Combo - pork katsu, hot soba, miso, ca roll, salad and rice
    Ginna S.

I came here for the first time for a late dinner (7:30-8p) with a few friends. Thankfully, they were not busy and there was space to accommodate our group of 6 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant. We were seated fairly promptly and our orders taken quickly. All of us ordered combination meals (as pictured). For the price (a little less 30 dollars), I feel the food quality/quantity is fair. Specifically in regards to the food, as a person who loves variety, the combination meal gives you that experience- soba, katsu, salad, miso and etc...one star was taken off because when we were given our check, we were charged with a 20 percent gratuity charge, which included my nursing 3.5month old baby.Upon addressing the situation about my infant, they adjusted the bill .

I really like this place for the food. My favorite is the mackerel combo with cold soba. It's the perfect amount of food and the fish is very good. The downside is that it's a bit pricey :(. Lots of parking, service is kind of slow but the inside is clean and is good for small groups or a date.

Pork fillet cutlet combo, karaage, and special fish combo with mackerel

Came here on a Friday around 7 pm. You can make a reservation on Yelp beforehand. There's plenty of parking in the large lot shared by many businesses, a lot of them Japanese. We were greeted and sat immediately. We were warned that food may take longer than normal due to a chef calling out. We appreciated the information but found that everything went pretty smoothly for our party of 2. I asked our server whether we should get the Japanese breakfast combo or the special combo since I wanted to try here specifically for the combo. He said if I was looking for a bigger meal, the special combo would be best. I decided to go with the special fish combo with mackerel while my sister got the special pork fillet cutlet combo. Our server said he liked the cold soba better than hot so we chose cold soba. The combo also comes with a 4 piece California roll, salad, miso soup, and rice. They also had a small menu of extras that I don't see on their website, but it has other common Japanese appetizers. We ordered the fried chicken (karaage). We were presented with everything pretty quickly, I took my photo around 7:18 pm lol. Everything was delicious. The mackerel was simple, salty, and umami but I did enjoy the pork cutlet just a little bit more with the sauce and mustard. The cold soba was excellent, I was very happy we got that. The salad and California roll added some nice freshness, as did the shredded cabbage served with the karaage and pork cutlet. Both meats were fried perfectly, very crispy and not soggy at all. My sister and I have non-stop talked about this meal. It was so delicious and the price wasn't too bad. I have been very into eating a good variety of small dishes for meals, so I have been making some iterations at home. I'll maybe try to do this sometime because each item is pretty simple on its own, but ordering it here is 100% worth it. Will be back!

D- combo (grilled fish). Rice, grilled fish (mackerel), egg, natto, miso soup, cold tofu, and Japanese pickles

TL;DR - great quality, awesome place for Japanese breakfast This place is an amazing spot for Japanese breakfast. For those who haven't had Japanese breakfast before, you're going to be in for a treat. They serve basically anything you'd eat any other time of the day (rice, egg, fish, noodles, tofu, etc) but for breakfast and in smaller portions (think tapas). The quality is good and they have a reputation for that. I came here because I had a weird craving for Natto. It's essentially fermented soy beans. It has a strong smell, it's sticky, slimy, with stringy strands.. rich earthy flavor.... and you're probably thinking I'm weird but it's an acquired taste and I cannot find it anywhere else lol. As for the service, it's very fast, and they're very polite. Nice ambiance. Perfect for a gathering. The food is why we come back. Pricing is reasonable but a little on the high side if you're coming for breakfast. Worth it IMO!

I loooove Japanese breakfast!! This is the best spot in the South Bay to get a traditional Japanese breakfast! So delicious, light, healthy and satisfying. I got the C Combo with Grilled Fish. You can choose between salmon, mackerel, or Spanish mackerel. I chose salmon. The combo comes with the grilled fish, rice, miso soup, tofu, Japanese pickles, seaweed, and egg. You can also choose how you want your egg cooked. I recommend getting it as dashimaki style which is like a Japanese style rolled omelette with a delicious dashi flavor. Everything was soooo good, especially the salmon which was cooked very well and had a delightful smoky flavor. It wasn't dry at all. I felt like I was back in Japan. My husband also really enjoyed his Japanese breakfast combo D steak which was basically the same as mine but with steak instead of fish, and with additional natto. We will definitely be back! Service was excellent! Quick, attentive, and friendly! Follow them on IG @fukagawa_LA to get 5 percent off your bill! FYI: They prefer cash payment. Parking: free in Pacific Square plaza lot. They're in the corner next to Bowl Thai Grill.

