Disappointing return to Fukada. We used to come all the time for their lunch combos and nabeyaki udon. Even during the pandemic, we ordered take-outs regularly. It's been a few years since our last visit because we moved away, and we were looking forward to today's visit...total let down. No more restaurant dining. All take outs only and in disposable bowls/containers. You can sit inside or outside. I understand during the pandemic why this was necessary but should be fine to return to normal operation at this point. So much garbage created with all the one-time-use stuff. Most people opt to dine in so makes no sense to have so much trash. And the indoor table was sticky. I know this is now a take out only place so diners have to clear their own plates... but we were the first group sitting down at our table when the restaurant opened...shouldn't the tables be cleaned initially before starting the day's operation? The biggest letdown...food. For a place that used to pride itself in freshly made udon and soba, these two dishes were terribly average. They might have used diluted soba tsuyu for the dipping sauce...it is not the full flavored version but tasted rather watered down in order the fill the larger takeout cup. The soup for nabeyaki also tasted bland, not as flavorful as their old broth. I think I could make a better broth using udon powder packets from grocery store. The rice dishes like katsu-don and prime beef steak were ok. Now the beloved Fukada feels like a generic food court stall. Of course it's still popular but the food is not the same.

I love the food, service , affordable pricing !! Super yummy & healthy same time :) My kids favorite udon combination!! Highly recommend!

Came here for a quick lunch. Food was tasty but I was surprised that they served everything in to-go containers even though we were dining in. It was such a waste to use all this plastic wrap and containers. Food was fine but nothing amazing. Skip the spicy tuna roll. Adequately filled out bellies on a road trip. It is a order at the cashier and seat yourself restaurant. Plenty of room. Parking is in an easy open lot.

Came here for a late lunch with the family. This is what we ordered: 1. Hot udon w/ sansai topping and Oyako don (chicken & egg w/rice) 2. Cold udon w/ sansai topping and albacore roll 3. Hot udon w/ sansai topping and California roll 4. Cold udon with tanuki topping and Oyako don What a deal! Enough food for 2 meals. Food was flavorful, balanced, and delicious. Next time I'll have to try the nasumiso - grilled eggplant with miso flavor. Note: Limited indoor seating. There are a few outdoor patio tables with umbrellas.

Fukada is an OG traditional Japanese comfort food restaurant located in the Los Olivos area in Irvine. This spot is located in a plaza with a good amount of parking spots. They are technically a takeout spot, but they do have a good amount of seating inside and outside after you get your food. For their menu, they have an extensive selection of foods you can mix and match with for combos. I ended up getting the Katsu Don and the Mixed Tempura and everything tasted delicious. All of the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. There is a reason why this spot has over 3,000+ positive reviews!

Service was great. The nice gentleman who helped me brought out my food as soon as I paid. Everything was packed up nicely and secured. I always get the Lunch Special Noodle Combination. Kake Udon 4/5 I love a good udon with just green onions. Their broth is really good and it totally hit the spot for me. Spicy Tuna Don 5/5 Love it so much! My friend introduced us to this place three years ago. At the time, I was pregnant and got the Oyakodon (It was tasty, but I know people come for their spicy tuna don) , but she said that I had to come back and try it. I did and ever since, that's what I order. They also give you a heart amount of rice, which I told mind because I love rice. I'm a carb girly. The next time I come back to Fukada, I want to try their Seafood Salad. My husband really likes it.

Fukada is one of our go to restaurants. My family loves their lunch specials, which is a lot of food for the money. For $18.45, you can choose either udon or soba (hot or cold) and a bowl (oyako don, katsu don, tempura don, tentoji don, curry don, spicy tuna don+$1, unagi don +$1). The spicy tuna don is my husband's fave, and my daughter always gets the katsu don and has leftovers. I love their seafood salad, which is also available as a lunch special ($20.45) with either udon or soba. I usually will just order the seafood salad on its own, which includes snow crab (the lunch special version does not) and seared tuna and seared salmon (four pieces of each). It's something that would cost so much more at sit down restaurant. You place order at the counter and all orders are packed to go. They do have a dining area where you can eat, as well as seating outside. They are very busy during lunch time. If you're planning on doing take out, you can place a phone order (no online ordering available).

Very casual Japanese restaurant with large portions and affordable prices. They are counter order only, but have plenty of seating. They serve everything in disposable containers for quick cleanup. The food is simple and healthy, and the staff are friendly.

Forgot about this place for a while. I always like their sets. Nothing fancy or super mind blowing but always a safe choice. Can never finish the whole set so I would eat the one dish and to-go the other. They changed from restaurant to exclusively just to-go order. U can seat urself and eat at the restaurant. But it won't be like ur usual sit and dine restaurant.

    Nancy L.

Since Covid times Fukada has become this semi takeout spot. They no longer have full service sit down, they will package all the food with disposable takeout boxes but you are allowed sit in to eat there. The combo meal with udon and a rice dish is still a good deal. I love how fresh the udon tastes and I really liked the unagi don.

My family always stops by Fukada for lunch or dinner whenever we're in the area. Since the pandemic, they've adopted kind of a "fast food" model where you order the food upfront, pay for it, and they hand it to you in to-go containers that you can eat using one of their indoor or outdoor tables. I actually don't mind this model as I think it cuts down a bit on waiting time. Fukada has delicious udon and soba varieties that aren't easy to find in other soba places. One of my favorite things to get here though is their spicy tuna bowl. Their spicy tuna is super creamy and not too spicy, and very filling! Prices here are very reasonable as well, especially in this day and age. It can get pretty busy here during rush hours but the wait usually isn't longer than around half an hour. Seating can be tricky too but there is also a decent amount of outdoor seating. It's a pretty casual family-friendly spot.

