I've been here several times and I honestly this is the best place to get a gel manicure and pedicure that I've found, and I get my nails done semi-regularly. The price can't be beat, and all my manicures have lasted 3 weeks +. It's a small shop, only two women work there, and because they do such a good job, they book up fast so make sure to call in advance to make an appointment. The interior of the shop is not upscale by any means but they do a great job and that's all that really matters to me. I am by far one of the MOST pickiest person especially when it comes to nails, which could be the reason I had the same manicurist for over 15 years. I relocated and was forced to find someone new; as amazing, detailed, clean, and picky as my previous manicurist. "Deluxe" pedicure was nothing but sugar scrub for 15 seconds and less then 5 scrubbing my heals and dead skin which is why I bought deluxe. I was given a groupon for a deluxe pedicure and gel manicure for my birthday. I scheduled my appointment and told them I didn't care for color or gel and asked if maybe I could get an extra long massage instead... they were making more money for less work, so what's a few extra minutes on the massage. I got 1 min each side on my feet and 45 seconds per arm. I had cold water, a dry towel to rub the lotion off, and I had to ask for the foot scrub. Nothing about this service was good or deluxe. I pretty much paid $40 to get my nails clipped and filed. HUGE WASTE. I can recommend plenty of other spots that still take pride in their work and make the experience nice and worth the money. This is actually my second time coming to Royalty Nails since discovering their $36 gel mani/reg pedi deal on groupon. I was really satisfied with my last visit and decided to give this place another try - and I'm absolutely hooked. Sandy is the owner of the place and she's just super awesome to work with. She honored the groupon deal price and scheduled a 1:30pm appointment. I did have to wait a little as she was catering to a group of other girls, but as a result she felt bad and didn't charge me extra for the designs on my nails. Sandy has had over 20 years of experience doing nails, and it clearly shows through how meticulous she is while working on your nails. What I really appreciated was how attentive she was to what I was looking for AND still checking up on walk-in's/following up on other appointments when she felt like she was going to run late. You can tell she really cares about her line of work. The place itself isn't the most upscale...but honestly who cares. I never really got my nails done consistently until I found Sandy and Royalty Nails. This is by far the best value in San Diego. The quality of work I receive each and every time I go is much higher than anywhere else I've been. I always get a gel manicure and a pedicure. My gel manicure usually lasts about 3-4 weeks. The most recent one I got looks pristine and it's been over 4 weeks. I always leave with perfect looking nails! Sandy also has great hours and is very flexible with scheduling, which is great for me since I work all day. Sandy does have a Groupon available as well, but I would recommend just calling her when you make the appointment and mention the Groupon and she will honor it without you purchasing through Groupon. I basically only do yelp reviews if I have a terrible experience, so here goes. I'll make it short but to echo what others have said, the customer service is about a 2/10. The professionalism is about 3/10. However, the owner who did my nails was nice enough once we started chatting so I wasn't going to write a review. HOWEVER, I woke up at 4 am with exquisite pain on my big toe bc I got a bacterial infection. I'm sitting in the ED waiting for antibiotics and I can hardly walk on my foot. Wow... where to even begin. Another Groupon disaster. It started with scheduling the service. I called on a Satruday before 6:30pm and was told that she cannot schedule me because it's after hours. I check afterward and they don't close until 7pm. I get a call back about an hour later, she's trying to book us. She had no availability for Sunday that's for two people together but that she can do back to back. I wanted to go with my boyfriend so I ask about Monday. She said she can accommodate us at 5:45pm. Later, I get a text asking us for our groupon codes. A bit shady, but I went ahead and did it. After I gave her the codes, it took a day and several texts and missed calls before she confirmed our appointment. We get there at 5:40pm on Monday. The store is dingy and dirty. One of the two staff is already working on a customer, so my boyfriend and I sat and waited. I picked out my colors, a deep red and black. We were seated by the other staff after about 5 minutes for the pedicures. She does my boyfriend's feet first while the other staff continues to do the other customer's nails. Then another customer walked in who needed her nails