I have only been here a hand full of times but I'm going to keep coming back! The pedicures last a super long time and there is rarely a wait. I had the gel polish done the last couple times and I'm hooked! The polish comes in a bunch of colors and lasts 3-4 weeks without chipping. This place is easy to get to and has a ton of parking. I guess my only complaint is that the shop is upstairs...but since I work just downstairs....I'm pretty sure it's just that I'm lazy :) read more

I have gone here maybe a dozen times, twice a month for a fill on my gel manicure, occasional pedicure! I stopped getting the pedicures because the lady who painted my toes did worse than I could do myself. I am not one for confrontation but I asked her to clean a few things up anyway and they still looked amateur! Avoiding the pedicures I was in love with my nail lady!! I am picky and she did th just the way I love them! ( I believe she is the Main nail lady, the owner). I do not make appointments, which is why I go to walk in nail salons like this, I never know my schedule! I usually get lucky, and with no More than a ten minute wait I get in to my girl! Sadly two weeks ago she was too busy for me and I was too busy to come back I agreed to go to the other lady! I very very discreetly asked my lady if she could do them just the way I wanted them, she assure me she could! DO NOT LIE TO GET BUSINESS!!!!! You lose loyal customers!!!! No, I can't understand what u r saying in Chinese, but I can tell that u are asking my lady what the next step is! This lady did not even know how to do them! Ann gave me a pedi with gel and a design. I'm very particular and she nailed (pun intended) exactly what I wanted. She did an excellent job. She let me be which I was really thankful for. I like to get a pedi after a long stressful week. The massage chair actually felt amazing. In Some nail salons the chairs are BRUTAL. But, this was pleasant. She made small talk so it wasn't too awkward. Overall, the shop was clean. There's ample parking. Ann was great. I will be returning. read more

Really, really like it here! I've been coming here for over 2 years-that says alot! My first visit way back when was with a lady that was ok and did a good job but my former roommate said I should ask for Chrissy. So on my 2nd visit, I made sure to see Chrissy and have continued seeing her ever since. She's such a pleasure! And wow, does she do great work! It's reasonable (my feet take a lot of time and work thanks to always being on them nonstop) and she truly pays attention to detail and works the bottoms of my feet like no other! Plus she knows I like to foo-foo my nails up every now and then and has me walking away with gems on my toes if I want. Makes me feel like a princess! It's a small place, nothing special, located near 24 Hour Fitness and Vons but don't let that stop you from seeing Chrissy and having your feet loved on! Should be called "Fun-Gus" Nail! I recently moved to the Point Loma area for my husband's job transfer. I joined a gym and was now in search of a new nail salon that was conveniently located. After a work out I came across Fun Nail and was happy to see a place so close to my house and gym. I walked in late afternoon on a Saturday and there were a couple of other clients seated with the 3 manicurists. I needed full set of nails and was told to -"pick color". When looking at the color options they ALL looked old, dry, and outdated. I honestly couldn't find one new bottle. I picked the best of the worst and sat down and waited forever. She told me "five minutes" but now it's been over 20! Why lie just be honest? I could've gone somewhere else or at least decided that option for myself if I had known it wasn't really five minutes. Sigh. I am FINALLY seated in the front & she grabs a tool-(drill)- from another lady & starts pulling/ drilling abruptly. It hurting/burning SO bad-(I swear I even saw smoke at one point), that my cuticle started to bleed! I told her ouch a few times and she seemed to be getting annoyed with me and started talking in a language I couldn't understand to the other ladies. At this point she stated-yes stated-they were approaching closing which said 7:00 & it was only around 6ish? I truly felt like she was rushing me which really upset me condsidering I probably would've gone elsewhere if I had known how long the wait was. Anyhow I never saw her clean the tool & drill when taking it & didn't think too much of it at the time but the more things went downhill the more I started to worry about everything. At this point everyone had left but me and the 3 manicurists started taking so loud, laughing, one was sweeping all around my feet-don't get me wrong as I appreciate cleaning but with all the commotion and yelling/laughing combined along with the pain I was so stressed out at this point I wanted to run out the door!! So after stopping the bleeding and burning she finished my nails. Many times when she was talking to her coworkers she wasn't even looking at my hands?! Who does that? When she finished I looked down and was horrified. They looked like fat outdated bumpy bricks on each finger! Nothing like I used to get back in Chicago as maybe this is the style in California? I had a special birthday party to go to that night and was wondering how I was going to hide them-I was actually embarrassed at my 80's looking nails but had no time to go elsewhere. At the end she said -"You pay cash?" I said no-I have a card. She said "$1.00 fee-you don't have cash?" Again I said NO I only have a card-she sighed, spoke again to her co-workers in the language I could not understand-and grabbed my card and said -"you leave tip on card?" REALLY? After burning & bleeding you are ASKING for a tip-and this is the same lady who actually did the damage. Even IF I wanted to still give one-(which I really didn't)- how rude to ask for it. I signed my check & got the heck out of there with my ugly brick nails in tow. I tried to file them shorter to be less noticeable for my party. The next day I noticed my thumb nail lifting, then a couple days passed & more were lifting! One had a "space" in the back where moisture could get in. I wanted to pull them all off but did not want to damage my real nails so I waited about a week or so before making the first attempt. When I finally got them off I was HORRIFIED again to see a black fungus on my thumb and the nail that had the space. This has NEVER happened to me before. I wasn't sure if it was the re-use & no cleaning of the tools or the spaces or lifting but either way I was so upset. After going to the pharmacy for fungus-(ewww)-ointment and after it healed I found another nail place with 5 star yelp review in the same area & went to them explaining my nightmare "FunGus Nail" situation & they said; "Yes we have heard many bad things about that place. A lot of clients come here after & tell us their about bad experiences at Fun Nail". I walked out of there with beautiful classy & modern nails-with no bleeding or burning at all & felt appreciated. I gave a huge tip and was happy to have now found a place that is kind & takes care of their customers. I never felt like I was being "talked about" and I felt my business was valued. Bottom line-DO NOT GO TO FUN NAIL & waste your hard earned money unless your wish is to bleed, be tortured by a hot dirty drill, rushed, and talked about all in an outdated room with old dried up nail polishes. Or unless your wish is to get black fungus from holes, gaps, and lifting days after. I wished that I had read previous YELP reviews before I stepped foot in that place as many point out similar situations to mine. Been here 4-5 times for pedicures and had always been very satisfied with the professionalism and quality of service. This time, the lady who was performing my pedicure was clearly ill as she was coughing the entire time. She did not wear a mask. She never coughed back over her shoulder or into her elbow so as not to expel germs; she coughed right onto my feet and I could feel cough stuff spewing onto my ankles. This occurred multiple times during my pedicure Brought my own nail polish; she coughed on the bottle before handing back to me. After the pedicure, I quickly paid (I even included a tip, which I probably should not have) and could not get out of the salon fast enough. Due to this experience, I will never ever return to this nail salon again for any reason. Would have given Zero Stars if I could have. read more