I am always looking for some traditional Japanese food like my mother always made for me that most restaurants don't serve. This is the place! Kimpira, hiyayakko..more. I came a little close to closing and maybe wht my Saba was dry. My mother's salmon was dry as well. The service was fast and the staff was very welcoming! The place is spacious and they also.have outside seating.

When you're craving Japanese breakfast in the States, there aren't too many options out there. Thankfully, Fukagawa exists in Gardena, and what a gem it is! I've been here twice now, and both times I've ordered their breakfast menu set (they have a variety of menu options). I prefer to get the breakfast combo D (grilled fish) which comes with: - grilled fish, with option of salmon, mackeral, or spanish mackeral for additional $ - rice, egg (cooked to your preference), natto, miso soup, cold tofu, japanese pickles This time I also ordered a half order of their mountain yam soba noodles, which turned out to be the same price as a full size portion..?! Lol noted for future - just get the full size and share it with someone! The food is cooked to perfection; fish is grilled perfectly, natto is extra slimy, tofu is fresh and miso soup is yummylicious. Absolutely nothing to complain about - if you're craving Japanese breakfast OR just Japanese comfort food in general, I def recommend this spot. Parking is easy, it's in a large plaza with other stores/restaurants.

Special !!!! Salmon, hot udon, miso soup, Calif roll, salad, rice. You will be very happy.

Tasty, authentic, friendly....like eating in someone's home. This spot is in a Gardena shopping center I've known well for a popular dim sum restaurant. But never mind! Fukugawa has a great menu. I had the Special with salmon, udon, miso soup, salad, rice, and California roll. At $24 it's well priced and ample. People wait to get in! Worth it. Then for matcha at Pruvia coffee bar. This shopping center is where families and hipsters co-mingle. Yum!

If you're craving Japanese home-style cooking, this spot is worth a visit. The only downside is that the portions are quite small, so you'll probably need to order multiple dishes to feel full -- which makes it feel a bit pricey. In Japan, smaller portions are the norm, but since this is in the U.S., I wish they were a little more generous with the serving sizes.

I stopped in Friday to try their weekday Lunch Special which today happens to be a 2pc shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura over rice with miso soup and a half order of udon (or soba). The staff seemed busy despite only a few tables being filled, but I was seated quickly and ordered quickly. The decor and ambiance is very clean and Japanese inspired with a display of Japanese wood joining techniques in the back. The staff are courteous and friendly, answering when called. Food took a while to come out but it arrived hot. I received a box with tempura and rice, tentsuyu (tempura dip), miso soup, udon, and small section of mixed vegetables. The miso soup is fantastic, full bodied with plenty of tofu and nori. The udon was the most disappointing with a little to much bite in the noodle, a lack of unami, and the vegetable being lifeless. The tempura was good but heavily improved with the sweet and salty tentsuyu. It. For vegetable tempura I had half a shittake mushroom, and a large and small shishito pepper. I was expecting to hate the pepper, but it was good, not a lot of harsh flavors and the light tempura breading really helps the texture. The shrimp wasn't super fresh, but the flavor of the shrimp was still there which was fantastic. However the shrimp skin was a little rough and jagged, which could be an issue with preparation. All in all, a pretty good meal. Lovely in the area but nothing to drive far out for.

