    Katsu Chicken Plate
    Elise B.

I went for dinner and it was busy inside. I ordered the chicken katsu plate which comes with rice, miso soup, & Japanese pickles. I was so happy with my choice. The katsu was crispy & not greasy and it was a decent amount of chicken. Definitely a filling plate for dinner, so come hungry.

Hidden in the inner corner of a shopping plaza in Gardena, the restaurant features Japanese-style décor, a 15-person party room, and enough space to accommodate 60 guests. When we arrived for lunch, the place was quite festive with a mixture of young people, families with kids, and an ongoing lunch party with senior ladies. Luckily, we were able to get the last table, and the friendly waiter brought the water and menus right away. After browsing through their menu, we ordered the following items: Special Fish Combo (Spanish Mackerel): The Spanish mackerel was nicely grilled but lightly seasoned. It had quite a few bones, which took a little bit out of the enjoyment of the meal. The udon noodles had a very nice texture, however the broth was on the bland side. The California rolls were well made and flavorful. Tempura Combo: The shrimps were tender, however, the battered outer layer of the tempura was a tad thick and not quite airy. Like Fish Combo, the udon had a bland broth, and the California rolls were fine. Our main issue was the 50-minute wait time for the meals. As a courtesy, the restaurant definitely should have informed us about the delay.

Premier find for excellent Japanese cuisine. My girlfriend and I came here for an early Saturday dinner after a day on the water in Long Beach. When we arrived luckily there was no wait and were sat immediately. Luckily it was only a couple moments before a party of maybe 12 arrived behind us for dinner. Our host and server were helpful and efficient. We quickly scanned through their menu and decided on their combos (pork cutlet and tempura) Our trays of paradise quickly arrived and looked beautiful! ( see attached for reference ) i loved the balanced presentation and blend of flavors. Each tray had some miso, a 4 bite California roll, some rice, soba noodles, broth, wasabi and ginger. Mine came with some dipping sauce for the tempura. Considering the amount of food I was very satisfied. The tempura was gorgeously crafted with semi thin crisped batter, and a decent amount portioned. I was mostly amazed by my girlfriends pork plate. Their crisp cutlet had beautifully made with an easy crunchy exterior and soft tender pork savory to taste. All elements complimented each other perfectly. Their soba was also good quality and a nice touch to an already balanced dinner. While I was exactly stuffed after dinner, i was still impressed with their entree presentation, quality of food, calming ambiance and great service.

Got the Special Fish Combo with Salmon. A very enjoyable meal. I know this sounds corny, but I had a fun time eating all of those small dishes. The miso soup was very good. The soba was properly cooked. The broth probably used a soy sauce base with some sugar. I believe the vegetables in the broth were spinach. The salad dressing was creamy with some sweetness. Perhaps, a sesame dressing. Good tasting California rolls. The salmon had a charred taste. Could have used a little less salt. But if you eat the salmon with the white rice, it works. Service was prompt and responsive. One caveat is that the tables are close enough to each other where you can definitely hear all of the adjacent diner"s business. Fukagawa is located in Pacific Square Shopping Center, which has a large parking lot. I will definitely be back to try the Special Deep Fried Oyster Combo. I really enjoy eating Kaki Fry with mayonnaise and/or tonkatsu sauce.

Small, traditional feel, Japanese restaurant in Gardena. I wide selection of food to choose from including lots of sets which I love. It's like a mix and match of chicken, tempura, soba or udon, with rice, salad and miso. I love those types of options and this place does that well. We went on a Sunday for lunch. Busy! You just stand in line. No reception or list. I think that's awkward. Need something to manage the wait. It's odd. Service is friendly. The food can take awhile to come out. It's also not the type of place where they will check-in on you or refill your water. You have to yell out. Big parking lot with lots of stores to shop around too.

We made a reservation for 12:45 PM, just before they closed for their afternoon break at 2 PM (they reopen at 5 PM for dinner), and everything went smoothly. We both ordered the special fish combo, which came with mackerel, salmon, rice, salad, miso soup, and a half order of soba. Unfortunately, they ran out of the California rolls, but they were happy to substitute them with gyozas, which turned out to be a great swap! The service was a little on the slower side, but the food was definitely worth the wait. Both the salmon and mackerel were cooked perfectly, the soba had a nice chewy texture, and the meal felt balanced and satisfying. The gyozas were also crispy and flavorful. The restaurant has a cozy, authentic Japanese vibe that makes you feel like you're dining at a neighborhood spot in Japan.

I really like this place for the food. My favorite is the mackerel combo with cold soba. It's the perfect amount of food and the fish is very good. The downside is that it's a bit pricey :(. Lots of parking, service is kind of slow but the inside is clean and is good for small groups or a date.

I came here for the first time for a late dinner (7:30-8p) with a few friends. Thankfully, they were not busy and there was space to accommodate our group of 6 adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant. We were seated fairly promptly and our orders taken quickly. All of us ordered combination meals (as pictured). For the price (a little less 30 dollars), I feel the food quality/quantity is fair. Specifically in regards to the food, as a person who loves variety, the combination meal gives you that experience- soba, katsu, salad, miso and etc...one star was taken off because when we were given our check, we were charged with a 20 percent gratuity charge, which included my nursing 3.5month old baby.Upon addressing the situation about my infant, they adjusted the bill .

