When my husband and I got engaged we knew we needed a special venue to go along with our special story. We were best friends since we were 10 years old, went to high school and college together and finally after 20 years I opened my eyes to see that the love of my life had always been right in front of me - he said he knew it all along! We knew from the start that we wanted a weekend getaway and for it to be rustic. We began our search with Full Moon Resort and when we pulled into the drive for a visit we knew we found the place! Meeting Henry, one of the owners, really put the icing on the cake because of how helpful, insightful, and accommodating he was. He gave us a full tour of the facility including the grounds, the reception tent, the barn, the performance space and even the lodging. There are so many amazing things about this venue but I will list my TOP FIVE: #1. Exclusive use of the property! This allows you to customize your wedding and have all of your guests stay on site! #2. Multiple locations! There are multiple locations to entertain your guests over the course of the weekend, even in the winter! My husband is a musician so we took full advantage of the performance space and had a Friday night concert with him, his band and the other talented musicians in our circle of friends and family. #3. The food! Crazy, right? Some people will choose wedding venues based on their caterers however that was not even on our minds when we booked Full Moon Resort. We wanted the remote location, the rustic feel, the ability to have all of our guests stay on site so it felt like our own home in the woods and boy were we surprised when the food was outstanding! Probably the best MacNCheese and collard greens we've ever had. Ever. #4. The service! From the moment we met Henry, as mentioned above, we knew we were in good hands. Once we were introduced to our very own event planner Leigh Ann we knew we were in even better hands! Leigh Ann worked with me on every detail of the weekend - from our Friday night dinner and the music that would be played to every step of the ceremony on Saturday and the details (snacks, marshmallows, candy, etc) for the after parties! She was amazing and everything went off with out a hitch. #5. Free Honeymoon! We took advantage of the winter prices at Full Moon Resort and got married in March. We also took advantage of the free Honeymoon in St. John which was the most amazing, most beautiful place we ever went. We highly recommend staying in this remote cottage, it's exactly like the reviews say it is. The most important thing about getting married at FMR is to set your guests' expectations from the start. This place is rustic and your guests should know it. I've read reviews about the lodging and yes, they are close quarters - especially the shared bathroom spaces but if your guests are there to celebrate you, as long as they have a clean place to sleep and bathe who really cares? And if you care that much then you probably shouldn't have your wedding here. The lodging that's "down the road" from the main area is NOT that far away. That's actually where my husband and I stayed and it was 30 degrees and snowing! We made it work and it was just fine. Food, service, ambiance! A classy rustic feel nature forward. They have a well honed flow to there wedding events. Small rooms but clean. Dinner was well presented and very good quality! The bar stock needs to expand- no whiskey only bourbon and no cordials like Bailey's or Frangelico. Event space was large and spacious with lovely wood ceilings however sound was difficult due to no absorption. There was an after hours building also. They have clear rules/boundaries around BYOB and check out times so take note. I would totally recommend for events! read more

We had a nice stay at the winter resort at Full Moon. We stayed in Birdsong cabin which was perfect for our family of 4 - kids are teens now and need more space and this was a very good value I felt for two bedrooms. The outdoor heated pool is cool but hours are very limited. They sold the kids on the experience at check in but all the slots were filled for the rest of the evening so that was disappointing. Wish that stayed open until at least 8 or so since there's not much more to do on the property during the winter. Hot tub before skiing was great tho. We really enjoyed that. Breakfast wasn't open midweek which was a bummer, especially over the holidays. We would have liked to try that. Otherwise, happy with our stay and will be back! read more

Full Moon Resort - Cottage #6 is lovely. - Hotels Near Me - Big Indian, New York

Beautiful campground, well kept facilities but rude and unprofessional staff. We stayed at one of the cabins for two nights. The food was delicious, camp ground was well kept with lush grass land, blossoming flowers and cute unexpected animals around. However, the cabin room was very small (probably 50 sqft or less for two persons) and the floor was tilted downward. As we communicated this issue to the front desk staff and how the uneven flooring exacerbated pre existing chronic pain, the staff member snapped at us, told us nothing can be done and asked us to 'work it out with our roommates'. This is simply unprofessional and un empathetic to folks with chronic health conditions for anyone, let alone a staff member in the hospitality industry. This person might be better off working a non-client facing job. Besides this particular individual, the experience was pleasant but overall we would not return. read more

