We went for dinner here tonight for the first time and we were very impressed and enjoyed our meals a lot! We sat at the hibachi table and our server was very attentive throughout our meal. Our cook was Sam and he was very friendly, entertaining and did a great job with our food. We also ordered a sushi roll and that was delicious as well. I'm giving one star for ambiance and general cleanliness of restaurant (let's hope it stays that way for the long run) another star for the hibachi chef, and another star for the quality and taste of food. Didn't like how the tenpura batter was slightly on the soggy side but the choice of veggies were meaty and tasty. The shrimp were huge, noodles a bit salty but still delish. Sake sashimi was pretty legit and seemingly fresh as well. Two negative stars for our server/waitress "Joy" she was unpleasant and gave annoying looks when asked if we can order from the menu instead of habachi. It was my first time eating here and I was excited. We showed up at about 10pm on a Saturday and it was going to close by 11. Surprisingly we were the only couple in the whole restaurant. I almost felt bad having the cook come out and do the whole show for us. But he was really nice about it and it was great we didn't have to share our area with anyone. Food was amazing I ordered the filet mignon and shrimp and the noodles they give with dinner were awesome! My only complaint is that once the food was cooked and the cook left we felt rushed. They were hovering around to take anything we were done with. And then the staff began to clean up all the tables around us at 1030pm. They picked up all the place settings which was so loud and then proceeded to clean the floors. Once that was over a few employees came out and began to clean the cooking area in front of us and other tables with chemicals and the guy turned on the over head fan as if that was to make it ok. Such an amazing experience!!! My husband and two babies visited this restaurant for their dinner shift. They opened right at 4 as advertised and had only one server working. I can't say enough wonderful things about this woman who waited on us. Seriously, she went above and beyond our expectations. Not only did she greet us right away, she made our drinks, took our order, and brought our food while still waiting on three other parties all on her own! She totally owned that restaurant and made us want to return just because of her amazing service. She even entertained our 6 mo old baby and 2 year old toddler so my husband and I could enjoy our meal. Also she encouraged my toddler to eat his food and he actually listened which he hardly ever does lol and then she made both our sons balloon animals!! It was just a great dinner overall, we left super happy and very impressed. The world would be a better place with more people like this woman, I wish I would've gotten her name but I'm sure Fujiyama knows how blessed they are to have this amazing employee and I hope to see her again on our next visit. read more

Went here this past weekend for my nephews 18 birthday. We were a party of 20. Food was okay, nothing extraordinary. The cooks were very engaging with great attitudes. Bills were separate. My part was for 7 people. Gratuity was added automatically. Came out to 25$ and some change. Total bill was $177 and some change. So far not too bad. Not the greatest but not too bad. Sitting around talking when waiter comes up an apologizes. A mistake was made on my bill. He needed to charge me an additional $1.50 bc it was 2 hot teas, not one. Lol. Yes 1.50. He apologized, said manager was making him do it, if I didn't pay HE was gonna have to pay out of his pocket. I've been to ALOT of Sushi places and the hot tea is always complimentary. Gave him a $5 bill told him to tell the manager to keep the change. I will NEVER go here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone. Customer satisfaction is key to success. The food could have been good if it wasn't dripping in oil. By the end I had a puddle of oil on my plate. It was unpalatable. The service wasn't very good either. The waitress forgot to bring out the salads until I asked halfway through when we saw her again for the first time. We were both out of a drink most of the meal and only got a refill when we flagged her down. They also had a weird laser light disco ball that they turned on at one point with techno music, very strange vibe for hibachi. I would not recommend. read more

Lets start with the fact the sushi was fishy, it was so nasty it came back up on my way home. What they called chicken teriyaki was some over done chicken that had been sitting in water and then reheated, chopped up and smothered a sticky sauce. it wasn't edible, I'm sure my dog would turn his nose up to it, but Id never subject him to something so nasty. I had been meaning to try this restaurant since it opened and finally got a chance. The staff is very friendly and the prices are pretty good, especially the lunch specials for hibachi. I had the chicken hibachi (which was excellent) and was pleasantly surprised by how generous the portions are. The lunch hibachi comes with soup, salad, fried rice, vegetables, noodles, and meat. This is a wonderful, friendly, entertaining experience. The food was delicious, the chef was entertaining as he cooked in front of us and joked and made this beautiful food. All the staff were friendly and polite. They all greeted us when we came in, explained everything and were polite. My daughter has many allergies, and they prepared her food separately in the kitchen so it would be allergy free. Great alternative to other hibachi places. There was no wait to be seated when I arrived with my group of 12 people. However, the cook took a bit too long to cook and serve our meals. I read lots of Yelp reviews before coming here. I got "Joy" who had some negative reviews. I can honestly say she was quite friendly. I think she's very shy, and is struggling with English. Yes, she hovered, but I think she was just anxious to please. Moving along with food. My son loved his sushi. My husband ordered a Donburi bowl (rice bowl) and it was a bit dry. I ordered a dinner box with shrimp tempura and beef, stuffed with green onion. There was a LOT of food! In fact, I couldn't eat it all. I wasn't crazy about the salad. The dressing was a strange texture and the salad hadn't been spun dry, so it was kinda watery and with big chunks of iceberg lettuce. The Miso soup was fine. Props that the tempura was crunchy and not greasy or soggy. Yay! The California roll was good. The beef roll thingie... okay, but not my favorite thing. It was almost comical, that someone was having a birthday in the Hibachi Room. Suddenly, disco colored lights were turned on-- almost blinding my son. Loud music started playing. It was so over-the-top we just started laughing-- it was just too much and seemed a bit weird. I would try this place again, but so far, Shogun (Old Town Salinas) still remains my favorite Japanese restaurant. read more