Pork fillet cutlet combo, karaage, and special fish combo with mackerel

Came here on a Friday around 7 pm. You can make a reservation on Yelp beforehand. There's plenty of parking in the large lot shared by many businesses, a lot of them Japanese. We were greeted and sat immediately. We were warned that food may take longer than normal due to a chef calling out. We appreciated the information but found that everything went pretty smoothly for our party of 2. I asked our server whether we should get the Japanese breakfast combo or the special combo since I wanted to try here specifically for the combo. He said if I was looking for a bigger meal, the special combo would be best. I decided to go with the special fish combo with mackerel while my sister got the special pork fillet cutlet combo. Our server said he liked the cold soba better than hot so we chose cold soba. The combo also comes with a 4 piece California roll, salad, miso soup, and rice. They also had a small menu of extras that I don't see on their website, but it has other common Japanese appetizers. We ordered the fried chicken (karaage). We were presented with everything pretty quickly, I took my photo around 7:18 pm lol. Everything was delicious. The mackerel was simple, salty, and umami but I did enjoy the pork cutlet just a little bit more with the sauce and mustard. The cold soba was excellent, I was very happy we got that. The salad and California roll added some nice freshness, as did the shredded cabbage served with the karaage and pork cutlet. Both meats were fried perfectly, very crispy and not soggy at all. My sister and I have non-stop talked about this meal. It was so delicious and the price wasn't too bad. I have been very into eating a good variety of small dishes for meals, so I have been making some iterations at home. I'll maybe try to do this sometime because each item is pretty simple on its own, but ordering it here is 100% worth it. Will be back!

D- combo (grilled fish). Rice, grilled fish (mackerel), egg, natto, miso soup, cold tofu, and Japanese pickles

TL;DR - great quality, awesome place for Japanese breakfast This place is an amazing spot for Japanese breakfast. For those who haven't had Japanese breakfast before, you're going to be in for a treat. They serve basically anything you'd eat any other time of the day (rice, egg, fish, noodles, tofu, etc) but for breakfast and in smaller portions (think tapas). The quality is good and they have a reputation for that. I came here because I had a weird craving for Natto. It's essentially fermented soy beans. It has a strong smell, it's sticky, slimy, with stringy strands.. rich earthy flavor.... and you're probably thinking I'm weird but it's an acquired taste and I cannot find it anywhere else lol. As for the service, it's very fast, and they're very polite. Nice ambiance. Perfect for a gathering. The food is why we come back. Pricing is reasonable but a little on the high side if you're coming for breakfast. Worth it IMO!

I loooove Japanese breakfast!! This is the best spot in the South Bay to get a traditional Japanese breakfast! So delicious, light, healthy and satisfying. I got the C Combo with Grilled Fish. You can choose between salmon, mackerel, or Spanish mackerel. I chose salmon. The combo comes with the grilled fish, rice, miso soup, tofu, Japanese pickles, seaweed, and egg. You can also choose how you want your egg cooked. I recommend getting it as dashimaki style which is like a Japanese style rolled omelette with a delicious dashi flavor. Everything was soooo good, especially the salmon which was cooked very well and had a delightful smoky flavor. It wasn't dry at all. I felt like I was back in Japan. My husband also really enjoyed his Japanese breakfast combo D steak which was basically the same as mine but with steak instead of fish, and with additional natto. We will definitely be back! Service was excellent! Quick, attentive, and friendly! Follow them on IG @fukagawa_LA to get 5 percent off your bill! FYI: They prefer cash payment. Parking: free in Pacific Square plaza lot. They're in the corner next to Bowl Thai Grill.

When you're craving Japanese breakfast in the States, there aren't too many options out there. Thankfully, Fukagawa exists in Gardena, and what a gem it is! I've been here twice now, and both times I've ordered their breakfast menu set (they have a variety of menu options). I prefer to get the breakfast combo D (grilled fish) which comes with: - grilled fish, with option of salmon, mackeral, or spanish mackeral for additional $ - rice, egg (cooked to your preference), natto, miso soup, cold tofu, japanese pickles This time I also ordered a half order of their mountain yam soba noodles, which turned out to be the same price as a full size portion..?! Lol noted for future - just get the full size and share it with someone! The food is cooked to perfection; fish is grilled perfectly, natto is extra slimy, tofu is fresh and miso soup is yummylicious. Absolutely nothing to complain about - if you're craving Japanese breakfast OR just Japanese comfort food in general, I def recommend this spot. Parking is easy, it's in a large plaza with other stores/restaurants.

My local favorite Japanese spot! Food is authentic and very good! I usually get their pork katsu set (very large portion!) but decided on the ooyako jyu today. Highly recommend for people visiting!

That being said, I didn't care for the brown rice which was bland, and the potato salad, which was too vinegary for my taste. The service was very good. The food was ready in a few minutes. Additionally, an employee brought the food out to me even though I ordered takeout, which was nice. I'm glad I didn't dine in. It's literally like eating grandma's food when youre a young child. The spicy tuna came out first and we were shocked at how delicious the fish was. My only gripe was that it had a bit too much rice which could have been better balanced with a thicker slice of spam. Regardless, it was solid. Now the star was the chicken combo. Boy oh boy, that Ladybug Fried Chicken was amazing. The batter had so much flavor and added to the juicy chicken. Pair that with you salad and mac salad.. oh my.. youre tasting a slice of Heaven!