My wife and I stopped by Fukagawa for a late lunch around 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday, and the restaurant was completely empty. Since we'd been snacking throughout the earlier part of the day day, we weren't hungry enough to each get an entree, so we decided to share one of their special combos and also try the octopus carpaccio from the izakaya menu. We ordered the fish combo with mackerel and a side of cold soba noodles. The combo also came with four California rolls, miso soup, and a large bowl of rice -- more than enough food for the two of us to leave feeling very full. The portion size is generous, and while it may seem a bit pricey at first glance, you're definitely getting a lot of food. The mackerel was grilled beautifully -- lightly crisped skin, nicely salted, and full of flavor. If you order it, just be mindful that there are quite a few small bones. The disposable chopsticks they provide are fairly thick, which makes it a little tricky to cleanly pull the meat off the bones, so take your time. I also really enjoyed the cold soba, which was cooked to the perfect texture. The dipping sauce paired well with a touch of the included wasabi -- subtle, balanced, and refreshing. My only regret was the octopus carpaccio. The octopus itself was no different from what you'd find on a piece of nigiri, just sliced a bit differently. It had some excess moisture -- almost like it hadn't been fully pressed, which made it less pleasant to eat. I also wasn't a fan of the sriracha dotted on top of each piece, as it overwhelmed the flavor of the octopus. That said, I'd absolutely return for the special combo.

After going to Japan earlier this year, we've been craving Japanese food a lot. We found this place on Yelp and it seemed pretty authentic and exactly what we were looking for. The menu has a good variety, food came out fast and everything tasted great. It was also a good value for the portions. Would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for Japanese food.

I've dined here several times with my family, and every time I'm so pleased by their great service and delicious, authentic Japanese food. The restaurant has casual but comfortable vibe, great for groups or families. The menu has a great variety of Japanese cuisine dishes, and there's a happy hour menu too. This time I had their cold soba noodles with vegetable tempura. The noodles were delicious, and I enjoyed every slurp. The tempura was fried perfectly. It was hot, crispy, and so yummy!

The Japanese wings are legendary for a reason, crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and packed with flavor. Definitely lived up to the hype. Beyond the wings, we also grabbed the fried rice, skewers, and takoyaki, and honestly the takoyaki was one of the highlights of the night. Good portion, great flavor, and that perfect texture you want from it. The skewers were solid too and the fried rice rounded everything out nicely. The vibe is casual and cozy, perfect for a laid back dinner with a group. It does get busy so I'd recommend making a reservation since it's a smaller spot and fills up fast. Parking can get a little tight in the strip mall during peak hours too, just something to keep in mind. Overall a really satisfying izakaya experience in the Southbay. Been a go to spot for a lot of people in the area for a reason and after this visit I totally get why. Will definitely be back. I think besides the highlight of foods the other dishes were just pretty good.

