Okay, so just to throw this out there at the start, this place is AMAZING! Being unfamiliar with Astoria, the Hubs and I turned to Yelp to find a good dinner spot for Honeymoon dinner #2. The menu at Fulio's looked solid, but the reviews seemed pretty mixed. We decided to take our chances and we are SO glad that we did. Service was spot on, food was out quick and prepared perfectly and the price was good. Our server helped us select a wine (request was for something easily drinkable and uncomplicated - we were going for Italian comfort here!), suggesting a solid Chianti that we liked. We started with the Seared Caesar salad - highly recommended to us by the driver on the way over. I'm not sure what kind of magic they have in that kitchen, but it was incredible! Somehow we this salad tasted like steak! Hubs reported that he would have no problem eating more vegis if they all tasted that good. I had a perfectly prepared Chicken Parmesan, while the Hubs had the Penne Puttanesca, which he had really been looking forward to (it didn't disappoint). The portions were pretty generous - neither of us could finish our meals and ended up taking about half home for lunch. What a gem! The location was convenient, and the decor was pleasant. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive; our waitress was great - the right amount of presence without being overbearing. We shared a Greek salad that was big enough for two. It had a wonderful creamy feta, and more ingredients than the usual Greek salad elsewhere. One of us had the seafood antipasto as a main course. It was big enough for an entree, and had better-than-expected ingredients - Dungeness crab, fresh (not salty canned) anchovies, smoked salmon, shrimp, etc. The other had the Checca, a shrimp pasta in a wine sauce. It was large (7 or 8 shrimp), and had these marvelous tiny Peruvian peppers. It was to die for. How anybody could complain about this place is beyond me. It was outstanding, and a good value. Fulios passes the test in a restuarant scene that is quite competitive for any city where the citizens have grown accustomed to a fine dining experience. Astoria has become just that over the years. Fulios was one of the first to establish that if you build a beautiful dining room, stay true to fresh ingredients, and insist on a professional wait staff you will be successful. All this and it's kid friendly as well with a menu of dishes picky eaters will enjoy. The wine selection is diverse. In addition the owner has opened a full service deli packed with imported meats and cheeses just next door where they will prepare a picnic to order. read more

After three days of seafood we needed a change! Hotel recommended this place. My shrimp dish was a little dry but by adding some fresh lemon perked it right up. Spouses veal piccata must have been very good- he inhaled it! The reason for the 2 stars was for the poor service. No refills on the water and could not get a second drink from the server. My husband and I ate here last night, we usually do not eat cheese or anything of the sort, so it was a real treat. We walked into the restaurant both window seats were empty so we had primo seating, it was beautiful having a sidewalk view in Astoria at night. Sadly they did not have the veggie lasagna which I really wanted. My husbands lemon drop cocktail was beautiful and delicious. We both got side salads which were very fresh and yummy. He also got the eggplant parmesan- which came out bubbling from the oven looking amazing, sadly was mostly marinara and cheese very little substance. I got the Rigatoni Salsa Rosa which him and I devoured was delicious! The service was really great and would probably go back if we were going to splurge again, I bet that lasagna is amazing! read more

My husband and I really enjoyed Fulio's. He had the eggplant parm and I had the fettuccini Alfredo. Both were very good and tasted fresh and homemade! I love the bread and oil/vinegar, even if it is $2. Waiter and waitress were really nice, and very quick, we were in and out in no time! Best Italian on the Northern Oregon Coast. Excellent atmosphere, great food, average prices. Staff is usually friendly, however probably not the best place if you have young kids. Made a reservation and showed up with 3 young kids and for some reason, couldn't find our reservation. We made it online and the response we received was well' we don't check the online reservation book sometimes ' . there were plenty of tables available at the time of our arrival, so maybe it was overbooked..........or not, anyways a great place if you're looking for great food and nice relaxing atmosphere. Try the seared caesar, love it! Unfortunately haven't been back, maybe someday, probably a date night with the better half, no kids! read more

As others have said, the food, service, decor, and ambiance are all excellent. Even though the staff was surprised by an unexpected party of eleven on an already busy night, they were attentive to all and the meal was paced well. Our appetizer, the "Melanzana di Pisa", was a delicious mingling of fried eggplant, goat cheese, pesto, tomato, and olive tapanade--ample for two. Entrees were generous and delicious, and I really liked being able to choose between an alfredo and a marinara sauce for the side of pasta that accompanied my veal. Now that I know how good the chef is, I want to go back and try some of the more inventive dishes on the menu. Nice wine list. Everything is well-priced and of high quality. read more