Pros -- Really beautiful venue space with luscious green, sprawling hills in the background, various different buildings that differentiate for guests, a creek, etc. The photo opportunities were amazing, and even when it rained mid-ceremony, the staff were completely on it with umbrellas, towels, and levity. Their sense of calm was able to translate to still having a great reception for the wedding we attended. The food was also pretty good -- both at cocktail hour (especially the baked brie!) and during the proper sit down meal (the steak was surprisingly flavourful and cooked to medium/medium-rare perfectly). We even had a beautiful next morning of Yoga/stretching on the lawn (before another bout of rain). Cons -- The breakfast and after-party fare was a bit meager/mediocre. The only other gripe is that the rooms provided tiny quarters and there weren't enough bathrooms to go around, but at least the rooms had individual sinks/mirrors to accommodate. Overall, lovely venue, just some peripheral things that I am nitpicking about. read more

I came here for a wedding back in late April. Now although we cannot control mother nature, I must say it was freezing. The wedding was scheduled outside via a tent and there was not ONE outdoor heater. I have to give myself a HUGE shout out for grabbing my down coat. The place itself is nice. A lot of movement around the property with going in and out the different venues for cocktail hour and the reception but we all trucked through. Snowboots, gowns and all. The place/bar for the after-party looked a tad bit hillbillyish to me. Rooms/ houses are a little outdated but nonetheless it's your typical cozy upstate cabin. read more

Our wedding weekend was a snowy dream come true thanks to FMR. The venue, the grounds, and the accommodations are so cozy, well maintained, and beautiful. It felt like home. And somehow in the middle of no where in the Catskills the chef was able to make gourmet delicious meals. From the BBQ, to the breakfasts, lunches and cocktail hour/reception meals, our guests were raving about the quality and taste of each meal. Lastly, the staff was so generous and made myself and my husband feel so comfortable and ensured we had an amazing time from start to finish. Anything we asked for was there at the drop of a hat. Morgan, Claire, Katlyn, Kayla, Tia, Nicole, and the whole team made us feel less like clients and more like we were part of the full moon family. read more

We stayed in the Mountain View Cabin 3. The views did not disappoint and are actually better than advertised on the Airbnb listing. The cabin and surrounding grounds were clean. The check in was easy and contactless. We really enjoyed our stay here. It is a little out of the way from most restaurants and activities and the cabin does not have a kitchen. So make sure you keep some gas in your car and don't mind a 30-40 min drive to most things. Overall a really great place. read more

So I stayed in Morningstar which was fantastic. Good room size, had a desk chair, twin beds, futon couch. So it had air conditioning with mini-split so heating as well. Also a tiny fridge that could chill 2 water bottles. Bathroom had hairdryer, soap bars, shampoo, liquid hand soap. WiFi worked well. No in room safe or cell reception, tv, or phone. It was quiet and beds were comfortable. There is a significant staircase to go up to cross road to main area, but it was doable. There is also separate parking, so you could drive down hill if you needed. There is no ac in some of the other areas, so a bit hot in July. Gorgeous setting and grounds. read more

