We decided to try this after hearing great things about their food, and overall the meal itself was absolute perfection. The meats are perfectly seasoned, and serve with generous portions. It did taste authentic and fresh, especially the guacamole and homemade salsa, which had the perfect balance of spice. The only real downside of our visit was the service, which definitely left a bit to be desired. Everyone we approached seems to be disengaged, and it took quite a while for them to come to our table we had to flag them down every time. Was looking for Mexican to take to the beach and found Funcho's West Hampton outpost. Rice bowls weren't on the menu but the counter staff said could turn any burrito into a bowl. I asked for recommendations and opted for their name sake with steak. My bowl came with marinated flavorful bits of steak, yellow rice and black beans, salsa Fresca and shredded lettuce. It wasn't greasy which I appreciated. For $15, it's a good value and filling meal, a 4.25 and. 3.75 for taste. They had some small Corona cans and red stripe in a bottle. Arrived at 8:15pm, placed an order and notified Romiro at the counter (whose boss later explained he's an underage worker) that I needed to also place a to go order. He said I could do so as I was finishing my meal. At 8:25, I went back to the counter to place the to go order (my food still hadn't come) and this woman said "we are out of food, go home". Huh?! Who bold face lies to a customer like that? Refused to serve me as she said she wanted to close early. I proceeded to watch them turn away 6 customers in the next 5 minutes. On my way out, she chased me down the street taking photos of me, so that was a particularly nice ending to the night. Ok, went to Not SoFunchos with a couple of friends around 8:15pm. They close at 9. We ordered margaritas and what we received was a big cup of sour mix. They were undrinkable (and that is saying a lot for me and my friends). We ordered the fajita wrap, some tacos and some nachos. We received our food around 8:45 and once it hit 9pm they started putting up chairs and at 9:10 they turned the lights out and then came over to our table and told us we had to go. Customer service at its worst. The food was mediocre but do not order the margaritas!! And they made us feel very unwelcome. We will not be back! read more

This place has decent food and definitely more reasonably priced than Margarita Grill next door. The downside is that some dishes are over-sauced and other dishes are under-sauced. They also lack the heat you'd expect from a Mexican place. The menu is a little difficult to navigate especially in the taco section. It doesn't make clear what you can add into your taco and at what price. The shrimp tacos were good as were the fish tacos but both were heavily sauced. The chicken taco and quesadilla were both on the dry side. I recommend trying them but just make sure you mention the amount of saucing you want. read more

First time trying Funcho's, and despite the fun interior, I left feeling disappointed. My order was pretty simple -- I came in looking for a rice and bean burrito. The girl taking my order directed me to the Tex Mex burrito. It came out pretty soggy, black beans had no flavor, and the rice wasn't cooked well. A few flakes of cheese (I mean really, just a few) mixed in with the pico, which also had no flavor. I also bought a can of seltzer water. Great food, my family got the enchiladas and I got the riptide taco... always hits the spot. We usually go to the one in Riverhead but decided to try this location out since we were in the area. Only downside is that they let middle schoolers run in and out of the store screaming and out of control, apparently this is an all day reoccurring thing. You can't eat inside of you want to keep your eardrums or sanity and you can't eat outside because the outdoor seating area smells like a wet dog and feces, the middle schoolers still come outside and disturb the peace either way. I had to go down the alley way and sit on a bench to eat in peace. I wouldn't be commenting on it if it wasn't as big of an issue than what it is. The workers know about the issue as well but said they are used to it. Suggest getting your food to go if you can. read more

Yay! I found this an Oasis! Didn't feel like sitting in a lunch place - Fresh stewed tomatoes on a taco was good! Not little chopped flavorless ones. Not sure how this was $1.50 and had chopped fresh cilantro in the lettuce, and no charge for sour cream - but it was. The kids were in all in there and me! No one else was over 18 in there. I've been coming to funcho's with my family for over 15 years and have never had a dissatisfactory experience there until tonight. For those looking at these reviews to gauge the quality of food -- it's delicious. As for the service we received tonight, the manager was unprofessional and nasty. It was heavily raining outside, we walk in drenched at 8:20, there were people at all tables except for two which had been turned over and closed 40 minutes early. A man with glasses and a gold chain (assuming this was the manager since the employees were looking to him for instruction) told us to get take out and walk back in the pouring rain. My 4 year old little brother was starving and we specifically made the drive out to not have take out soggy burritos. A group gets us from their table as we're talking to him and we ask to sit there and eat. He says yes. They make our food and give it to us in a TO GO BAG and tell us to leave... we did not just pay $150 to get take out food. Utterly disgusted by this kind of service and shocked Funcho's would hire staff with this attitude. read more