1 star for the waste, 3 star for the food. Way too much paper and plastic waste. I was genuinely surprised that even though we dined in for lunch, everything was packaged in to-go containers and placed inside a plastic bag, as if we were taking the meal out. This appears to be a standard practice at the restaurant, and the amount of waste generated was shocking. Seeing so many disposable containers heading straight to the landfill was disappointing. I hope the owner will consider rethinking this approach, as reducing single-use containers and plastic bags would significantly cut down on waste, lower environmental impact, and likely reduce operating costs over time. A simple shift to reusable dishware for dine-in guests would make a big difference and show a meaningful commitment to sustainability. It was hard for me to enjoy the food.

When you're craving delicious Japanese food, Fukada is the place to be! The service is fast and friendly in a cozy clean environment. I stopped in for lunch and chose the Seafood Salad combination with Spicy Tuna Don. Generous portions of fish with crisp greens and a delectable dressing make this a stand out dish! The spicy tuna adds a zing to this meal. For appetizer I ordered a side of gyoza, which was hot and savory. This is truly one of Irvine's lesser known gems. Enjoy!

    Ask the Community - Fukada

    Do they have high chairs?

    They do!

Do they have in door seating?

Yes. They still do the take out containers and pack all the food to go... but they did open up the dining area so at least there's places to sit.

Are you planning to reopen indoor dining? We miss dining in at Fukada!

Indoor dining is partially open with some modification (not a full service). However, not exactly a full service indoor dining. Now, you order on the counter and then you can sit inside. Today (01/08/23), I saw around 5 tables available for dine-in.…

Are they open for dine in yet? I'm seeing mixed answers in the reviews...

No. Strictly take out but you have the option to sit inside to eat after you make your purchase. They're being forced to offer indoor seating.

I know last month they are not doing dine in. What about now?

As of 12/10, it is still take out only. However, you can eat your "takeout" order at the tables inside the restaurant. They just don't have servers to serve you.

    Dine-in available yet?

Not yet - they are still take out only

How do you order? Every time I called the line was always busy and no body ever picked up?

Calling the restaurant to order for pickup is a hit & miss. Either they pick up the phone, it's busy line or it goes straight to their voicemail, which they don't check. Not sure how they can run business like this.

Are they open for dine in?

No dine-in yet as they don't have adequate servers but take-out available

Are you open for dine-in yet?

    No, they're not

Will Fukada post on their yelp page when they are available for dine in?

    Open for dine in?

    As of 1/8/22 takeout only

    Open for dine in?

2/17 - still take out only, but there's some outdoor seating outside

    Call I call and order?

    Yes

    Any dine in?

    No, not since covid

Are your soba noodles gluten free?

    No.

    Does the staff wear masks?

    Yes.

Have you reopened for dine in?

As of 12/10, it is still take out only. However, you can eat your "takeout" order at the tables inside the restaurant. They just don't have servers to serve you.

Is this place open for dine in yet?

    No, when I visited Oct 9 2020.

Anyone have info about delivery options there? I don't see them on uber eats or postmates?

I saw a sign that said no postmates

    Do they do takeout?

Yes the absolutely do! Portions seem smaller than dine in though

Unfortunately, after what happened today I am extremely;y disappointed with the customer service of a waitress. Service Dogs in the US. are not required to carry a special certificate or identification. Nevertheless I even showed her my dogs US DOT Service Animal Air Transpotation Form that i use for the air travel. After seeing it, she told me, "Okay next time when you come back, I will let you in!!! (Do you really think we will go back to eat ramen with your atrocious customer service???). and she continued by saying, if she is not there, I would have to explain or show it again to someone else. why should a regular customer have to repeatedly go through this every time we eat in this restaurant??? We came here because we love the ramen and became loyal customers, , sadly good food does not make up for being made too feel unwelcome or having a legitimate service dog questioned in this manner. Marufuku Ramen should properly train its staff regarding service animals and how customers with service dogs should be treated. This was an embarrassing, unnecessary and very disappoint experience from a restaurant we used to enjoy frequently! They also have a bar at the front you can sit at if you're solo or with a plus 1. Food (5/5): The Tonkotsu Ramen was very delicious with generous portions that my daughter and I was able to split. There is a lot of broth, so restaurant hack, order a side of noodles and there should be plenty to split with the exception of the toppings. Price (4/5): Id say that the price is competitive, especially being inside Irvine Spectrum. Ramen orders range from 16-25 per bowl. Service (3/5): They were prompt to take our order but never really checked on the table after the food was delivered. This is an area of opportunity for the team.

We used to love this place but it has gone downhill. The ramen is watered down now compared to how…read moreit was before. They give less protein for the same price or more depending on the dish. The broth tastes like water. They send out appetizers at the same time as the main meal. So customers are forced to let food get cold while they try to eat something else. A long time employee even admitted that there was a "change" to the broth. This is another case of a good business getting popular because of great food, bringing in a lot of customers, and then they get greedy and lower the product standard to make more money. For these reasons, in addition to a clump of hair in my ramen, that we will no longer be coming here after being customers for over 4 years.