We had our wedding at Full Moon Resort on 9/8/24. A few weeks later I am still feeling incredibly lucky that I had the most perfect wedding day imaginable. Everything went seamlessly and their team has everything down to a science, without making the day feel too commercial or like you're just another number. Tia, Kayla, Morgan, & the entire staff that day were incredible. The food was incredible and so many of our guests are still mentioning how much they enjoyed it. Multiple guests mentioned how great our bartenders were. The accommodations onsite are so lovely and takes stress off your plate not having to find transportation or a shuttle. I decided on a Sunday wedding which I was initially nervous about, but so many of our friends and family have told us it was the best wedding they've ever been to and I have zero regrets about it now! I think it's rare for a bride to feel everything went right on their wedding day & I feel so lucky that I do after all that was put into planning. Full Moon Resort was the first venue we checked out and our wedding proved to us that sometimes things really are that easy! If you can't read this long review, to sum it up: just book this place. If you need reasons, here: We got married here this past Monday and I could not wait to leave this place a RAVING REVIEW. Because if you want a spectacular wedding weekend that you can ACTUALLY ENJOY AS BRIDE OR GROOM, this is the PLACE! The best food is served here, and you get to have it more than just once. The grounds are magical. The staff is attentive. A lot of the newly renovated bathrooms have heat-radiated floors (!!). You get to plan a custom-tailored event here and get to be whisked around to enjoy it. The staff makes sure you are having a good time. We booked our wedding a year out, and got help from our coordinator, Morgan, immediately & every step of the way. She made sure we were aware of every decision we would have to make well in advance, so we had no last-minute scrambles. Throughout the whole process, she was there to help and quick to reply to any and every question we had. She was so organized and professional, and we really got the sense she loves her job. A tricky part of this venue is the couple gets to create a room chart. Something we knew would be a challenge, but our coordinator for this, Tia, made it EASY. She was also there for any questions we had or last-minute trouble shooting. She was also fast to help our guests out and incredibly understanding. Creating the chart was a key part of the experience, we were able to place old friends together and family near each other. It was totally worth the undertaking and made our weekend special. On our first day we were introduced to another coordinator, Alexis, who was (surprise surpise) ALSO AMAZING. She was so damn cool and helpful. She kept her eyes on the weather (since we had a fire & s'mores going outside) and let us know everything that was going on without distracting from our night. Through the whole weekend, she always seemed to know what we wanted! Anytime we had a question, the staff made sure to have a thorough answer. I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy (yes, butter too) in the middle of the process and was worried I'd go hungry/they wouldn't understand. I was FULL AND FED the whole weekend, the food I had available to me was amazing, and the staff was able to tell me exactly what went into everything. I was able to confidently sit down at our sweetheart table and chow down with out a paranoid "are we sure this doesn't have dairy in it?" My vegan friends didn't have to turn to their emergency trail-mix. Trust me, everyone will have a great time. The people that work here clearly love & have pride in what they do. This review could go on forever, I just want to add a few more shot outs. Great Bar Manager, Josh Brown, really cool guy who knew what he was doing. Consuela, head of catering, ridiculous sweet & made sure we were fed. I felt like I'd get in trouble if I didn't eat (in a good way lol). Devin & Jake, a few of our awesome bartenders. Michael, who humbly introduceds us, who did sound and set a whole lot up. John Hanley, who brought us to the ceremony and made sure we knew we didn't have to rush home. There was an overnight coordinator, Kaitlin. She made sure we knew who to reach in case of emergency (because you are in the middle of nowhere). The list could go on and on because the staff was really that great but I was a bit inebriated the entire time so names get blurry!! Since we had so much support with the planning, we were able to communicate what goes where upon arrival and then enjoy the weekend we created with our friends. I had the pleasure of attending a wedding at the full moon resort this past weekend and can honestly say it was the most incredible wedding I've ever been to. The backdrop of the wedding was insanely beautiful, there were so many different areas within the resort to enjoy, and the service was fantastic. In addition, the lodging options were great (and really fun to stay with multiple friends!) with beautiful bathrooms. I didn't love that there was no cell service there initially, but wifi access is strong and highly accessible across the property so it was not an issue throughout my stay. I also loved being able to stay so close to a running brook - it was such a peaceful way to start the day! read more

I attended my cousin's wedding that was here recently. There are pros and cons to this place. This is a review as a wedding guest and not as the wedding couple. My advice: - If the wedding event is 3 days/2 nights and you are staying for the entire event and you can afford a nicer room, then get the nicer room. The lower tier rooms that had private bathrooms were very small and were inconsistent in quality. My aunt and her adult son requested twin beds and there was barely room to move around. - When you get your room assignment, look at the resort's Airbnb listing so you can see photos of your room and can adjust your expectations. I don't know if you can switch rooms before confirming your booking; that might be something to ask the wedding couple. - Download offline maps before you leave for the resort and before you check out from your stay. There is no cell service in the area. On your way there, you will lose cell service when you're within 20-30 minutes of the resort. The resort does have wifi, but that only helps you when you're on the resort grounds. Don't risk being without a map if you're not familiar with the area. Pros: - Beautiful resort grounds. - The wedding was a 3 day/2 night event and food was included in the stay. There was definitely enough food at the buffets and enough time to be at leisure with your meal. - If you have time for sightseeing, the world's largest kaleidoscope is a 20 minute drive away. Cons: I feel there are a range of issues from small to large. A few of the staff seem burned out and are at the point where their responses aren't professional. - I reserved a tier 4 cottage, which is the most expensive tier. The toilet had a bunch of toilet paper in the toilet bowl. Was this leftover from cleaning? Was this from the previous guest using the toilet? I have no idea. It was surprising because it's not like I checked in early and there was a rush to have my room ready. - For my mom's bathroom in her room, the toilet had a seat but no lid. In my opinion, that could be unsanitary when you flush the toilet after using it. It's also very strange considering the toilets in the banquet hall and other public facilities had toilets with lids for their toilet seats. - Other guests also had problems with amenities. I saw one guest ask the front desk for more shampoo. The staff person at the desk radioed someone, who gave a really weird response. The other staff replied that there's shampoo in the shower. The front desk had to explain over the radio that the guest is asking for shampoo because the bottle is empty. I don't even know why that had to be explained. - One of my other cousins (who was a guest) specifically asked the facility if a hair dryer and iron would be available in the room. She was told yes, but there was none in her room. - The grounds are definitely not friendly for folks with mobility or balance issues. The paths are gravel and some paths have deep grooves that you can trip in. Some paths have steep inclines. At night, some of the motion sensor lights on the way to cabins and lodges weren't working so you had to be careful where you walked. - The wedding ceremony was at the lower grove but the resort staff didn't clearly communicate that a shuttle was available to drive people there. There were guests wearing high heels and a lot of people over the age of 70. I guess there's this idea that it's no big deal because it's only a 5 minute walk, but there are no paved paths and you have to walk on gravel and grass. - During the wedding dinner, I saw one staff person carrying around her reading very weirdly. She had stuffed it under her bra strap, but it was slipping further down the front of her bra/shirt. I think she must have been manager level because she wasn't it a uniform. It was kinda gross because you shouldn't be using your bra for storage...and I don't want to be seeing that before a meal. read more