It came to almost $17 but I didnt notice til after seeing my bank account as my receipt didnt have the breakdown. They never even put the extras on it. Never saw a popular restaurant that doesn't have a bar close the entire kitchen or limit service before the close time? I am sure it was just that the kids that were working wanted to get out on time. We are posting this so the owners see this!!! I am sure they don't know this is going on. The only reason I gave it 2 stars and not 1 is because I have had some decent meals earlier this summer. The 2 meals I did have would have been more in the line of possible 3.5 to 4 stars. I stopped going to Funcho's several years ago, because I felt the quality had gone down hill and there were just better options that were available in the area. I gave it a second try earlier this summer and had 2 good meals. The fish tacos were fresh, well prepared and the prices are really fair. I thought the people answering the phone were efficient and empathetic to the needs of their customers, which can be hard to find these days. For whatever reason in the past couple of weeks we have seen a change in their staff's attitude. I couldn't tell you if they are different people or if they are the same people that have now developed a terrible attitude towards their job. When you call in for a to go order, they quite often don't pick up the phone. Especially if it is within 30 minutes before they close. I have called and couldn't get anyone to pick up, so I went there expecting them to be very busy and nothing going on and in fact I watched the phone ring and ring without anyone picking up. I wonder if the owner knows or cares that this is happening. On arrival after they didn't pick up, I walked up to the counter and the girl looked at me like "you know it is 6:45 PM and we close in 15 minutes!" Not can I help you or anything other than the concern of getting out of there by 7 PM and their website says 8 PM is closing time. Not sure if the Main Street construction as altered that, but if it has they should change it on their site. Either way got my food, horribly prepared. Threw out my dish, because it was slapped together so quickly it was a mess and better suited for the garbage can. My friends burrito was okay, but not great. Luckily I had an alternative dinner sitting in my fridge. I'll give it one more try, but if that happens again, it could be another 5 or 6 years for me to try it again. read more

This place is awesome! Went yesterday with my husband and we felt like we were on vacation. Covid safe, amazing atmosphere and super nice staff. They have a great beer selection and a huge menu. I have been to Funcho's before with a fine experience. However, this time I had a horrible one. I do not recommend going here, they are inconsiderate and almost poisoned my mother. We ordered, and once we got our food they mixed up our orders. We went in asking them to remake them since they messed them up. They claimed that since my mom walked in with only 2 of 5 tacos messed up, we were lying. This is rude and beyond not okay to accuse of a customer of lying without the customer doing anything wrong. We then went out of our way to show them the tacos messed up. They did not want to remake it but after lots of asking them to they finally agreed to remake one order, my order. But then, they refused to remake my mom's after something in the tacos that they put messed up, she was allergic to. Usually, most restaurants would not want to leave their customers sick, however, Funchos were giving us fake, sarcastic smiles and being extremely rude about the situation. My mom never got her meal changed and was without dinner even though she paid for it. Do not recommend it at all, you can find better food, and especially service. read more

While it's been a few years since I was at Funcho's, I have nothing but good memories of it. My fiancee(girlfriend at the time) was a nanny in Westhampton Beach, and I would go out there a couple nights a week to hang out. Funcho's was one of the many great food places we found at the time. I was addicted. I still am. I still crave their Chipotle Quesadilla. I ask her every weekend if she wants to drive out there and go to Funcho's. I don't see what's so great about this place. It's like cafeteria meets Tex-mex. Location wise, well....it could be better. Most people would probably pass by the place since you would have to walk down an alley in order to see the entrance. Don't get me wrong, it's not a creepy NYC alley way. It's actually a cute alley way where other clothing boutiques and smoothie shops are located. Parking is OK depending on the day since the only parking would be on the street. But besides that, the food isn't all that great ( to be honest). I don't think there's any woah factor in the food. I guess I was really hoping that the food would be authentic, but it's not what I got. I just felt as if I was eating better quality taco bell. I know, I know...I'm so harsh when it comes with the food, but hey.... people have been raving about this place and it really disappointed me. Price and portion wise were very reasonable. Quality is ok.... but I just feel as if it's lacking a little..... I don't know. It just didn't feel like Mexican Cuisine. Service wasn't that great either. You came in, ordered, picked a table, then you had to get up and get your food. There wasn't a variety of drinks to choose from especially if you don't feel like drinking alcohol. The place itself was very warm. I don't think they had their AC on. There weren't many tables to choose from either. They had maybe 7 tables inside (I think 4 of them for couples) and maybe 3 outside tables fit for groups of 5-7 people. My experience wasn't that great. I hope yours will be better.