Omg seriously? I have been going to the same amazing lady for 3 years but I HAD to get a fill/pedi and my lady wasn't available, so I called Fun Nail to make an appointment (closest place to my house). As soon as I got there they told me to pick a color but then didn't seat me for 15 mins. After I was sat in a mildly warm soak I waited another 10 mins. for a girl to start on my feet. I was annoyed but what ever, I had time to spare. My toes were finished at the table I was told to sit at for my fill to start. Sitting cockeyed is so uncomfortable and I prefer having them start on my nails while I'm at the massage pedi chair. Again, kind of annoying but I got over it. Then a new client came in and so my nail lady 1/3 of the way done with my fill passed me along to another lady. 5 mins into her doing my fill she gets up, walks away without saying anything and starts washing the foot bowls. I said "what's going on?" And she looked at me and then said something to the other lady in Vietnamese and never responded to me. I was astonished and confused. I waited 10 more mins not knowing why I had been abandoned so she could clean the store. Finally she comes back and I realize she was waiting on the only other drill in the store. Why she didn't bother to tell me, I'll never know. She starts drilling very quickly and I am not exaggerating, she cut my cuticle on three fingers. It burned so bad and i seriously had to bite my tongue and let her just finish. After all of this I wasn't going to write a review because my nails looked okay besides my bleeding cuticles. I didn't even look at my toes because I couldn't handle another disappointment. The final straw that made me want to write this review is the very next day one of the gels she put over my acrylic nail was peeling off, then the next day a nail split and came off like a press on CVS nail. 5 days later I'm missing 3 nails and 5 of my nails have peeled gel. When I go to my normal lady my nails never peel, never break (and I'm rough), and she doesn't cut me. Don't go to fun nail. If you do, bring your own drill. To sum it up, there are only 3 reasons I'd recommend anyone try this nail salon: 1. Like me, it's 7 on a friday evening and you have no appointment anywhere nor presentable nails to go out with 2. You're willing to excuse a sub-standard manicure job for a spectacular pedicure 3. You appreciate the pedicurist's skills to the point that you're willing to stand up to the evil woman at the front station (who appears to be the owner) Basically the other reviewers are so right, you will get the best pedicure of your LIFE in this place. The woman who did my pedicure both visits was lovely in personality and did an amazing job. She must be a licensed massage therapist because she knew all the right spots on my feet and legs. The cherry on top was the beautiful hibiscus flowers she painted on both of my big toes... seriously art, and I've had plenty of designs and what-not over the years. The problem with this place, is that the pedicure does not overshadow the level of RUDE I received from the manicurist. I would (and did) attribute her attitude to a bad day, but she was worse on my second visit. She was rough with my nails, jerked and pulled me to suit her comfort, and even threw her tool on the table when I smudged my polish. It was as if she were doing me a service by inconveniencing herself long enough to work on my nails. I went in for a gel fill-in and she did it in a way I've never seen done before... the first time they came out shiny and cute, the second time the area she'd done previously turned yellow under the light and did not blend well. She was visibly annoyed with my $5 tip the first time, and even more irritated that I'd forgotten to choose my nail color before sitting in her chair at the second appointment. At times she even seemed to be yelling at the pedicurist (although I couldn't understand the language), who just obediently kept her head down. If they'd been polite enough to speak English with customers in the shop, there would be no confusion or discomfort because of this. I'm no novice when it comes to nail salons, so for anyone considering this place there were a few other things that I think you should know beforehand... It's small and homely. Kind of like the maid took a short vacation and should be back tomorrow. Not dirty, just not as sterile as some people prefer these places to be (and having had a nail bed infection with acrylics in the past I understand why). The tools are not coming out of little baggies, but appear to be clean. One of the polishes used on me was old, and the woman added thinner to make it usable...however the quality still showed on my toes. They do your mani & pedi simultaneously, which I guess is great or awful depending on personal preference. It was very fast, but I felt that it took away from the spa experience because you're sticking your feet in one of those at-home foot massaging plastic bowls that you can plug into an outlet (which they choose not to do anyway so it may as well be a bowl of water). In my experience, being able to close my eyes and sit in a massage chair makes it feel more like a day at the spa and less like maintenance-time. Odd thing was that they had a row of massage chairs in the back, but no one touched them. At least they covered the bowl with plastic to keep it sanitary... As for the value and pricing, I'd say it depends on what you're looking for...at $50 total it was much less than what I'm used to (about $75 back home in Wash., D.C.) but you really do get what you pay for. This was no luxury spa and they put on no appearances for the customers... speaking loudly in their language on the cellphone, shuffling around in slippers. It didn't bother me much, but again...you get what you pay for. I once went to a EA red door that charged me something outrageous to put my foot in a mixing-bowl full of marbles and water, so I guess some people think the bowl is cool and might love the discounted pricing. Just be aware that there's a fee for using credit that they don't share with you... I discovered it by paying cash the second time. There were many times during both appointments that I wanted to speak up about my dissatisfaction, but we all know how far that gets you in the beauty world. I just paid, left, and today I'm going to have the gels removed and reapplied elsewhere. The shop was empty at 1PM on a Saturday... in fact no one crossed the threshold the whole time I was there. This says something. I think this place has potential, but right now it's just a clear example to me of what happens when you get too comfortable and forget to take pride in the customer service offered at your establishment. read more