Came to Full Moon and stayed at the Mountain Sky cottage #8. The one all the way on the end. Coming from the city these cabin like cottages were awesome to stay in. The view from the big windows were a pleasant change of view. A green open Mountain View. The cottages are nicely spaced so they feel private. Fellas, as soon as the wife walks in the will say "omg how cute is this". Big windows. Nice open space. The bathroom and showers are off the hook. Double showers so you and a partner can be in there together. We came here for a mini honeymoon since the boss says she's afraid to fly to Italy (covid). Fairly priced. Def recommend for a weekend getaway. Even some golf in the area (which we are going to tomorrow morning, she doesn't know yet). Enjoy. read more

I'm a city girl, born and raised in New York. So when my friend Dan invited me to his friends' wedding in the Catskills, I naturally assumed we would be staying in a conventional hotel, and that the ceremony would take place in a church, with air conditioning. Nope - Dan forwarded me the confirmation email he received from the resort and wait, what? No television? No cell phone service? Whoops. Good thing I didn't bring my laptop (to watch porn, obviously). After a three hour long drive up to the Catskills, we arrived, in the pitch darkness, at what looked like a camp. (As it turned out, guests can indeed camp on the premises.) We checked into our room, which was located in a rickety house a few hundred yards away from the main house, and I was aghast to see that there was one bathroom for every five rooms. (I have bathroom anxiety.) I screamed when a bug flew by my face. In the pitch dark, we wandered out to the nearby barn house where there was an open bar. I rued that I had chosen to wear three inch heels and wondered if the gravel would ding my shoes. Employees poured us stiff drinks in plastic cups and offered to drive us to the campfire in a golf cart. OK, a campfire? What? Hey, I like golf carts though. But the campfire was fun, and people were friendly. I met the bride and groom to be, and boy, were they attractive and lovely people. We all chatted, and then Dan and I retreated to our room. I'd been initially nervous about the lack of air conditioning as it was a humid evening in New York City but that's the thing about the Catskills: there's always a mountain breeze. We slept with the windows open, and in the morning, I was actually cold. Breakfast was provided at the cafe in the main house and I was expecting some junk like bagels and eggs, which is standard continental crap. But no: there were vegan options like tofu scramble. Fresh produce limned the buffet table. There was standard breakfast stuff, like eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, pastries, granola, but man, that tofu scramble was delicious. I ate a heaping plate of it and went back for seconds. Afterward, we were encouraged to wander the grounds. There was a swimming pool and a creek, so Dan and I walked over to the creek and dunked our feet in the water. I fell asleep beneath the trees and woke up just in time for lunch. Back at the cafe, there was another fantastic spread of eats, including pitas stuffed with a Thai marinated tofu. I ate three of them. I'm not even vegan. There were beautiful salads featuring locally grown organic produce. I nudged Dan and said, "This food is surprisingly delicious" and he could only nod, because his mouth was full. The ceremony was not held in a church, but in a field that required a short walk from the main house, and the reception was set up in a tent nearby. Booze was copious and flowing. Everyone cheered. People kissed, and after the dinner, people danced awkwardly like drunk chickens, and I made fun of them. There was karaoke in another lodge nearby, but as we were drunk and tired, we went to our room and slept. In the morning, that gorgeous breakfast was repeated. I lumped a greedy portion of the tofu scramble onto a plate and finished it despite not being hungry. It was just so delicious! Hungover guests wandered in, barefoot and desperately gulping at coffee. Staff was cheerful. Rumors of skinny dipping in the pool, and a confrontation with a bear abounded. Perhaps we should have stayed up later. God knows I love to run around naked in front of strangers and stare down wild beasts. I was actually sad to leave, especially once we arrived back in Brooklyn, stepped out of the air conditioned chamber of our rental car and were enveloped in a brutal, humid cask. I longed to be back by that creek napping, or even just sitting under an apple tree in the grass, marveling at the simple joy of life without a working mobile phone and wireless internet. I didn't even have any problems with the shared bathrooms and was able to poop in peace. Sure, I turned on my cell phone the second we hit the highway so that I could check my messages, but that brief stop we made at a local produce stand to buy tomatoes and fruit made being incommunicado well worth it. Ceremony was beautiful, food was great, and it had a wonderful train along the Esopus. That is the extent of my praise. I understand wanting to be out of the was of the crazy technological world and not having cell reception, but when you advertise WiFi as an amenity make sure it works. In total we spent about $420 for a two night stay...the room was incredibly small, to the point where I, a 5'0 small lady couldn't turn around without hitting something. They claimed to Have a king sized bed when it was just two twins pushed together. We also had the shared bathrooms, which I could have lived with if we had a bigger room. Other people who had paid the same price got larger, nicer rooms. I truly wanted to like this place, but for me the negative weighed out the positive. So have your wedding here as long as you're not sleeping here... read more