fixed and we agreed to let her go ahead of us as I got the manicure/deluxe pedicure package so if she waited for us, it'd be a while. I ended up soaking in the tepid-turned-cold water for half an hour before anyone touched me. My 5 minute massage lasted 3 minutes and she spent a good portion of that gesturing as she talked with the other staff instead of actually giving me any sort of massage. Finally the pedicure wrapped up and I move over to the table for the manicure. At this point, the staff who was working on the other customer decided to get up and leave the store entirely. She was the only one of the two who spoke any English. She proceeds to take out her books/ledgers and started doing math while I sat across the table from her, absolutely stunned. It was then 6:45pm, an hour after we got there and I've only gotten a pedicure. She continues to flip through the pages and playing on her phone as I sat there. Eventually she did do my nails only to stop half way while cutting my cuticles, take out the books AGAIN, and did some more math. What. The. Ever. Living. Fuck. After all of that, we finally walked out the store at 7:35pm, almost two hours after we arrived, with unsatisfactory pedicures and manicure. Pictures attached. Hands down the worst service I've ever received. I scheduled an appointment on the phone for 12:00, arrived 5 minutes before my appointment, and they realized they had double booked. I received no apology and was asked if I could come back in 30 minutes because they had made a mistake. I agreed to come back in 30, and when I came back I was barely acknowledged as they told me to take a seat on their dirty couch. I proceeded to sit for 15 minutes until I realized they were still nowhere near ready for me, and so I left. There was zero communication throughout this experience, no apology, and no accommodation. I will be requesting a refund from Groupon as this was a huge waste of time and money. All that aside, the place itself is dirty and unhygienic. First off, I'm very picky with my nails and I'm currently looking for a new lady because my last one moved away. This was my first & only visit to this location. I called Sunday to schedule a future appointment with Sandy (since everyone raves about her skills) and I got to speak to Sandy herself which schedules me for Wednesday at 6pm. Monday I receive a text from Sandy asking if the appointment can be changed to 6:15, which I agreed to. Tuesday I receive another text from Sandy saying she has a family emergency and won't be available for me, she asked if I'm ok to have Lisa (her sister) do my nails, I say yes. I value and respect family relationships so I accept her unanticipated emergency. Finally, Wednesday comes around and I get to the nail shop. I walk in and I'm greeted by two ladies. I tell them I had an appointment at 6:15 with Sandy but she changed it to Lisa. The lady says "I'm Sandy!" So immediately in my head I think "Cool Sandy's here so she'll be doing my nails!" So Sandy starts talking about her family emergency and that she's had a crazy schedule. And she clarifies that the other lady will be doing my gel manicure. I was bummed but ok with it because Sandy is talking about her family emergency. This made me assume Sandy needed to leave early to attend her family emergency and that's why I ended up with this other lady (not sure if she was Lisa or not). At about 6:30 Sandy tells me that the other lady is ready for me, so I sit at her station. She starts working on me but I'm honestly not liking her techniques. But whatever, I'm already there getting my nails done! While this is happening I was expecting Sandy to leave to this important family emergency she has going on. About 5 minutes later another customer walks in, Sandy greets her, tells her to take a seat & that she'll be with her in a minute!... Are you kidding me? This was the emergency!?!? Sandy could have just told me she double booked or something! This was a complete turn off for me. There are a lot more nail shops ready to accept new customers. A friend of mine referred me to Royalty Nails because I always admired her long cat claw nails. I've been going to Sandi for 8 months now and I never leave disappointed. Her prices are really affordable and her work is exceptional. I love glitter and I love cool colors or designs. She's always up to challenge I give her with a new design. She always tries her best to replicate it. I get gel every time and it always holds up through the hard labor I do. Scheduling was difficult and I almost decided to give up the cost of the service and just not schedule. I did schedule for days later when I could get in. My appointment was with the woman who had answered the phone. She had me waiting over a half hour for my scheduled appointment! She tried to explain why she was rude; however, I didn't see why she had to take it out on me! We had never met! During my manicure she made countless personal phone calls!