Friendly staff, great food - real sliced garlic in the Penne Arrabiata and the waiter gave the kids a free scoop of spumoni! Good size portions on the dishes. Small but clean dining area with an authentic feel, like your Grandma is cooking back in the kitchen. My boyfriend and I both ordered the fettuccine with smoked salmon in it. The noodles weren't done all the way and the sauce was like that out of a can or even worse. Hardly any pieces of smoked salmon. Definitely no where near worth $17 a plate. Maybe we came on a bad day or picked a poor menu choice? Either way we won't be returning. I tried this place 2 years ago when I move to Astoria and the food was bland. Thinking it may have gotten better I ordered takeout last night. Here's my review: 1. The prices on their online menu are WRONG. My husband came home with an inflated receipt and when I called about the over prices they said the Owner never changed the online prices! Really? way to false advertise to the public. So beware-add about $2-4 to each item if your looking at the online menu! 2. The food is still BLAND. I seriously could make a better fettuccine dish in my house for $5 then waste $14 and a trip to Fulios. The lasagna was so greasy that it tasted like you were eating a bottle of olive oil. 3. The tiramisu, which I was excited for after eating the bland dinner was disgusting. I tried one bite and spit it out, it looked and tasted expired or like it had been sitting in their fridge for days. Definitely NOT fresh or edible. What a waste of $7-9 (since the price was wrong on the website). Disappointed and will never go back here. Just another restaurant in Astoria that is disappointing. read more

I had the chicken picata for dinner and two others in my party had the chicken parmesian. Both were yummy, but the star of our table was the steak that my grandmother ordered. My wife and I first noticed the tasteful and restful decor, a grade above most places hereabouts. The waitstaff is professional. No complaints. The food? You decide. My wife ordered Penne Putanesca. Putanesca sauce was made with black olives, not Kalamatas. A matter of taste perhaps but where we come from Kalamatas are a mandatory for authenticity. The onions and the garlic were well proportioned as were the anchovies and capers, but it was a mystery to us as to why the red pepper flakes were used as the main flavoring, rather than as an undertone the enhances the dish. The resultant "hot mouth" was appropriate for an Indian restaurant in Bombay. If that's what you like, go for it. My dish, Clams Linguine, was on the special. Plenty of claims. Yum. The linguine was nicely cooked. The sauce, classically wine based, seemed more likely to be from an incomplete draining of the pasta. OK, but nothing special. To be fair let it be noted that Fulio's replaced my wife's overly spiced Penne Putanesca. The result was, like the Clams Linguine, OK but nothing special. I would not judge a restaurant by two dishes served at a one-time visit. The ambiance and the decor bespeak of an establishment that is trying to do it right. Here's hoping they do. We'll be trying Fulios again, but not in the near future. read more

My wife and I really enjoyed our experience at Fulio's. The service was courteous, professional, speedy and not overly solicitous- this despite the fact that they were also serving a party of 20 when we arrived. For an appetizer we shared an order of Griglia Verdura (grilled vegetables), an excellent alternative to ordering dinner salads. I had Penne Putanesca with rock shrimp and my wife had a linguine dish with prawns. We shared a bottle of Chianti that was recommended by the waiter. The portions were generous. My entree was expertly prepared. The flavorful sauce had just enough anchovies and capers to make a statement without overwhelming the delicious shrimp. It was served piping hot. My wife raved about her entree.The wine was excellent. We will definitely return when we are in Astoria. read more

Overall, we were pretty disappointed. I got the rigatoni mutard and my wife fettuccine alfredo with meatballs. My dinner was OK but very uneventful. Only a few pieces of sausage. My wife's dinner wasn't very good at all. Watered down alfredo sauce and 2 tasteless meatballs. The only thing we cared for were the warm olive appetizer. Our server was a dork, singing bad classical Italian opera while serving our dinner was a big turn off. What a great spot for a birthday celebration or romantic evening. My step-mom is Italian and she wanted to go here for her birthday while we were visiting on an RV trip to Astoria, and I had my doubts that a pasta place would rise up to a special occasion. But this isn't a run-of-the mill Americanized Italian restaurant with bland sauces and loads of cheap noodles you'll find like a lot of places. This restaurant has an incredibly skilled chef, superb hi-caliber wait staff and a diverse menu with a few simple meat and pasta dishes and several other dishes with tons of flair, creativity and flavor. I had the Dungeness Crab Linguine, it was scrumptious but not overpoweringly fishy tasting. My husband had the spinach salad - it had to be one of the most interesting and colorful ones I've ever had. And the drinks were perfecto- I had a Lemon Drop that was made just the way I wanted - tangy with a hit of sweetness. I'd have given it a 5 star rating but I was hoping to have more crab in my pasta dish, but overall it was terrific and I'd go back. read more