I wish I could give it both 1 star and 5 stars. The 5 stars would be for the lovely wedding location and lush, green everywhere. The breakfast was pretty good and the staff were friendly and helpful. So far so good. But... We were given a room in what is called the "New Moon", which is essentially a house across the road and really not within walking distance. They must have picked it up really cheap when the previous owner lost their shirt or something. The place is a friggin' embarrassment and a total dive. It makes Motel 6 look like the Hilton. It is total crap and they charge you waaaay too much for it. We had a room, with no shower or toilet. It's just a house, right? So there are four rooms upstairs which share the one toilet and shower. For that we paid about $150/night. But it gets worse. Much worse... The room was supposed to have a king sized bed. What you get is two twin beds crammed together. And even then, the mattresses aren't the same height, so there's this cliff in the middle. The furniture is all Salvation Army grade. There are dings in the walls and things are generally less clean than you would expect. This is essentially a run-down 1970's house that they got for cheap and are trying to make as much money off of it as they can. I'm sure most people only go there once, so why should they worry about return business? The toilet leaks so there is always water on the floor. The dishwasher also leaks, so there's a puddle on the kitchen floor after someone runs a load. I talked to one guy who had a room downstairs that had its own toilet and shower. For that, he paid $260/night. And he had the two twin beds crammed together thing. The outside doors look very weathered and do not open or shut properly. What a rip! If you happen to be going to a wedding or other party at Full Moon, find somewhere else to stay. They do a great wedding, but really rip you off for the accommodations. Whoever owns this place should be embarrassed. I'm sure the employees are. read more

Yesterday I received a response to my previous review from Kelly who is planning her wedding here. She informed me that the bride and groom are strongly instructed to tell all guests to have no direct contact with the Full Moon resort. While I was told that the bride and groom handle the room assignments, I was never told that there should be no direct contact with the resort management. Here are my final comments on the Full Moon Resort's no-contact policy as pointed out by Kelly: 1. I hope that all wedding couples that book here have wonderfully memorable weddings. I also think their guests should know what to expect. 2. If the policy is so strictly followed, why didn't the Full Moon answering service simply explain it to me the first time I called. Instead, they repeatedly told me that they'd take a message because no one was available. Likewise, whoever reads their emails could've easily sent me a No-Reply email about the no-contact policy. 3. What's the purpose of having such an unwelcoming policy towards paying guests? 4. Most destination wedding resorts are willingly hospitable because they take pride in the experience they offer and hope it will lead to new future business. 5. Since most wedding guests don't want to bother the bride and groom with accommodation details, this no-contact policy conveniently enables Full Moon to discourage any guest requests or questions. 6. If I were hosting a destination wedding where guests pay for travel and rooms, I'd want them to be able to contact the resort about their stay. FINALLY, it turns out that the Full Moon Resort doesn't stick to its no-contact-with-guests policy all the time. They certainly had no problem emailing me directly when asking me to pay for the room! read more

