I needed to have a water pump replaced on a 2013 Audi A5 and had an electrical issue that needed attention. I recently moved here from the East coast and didn't know anyone here who works on cars. This company got me right in the next day to look at my car and completed the work right away. I looked up online how much the repair should cost and their estimate came in on the low side! Plus they solved my electrical issue and didn't charge me for the fuses AND they gave me a break on a lube oil and filter job. They called me a few days later to make sure everything was OK and asked if I was happy with their work. I have an unusual car from a time period (80s-90s) many, many mechanics have told me is difficult because of parts availability, lack of knowledge, etc. Seriously, every place I've been to, the mechanics have been dicks about this car. I work in retail, so it's been startling to have people be outright hostile and dismissive when I'm attempting to pay them to do something. I tried Funk Bros. on a whim, and couldn't have had a better experience. They listened to me, assured me my car was fixable, and proceeded to do a great job in a more-than-reasonable amount of time. When tricky situations arose (odd-size hoses, locking wheel nuts with no key, etc) they let me know what was happening, and then they solved the problems. Wow!!! Finally found a honest, knowledgeable, on time, and reasonable auto shop. Took my audi A4 for a few simple things. (Oil change, oil pressure sensor) Armen and his team fixed my car in less then 24hrs and cost 1/3 of what other shops in the area quoted me. I Don't Know How to Feel about the service I was given here. Customer service and interaction with guests was definitely great, but I took my car to replace the spark plugs a little over a week ago. Today I noticed as I de accelerated in 3rd gear down to 25mph and began to give gas while still in third and as I'm accelerating my car would rumble and slight popping sound. Next I noticed my car would make a skip in fluctuation when accelerating in 3rd. After studying my car and testing my theory that it definitely was 3rd gear not responding correctly my check engine light came on and I received a P0303 code and confirmed my suspicion of something wrong with my spark plugs. Knowing how to work on cars and knowledge really helps, cause when I went to open my 3rd cylinder to double check it was gapped at .0520 instead of .0320. Readjusted the spark plug myself and immediately saw improvements in my cars performance and no longer skipping in fluctuation with the check engine light gone. Now my only problem is that when I idle in neutral, my car fluctuates very slightly and will have a very low rumble and a popping sound. Which still tells me something is still wrong with the spark plug work I received from here. It's nerve racking when you're driving and a check engine light comes on with a brake light malfunction. read more

I called and spoke to Armin. I explained my car was consuming a lot of oil. He asks what make and model. I tell him Audi and he says its a very common problem with Audi. I ask him how much for an inspection and he says free as long as he does not have to order parts. Ok great. I ask him when I can bring it in and he says the next day or bring it in and leave it over night and I say ok great. I call back later in the day to confirm the situation with my car, the free inspection, and that I am dropping it off and he says ok. I get there and first thing he tells me when I arrive is that there is nothing that can be done except replace the engine and they do not do that there. Did not take a single look at my car. Why didn't you just tell me that on the phone? What a joke. Complete waste of my time. In response to the reply from the business, being completely 'upfront and honest' would have included informing me on the phone that: 1. The only option for repair is a complete engine rebuild. I was not told this until I was in the office. 2. That your establishment does not do this sort of work to begin with so I should not waste my time. I only learned this after arrival. 3. Do not agree to have me bring my car in for inspection if you already had this knowledge. read more

Poor customer service over the phone. I called about one issue, to change my water pump, and as I was describing what other repairs I already had done, the representative made an assumption that I had a head gasket problem as an underlying and don't want the liability. He did not believe me when I told him that my head gasket was already checked out and that is not the problem. From this verbal exchange, I gather they're not really out to help the customer by actually seeing and diagnosing the car problem for themselves. If you have a perfect car without an extensive repair history, an easy fix pending, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise, I don't recommend them. read more

We've been clients of Funk Brothers through three locations (Ivar, La Brea and now Ventura); in other words, for many years. They've done everything for our Prius from routine maintenance to putting it back together after it was hit hard by another driver. The work is top-drawer. They stand by it. (Maybe once or twice in 15 years, we've had to bring something back for a correction and there was no push-back.) They're honest. And they save us money. Example: A hit & run driver recently knocked off a side mirror. Toyota of Hollywood quoted almost $300 for the part and almost $200 for labor. Yikes! Hovig, who owns and runs Funk Bros., told us what part to buy online -- I found it for $40 unused on eBay from someone who'd accidentally purchased the wrong part -- and installed it while I waited. Total parts & labor: Way under $200. He and Armen, whom you may encounter, are both good guys, respectful and appreciative of their customers. P.S. Agree with Alisha, who wrote recently, that at Funk Brothers she NEVER encounters "that [overbearing, arrogant] tone of voice," which all women are familiar with, that implies we're incapable of understanding simple explanations. read more

I called ahead and asked if you were taking walk ins that day (hardly showed up "unannounced") I was eager to get my car fixed but as the only repair estimate you offered me was 4000 dollars I declined that service. You may say that this estimate was never given. I say that it is exactly what you said. I have never given a Yelp review before and hope never to again. So I hope the few people that may see this will take my word as someone who has nothing to gain from being untruthful. But if they do not, that is up to them. Ultimately I hope your business continues to thrive. But I do suggest that customers get a second opinion as my experience with your company deeply fell short of my expectations. I also suggest you spend less time insulting/ arguing with reviewers online and consider why they are complaining in the first place. Nothing but wonderful things to say. Trusting, kind and honest work from everyone here. I came in to get my rotors and breaks replaced but requested to have my engine looked at. After a thorough inspection they found my bushings needed to be replaced. Everything was done in a timely manner. They also checked my wheels and recommended to do a tire rotation in the coming months. You can tell they have passion for what they do and the care they have for their customer as they did a full inspection of everything and recommended what needs to be done. Incredible honesty and friendliness! I took my car in to the dealership for a warranty repair. At the time they mentioned that I would need to have several services performed on my vehicle, the total of which would be around $800. I contacted Funk Brothers Automotive to find out what their quote would be. The general manager gave me a quote half of what the dealership mentioned. I brought my car in the next day, and they inspected my car. Since I had to do some work, they were kind enough to allow me sit in their waiting area to do my work. After some time, they said that the services recommended by the dealership were actually unnecessary! I truly appreciate Joe and his team's honesty since I would have easily paid the $400 for the recommended services to my car without question.