I've been a customer ever since they opened their doors over 30 years ago. There's a reason why I've been a loyal customer; they make me feel welcome and it's a family atmosphere. I rarely make an appointment. Instead I call them on the day that I'm hoping to go in and they have always accommodated me. They also are extremely nice to my over 92 year old mother who has early dementia. They always respond to her repetitive questions and joke with my mother, who has a big sense of humor. read more

I used to enjoy going to Fun Nails for a manicure and/or pedicure. I agree with the person above about Chrissy. She was awesome and friendly and really made the place what it was. Now she's married and not working there anymore. The owner is grumpy and unfriendly and makes it uncomfortable. I'm not going back now that Chrissy has left. And one other thing, simple wiping the manicure tools with nail polish remover in between clients is not the correct way to sanitize. Beware! read more

I have been going to Fun Nail pretty much every 3 weeks for over 20 years. Fun Nail has been in business well over 20 years as they are reliable and good at what they do. Like me they have other loyal, regular clients. Not only do I go but my significant other has been joining me for over 10 years. He likes the spa pedicure/manicure and massage that goes with them on the massage chair. nn has been doing my nails since I moved to San Diego in '92. I have acrylics and get complimented on my nails all the time. As I have gotten older (yes I have been going here OVER 20 years) she understands that your nails change and she modifies accordingly. Anna used to do my pedicures and she was terrific but she had to leave several years ago and is missed by her loyal customers. Both Thu and Kim do our pedicures and my significant other's manicure now and they are both very good. I am often in a rush as I work long hours and need a nail salon I can rely on to get my nails done quickly and efficiently at a reasonable cost. So, if you are looking for easy, reliable and good, I recommend Fun Nail. read more

Beware of this place-it is the COMPLETE opposite of fun and they treat their longtime clients worse and worse as the years pass. They say that they close at 7 yet every single time I call to come at 6:00-6:15-(unfortunately that is when I am off work)-I'm told that they are leaving only to come find several people still there and more welcome with open arms. The lie, they are rude, unprofessional, and downright mean. If you plan to come her to "destress" RUN for the hills as if you come stressed out -as many people with a busy life do-they will only make you feel worse! Pampering is a word they do NOT know the meaning of and there is absolutely zero special treatment here whatsoever. Nothing. It's almost as if you are doing THEM a favor and THEY are the customer. Many times I sit there while they chat loudly amongst themselves in a language you cannot understand -(google Anjelah Johnson nail skit-this is basically them)- which is basically the most un-relaxing thing to listen to after a long hard day on your feet. Why I had continued to go here for so many years and take the beating -I have no idea but today after being lied to for the final time-and yelled at-I decided enough was enough. Do us all a favor Ann- close your business like you said that you were going to a couple years ago-too bad that deal fell through. Let's get a salon opened in such a great location that knows the true meaning of pampering and exceptional customer service.
