Combo - pork katsu, hot soba, miso, ca roll, salad and rice
    Ginna S.

I came here for the first time for a late dinner (7:30-8p) with a few friends. Thankfully, they were not busy and there was space to accommodate our group of 6 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant. We were seated fairly promptly and our orders taken quickly. All of us ordered combination meals (as pictured). For the price (a little less 30 dollars), I feel the food quality/quantity is fair. Specifically in regards to the food, as a person who loves variety, the combination meal gives you that experience- soba, katsu, salad, miso and etc...one star was taken off because when we were given our check, we were charged with a 20 percent gratuity charge, which included my nursing 3.5month old baby.Upon addressing the situation about my infant, they adjusted the bill .

I really like this place for the food. My favorite is the mackerel combo with cold soba. It's the perfect amount of food and the fish is very good. The downside is that it's a bit pricey :(. Lots of parking, service is kind of slow but the inside is clean and is good for small groups or a date.

Pork fillet cutlet combo, karaage, and special fish combo with mackerel

Came here on a Friday around 7 pm. You can make a reservation on Yelp beforehand. There's plenty of parking in the large lot shared by many businesses, a lot of them Japanese. We were greeted and sat immediately. We were warned that food may take longer than normal due to a chef calling out. We appreciated the information but found that everything went pretty smoothly for our party of 2. I asked our server whether we should get the Japanese breakfast combo or the special combo since I wanted to try here specifically for the combo. He said if I was looking for a bigger meal, the special combo would be best. I decided to go with the special fish combo with mackerel while my sister got the special pork fillet cutlet combo. Our server said he liked the cold soba better than hot so we chose cold soba. The combo also comes with a 4 piece California roll, salad, miso soup, and rice. They also had a small menu of extras that I don't see on their website, but it has other common Japanese appetizers. We ordered the fried chicken (karaage). We were presented with everything pretty quickly, I took my photo around 7:18 pm lol. Everything was delicious. The mackerel was simple, salty, and umami but I did enjoy the pork cutlet just a little bit more with the sauce and mustard. The cold soba was excellent, I was very happy we got that. The salad and California roll added some nice freshness, as did the shredded cabbage served with the karaage and pork cutlet. Both meats were fried perfectly, very crispy and not soggy at all. My sister and I have non-stop talked about this meal. It was so delicious and the price wasn't too bad. I have been very into eating a good variety of small dishes for meals, so I have been making some iterations at home. I'll maybe try to do this sometime because each item is pretty simple on its own, but ordering it here is 100% worth it. Will be back!

D- combo (grilled fish). Rice, grilled fish (mackerel), egg, natto, miso soup, cold tofu, and Japanese pickles

TL;DR - great quality, awesome place for Japanese breakfast This place is an amazing spot for Japanese breakfast. For those who haven't had Japanese breakfast before, you're going to be in for a treat. They serve basically anything you'd eat any other time of the day (rice, egg, fish, noodles, tofu, etc) but for breakfast and in smaller portions (think tapas). The quality is good and they have a reputation for that. I came here because I had a weird craving for Natto. It's essentially fermented soy beans. It has a strong smell, it's sticky, slimy, with stringy strands.. rich earthy flavor.... and you're probably thinking I'm weird but it's an acquired taste and I cannot find it anywhere else lol. As for the service, it's very fast, and they're very polite. Nice ambiance. Perfect for a gathering. The food is why we come back. Pricing is reasonable but a little on the high side if you're coming for breakfast. Worth it IMO!

I loooove Japanese breakfast!! This is the best spot in the South Bay to get a traditional Japanese breakfast! So delicious, light, healthy and satisfying. I got the C Combo with Grilled Fish. You can choose between salmon, mackerel, or Spanish mackerel. I chose salmon. The combo comes with the grilled fish, rice, miso soup, tofu, Japanese pickles, seaweed, and egg. You can also choose how you want your egg cooked. I recommend getting it as dashimaki style which is like a Japanese style rolled omelette with a delicious dashi flavor. Everything was soooo good, especially the salmon which was cooked very well and had a delightful smoky flavor. It wasn't dry at all. I felt like I was back in Japan. My husband also really enjoyed his Japanese breakfast combo D steak which was basically the same as mine but with steak instead of fish, and with additional natto. We will definitely be back! Service was excellent! Quick, attentive, and friendly! Follow them on IG @fukagawa_LA to get 5 percent off your bill! FYI: They prefer cash payment. Parking: free in Pacific Square plaza lot. They're in the corner next to Bowl Thai Grill.

I am always looking for some traditional Japanese food like my mother always made for me that most restaurants don't serve. This is the place! Kimpira, hiyayakko..more. I came a little close to closing and maybe wht my Saba was dry. My mother's salmon was dry as well. The service was fast and the staff was very welcoming! The place is spacious and they also.have outside seating.

When you're craving Japanese breakfast in the States, there aren't too many options out there. Thankfully, Fukagawa exists in Gardena, and what a gem it is! I've been here twice now, and both times I've ordered their breakfast menu set (they have a variety of menu options). I prefer to get the breakfast combo D (grilled fish) which comes with: - grilled fish, with option of salmon, mackeral, or spanish mackeral for additional $ - rice, egg (cooked to your preference), natto, miso soup, cold tofu, japanese pickles This time I also ordered a half order of their mountain yam soba noodles, which turned out to be the same price as a full size portion..?! Lol noted for future - just get the full size and share it with someone! The food is cooked to perfection; fish is grilled perfectly, natto is extra slimy, tofu is fresh and miso soup is yummylicious. Absolutely nothing to complain about - if you're craving Japanese breakfast OR just Japanese comfort food in general, I def recommend this spot. Parking is easy, it's in a large plaza with other stores/restaurants.

