our drinks ourselves, I was told the host and bartender were the same person. Then she yelled at me how busy she was. At 7:15 half of our party had their food which was the presented preparation. The people with us ordered soup and sushi rolls and didn't have their food. We asked for the prepared food to be boxed and cancel the rest if the orders. The party was still even charged for the drinks!!! At The preparation table next to us, when the chef was making the rice he formed it in the shape of a human body which was cute at first until he shaped a penis on the rice person and added two eggs for the testicles. There was a small girl watching and a young boy. I feel this was vulgar and unnecessary! I will never return to this place!! read more

From bad service, rude management who wouldn't listen to any of our complaints of terrible food, the wrong food, and treating the customer as if we are taking advantage. You are a restaurant. We are the customer. If we don't get good food then we are not coming back.
