Chef, who is also in a local band be sure to ask when their next gig is
    Clark H.

This place is cool. The place is small, so it's awkward when you're the first people in because it's basically just you and the staff in a tiny room. The staff has nowhere to hide either, so there's a lot of accidental eye contact while you're just trying to settle in and take the place in. But then it starts filling up pretty fast, and that's when the vibe really kicks in. The bustle, the noise, the punk rock energy -- it all starts working together really well. We just did a couple apps and sake. The Japanese Nachos are wild. Only complaint is they could use more chips for the amount of queso/cheese they give you. BUT... if you also order the Japanese mountain fries, you absolutely need to dip those into the leftover queso too. Honestly both items together almost feel like they should just be one giant share plate instead of two separate dishes. But this isn't a Chili's. Also make sure you talk to the chef/owner hes probably there making hand rolls. Ask him about music, his band, where they're playing next, all that. The personality behind the place is part of why it works.

We ate it all. Too delicious to stop and take a photo of the dish.

The food is soooo delicious . Chef Tsubasa hooked it up! We had the Japanese Ceviche, the Hamachi Carpaccio, Red Snapper deliciousness....

Came here late on a Friday night for a light dinner and had a great time. Service was super friendly and the vibes are punky and fun. The menu changes regularly, so they have the daily offerings listed on 2 white boards - one for the raw bar and one for cooked food. Between the two of us, we ordered the agedashi mochi, vegan karaage, and mountain potato fries. We also ordered a glass of sake and a sapporo. The agedashi mochi was really tasty and fun! We've only ever had agedashi tofu so it was interesting to have chewy mochi in a savory broth like that, but we loved it! The vegan karaage that day was mushroom. It was served with a little salad and a bright mayo on the side which was a perfect pairing. The Japanese mountain fries were filling, but I think they were a bit under-salted, and I do wish they were served with a sauce. I'd probably skip them next time. I will say that their sushi looked really good because we saw other people ordering it. If we were hungrier, we would have ordered some, but that'll have to be saved for next time. Overall, we loved it! The prices are fair and the vibes are chill. Will definitely be back if I'm around Little Tokyo again soon.

Seriously had an amazing time at Funhouse! The chef Tsubasa is a bit of a punk legend in LA, and his food did not disappoint. My crew got like every vegan option available that day (they are rotating the menu!) and also some fish stuff that they loved. the vegan Eel is an eggplant dish that was SO good! A little sweet, a little umami, a little char. Seriously a perfect egg plant ! The vegan Karage (fried chicken) was kind of the star in my opinion. It's a battered mushroom that is so good! He gets the crunchy texture and flavor, while retaining the mushroom just enough. I absolutely loved this I could have eaten a bucket. The app order comes with a little salad, but you can also add them on to your curry. I got the spicy vegan tomato curry and it was AMAZING! V flavorful! I love spice, this wasn't too spicy and it had really great little veggies in there. We also got the mountain potatoes which were delicious The ephemera is really exciting if you're a punk fan. He's got some OG Slash mags and merch and so many great flyers!!! And they also have a very cute old school diner counter which I love. Cute vibe! Everyone's so cool and welcoming I can't wait to come back and try all the vegan options that they come up with!

Toro sashimi with kelp was extremely unique and so good! The wasabi was fresh and was perfect with it. We also got the beef udon rice and it was a perfect savory dish that complimented the meal. The egg was boiled to the perfect yolky texture. The owner is very friendly and can't wait to come back to watch his band perform a show!

A great Izakaya with a simple but tasty menu. I went for the beef bowl which has some definite high end Yoshinoya vibes. They've also got a selection of sashimi, soups, salads and more. It's tiny, but tucked far enough away from the main drag that you can probably get a seat.

The passion and reverence for fresh sashimi and punk rock resonate with each bite and song in this unusual restaurant for fans of the storied Atomic Cafe and cozy sushi bars of Japan. The owner quietly assembles beautiful plates of sashimi with the kind of attentiveness to detail you would expect of a master sushi chef -- except rather than being in a traditional environment, you're surrounded by vintage punk rock posters and ephemera. Who knew the sound of Sid Vicious pairs so nicely with fresh toro sashimi. I recommend going with their sashimi specials. The had a marinated snapper that was meaty and fresh, the perfect antidote to a hot LA day.

We came here for our friend's birthday and were delighted with how delicious and fresh everything was. The ambience is punk rock but relaxed and friendly. Will definitely be returning.