Yesterday, I visited this location for the first time. The food here was hit and miss. I tried a variety of items off of the menu. Here is a rapid fire review of each item: -Edamame: 2/5 stars. Bland. Could have at least sprinkled a dash of salt to enhance the flavor. -Miso soup: 2/5 stars. Simple and not in a good way. Outside of what looked like green onions, it was just soup. Could have at least thrown in some tofu. -Ponzu pork belly skewer: 2/5 stars. Thought this would be very tasty since I love pork belly. Wasn't soft and tender. Lacked flavor. -Fried rice: 3/5 stars. It was ordinary fried rice. Nothing distinctive to note about it. Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. -Shiitake mushroom skewers: 3/5 stars. Not bad. Could have used sauce of some kind to jazz it up a little bit, but liked the smoky flavor. -Tebasaki wings: 4/5 stars. Crispy and tasty. Would have been five stars if it came out piping hot. -Korean BBQ short ribs: 4/5 stars. Very tasty and tender. Nice flavor. Came out sizzling. -Takoyaki: 4/5 stars. Enjoyed eating this a lot. I liked that it was firm and not mushy. The mayo was a nice touch. The service here was solid. The server was nice and courteous. But she never checked on my table. Rather than feeling cramped, it feels welcoming and authentic - a place where the focus stays on good food, good drinks, and good company. Over several visits, these have become my favorite dishes: Cabbage Salad with Spicy Sauce - 4/5. Torihei offers two versions of its cabbage salad: one with a garlic sesame dressing and another with a spicy sauce. The garlic sesame version is fine, but the spicy sauce is the clear winner. It features crunchy garlic and chili oil that add texture and depth without overwhelming heat. I would have liked a little more acidity to brighten the dish, but it's still an excellent way to start the meal. Chopped Cucumber with Sesame Oil - 4.5/5. One of my favorite appetizers at Torihei. The cucumbers are smashed rather than neatly sliced, which gives the dish a rustic character and helps the dressing cling to every surface. The addition of tomatoes is a smart touch, contributing acidity and freshness. Combined with the flavorful sesame dressing, it becomes far more interesting than its humble ingredients suggest. Soboro-don - 3/5. This small rice bowl comes topped with ground chicken, a poached egg, and pickles on the side. The rice is cooked well, and the chicken itself is clearly of good quality. However, the ground chicken is surprisingly underseasoned and could use more salt or additional seasoning. Despite that flaw, it's still a comforting dish thanks to the well-prepared rice and silky egg. Beef Tongue Curry Rice - 4/5. Despite its name, this dish eats more like a stew than a traditional Japanese curry. Fortunately, it's very tasty. The sauce is rich and meaty with just a hint of curry spice. At the same time, the beef tongue contributes a buttery texture and luxurious richness. It's hearty, comforting, and one of the more memorable rice dishes on the menu. Beef Tongue Soup - 5/5. This is a clean, balanced soup that showcases restraint. The broth has enough meatiness to be satisfying without becoming heavy, letting other umami flavors come through. The beef tongue itself is tender and rich, making this an excellent side dish to accompany the restaurant's grilled offerings. Yaki Oni - 4.5/5. The grilled rice ball is exceptionally well executed. Though triangular rather than spherical, it achieves the ideal texture contrast: a lightly crunchy exterior with a soft, substantial interior. The surface develops a beautiful golden-brown crust without crossing into burnt territory. It's a simple dish done right and a perfect accompaniment to skewers. Grilled Squid - 3.5/5. The squid is succulent and tender rather than rubbery, which is often the challenge with grilled squid. The flavor is enjoyable, though I would have welcomed a bit more char and grill marks. Pork Belly and Chicken Thigh Yakitori - 3/5. These skewers are solid but not standout. Both were slightly drier than I prefer. The pork belly could benefit from more rendered fat and richness. At the same time, the chicken thigh would be more appealing with a juicier finish. Chicken Hearts and Beef Tongue Yakitori - 4/5. These are among the stronger skewers on the menu. Heavily exercised cuts tend to offer deeper flavor, and both deliver. The chicken hearts have a satisfying richness, while the beef tongue combines robust flavor with pleasant marbling. If you're ordering yakitori, these are better choices than some of the more conventional cuts. Meatball Yakitori - 4.5/5. This is deservedly one of Torihei's signature dishes. The exterior develops an excellent browning and a slight crust, while the interior remains tender, juicy, and intensely meaty. Chicken Kara-age - 3.5/5. The kara-age is good, but it falls just short of greatness. A crispier crust and juicier chicken would elevate it significantly. Still, it's a satisfying version of a classic izakaya staple. Fried Shishito Peppers - 3.5/5. These peppers are mild rather than spicy and develop a pleasant glistening texture when fried. Their slight fibrousness gives them character, making them a simple but enjoyable side dish. Creamy Annin Tofu - 5/5. Available either plain or with green tea syrup, both versions are excellent, though the green tea syrup is the better choice. The texture is closer to a delicate pudding than tofu, and the sweetness is restrained and balanced. It's a deceptively simple dessert that provides a satisfying and elegant finish to the meal. No izakaya experience is complete without alcohol, and Torihei delivers. The sake and shochu selections are solid, offering enough variety to complement the menu. Beer options are mostly limited to familiar Japanese labels, but they pair perfectly with the food. Combined with its cozy atmosphere and solid drink selection, Torihei is the kind of neighborhood izakaya that earns regulars for good reason.

My bf doesn't even like espresso martinis and he enjoyed it. Service was great! Ambiance was very nice with beautiful plants and aesthetic. It's also on the Michelin list , which I can see why.

