Love Fukada!! Absolutely the best and most accessible Japanese restaurant in the area. Their dishes are both authentic and consistent and are always enjoyable. We came looking for sushi or udon and left with new favorites: Tentoji Don! The pork and chicken options are delicious as well. Ambience: the high ceilings give this place the illusion of roominess, but there needs to be more seating. This place is way too popular. You are seated quite close to fellow parties so you can over hear conversations really easily. Service: they are attentive and will bring anything you ask for within a reasonable time frame. Food: I usually get the seafood salad combo with a rice bowl. The seafood salad plate is a fine entree on it's own. I usually get through about 1/3 of my rice bowl and to go the rest. I love the spicy tuna don and the oyako don. How can something so simple taste so good. The dressing on the seafood salad is addictive and complements the slightly seared fish very well. Don't come here looking for innovation. Come here for simple, Japanese comfort food. This place is definitely known for their lunch combo deals! What I usually order for lunch combo will be their hot udon w/ mountain veggie and the spicy tuna don. I don't even like tuna but this place makes me want it. For a lunch combo here, you can dine in and out for $15 with tips included. I would much rather eat this, something fresh and order to be made than some cold sandwiches at a fast food restaurants. However, it is PACKED during lunch hours on weekdays. I usually wait about 15-30 minutes just for myself - 1 person. Luckily, they do do take out orders so if you're on that office lunch break, you can still enjoy this!! One of my top places to go for noodles and oyaka don! The dinner combo lets you get both for only 12.95! What a bargain-so much food I had enough to take home for lunch the next day. I love the hot sansai soba-the noodles are perfect, and it comes with vegetables- and the oyaka don is so tasty. The waitress even let me get half brown and half white rice. The gyoza is also really yummy. You can also choose from various items to order as tempura (they come with two pieces per order) which is pretty unique. The food and price were decent. The guy working the register at 1:30pm today was pretty rude. It was our first time eating here and we were initially excited. However the guy was impatient and expected us to know how to order. There was only one couple behind us. So not sure why he was so impatient. Came here for dinner with a friend around 6:30. The wait was close to an hour. Be prepared to wait a while before getting called. We ordered: Hot vegetable udon - flavorful and noodles were cooked well. I wish this was served a little hotter. It was a little too cool for me but tasted good. Edamame - just your typical edamame. Nothing special. Fried chicken - I forgot the name but it wasn't called karage. It was served with a wedge of lemon and I think cocktail sauce. It was tasty. Unagi don - I love eel so this was a good choice. It's a very simple dish with just unagi with the typical sauce over white (or brown) rice with seaweed on top. If you like rolls with unagi, then you'll like this for sure. It costs a little extra to get this if you order as part of the combo. Spicy tuna don - I think this was the winner. It was not spicy really but flavor was great. Creamy but clean and served with rice and wasabi. It was so good. I could eat this all day. Really great food at great prices, and the long line of people sure to be in front of you on the wait list is proof. You can, however, order to-go and get your food without waiting in line! Their combo deals come with a bowl of noodles (udon/soba) and a choice of a rice dish or a roll. Everybody was desperately waiting for the restaurant to open to be the first one in, so if you want to have a good shot of trying this place without the wait, you definitely need to come here probably 25-30 minutes early. Service was super fast and attentive, we sat at the bar and it had plenty of space and it's not too close to people next to you. We ordered the noodle combination with half and half tanuki and mountain vegetable, and then spicy tuna don and the tempura don. The noodle bowl was huge! The spicy tuna don was very fresh and had pretty good portion too. I was a bit disappointed with the tempura don because the tempura was pretty soggy, and the bottom of the bowl didn't get any of that good sauce so it was a bit...bland. But overall, pretty good value for your money. 30 dollars for two people with a big bowl of noodles and rice. read more

One of my favorite lunch spot in Irvine. The lunch special is a steal, you get two meals for the price of one essentially. I usually get the udon with the tempura flakes and the spicy udon don. I love getting their combos because you can try so many different things and though it's a little more on the pricey side, I feel like the value is decent for a Japanese restaurant. The spicy tuna don is very popular, and something that I usually order. I usually get it with the seafood salad, which comes with thick slices of fish over a bed of greens. I probably wouldn't order the udon, as it was good but didn't seem to be anything special. Agedashi tofu & veggie tempura were both decent. Parking in this lot is plentiful, but a lot of spots are marked as 30-45 mins. I think if you come at night, this isn't very regulated, prob more for the lunchtime rush. read more

Highly recommend coming 45 minutes of opening or have someone come earlier to put a name down for the wait. I always find myself here after shopping at Spectrum or if I'm craving Japanese food that isn't just sushi. They do serve some rolls and sashimi, but I come for their noodles, rice bowls and salads. Fukada has a huge menu with plenty of options for everyone. It's perfect for dinner or lunch because of their combination options (Noodle + Rice Bowl or Salad + Rice Bowl)! I ordered the mountain vegetable hot udon soup and the spicy tuna don. The udon broth was super flavorful and rich, but the udon noodles weren't too special; they didn't taste house made. However, the mountain vegetables have great texture and really add to the flavor of the soup. The spicy tuna don had an interesting flavor and was very light, despite being made with mayo. I always come to Fukada for my udon fix when I am in the area! Can't find another place like it! There's always a line but the wait isn't too bad because the staff is very attentive :) Me and my boyfriend religiously get the hot TANUKI udon with both the spicy tuna don AND the unagi don. My friend and I wanted something light for an early dinner so we thought Udon would be a good choice. I have heard about this places from a couple of my friends. This is the only place that I know of in which they are known for their udon so I had to try it. The restaurant is like a traditional japanese restaurant. There is a bar seating where you would be near the chefs and tables. We got bar seating because it was only me and my friend and we just wanted to eat. I ordered a Kastu Donburi and Tanuki (tempura) udon combo and my friend got the Chicken Teriyaki Donburi and Sansai (vegetable) udon. I thought the udon was great and I really can't complain about it but I thought the Katsu Donburi had areas of the eggs that were too salty. My friend really enjoyed her udon also but she also said there were areas in the eggs that were salty from the sauce.
