My family is new to the area and being the devoted sushi lovers we are, we came here yesterday (Mother's Day lunch!) and my husband and I were instantly in awe of how nice the inside was! You honestly wouldn't be able to tell from the outside, I was skeptical before I walked in but after reading the yelp reviews we decided we had to try. We were sat down promptly (which with a two year old is a huge plus, although we don't mind waiting a few) and the waitress took our drink orders. The service through out our dining experience was prompt but never overdoing it which is great. The food was awesome, I ordered the Crazy Tuna and my husband ordered the Honolulu and some other roll I can't remember the name of but they were all very well made with top quality ingredients you could taste. The peppered tuna is AMAZING. I am addicted to Miso soup, I can eat my body weight in miso soup and Fujiyama's miso soup was fantastic, honestly the best miso soup I've ever had. I swear it's homemade, not like that Japanese fast food style powdered version some restaurants get. The dressing on the green salad was great too! For desert we got the tempura fried green tea ice cream (can't go to a sushi restaurant with out getting it), it was the cheapest price I've ever seen in my 23 years and it was just as delicious as some $10 fried ice creams I've had (Fujiyama is $3.50!!!!!!!) It's also a hibachi restaurant but we stuck with the sushi this time. Will most definitely return to Fujiyama's again and again! Consider us usuals from now on!! read more

If you want an amazing birthday place..this is it. My 8 year old granddaughter wanted sushi for her birthday(go figure ) we went to the back and our chef was Jackie. He was so funny and catered to the kids. Food was awesome. Then at the end we hear the happy birthday song on the loud speaker. She was given a huge plate of ice cream and fried bananas with a candle. They took our picture and then gave us copies as a souvenir. We all had great food and a great time. read more

The hibachi tables are larger than beni Hana. The food is good you get rice and noodles. Some of the cooks are very interactive which can make it a really fun experience. Price is pretty decent. The party balloon hat is a cute touch. The sushi is not the best. Service is good. You get a lot of food and probably won't finish. read more

Came here for lunch and I was not disappointed with my food and neither were my kids!!! We all got lunch specials that came with soup and salad for $10 each my husband and I ordered a bento box that came with gyoza, Ca roll, tempura shrimp n veggies and white rice. ( this combo you actually get to have your choice of appetizer, sushi roll and main dish) My son ordered the Pork tonkatsu with white rice and my daughter ordered shrimp n veggie tempura with white rice. We also ordered a side of fried rice which was AMAZING!!! Needless to say we ended up stuffed and had had 6 pieces of tempura left over and 1 bowl of white rice. The only negative thing was our waitress forgot to bring our soup n salad while we waited and we'll once she took our order she was no where to be found till our food came out and my husband asked her about it and she stated she forgot. I think she may have been new. However for our whole meal she again was MIA... which meant our now cluttered table wasn't able to be cleared once we finished with soup and salad and no drink refills . This is my wife and I second time patronizing this restaurant. The first time we had no issues and everything was great, however on Sunday, February 19, 2017 we invited friends to go with us. On this particular we sat at the bar and we ordered at 6:05pm and our food did not come out until 7pm. Two of four orders were wrong. So myself and a friend had to wait 10 addition minutes for them to correct the order. I am highly disappointed with my most recent visit to this restaurant. clearly today they were not prepared to service us or the multitude of people who were here to eat today. No one apologized or gave us a reason as to why the food was taking so long until I personally had to inquire. read more

Fujiyama's to go sushi is the worst sushi I've ever had. I had ordered 3 fried California rolls and they not only said it was going to be an hour wait, but gave us sushi that has been sitting there for hours. Almost tasted rubbery. I do not recommend this place. read more

I have never tried the Hibachi side, so this review is for the sushi. We have ordered the chef's special rolls (Honolulu Roll!) and regular spicy tuna and smoked salmon rolls, and they have always been delicious. The teriyaki boxes are solid as well. But really, get the sushi, it's to die for! read more

Just an ok place. I ordered sushi and it was freezing as if they had premade the rolls and kept them in the fridge. My teeth hurt when I started eating it because it was too cold. The rice felt almost gooey as if just sinking in with everything else. Definitely not fresh sushi. The flavor wasn't good enough to make up for it either. My brother got chicken with some noodles but they needed better flavor as well. The soup at the beginning was good tho. It was good to try it but I don't think I'll be going back. Great service, quality and value. We went at dinner time. Made reservations. We got the dinner for two, called Fujiyama dinner. This dinner included soup, salad, rice, noodles, chicken filet mignon, lobster, shrimp, scallops and vegtables, with a dessert of ice cream. This costed 60.00 for two. Looked at the lunch menu, really great value averaging 12.00 fir choice of two meat and rice, soup and salad. The restaurant was busy, good indication that it was good. Simply put, service sucks and food was less than mediocre. I was in town visiting came here with my wife, kids, and my parents. The lady that was waiting on us had a very impatient and rude attitude. So we get seated at the grill because my parents wanted hibachi. The first thing I ask is "what's popular here?", because its always good get what the locals eat. So instead of being helpful to a customer, she impatiently blurts out "everything", as if trying to rush us out the door asap. So after she gets my wife, myself, kids and parents' orders, she gives us an impatient look and tone and says "oh, only 2 people ordering hibachi grill??" She rolls her eyes and walks off all irritated. I'm sorry, did we do something wrong here?? Again with the bad attitude!! On top of all this, the food wasn't even that good. There's a ton of good Japanese places in SoCal, so maybe we have higher standards. read more

This is the best Japanese Restautant currently open in Salinas. The sushi is excellent, with rice that is seasoned properly - not too heavily. We had maguro sushi to start. The fish was sliced correctly, was not stringy as is often the problem with some of the other local sushi places (though Shogun is just as good for sushi). My tonkatsu was perfect. The tonkatsu sauce was unique and tasty. The salad dressing was quite unusual, but we enjoyed it. They served tea that was tepid, but replaced it with much hotter tea on request. The prices are a little on the high side, but the portions are large. The servers and other personnel are mainly Chinese and do not speak Japanese. I came here last week with some friends and family. I had the Caterpillar roll as well as the chicken hibachi dinner. Let me tell you this. The food was quite delicious, but that's not all. First time here sat at Sushi bar. There wasn't much fish to be seen but the sushi was actually pretty good. This establishment has a Teppan Yaki bar so if you want to see chef prepare food in front of you this is the place, brings friends and family it's entertaining.