These plants appeared to have union representation. They're everywhere. Hanging from things. Growing out of things. Quietly observing your meal. The whole place feels like someone built a really nice restaurant and then let nature move in as a long term tenant. The room hums. Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just enough. Glasses clink. People lean into conversations. Servers weave through the room carrying plates that look heavy enough to alter their center of gravity. Nobody seems rushed. Everybody seems busy. It's a difficult balance. The biscuits arrived first. Now, I'd heard about the biscuits. People talk about these biscuits the way fishermen talk about the one that got away. Slightly dramatic. A little emotional. Hard to verify. Turns out the stories were true. Warm bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter. I took one bite and immediately understood why people order a second round. The outside has just enough structure to remind you it's baked. The inside is soft enough to make you wonder whether butter has secretly become a building material. We ordered another. Not because we needed another. Because apparently that's what happens here. The creamy polenta showed up next and felt like the culinary equivalent of a weighted blanket. Comforting. Smooth. Relaxed. The sort of dish that encourages you to slow down and stop checking your phone. The duck was one of my favorites. Lightly fried with crisp skin and tender meat, resting on white Italian beans and rosemary. It felt like something a French chef would cook after spending a weekend in the countryside and becoming briefly inspired by fresh air. At some point you stop evaluating food and simply nod in agreement with it. This was one of those moments. Dessert was equally dangerous. The olive oil cake arrived with strawberries and disappeared much faster than logic suggested it should. The cheesecake somehow managed to be rich and light at the same time, which feels like it should violate a law of physics somewhere. Service deserves its own mention. The whole team operates like a group project where everyone actually did their part. Plates appeared when they should. Water glasses mysteriously refilled themselves. Questions were answered without anyone making you feel like you should already know the answer. The chef's French influence shows up everywhere, but not in a showy way. Nothing feels complicated for the sake of being complicated. Everything feels like somebody spent a lot of time thinking about it so you wouldn't have to. By the end of the meal, I realized Manhattan Beach Post had done something difficult. It felt special without feeling serious. You can dress up. You can come casually. You can celebrate something important or absolutely nothing at all. Just order the biscuits. The plants already know you're going to.

I did not dine in the restaurants, so I can't speak to the in-person dining experience. Overall, I was impressed with the room service. Every meal arrived fresh, hot, and well-presented, and each staff member who delivered my food was friendly and courteous. Here are my thoughts on the items I ordered: Cali Burrito - Generous chunks of steak and shrimp made this a yummy with the portion size just right, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Clam Chowder - Good flavor and enjoyable overall. While I've had better clam chowder elsewhere, I would definitely order this again. Truffle Fries - I was craving ties so this hit the spot. Both the ketchup and black garlic sauce complemented them perfectly. Brussels Sprouts - Unfortunately, this dish missed the mark for me. There was too much sauce, which made it soggy and mushy, and the overall flavor was overly salty. Chocolate cake - this was a miss. It was dry. Cornmeal Pancakes - Absolutely delicious. The blueberry butter elevated the dish, and it was easily one of my favorite items during my stay. Overall, I was very pleased with my room service experience. The quality of the food and the excellent service left a positive impression, and I would be happy to dine at the restaurant itself the next time I'm in town.

Room service is always wonderful and the food comes from Baleen Kitchen. So I can attest to great coffee, fresh pastries and almost all of the breakfast choices. This day we enjoyed brunch outside at Baleen's. It was a beautiful setting with excellent service and very comfortable. We enjoyed the crabcake benedict, Huevos 'Redondos', Chia Pudding, and American Breakfast with bacon. The benedict was absolutely delicious and a special treat, the Huevos 'Redondos' was so very flavorful, and the American Breakfast is always a fan favorite. The breakfast potatoes are some of the best you will find. The portions are perfect, enough to fill your tummy. Enjoy the food, enjoy the scenery, enjoy the service! Sometimes food and service will be second when seeking out a marina type restaurant, but not here. They all three will put a smile on your face. Get out of the city, get to the beach for some ocean therapy and good food!
