If I could give no stars, I would. We made sure to call ahead since we were a large work party and hungry after our conference at the nearby Apex center. Although we arrived just before 11, the rest of our party arrived prior (we were trickling in) and had ordered not even 5 minutes before we arrived. The 'waiter' ignored us for a good 15 minutes while serving drinks to the rest of our party and others at the bar, as he seemed to be the bartender as well. One of our party even got up and walked over to him when he had drinks in his hands and told him we wanted to make sure he knew we wanted to order food as we knew we had limited time to order- he replied sure give me one sec. When he FINALLY returned he said he was unable to take our food order. We were kind of stunned and argued we'd been patiently waiting to order and how could he only allow half of our party to order? We had called ahead to make sure we could eat and his response was, well the rest of them ordered a bunch as if we were gonna eat our coworker's food. We asked to speak to the manager and she came out about 5 minutes later and said sorry it's not up to her- the kitchen refused to make more food. We even begged if we could just get some bowls of soup. She refused. We couldn't believe it. The rest of our party hadn't even gotten their food yet... not to mention the fact that during all of this not one employee asked us if we'd like a drink! Not even water at that point. So-so food, bad service. It felt like the place tries to grab money however they can. There were six in our party all had entrees and drinks and when one of us mistakenly ordered a beer that had cinnamon in it, they wouldn't take it back. They actually brought it back to our table and said you have to pay for it so here it is. We questioned the bartender about the mistake, he would not exchange it for another beer. You would think the menu, or better, the server, might tell the customers that it was an unusual cinnamon favored beer. We spent $160 and they wouldn't exchange one single beer for us. We have gone to Finnegans Pub for years on Wednesdays for burger night. They were packed , we were not even acknowledged by staff,(small) so searched for sports bar in the area, (Red Sox Yankees). Found Murphys , Burgers are better, atmosphere is better and much better TV for sports, sorry Finnegans. read more

We love the wings and taco night however the wait time is crazy long! Even when there is hardly anyone at the restaurant-went last night 2 1/2 hrs for wings and tacos-way to long! We had to keep trying to get eye contact with our waitress to have her come back and get our orders. last night we went to funky murphys what a waste of time and money. 3 of us had prime rib one had a hamburg. one paid for a king the other two got the queen they were all the same size.we got our food still did not have silver ware to eat with. no one asked what kind of potato we wanted so as a result one got fries, two got baked, and the other got mashed, 3 of the 4 got a veggie the other got none. I am VERY disappointed with this restaurant. I called the day before and made a reservation for lunch at 12:00pm for a table of 12 people. I came in the next day they had no reservation for 12 people they had it written down for 12 midnight that night. I was not happy at all. The waitress that was on did not care or apologize. The waitress we had was all by herself waiting on 3 tables plus ours and the bar. I then told her before we ordered our food i told her we need to do all separate checks for everyone and she told me no we dont do that here our system wont let us. This is ridiculous. I have been to many restaurants and never had a problem with getting separate checks. The waitress needs more training and your restaurant needs HELP!!! I will not return to this place. read more

We had wanted to try this spot for its Sunday brunch. Wish we had gone elsewhere. The service was cold, the food was cold, and the manager opened the door at 52 degrees, so the restaurant ended up being cold as well. Spend your $$ elsewhere. Either Main Street Cafe or Jakes has well prepared and well priced meals, served hot. Not fancy, but definitely warmer service than at this joint. Too bad. read more

Take home boxes are brought before asked for, and the place was empty, can see if the line was out the door. Guess the waitress had nothing else to do. The bill even came while we were still eating. I've come here once before with my boyfriend. We had a couple drinks. Decided to come back with a couple friends who were passing through town (this is probably a month later). The owner was so completely rude. I have a RI ID and he started grilling me about facts of RI. I couldn't even hear what he was asking (it was "what's the biggest beach in Oakland?" Seriously..???) I heard "what's the biggest meat in Oakland". I turned to my bf like "wtf what is his problem". The question was answered and he still told me he couldn't serve me because I packed light and didn't bring any other form of ID. He didn't even seem to give a f**k about our friends EXPIRED ID. Nope, just the out of state which by the way is completely real and it's mine. Why the heck would I try to pass off as 27 if I'm under 21 anyway? I get that you have to protect yourself from people trying to screw you but you don't have to be a complete a**hole about it. We will never support your business again and I suggest no one else does either. The staff is rude and it's too loud. read more

I do really like Funky Murphy's! The food and atmosphere are great! The staff are friendly and service is on point! I have hemmed and hawed over this post because I do enjoy going to Funkys! I would give 5 stars except for what my friends and I experienced on Saturday night with the staff member Lisa. It seemed she was high on something. We could all see it, it wasn't that she had had a few drinks (which I don't believe is allowed while working), it was way more than that. If we as customers could see the difference in her, we were very surprised that no staff saw it and if they did, why they didn't pull her off the floor and tell her to go home. Most of us have been there a few times before and have been served by Lisa. Saturday night, she was completely different then any past visits. The way she was acting & talking, whaling her arms all around, hands going all over her face, in her hair and all over her body, she couldn't stand still while talking to us and her tongue was flapping around, in and out of her mouth... just very different from any other time any of us had seen her. It was a very uncomfortable experience and put a quick end to our night at Funkys. I would hate to see such a great place lose customers, get fined or shut down due to the bad actions and poor choices of a staff member. read more

The food was pretty poor that my girlfriend and I ordered. How do you screw up a hummus plate (just noticed, they also misspelt 'hummus' on there website)? The hummus was completely tasteless, no pita bread, instead strips of white bread and a small loaf of white bread, carrots and celery. The white bread takes up half the plate; small amount of hummus. The Reuben sandwich was fair; the corn beef wasn't close to being lean-ish. I asked for a side of cold slaw and got a tiny amount. The cold slaw is nothing special, standard low grade. We ate at the bar; the service was fair. One odd aspect was that we started with one person taking care of us, who after taking care of us for a while then disappeared and another person was then taking care of us. I'm guessing the first person's shift ended, but no one had the common sense or cutesy to simply let us know that (the place wasn't busy). Limited beer selection on tap. At one point, we smelt cigarette smoke so strongly, we thought someone was smoking in the restaurant, but it turned out to be an employee smoking right outside the door, and the way the air was flowing.... Limited parking (small lot, and some street parking nearby). On the positive side, they did a very nice job on the renovation, changing the place over from the previous bar/restaurant, The Lazy Dog. read more

Well let me tell you I just moved back from California and I take my dog everywhere ..most of us do. NOT ONLY THAT. But I am a corporate trainer for servers and bartenders . Funny thing is I haven't heard the best about them . I was willing to give them a chance. I can honestly say worst mistake ever. I walked in and asked the bartender if I could sit on the patio with my dog she rudely looked at me with disgust in her face like "no" .. ok Then a man at the bar interjected with its a board of health violation..! OK sorry ..I asked for a cup of water for my dog so I could leave her in the car . I asked for menus and service on the patio. Once the bartender reached the patio I was having a one on one conversation with my boyfriend and she got an attitude interjected herself and said if I didn't like it I could leave ... I told her this was not any of her business what I was talking to my boyfriend about and to not worry about it was a private conversation and had nothing to do with her . She then took my order and when she returned she brought me the worst drink ever ..I asked her if she had maybe forgotten the tequilla . She blew up got an attitude and was like you don't like it first email well don't pay for it and leave .. worst bartender ever ... worst drink ever and I will be reporting to corporate ..
