Upon arrival we were greeted by about 10 ducks laying on the sidewalk which comes alongside duck poop all over the floor to enter the building. I was impressed to see such a lengthy menu, which so many options from funnel cake to fried Oreos to ice cream to waffles and boba tea. The man at the counter seemed to not be sure about a lot of the menu items and referred us to the kiosk for ordering and for item descriptions. I ordered mango boba tea with lychee jellies, my husband got the s'mores brownies and my mother in law ordered a waffle with strawberries and Nutella with chocolate ice cream. They both stated that the items looked exactly like what was pictured on the menu! The waffle and boba tea were good! My husband did not like the brownie but he did like the s'mores topping. He reported it was the most chocolatey dessert he's ever eaten so if you're into that then that may be the dessert for you! After 5-10 minutes of sitting about 5 bugs continued to swarm around our food. We had dinner at Wrigley's and decided to head over to funky sweets for a dessert afterwards. We looked over the menu and honestly we were blown away. We did not know what we were getting ourselves into. They had funnel cakes, waffles, brownies, ice cream, and even Boba. We decided on funnel cakes because it's rare to find them and of course they had a Dubai chocolate that sounded amazing so we got that also we got a Dubai chocolate brownie and a banana pudding funnel cake. Everything came out within a few minutes and the flavor was so good especially on the funnel cake. It was cooked perfectly in the pistachio and chocolate drizzle on top really brought it together. S'mores funnel cake was delicious and super fresh! Their funnel cakes come in two sizes. We opted for the larger size which was plenty big enough for two people to share and came out to about $12. The inside was pretty dirty and just looked run down. They have board games and a few table games, neither of which we played. A very funky experience indeed! The food was amazing, but everything else about our experience here was pretty wack. We got scoops of apple strudel and caramel caribou ice cream, a cinnamon butter funnel cake, and fried cinnamon rolls. The ice cream was great, really thick but still creamy! The apple strudel flavor tasted EXACTLY like an apple pie, and the caramel caribou had a ton of toffee/caramel goodness. As for the funnel cake, I was shocked at how much I liked it considering I never really liked funnel cake. Tastes just like the best kind you'd get at the fair, and the amount of toppings and cream was perfect. Finally the cinnamon rolls, good but could've been better. I would've loved to see more frosting either drizzled on top or inside the roll because if there was some, I couldn't really taste it. The texture/consistency though was good. As for everything else, it was kind of a mess. I was very surprised to see that at the counter there's two tablets you can order from, which would've been a great idea had both of them been working instead of just one. The one we were using didn't have a working credit card reader, so we had to wait to use the other one. I was also happy to see a lot of people there having fun on a Saturday night, then I realized it was probably so crowded because of the place being severely understaffed. We probably waited about half an hour for our food (including the ice cream, which was weird because most places just scoop it right then and there once you order it). It got to a point where no one was playing the foosball tables or talking, just staring at the counter waiting for their food, which was hilariously uncomfortable. The place itself has probably seen better days too, floor was sticky, and the tables and couches looked pretty stained. I was excited to play some board games while we waited, but pretty much all of the boxes looked like they had been ripped apart. I was really happy to find a unique dessert place, but the overall experience was just kinda painful. If you are really desperate to find funnel cake and other fair foods then this is the place for you. If you just want to grab something sweet, I suggest looking elsewhere. read more

Funky Sweets immediately caught my attention with the bright, glowing exterior and funky 70s disco theme. It is a really unique place to go for a dessert, and had much more interesting options that your typical ice cream place. Their menu featured a selection of deep fried desserts, which you can get topped with ice cream. We got the turtle caramel funnel cake topped with birthday cake ice cream, and it was SO GOOD -- way better than your typical carnival funnel cake. The fried Oreos were also delicious, but the funnel cake definitely took the spotlight for us. The deep fried cheesecake on the other hand was a little strange in my opinion. The inside was no longer cheesecake, but was rather melted back down to a sort of gooey cream cheese. The interior of Funky Sweets has some really cool colorful LED lights and a large selection of board games to choose from. They also has two foosball tables in pretty good condition. We played several rounds, but it was a little tough because it was very hot inside and there was a big crowd of people waiting for to-go orders. Also, it took a little over a half hour to get our food because there was so many customers and few staff members. I found it really neat that they sell Dark Canyon coffee, most people won't understand, but Dark Canyon coffee is a company in South Dakota where I am from and it's THE best. So many don't even realize the quality of coffee they are lucky enough to enjoy. My parents shared a funnel cake and it was definitely one of the best we've ever had. I got the fried red velvet cheesecake, and they offer a side of ice cream with it if you choose, so of course I chose. The cake itself, all fried things aside was pretty darn good. Considering this place sells mostly fair foods, it's probably about the best quality you can get. We were greeted by some very warm, friendly smiles, and given a rundown of the plethora of ice cream flavors to choose from. Funky sweets has multiple ice cream flavors plus multiple ways you can enjoy your ice cream such as having a multitude of toppings and/or enjoying the ice cream on top of a funnel cake. My favorite was the apple strudel ice cream. It was packed with caramelized apples, and graham cracker crust with smooth vanilla ice cream. Overall Funky sweets had a really delicious funnel cake. It was not too sweet, not too dry, and the nuts added a really nice crunchy texture. The funnel cake was also pretty huge and was big enough for my wife and I to share. The service was overall well. The wait however was fairly long, but that was because there was only two workers at the time we went, and it was a pretty popular place. Now the ambiance is where I had the biggest critique. Firstly it was stuffy and humid which made it really hard to actually want sit and dine in. I asked for reduced sweetness, but it was still too sweet. My kids opted for ice cream. The other customers there also only ordered ice cream, so I cannot comment on their fried desserts.