Special !!!! Salmon, hot udon, miso soup, Calif roll, salad, rice. You will be very happy.

Tasty, authentic, friendly....like eating in someone's home. This spot is in a Gardena shopping center I've known well for a popular dim sum restaurant. But never mind! Fukugawa has a great menu. I had the Special with salmon, udon, miso soup, salad, rice, and California roll. At $24 it's well priced and ample. People wait to get in! Worth it. Then for matcha at Pruvia coffee bar. This shopping center is where families and hipsters co-mingle. Yum!

If you're craving Japanese home-style cooking, this spot is worth a visit. The only downside is that the portions are quite small, so you'll probably need to order multiple dishes to feel full -- which makes it feel a bit pricey. In Japan, smaller portions are the norm, but since this is in the U.S., I wish they were a little more generous with the serving sizes.

I stopped in Friday to try their weekday Lunch Special which today happens to be a 2pc shrimp tempura and vegetable tempura over rice with miso soup and a half order of udon (or soba). The staff seemed busy despite only a few tables being filled, but I was seated quickly and ordered quickly. The decor and ambiance is very clean and Japanese inspired with a display of Japanese wood joining techniques in the back. The staff are courteous and friendly, answering when called. Food took a while to come out but it arrived hot. I received a box with tempura and rice, tentsuyu (tempura dip), miso soup, udon, and small section of mixed vegetables. The miso soup is fantastic, full bodied with plenty of tofu and nori. The udon was the most disappointing with a little to much bite in the noodle, a lack of unami, and the vegetable being lifeless. The tempura was good but heavily improved with the sweet and salty tentsuyu. It. For vegetable tempura I had half a shittake mushroom, and a large and small shishito pepper. I was expecting to hate the pepper, but it was good, not a lot of harsh flavors and the light tempura breading really helps the texture. The shrimp wasn't super fresh, but the flavor of the shrimp was still there which was fantastic. However the shrimp skin was a little rough and jagged, which could be an issue with preparation. All in all, a pretty good meal. Lovely in the area but nothing to drive far out for.

My wife and I stopped by Fukagawa for a late lunch around 3:00 p.m. on a Sunday, and the restaurant was completely empty. Since we'd been snacking throughout the earlier part of the day day, we weren't hungry enough to each get an entree, so we decided to share one of their special combos and also try the octopus carpaccio from the izakaya menu. We ordered the fish combo with mackerel and a side of cold soba noodles. The combo also came with four California rolls, miso soup, and a large bowl of rice -- more than enough food for the two of us to leave feeling very full. The portion size is generous, and while it may seem a bit pricey at first glance, you're definitely getting a lot of food. The mackerel was grilled beautifully -- lightly crisped skin, nicely salted, and full of flavor. If you order it, just be mindful that there are quite a few small bones. The disposable chopsticks they provide are fairly thick, which makes it a little tricky to cleanly pull the meat off the bones, so take your time. I also really enjoyed the cold soba, which was cooked to the perfect texture. The dipping sauce paired well with a touch of the included wasabi -- subtle, balanced, and refreshing. My only regret was the octopus carpaccio. The octopus itself was no different from what you'd find on a piece of nigiri, just sliced a bit differently. It had some excess moisture -- almost like it hadn't been fully pressed, which made it less pleasant to eat. I also wasn't a fan of the sriracha dotted on top of each piece, as it overwhelmed the flavor of the octopus. That said, I'd absolutely return for the special combo.

After going to Japan earlier this year, we've been craving Japanese food a lot. We found this place on Yelp and it seemed pretty authentic and exactly what we were looking for. The menu has a good variety, food came out fast and everything tasted great. It was also a good value for the portions. Would definitely recommend if you're in the mood for Japanese food.

I've dined here several times with my family, and every time I'm so pleased by their great service and delicious, authentic Japanese food. The restaurant has casual but comfortable vibe, great for groups or families. The menu has a great variety of Japanese cuisine dishes, and there's a happy hour menu too. This time I had their cold soba noodles with vegetable tempura. The noodles were delicious, and I enjoyed every slurp. The tempura was fried perfectly. It was hot, crispy, and so yummy!

I came here recently for the first time in a while and ordered a whole original rotisserie chicken with a side of Maison rice and potato salad. The meal also came with six pieces of pita bread and two garlic sauces. I ended up purchasing two additional garlic sauces for $0.95 each because I don't think two are enough for the entire meal. The meal easily fed three people, and we still had leftover chicken. The chicken is always moist, flavorful, and well-seasoned. The rice is also very good. I believe it's basmati rice, and it contains golden raisins that give it a slightly sweet flavor. The potato salad is tasty, but don't expect a traditional mayo-based potato salad. I don't think it contains any mayo at all. It has a tangy, slightly sour taste, and I think they may use red wine vinegar in it. The pita bread is good, but I like to put mine in the air fryer and turn it into pita chips. They come out nice and crispy, and they're perfect for dipping into the garlic sauce. Their garlic sauce is one of the best I've had. I've also tried the chicken fettuccine alfredo. It's flavorful and loaded with vegetables, but it's definitely a rich, heavy dish and can be a bit oily. If you don't mind splurging on calories once in a while, it's worth trying. For dessert, I usually get the pita chips glazed with honey and sugar and topped with chopped pistachios. They're absolutely delicious and incredibly addictive. I try not to order them too often because it's easy to finish the entire container in one sitting. Prices have gone up over the years, just like everywhere else, but they're still reasonable. Their family meals, in particular, continue to be a great value.