This was one of my bosses favorite places to eat so I came here about once a month when I lived in Astoria. They were pretty good, I just got tired of the limited menu. Expensive but since I wasn't paying, I'm not complaining. Really good seared salad aka Seared Insalata di Cesare, never had it before mmm with the parmesan crisps. Always got the Rigatoni Salsa Rosa and the Ravioli di Zucca. YUM. Also good appetizers and mouth watering house bread served hot first thing. We had a favorite waiter (Andy?? I'm bad with names) he had tattoos..anyway super nice and humorous. I like the fact that it's family owned. Good for kids when you get the private room in the back. This is the 3rd year in a row we have come to Astoria for 4th of July, and the 3rd year in a row we have been to Fulio's. I thought it was about time I wrote a review. Don't let the look of the place fool you. Yeah, they have beautiful tables, cloth napkins and gorgeous vinyl wallpaper with wainscoting on the walls. There is nothing uptight about the place, it's just a nice looking place. The staff are all super fun and they play great music at a reasonable level overhead. During our dinner tonight we heard AC/DC, the Eagles, Billy Joel, Robert Plant and Bad Company. The vibe is great! My wife has a service dog for her medical condition and they made a point to put us at a table that was big enough for Halle to curl up underneath. In the past they have brought bowls of water and offered treats. Major bonus if you have any idea how difficult it can be finding places that are accommodating for service animals. The food is fantastic! We both had chicken parmesan as a show of respect to Peyton Manning winning the super bowl and going out in style (even though we are hardcore Seahawks fans). You get more than enough to eat and every bite is better than the last! In the past I have had lasagna and a sausage dish, and all were top notch. I don't believe it is possible to leave this place disappointed. Oh, yeah, and the prices...two dinners, one glass of wine and two non-alcoholic beers cost a grand total of $49. I try not to attack the owner of any business on personal level but in this case I have to make a exception. I will tell you what happened you be the judge . My wife and I brought a friend from out of town to dinner. We had a great waiter and the food was excellent. So why such a low rating? The owner! As he walked by the table I expressed how wonderful the meal and service were and instead of thanking me he had the balls to ask me how much I had eaten. I had ordered clams. I had not even considered they were part of his daily special, on his blackboard it said all you can eat. I am, obese so I guess this idiot thought I must have come to his place to graze. I was humiliated beyond words and all I wanted to do was get out of restaurant as fast as possible. I will never be back! I can't believe even on his worst day that he would treat a patron that way. For the record I had one serving and the waiter sensing I wanted more had put a few more clams on my dish. Not asked for and certainly not needed. If they were giving food away I would not patronize this place again. Oh and if you are trying to find a place to park downtown during dinner hour chances are that prime parking spot in front of his business will be occupied by his car. I'm sure he has lost thousands because potential customers could not find a place to park. I always encourage people to shop local and I love taking out of town guests to good restaurants this place is not on my list of places to visit in Astoria. read more

You'd be a FOOL-io to eat at Fulio's. From the rude service, to the bland, straight-from-a-can-of-Chef-Boyardee food, this place has a thing or three to learn about Italian food and hospitality. Our waitress had an attitude problem from the start. We walked in, I said we had a reservation, and she rolled her eyes. "Did you make it online?" she asked. "The Owner is super old and doesn't have a clue with technology," she smirked. I'm still not sure why she had this reaction to me simply saying we had a reservation. The place was completely empty, so whether we had a reservation or not, it didn't really matter. No need to bad mouth the boss! We sat down, looked at our menus, and immediately, a different waitress comes over for drink orders. We said we needed a minute. Then, bad attitude waitress shows up for drinks, and we got a bottle of wine. She told us "You should really get this other bottle. The one you want is crap, and I don't want to sell you crap." Umm... okay... Why are you calling your own food/wine "crap"? Whatever, we took her recommendation and moved on. The same different waitress shows up trying to get our drink orders again, and we said we already gave them to another waitress. Flustered, she scooted away. Umm... communication, much? The place was nearly empty and every 3 minutes someone was in our faces. Truly annoying and super uncomfortable to constantly be interrupted. Now, the truly awful food. We got this sad bread, cheese, garlic... thing, drowning in a pool of cheese grease and olive oil. Bland and disgusting. My husband got the meat lasagna and I got the scampi. My husband's lasagna tasted exactly like some Chef Boyardee meets canned dog food concoction. Seriously, even the Olive Garden has better food than this. To top it off, it was soggy, greasy, and was clearly microwaved to a boiling mess before being messily dropped on his plate. My scampi was a sad pile of noodles with a whopping six over-cooked shrimp lining the plate. There was supposed to be a garlic wine sauce with some basil on it, but the noodles were dry, not fresh, and completely tasteless. We both ate 1/3 of our plates and begrudgingly took the rest home. For a $63 bill? We expected A LOT more out of this place. But then again, upon looking around, everyone in there was over 60 years old. Perhaps they're catering to worn out, baby taste buds. Upon paying the outrageous bill, rude waitress appears and asks us "Where are you guys staying?" We tell her that we live here in Astoria. She says "Oh! I thought you were tourists staying at The Cannery!" Okay, I still have no idea what this means, but her tone of voice indicated that this was some sort of insult or something. It's at this point we were pretty angry for leaving a 20% tip. In short, this place is utter crap. If you actually want good food and great service, hit up Astoria Coffeehouse, Fort George or Buoy Brewing. For half the cost you get super fresh, awesome food AND solid customer service. read more