Absolutely phenomenal food! Creative yet traditional, outstanding freshness, flavor & presentation. Loved all the cute dishes & how beautifully everything was presented. Standout flavors in every dish we ordered. The fish broth was a great starter. The mountain potatoes are the best fried food I've ever tried. Sashimi options were divine, everything exceeded any expectations I had walking in. The owner is very kind, and informative about the dishes he is serving. You can tell he is passionate about what he does, you can taste it in every bite. Our server was attentive & kept our glasses full constantly. To top off the food being outstanding - the decor is a perfectly tailored mix of historical punk flyers, shirts, and memorabilia mixed with funky fun wallpapered bathrooms. They just added an outdoor patio & I look forward to coming to diner out there this summer. Highly recommend to anyone looking g for authentic Japanese food & enjoys a great ambiance!

Really good and fresh food, the ceviche, carpaccio and fish in general. Really good service and a unique ambience in little Tokyo.

A+ rock n roll Izakaya. Tsubasa put together one hell of a menu and one hell of a good time. You never know who you're gonna run into, and he's always got new specials up his sleeve.

Seating inside is very limited and consists entirely of bar seating, so don't expect to come here with a large group. The staff was very attentive and did a great job making sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. One small detail I really appreciated was the restroom. They have two types of hand soap: scented and unscented. The unscented soap is meant for when you're going back to continue eating, while the scented soap is for after you've finished your meal. It's such a small touch, but it really adds to the overall experience and shows how much thought they put into the details. For the food, we got the 6-hand-roll set, which ended up being plenty to fill us up. The rice was perfectly warm and had a slight seasoning to it, which helped bring everything together with the flavors of the fish and seafood. The hand rolls were fresh and satisfying without feeling overly heavy. Price-wise, I think it's fair for the quality you're getting. Overall, Kazunori is a solid spot for hand rolls if you're in the area or just craving some good sushi!

Street parking is also available, but it can be difficult to find and may require a bit of a walk. * We were a party of two. My partner ordered three ankimo hand rolls because she loves ankimo, and I ordered the six-roll set. * The rice in my first two rolls was a little too hot, possibly because it had just been prepared. From the third roll onward, the temperature was fine. * After my partner had the second ankimo roll, we both felt that there was too much sauce and that it was overpowering the ankimo. We had just visited the Pasadena location the week before, where the flavor was much more balanced, so the difference was noticeable to us. * We asked the server if they could use a little less sauce on the next ankimo roll, but we were told that everything was standardized and could not be changed. * We tried to clarify that we were not asking them to change the ankimo recipe or any pre-made seasoning. We were simply asking for a little less of the sauce that the chef squeezes on while assembling the hand roll. However, we were given the same answer again that it was standardized and could not be adjusted. * At that point, we stopped asking and just accepted it as it was. Interestingly, the last ankimo roll actually tasted just right, which made us think the chef may have understood what we were asking for even though there seemed to be some miscommunication with the server. Overall, the food itself was not the main issue. We've visited this location many times and have generally had good experiences. This visit was disappointing mainly because a very simple request turned into a communication issue that we felt could have been handled more easily.

Although their menu is regularly updated and posted on their website, they'll also have a piece of paper on the table listing on the special of the day. On our visit, the special was fried yellow tail, but we ultimately passed since our order was already loaded. After you place your order, the dishes are coursed out so not everything hits the table at the same time. Pacing was perfect and service was polite and attentive. Of the items we ordered the crowd favorite was the fries from the steak fries dipped into the sauce of the budo-gnocchi dish. The fries were effectively a perfected version of the McDonald's fry: golden and crispy, crunchy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. The wagyu was sliced into beautiful bite-size pieces and was melt-in-you-mouth tender. Definitely a must order! Another favorite of mine was the Japanese sweet potato. The surface of the potato is beautifully brûléed, there's an intense richness from the glob of miso koji butter on top, and the chives add a nice freshness to the dish. The pacific oysters are a good size and I really enjoyed the yuzu-kosho ponzu sauce on it. The spicy tuna crispy rice have a good amount of spicy tuna on top & I loved how crispy they made the rice underneath. The Kodo trio comes with uni, toro, & wagyu and the Toro sampler comes with o-toro, chu-toro, akami. All of these handrolls were phenomenal & just left you wanting more. The Wagyu katsu you cook on a hot stone at the table which I liked as an interactive dish. The Wagyu cheeseburger was dripping with juice but still had those crunchy edges. The Uni pasta was beautiful & delicious. The Chimichurri prawns I could eat multiple plates of- the shell comes sliced down the middle so you just have to peel it off. For dessert we ordered the Kodo basque cheesecake & Miso chocolate torte. I love a basque cheesecake & the sesame crumble added great texture. The miso chocolate torte made me wish I ordered my own. Everything from start to finish was amazing, it's hard to pick favorites. Parking- valet $13

Food is delicious, drinks are good, and parking isn't hard to find if you're willing to walk a little. The design kinda dark inside, but the patio is always nice. The best part? I can be in and out in less than an hour if I wanted!
