My partner and I went at opening at 11:30 am on a Saturday for the lunch combos and we were the first customers of the day/one of 3 groups over the duration of our meal. I ordered the sashimi combo (5) and a bluefin tuna handroll, and he ordered the toro don and spicy tuna handroll. We also ordered the 5 handroll set: toro, blue crab, spicy shrimp, spicy scallops, and spicy lobster. Everything we ordered tasted incredible, including the sushi/side bowls of rice. Usually I don't care too much for salmon sashimi, but it turned out to be my favorite fish in the 5 set I ordered. For my bluefin tuna handroll, I felt like the fish was overshadowed by the amount rice, but that could've been a one-off thing, as the rest of the handrolls contained a decent portion of the fish. Ok I am still blown away by how good the sushi was at this restaurant. This is a fun nicer casual spot that could be a fun date night. I wish I took more pictures but the lighting is pretty dim so my photos weren't turning out well. I was in the area and looked up a place for lunch. I recall seeing this restaurant with a high rating on Yelp so I stopped by for lunch. I found street parking in front of the restaurant and paid the meter. Max is 2 hours parking. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. We orders 5 pcs hand rolls and chirashi. A bowl of soup and side dishes came with chirashi. Tuna and salmon were thick pieces! I finished it all. Servers are polite and nice. I'll definitely stop by again with friends next time! The lunch combo for $30 is a great deal since you can pick one item from a premium list (otoro, large ten don, etc) and another from a delicious but more filling regular list (udon, sashimi, etc). The ten don has so many pieces of tempura which includes anago (eel), fish, pumpkin, sweet potato, and shrimp. It's the best bang for your buck imo. I tried the hand roll set this visit and it's pretty filling. The hand roll sets come in various quantities. Service overall is pretty attentive. They regularly refill waters and check in on you. I come around to little Tokyo a lot and had always passed by this place but never gone in, thinking it was probably another tourist trap. On looking at the map, I saw this place was actually pretty well reviewed, so I decided to give it a go with some friends. The inside is dim and intimate, giving a bit of a classy vibe. We came in a little closer to lunch closing time than would usually be courteous, but the servers were very kind and accommodating all the same. I ordered their lunch combo, which allows you to pick one dish from two columns each. I picked the ootoro sushi and the salmon collar. The sides came out first, and there was a selection of pickled vegetables, lotus root, and tofu, as well as wasabi and ginger and soy sauce. All the sides were nice and light, and surprisingly high quality. I'm not a fan of ginger personally, but on trying the ginger here even I could tell it was quite good ginger, and the wasabi was real wasabi. Next the miso soup came out. It was also pretty nice quality, clean and simple. The ootoro sushi came out next, two pieces of extra fatty tuna that already had some soy sauce applied. I normally don't have high expectations for sushi in America, but this sushi was fresh, rich, and practically melted in my mouth. Absolutely delicious. Finally, the salmon collar. It was perfectly cooked, delicious salmon with an absolutely beautiful char that really elevated the experience with deep, complex flavor and a fantastic crunch. The restaurant attempts to be upscale with a premium price point. Staff wore a mask and sushi chefs were both Hispanic and Asian. Opted for the 3 hand roll lunch special and it was decent. There was a mix of salmon, tuna, and crab hand rolls. This was served with some ginger, wasabi along with some soy sauce. They are quick to bus! We came for DineLA. The $118 dinner omakase is their LA special omakase with 14 pieces of nigiri sushi plus a baguette with wagyu and dessert. For DineLA you get your choice of a handroll. The meal was delicious, with the staff describing each portion as they come and cautioning the chef already seasoned appropriately. We also got an extra piece by the compliments of the chef. We enjoyed the yellowtail set and both the toro and ootoro were superb. Bathroom is clean. You can use metered parking (about $1.50/hr) on the street, but we like to park at Judge Aiso lot about a block away for $3 flat rate after 5pm. Omakase Course, in order: - Complimentary shirako - amberjack, red snapper, halibut - 3 types of yellowtail. Callout from these cuts was the shima aji, which was super crunchy for yellowtail. This was one of our favorites. - Sea bass, mackerel / scallop - scallop texture was a bit mushy which was interesting but my gf prefers the texture to be bouncier. Since I was allergic to scallop, I got sea bass as a substitute. For the mackerel, it was fishier than we hoped since we've had fantastic cuts of mackerel at other omakases. - Chutoro/ootoro - The chutoro was very meaty and had a smooth texture. Ootoro was super fatty/greasy/even smoother than the chutoro and reminded us of wagyu - Kama toro (5/5): One of our top pieces from this omakase. This was one of the meatiest cant even believe it's tuna. Fattiest and greasiest. First time we had it - Seared halibut fin - Flavor bomb, slightly greasy with a nice smoky flavor and a bit of the salt just combined together really well and gelt like a main entree. Super soft with a slight chew from the sear. - Salmon special with seaweed and lemon - strong citrus flavor but the sesame gave it a nutty taste too, almost like candy. Super unique way to prepare salmon and we were impressed. Seaweed also gave it a nice visual flair and some crunchy texture too. - Bonito skipjack - strong sesame flavor with a tang of citrus/ green onion aftertaste that cuts throigh the flavor. Texture was closer To albacore, less smooth than the other cuts - Isaki (white fish) chicken grunt - a little salty, delicate, with a fresh flavor from shisho leaf and a tang from the yuzu. - Uni from Santa Barbara - super refreshing as it was cold but also very creamy and a bit sweet! - Beef baguette miyazaki - very creamy but slightly sweet with the basalmic vinegarette that was added. Paired well with the buttery baguette. Overall (5/5): We came here to try the DineLA omakase menu and we weren't disappointed. It was essentially the same omakase menu C they typically have but with an added handroll and extra 2 pieces of fish. While it wasn't the first time we've been to this location, we've never tried the omakase here and were very excited for the chance. We loved the quiet and private vibes, though the omakase experience was a bit different from other places as even at the bar things were a bit impersonal and the waiter brought over plates of fish. We also couldn't really see the chef so missed the show part that normally comes with omakase. Other than that we felt like everything was fantastic and it was a well-priced omakase. We came for a friend's birthday because she's been raving about this place for a very long time. Considering that it was a Sunday dinner, the restaurant was pretty empty. The restaurant was very clean and the interior was like a warm modern style. Most of us got either the regular chirashi or the premium chirashi bowls. I would personally suggest the regular chirashi because it's about $20 cheaper with still very thick cuts of fish. The regular chirashi was more than enough for me, but if you eat a lot, you may need some extra sides. The premium chirashi comes with more specialty fish like the toro, ebi, and ikura. The sushi rice was all cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. The fish head in the premium can either be fried or in a miso soup for you. The server first told us that the premium comes with miso soup, so we didn't order any extra miso soup. However, when they asked if we wanted the shrimp head fried or in a soup, we didn't know that was the miso soup they were referring to and so didn't end up coming with miso soup because we got the head fried.
