Was quoted $1400 for brakes and rotors and when I got there was told the total was $1980. I asked how and the same man that quoted me over the phone said "I just gave you a ball park price over the phone" and was visibly irritated by my question- that's a $580 difference by the way. He also looked at me crazy when I asked if he was ordering oem parts and said "no what difference does it make they all do the same thing". Also, every time the phone rang he let off an annoyed sigh and reaction. Was a very strange customer service encounter from the start. I was thinking about going through with it but decided against giving this place my hard earned money solely due to the weird gestures, sounds, and all around customer service I was given. In the end I'm glad I didn't give this place a penny. I ended up paying $1750 for em parts down the street with no attitude! Win win.. read more

I just recently had a crazy ordeal with my 2006 Mazda 3. To start off, it's a hunk of junk, but it's my hunk of junk. This was the first car I've ever bought and only car I've ever owned. It's my daily drive that's doubled as my apartment, hotel, office, storage unit, and workshop throughout the years. It's been with me since day 1 and I have a huge sentimental attachment to it. Anyhow, my car broke down on a road trip down to LA. I took it to Funk Bros and Hovig and his team took care of me. They were able to get my car fixed and get me back to SF. Long story short, I still had some car issues when I got back to SF(again, because my car is a piece of s**t) and Hovig went above and beyond to support me all the way from LA. I'm not from the Studio City area, but if I ever did move to ANYWHERE in Los Angeles, I'm taking my car to Funk Bros every time. Hovig and his team define what it is to not only be amazing mechanics, but amazing, compassionate humans as well. Be weary of the negative reviews you see for them. Some people get emotional when money gets involved(especially with money pits like cars). A lot of the negative reviews are about money, others about miscommunication and mistakes(all of which happen, we're all human). I'm not discrediting their reviews... Funk Bros isn't perfect, but no one is. They try their best and if they fall short, they go above and beyond to make things right. All in all, the communication, responsiveness, and care that I experienced from Hovig and the team at Funk Bros is unmatched. They exemplify what is to take care of customers and genuinely want to get people back on the road with the most peace of mind possible. After a ton of searching for a decent shop to help keep my 2000 Tahoe running I came across them via good yelp reviews (and locality). They were incredibly helpful and up front, going so far as to have an on-line service bill which spelled everything out so I knew exactly what I was looking at price-wise and why. This was a new experience for me, and it put me more at ease. Now, several months later, I just got a text from them to check in on the work they did and to make sure things were still in working order. NOT TRUSTWORTHY I know mechanics markup parts a little, but they tried to charge me $80 on a $24 part. $30.00 on an $11 part, etc... Drastically varying hourly rates between $180 & over $300. Claiming "that's how we make money". Overall, quoted almost $900 on replacing a pressure hose, return hose & a pump. Came to Funk Bros. Auto looking to get my brake light fixed and was told that they were unable to fix it & I would have to go directly to the dealer itself to have it fixed. The next day, I went across the street to Discount Tire & Service Center and they fixed my issue in all of 10 minutes. I also didn't think the staff at Funk Bros. was particularly nice, either. Quite standoffish and cold to new customers, but very different disposition when interacting with customers they know (I observed this first-hand). I suppose that's natural, but it made me feel weird that I was being treated with such blatant disregard whilst other customers were being treated with far more care, general pleasantness and patience. My roommate swears by this place, but I wanted to come on here and speak to my experience. I was also charged more than double the rate to fix my brake light here, than I was at Discount Tire and Service Center across the street. Save your time and money! Beware, especially if you're a woman. I was told my car needed almost $4000 worth of work and was unsafe to drive because of the struts and suspension. I took my car to two other mechanics and was told my suspension is fine and to just get my back brakes done when I can, but the car is still safe to drive. They also said I was being way overcharged. I did spend $900 to replace cracked radiator and they tried to charge me separately for the hoses when everyone said they should have been included with the radiator and now it'll have to be flushed again since he didn't just replace them with it.