When I started to look for a wedding venue, I came across some beautiful photos that were taken at Full Moon Resort Weddings. I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for, but seeing these pictures, I knew I wanted- autumn, outdoors, a creek running through the land, a barn, a big tree with lights weaving around branches, an after party bonfire, even an after party barn, so the party doesn't have to end! This was all the good stuff I could see in the pictures. So, I put some images together and started selling my fiancee on the idea. We took a trip (driving up from Brooklyn, it was 3.5-4 hrs to Big Indian, NY) We met with the owner, Michael, who showed us around and explained how things worked there.. When we had a look at the guests accommodations, we found that the rooms were small, many of our guests would have to share bathrooms with neighboring rooms... all things considered, the lodgings were a bit dilapidated. The after party barn smelt of mildew and was cold. The barn bathroom didn't work- toilet didn't flush... Still, we eventually ended up putting a down payment, to hold our date (there was only one day left in October & I really was set on timing our wedding with the turning of the leaves) After a lot of hesitation & traveling back up to see the place again.. I realized that the way it actually looked did not reflect the photos saved in a folder on my desktop. I kept looking at these pictures, found online, for inspiration, but in reality, the creek was all muddy. There were mud patches all over the grounds, covered up with mulch... the tent windows were smudgy & dirty. The last day I was there There was a wedding reception being set up. A friend of the bride & groom was walking around the tent setting up the table #'s, etc. We spoke for a bit and he explained to me that the tent wasn't heating up at all, so the bride & groom were considering holding the dinner indoors somewhere, but they were still figuring out an alternate location.. That was pretty much the tipping point that resulted in us seriously looking around for another venue. If you are considering planning a wedding here- be sure to go in person, look around... see how you like it. We came here for a wedding and were assured that while the venue had no cell service, our bare-bones cabin (1/8 mile down the road from where the wedding was taking place) would have a landline. Instead, it turned out the cabin had only a party line--linking our cabin with the service in another cabin. And when it came time to leave our babysitter with our children and go to the evening part of the wedding, we discovered that the phone was dead. Either the people in the other cabin had left the phone off the hook or there was something wrong with the phone, but either way, the staff at the resort seemed entirely unconcerned with fixing the problem. Since we couldn't responsibly leave our babysitter with our kids in a cabin with no transportation, no cell service, and no landline--where we couldn't reach her and she couldn't reach us in an emergency--we had to skip the later part of the wedding. The area may be pretty, but I seriously dislike this resort for their complete disinterest in making sure we had a very basic service in place, thus wrecking our ability to enjoy the otherwise lovely event we were attending. read more

As most of you know by now I am a tech junkie but this place literally "turned me off" and it was amazing. No cell reception anywhere around here and even cable only had about 18 channels. Beautiful is a huge understatement. This is nature in all of its beauty and if you like driving on some fun filled back country windy roads, this is it! The wedding we went here for was probably the most fun wedding I have ever been to and we even had about a 7 minute walk through a huge field to get to the ceremony. To top it off a huge Blue Heron took off in the middle of the wedding. I hope to go back here in the middle of winter to see the snow cover everything! read more

C. and I may not have stayed here this weekend, but we spent quite a bit of time on site because it was the location of our friend's wedding. The Full Moon is many things. It's an event venue -- they host a lot of weddings and other celebrations. It's a restaurant -- there's a full kitchen downstairs, and the food (We had lunch, dinner, and coffee.) is excellent and vegetarian friendly. And it's a performance venue -- there's a performance hall across the street, and for new year's, I believe they hosted Strangefolk. (In fact, one of the owner's, Michael Densmore, may be related to the founding drummer of the Doors, which could help explain the music connection; they have an active music schedule.) While the little cabin occupied by the bride and groom, her brother, and others appeared to be spacious and comfortable, the room we saw in the main building was overly small and spare -- the kind of place you'd stay if you planned to spend hardly any time in your room at all (just to sleep). Bathrooms in the main building appear to be shared. The wedding itself was held in the barn, which can be heated in the winter with a blower, and which features a sizable balcony. The grounds are quite large, and there's plenty to see; we went on a geology walk along Esopus Creek. An intriguing property -- and well worth checking out if you'd like to get married in the Catskills. It's a wonderful location and has a lot to offer. Attended a wedding here this past weekend and we were VERY impressed. While the inn itself is a bit "lived-in" it still retains a warm and inviting vibe. The newish building on the grounds where the reception took place was modern and terrific...purpose-built for large parties and it was excellent. The food was very good as well. But the stars of the show were the staff. I was surprised how upbeat, efficient and capable they were. From the folks running the show to the waiters, bartenders, and even the friendly housekeeping staff. Everyone had a great attitude and it showed. read more

