I LOVE good BBQ but sadly this was not it. I tried the Chicken and Ribs combo with Squash Casserole and Baked Beans. When I asked the cashier about the potato salad, she remarked "I don't eat that stuff." Not cool. Anyway, the Baked Beans were the star of the plate, followed by the Squash and fresh bread. It went downhill on the meats quickly. There was NOTHING that said BBQ about the chicken. It was moist and tasty BUT it did not have that nice fresh off the pit taste or color. As a guy born at DCH hospital next door to here and a Roll Tide fan (UA down the street) I love Tuscaloosa. Though I don't live here now, there's one place that I must visit anytime I'm even remotely close. Full Moon. I love the food here. Great flavor, excellent pricing. The go to items include: The Big Baker baked potato with pork (imagine a giant loaded baked potato topped with pulled pork and bbq sauce, I'd slap my mother but she paid for all good), the large pulled pork sandwich, the 2 bone ribs sandwich, and the chicken tenders. Service here is always good though be prepared, they do get extremely busy. Be sure to buy a bottle of the sauce to take home and dont forget to get sweet tea. read more

The food was good, I had the Love Me Tender salad. The service was not so great and the cashier taking orders was rude and excluded me when taking the order from my family. When we tried to get her to add my order she said she couldn't do it at that point and I would have to wait. By the time I got to order my family already had their food. Full Moon moved into the old Papa's College Custard near the university and renovated the place. The barbecue is consistently great; I especially like the angus brisket. They have chicken, pork (pulled and ribs), beef, salad, beans, you name it. Also cake, pies, cookies, etc. The prices aren't bad, the service is alright, and barbecue is sweet. Ever since the BBQ chain expanded into the Ttown market I frequented the store in Woods Square often. I never had a bad meal and as an Alabama fan I loved the decor: Crimson Tide Bryant Mania. We had the pleasure to eat at Full Moon on a recent trip to Alabama. The store is brand new, as the old one (and a lot of Tuscaloosa) were destroyed by tornadoes. They have Alabama Football memorabilia on the walls which let's you know right away this is "Bama turf! You have to order at a counter and they bring your food out to you when it's ready. I had the ribs which were fall off the bone tender. My only complaint would be the sides that I had. The cole slaw was just plain out not good tasting and my fried green tomatoes were pure mush. I fear someone just dropped the tomatoes into the oil before it was at the correct temp. All in all, great service and awesome ribs! read more

Arrived in town for a training at UofA and had to grab a late night bite at 8:50 pm. Despite my offer at 10 minutes to closing to take out, they fixed me up and allowed me to sit and eat. Stopped here on recommendation from our hotel. If you are looking for a more commercialized family BBQ, this is a great place. Small with lots of atmosphere. Bama pics and jerseys line the wall. Menu is large and can be confusing to look at but we figured out what we wanted. My daughter got the 1/4 white chicken platter with ff's and Mac and cheese. Hubby got pork platter with ff and Mac and cheese. His portion of pork was huge! Mac and cheese was so so. I opted for just a baked potato. It was the size of the whole plate! If I could give a negative star I would. I got the big baked potato and brisket sandwich. The potato tasted like it was cooked a day ago and had been sitting in a steam well. Full Moon is a decent BBQ place in the West Alabama area. It has more of a franchise feel rather than a local feel and there are better local places in the area. Their sauce is average but the chow chow they use on their sandwiches is a good changeup from other local placea. *Do not use their drive through unless you are in absolutely no hurry. They are sometimes highly unorganized and you could easily spend 10-20 minutes waiting on your food.I have used the drive through 3 times, twice one car sat at the window for 10+ minutes while employees were chatting and doing nothing. read more

Stopped by on Friday for dinner while teaching at the University of Alabama. Service was friendly, and portions were sizable. I had the smoked turkey plate; it was so salty as to be almost inedible. If this is the BEST pork house in Alabama then Alabama is in trouble! Driving back from the Gulf Coast we were thrilled to see this place. We LOVE bbq ribs and all the fixin's. First off---for 5 of us to eat it was nearly 70.00. I was SHOCKED! But then I was anticipating a DELICIOUS meal....WRONG! My babybacks were tough and luke warm at best. The baked beans were good. The ketchup was GROSS. Fries were cool. My husbands brisket was the toughest brisket he had ever had. We were shocked. The best part of the meal was my DRINK. It had that sonic type ice and the coke was great! Seriously. I felt robbed. I would NEVER EVER stop there again. I have had BBQ from all over NC, SC, TN, FL....and NOTHING has ever been this bad. I just recently visited this establishment in Tuscaloosa, AL and will not return secondary to the night manager (white male mid 40's) or a staff member adding a tip to my receipt after I picked my food up. I don't feel I needed to tip your establishment for walking in the door and picking up my food. Yes, it may have only been a few dollars, but you clearly are a thief, if I didn't authorize you to give yourself a tip on my credit card. Even when you are the first one in line you will wait at least 10 minutes for your food. I have been craving a half bar-b-que chicken for quite a while now. A local volunteer fire department here in Marion usually has an annual fundraiser and sells them and they are delicious. So, here I go into this place with my two kids a few weeks ago. It's brand new after the tornado of April 27th of last year leveled the other one. I have never ate at a Full Moon Bar-B-Que before. I will get to the decor/atmosphere in a minute... but first, and foremost I MUST talk about the half chicken. Of all the reviews I have done on restaurants here on Yelp and complimented and maybe even glorified various foods.... this half chicken places #1 by far. I ordered it with corn on the cob and baked beans for sides. Holy crap, I dream about this meal at night now. Melt in my mouth, falling off the bone delectible and their warm sauce (which you can find over by the napkins and straws in crockpots of warm water) is INCREDIBLE! My son got one of their enormous stuffed baked potatos and now folks he is 15 and on a growth spurt and can eat one out of house and home if given the opportunity.... even HE was not able to finish that potato, but it may have had something to do with the very big BBQ sandwich he ordered along with it. The decor is so Roll Tide and sportslike with many televisions scattered around on the walls, and many pictures of my dear Bear Bryant. I went back here recently with the love of my life and ordered the same thing except I got fried green tomatos instead of baked beans. Not a mistake!!! They were great too!!! If you are driving through on I-20 and want to revisit the yummy, friendly Full Moon, avoid the temporary "after tornado" location. Impersonal and bare bones counter service. Can't use the restroom - even to wash your hands. Employees scream at each other "Naw I didn't make the ice tea. WHAT? You think I'd made tea like THAT?". Could this be the only southern food establishment that is unfriendly? They talk more to the game show on the big screen TV than to the customers. Funny, when the counter employee was shouting to the game show contestant on TV, NO DEAL, NO DEAL, that's what I thought about my exit off 1-20 to find the new location of Full Moon. read more

I don't write many reviews, especially not bad ones, but honestly this was the worst over priced BBQ I have ever had. The brisket was super dry and covered in gross BBQ sauce flavor was plain, the pork link tasted alright, but had to many hard chunks in it and tasted really fatty. The fried green tomatoes were good, the slaw was soggy (eww) and I didn't touch the bun. I asked for regular unsweetened iced tea and the dude gave me sweet tea, not a fan so I had someone else switch it for me. Then I asked what chow chow was because we don't have that in California (thank the food gods) the guy at the register gave me the worst answer possible and didn't even tell me what was in it.... It came with my meal, it was gross. The best thing I ate was the side salad I ordered... So I guess just stick with that if you go there.