The Full Moon Resort was everything we could have hoped for and more for our April wedding! From the very beginning the staff was incredible. When we visited the venue we didn't plan accordingly and wound up stranded at the local post office. Paul, one of the staff, came and picked us up without hesitation. The tour that followed was incredible and we knew from that moment on this was our place. The resort has you come up a few months prior to the wedding to try out your menu selections and confirm what you want. This should kind of tell you that the food is on point. The chef is great. With food we were concerned about catering to people with dietary issues because some of our guests could not have gluten, dairy, meat, etc. They have really excellent options for every kind of food allergy/intolerance and the options are actually good. They also leave an extra meal in your room in case you are too busy talking to people during your reception. This is a godsend. We had our reception in the barn which was fantastic. The layout really encourages circulation among the guests which is exactly what we wanted. The amenities were great as well. We did an after party in the roadhouse with a bonfire outside. It was everything we wanted. The rooms are really lovely. We stayed in Dancing Bear Cottage which was both beautiful and comfortable. My father kept commenting that his room looked like he had stepped into a copy of architectural digest. Every single member of the team wound up going above and beyond what we expected and they were more than happy to do so. All of our guests told us how amazing the venue was and how welcoming and conscientious the staff was. Melanie was our planner and she made sure everything was exactly as it should be on the day of. We knew everything would be taken care of and were actually relaxed for our entire wedding! If you are looking for a venue away from a city with scenic views this is definitely the place. I am going to bully every engaged couple I know to get married there because I want to go back. read more

I was out here for a three day music festival. Basically we had the place shut down for about 50 participants. Full Moon has plenty of space with the Lodge, Dorm, and motel across the road. Fantastic Roadhouse feel to the music venue which literally hangs to the side of the road. The big fireplace at the back of the venue is great for gathering and the bar through a door allows for conversations under the music being played on stage. The food was great with fresh vegetables and creative recipes for my vegan taste buds. This is one of those places that your torn to recommend because it's a hideaway. Just wish they had a studio and I would be all over recording there. read more

If you are even slightly on a limb about a venue, stop right now. Full Moon Resort is the only place I would ever recommend. Not only are the grounds beautiful, with ponds, luxury cabins, and absolutely gorgeous event spaces for ceremonies and receptions, but the people who work there make your wedding more than you could ever hope for. From the owners, Paul and Michael, to the chef Adam West and his team, to the grounds crew, front desk staff, catering ladies...nothing but smiles, laughs, and helpful past their pay I am sure! But, all in all, my wedding would never have happened without our Coordinator, Melanie. Our story was my father was diagnosed with terminal cancer and I moved the wedding up to two months from out engagement in hopes he could be there to walk me down the aisle. In two months, Melanie helped me plan the wedding of my dreams. On the day of, she was there with me ever moment, asking me questions and making sure everything was just as I wanted it. When I didn't have an answer, she gave me several options and often I just asked her to do what she thought was best. Then, because everyone was busy with my dad, she actually helped me get dressed. She even put on my pearls. At the ceremony, she made sure my dad got to go down the aisle with me no matter what. At the reception, she had a special plate of food made for him because he asked for it and getting him to eat is hard. Most amazingly, at one point I looked over and she was feeding my dad...she didn't have to do that, but she did it so I could have the best wedding possible. In my eyes, Melanie is now a part of our family and I will forever sing her praises, and praises for Full Moon. My friends and family said it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to, all planned in just two months. Not to jump backwards, but the FOOD....sweet Lord I never ate so much! And it was AMAZING! Best food I had ever eaten. Period. The chef Adam worked right along with us for food choices and even helped my vision of an afternoon tea happen with delicious scones and finger sandwiches. He helped me design the perfect cake and it was incredible. If you and your hunny are foodies like us, there is no other venue to match the food at FM. I wouldn't have done my wedding any other way, even if I had the chance. It was truly one of the best weekends of my life and I owe it to Full Moon! read more

I stayed here for a wedding one weekend and had a great experience. Only guests of the wedding stayed at the resort and there was plenty to do including a pool table, and a perfect place to go hiking. The rooms were small but we never spent much time in them anyway. It is also very far from the town (about a 30 minute drive). read more

Both rooms were small, but had private bathrooms and worked out great for us since we really didn't spend much time in the room any way. Full Moon Resort staff provided a fun-filled magical wedding weekend for my daughter and son-in-laws recent September wedding celebration! A big thank you to wedding planner Leigh Ann who was accommodating and extremely patient and helpful throughout the journey leading up to the big weekend event! Thank you to the entire staff that needs to be acknowledged for the friendly, professional demeanor they displayed all weekend long. A shout out to Consuela who made sure everything was perfect and always checked in with me throughout the weekend. She was fabulous. The food at Friday night barbecue was delicious and the wedding dinner was fabulous! Guests are still raving that it was the best food that they ever had at a wedding. Sunday brunch and the breakfast and lunches were all very delicious, fresh and unique. Kudos to the chef!! The maintenance staff was extremely helpful hanging lights in the barn and hanging dream catchers from the tree at the entrance to the tent as well as tweaking anything that needed to be tweaked. Thank you to the front desk staff who was very friendly to our guests and to the staff that took care of our rooms. The grounds were beautiful, the flowers in full bloom and the accommodations were perfect for the bohemian, rustic feel of the wedding. I can go in and on with my praises on how wonderful FullMoon is....It was a wonderful weekend that we will never forget. read more

My fiancé (now husband) and I both live in Brooklyn, but we met in Maine. When looking at wedding venues, we wanted to find a spot in the NYC area that would reflect the feel of where we first met & fell in love. After a lot of online research, we selected a few places to visit, and Full Moon was love at first sight. Our primary goal for our wedding was to find a place that would allow all our guests to really spend time together - for old friends to see one another again, and for new friendships to form. Our ideal was a kind of "upscale summer camp" setting - Full Moon provides exactly that, and does it incredibly well. We have heard time and again from our guests that it was the best wedding they've ever been to - what more could we have hoped for? Melanie was our event coordinator, and she consistently went above and beyond with her availability in planning, answering countless questions and working inexhaustibly to ensure that she & the Full Moon staff would create the weekend we envisioned. I couldn't believe the dedication that she and the entire staff showed to our event - their hours were long, their work never stopped, and they were unfailingly kind, hospitable, and thoughtful. Everything they did went so far towards making our wedding weekend the success that it was, and we could not have been happier with the results! They accommodated several special activities/events on our behalf, including a Saturday morning yoga session, a nature walk, and lawn games. It was even better than the wedding we envisioned/hoped for, and that is such a precious gift. The food was consistently fabulous, and Tim and I (thanks to Melanie) actually got to *eat* our wedding dinners, which is almost unheard of! ; ) The chef accommodated us beautifully when it came to desserts - rather than wedding cake, the brave & talented Adam willingly recreated 2 family pie recipes, which guests were absolutely ecstatic about. Since we live in Brooklyn, planning was also a bit of a challenge in terms of finding vendors, etc, in the area, but Full Moon also did a great job of offering solid recommendations. We had amazing service from all our Full-Moon-approved vendors, including Dennis Nutley of Green Cottage (florist), Alex Mazur (DJ), and Karen Neblung (hair). There are definitely a few challenges about attending a Full Moon wedding - other reviewers have touched on a few of these, and I would say the primary are: 1) the distance of the location from nearby airports, 2) parents needing to travel w/ crib, and 3) lack of cell service. We had a few guests who are used to a certain level of "resort" that I was concerned about, in terms of comfort, but they all had a wonderful time. If you plan an event at Full Moon, I think one of the keys is properly preparing your guests for what they will experience - this is not a luxury resort, but a very well-kept, well-run, clean, welcoming woodland retreat, with family-style cabins. Full Moon does a great job of giving you written language that you can send out with invitations and post to websites, etc, to articulate the kinds of experiences your guests can expect there, and what they need in order to be prepared. The cost for guests attending a Full Moon Fri/Sat wedding is not insignificant, and that was our primary fear/worry going in to the weekend. However, the amount that you get for your money at Full Moon is an *astonishingly* good deal, particularly in comparison with anywhere closer to or in NYC. (It was actually the most cost-effective venue we found!) On the whole, our guests were very happy to pay their part for this weekend getaway. Overall, I really can't recommend this venue enough, for those who are looking to make new memories with dear family and friends. Full Moon provides the space, meals, and details for you to have an intimate event that will undoubtedly be cherished for years to come. One of the best "recommendations" I can give is that my mother, who was initially very skeptical about our wedding venue choice, and not usually the "rustic cabin" type, has suggested that we make a habit of annual reunion trips back to Full Moon! We could not have been happier, and we hope that word will spread about this Catskill gem. read more

Went with a few friends to the Full Moon Resort. Was a great experience. It is a simple but beautiful place. There was no phone service but the cabins had a land line and they didn't charge for local long distance calls and free wifi, which is great. The staff was very attentive. My room was old fashioned and didn't really have any perks, but this is not a place to spend time in your room. The food was great, a wide variety each meal. My daughter and her new husband got married here in late April. We had snow showers for the rehearsal and there was ice on the fountain on the morning of the big day, but the sun was out all day. We flew kites, played touch football, and had a magical if somewhat chilly afternoon ceremony in the beautiful "Lower Grove". The party in the lovely tent was warm, extremely well staffed, and a huge success. This is a completely charming venue. It is not high luxury, and if you're looking for immaculate, freshly painted accommodations with all new fixtures and paved walkways everywhere, this is probably not your place. If instead you want a beautiful mountain valley, clean and comfortable rooms, good hearty meals and extremely gracious and capable staff, then you will be happy here.
