Fuumi Burlingame provided the worst customer service I have ever received from an establishment. On Tuesday, I was excited to show a long time friend a new place to enjoy delicious food. I had heard from several people to check out Fuumi and initially I was looking forward to it. Upon being seated we were met with quick customer service. After being seated we looked at the menu and decided to try a few things as this was both of our first time. We ordered an appetizer to start and needed a few more minutes to look at the rolls we wanted to try. When she returned to take our order I decided to order a few rolls for us to share. With every roll I attempted to order we were met with surprised looks and commentary that included, "Wow" "Really?" "Wow, you must be really hungry" "Wow, have you not eaten today?" For the first few comments we tried to laugh it off as we thought our waitress was joking with us, but that wasn't the case at all as the commentary continued throughout our time there. When she left the table we tried to shake off the feeling that this waitress was shaming us for how much we were ordering, but we decided to look past it. As the four rolls slowly started to come out she made comments on how things were going to fit on the table. Repeating the things she said before and including, "Wow, so much food. Are you guys trying to get in a food coma or something?" At this point we tried to eat as much food as we could comfortably, but the mood was soured and we wanted to leave immediately. When I asked for boxes and the check she told us we didn't need to leave and we could take our time to eat. I simply replied, "We would like to take the remaining food to go as I would like to eat comfortably at home." We packed up the remaining food and left. I've never ever experienced mistreatment like this before at any food establishment. Many restaurants are thrilled to have their customers indulge and try different dishes of their cuisine. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. Tip: If you choose to service people it should include all people, without prejudice. My friend and I felt disrespected and were left very disappointed by Fuumi's staff. Delicious food, but it comes at the price of mockery. We will not be returning. read more

What can I say? Fuumi is my new favorite sushi spot in the area! We have become regulars here and love the freshness of the food, the friendly service, and the overall ambiance of the place. I usually order at least 1 roll during my visits and have yet to be dissatisfied. I shared a picture of tonight's selection, the Warrior Roll, but my favorite is hands down the fire and ice roll. Yum! They also have great tempura, delicious udon or ramen if you're not in the mood for sushi, and tons of other dishes to select from. The place seems to do much more take out business than done in which is nice for us because we never have a problem getting a table. They also have a small outdoor space to eat as well. Overall I would highly recommend you swing by this place when in the Burlingame area. And if you're in the neighboring cities, it's worth the drive. read more

I have mixed feelings about giving Fuumi 4 stars. I got a chirashi don bowl. Bowl was nicely put together, but a couple pieces of the fish were just a tad dry on the surface or fishy. Also, the rice was not sticky or seasoned enough. It was $19, came with soup, and I felt that $19 was a fair price for what it was. I would definitely come back for the chirashi at that price. However, based on the problems with the bowl (fish not seeming fresh enough, rice not meeting expectations), I would not come here for omakase, nigiri, or sashimi at the prices they're charging. I'd be rating this place 1 star, if I dropped $48 on omakase and encountered this. If rolled up into sushi rolls, these problems would be masked and likely acceptable/undetectable. Service was excellent. I also like the provided water carafe, no waiting for refills. So...it's 5 stars for chirashi based on the decent price, but since I see issues that'd prevent me from uneqivocably recommending the establishment, it's 4 overall. read more

Before shelter in place was put in order again we had dinner al fresco in their parking lot. They had the option to eat indoors but it was a a nice night outside. It did however get cold after awhile and they have big heaters to remedy that. Tuesdays through Fridays they offer bentos all day. I would opt for a bento, tons of food at a great value. Our evening started out with us seating ourselves since the menus can be viewed on our phones using the scan wr code at each table. Unfortunately, my phone had bad service so I asked for a paper menu twice and our first server told me that the paper menus had only a limited selection and that I should look at the menu with my son on his phone. Ordered chirashi don, shrimp tempura, and ice & fire roll. The sashimi in the chirashi don was pretty low quality, worse than Safeway even. Shrimp tempura was crispy, but 80% batter and 20% shrimp. Ice and fire roll was the best of the three dishes, but made pretty sloppily and fell apart just sitting on the table. The service was the absolute worst we've experienced from a restaurant. We came in at 8:30pm, asked if they were still open for customers since they close at 9, and the waitress said yes. She then proceeded to take a really long time to come back to take our order. We finally flagged her down, and upon ordering, she kept pushing us to order more items on the menu when we'd already ordered two large dishes of food for two people. So we landed on adding an appetizer and another miso soup. The clock struck 9 as we were getting the majority of our three dishes, and she delivered them with the check, which we promptly paid. While we were eating, the waitress kept coming over and trying to take our food plates away, asking if we were finished yet. Meanwhile, the other staff in the restaurant were also sitting down and eating, so we're not sure why she was trying to rush us out when she's the one who pushed us to order more food in the first place. The last 5 minutes while we were trying to stuff our faces as fast as possible, she was literally hovering over our table, pacing back and forth and staring us down. We managed to finish all of our food in eleven minutes. It was the most uncomfortable and rude experience we've ever had at a restaurant. I wouldn't come back here if you paid me. [Solid 3.5 stars] - rounded up because of the friendly staff It's Friday night, your friends are looking for something to do. The go to, of course is always food! As you probably already know, finding a place to eat with a big group last minute on a Friday night is tough. We found this place through a quick online search because it takes reservations. One thing to note is that this restaurant is still in their soft opening phase. Parking on Broadway is always a bit challenging - but luckily, this restaurant has its own parking lot behind the building. Score! We walked in and was promptly greeted and brought to our table We made a reservation for six at 7:30PM, but two friends decided to join. We alerted the staff and she said it was no problem - moved us to a different table. First impression was that it was very spacious and well lit. Tables spread out with plenty of space between each to make you feel comfortable. They also have a bar area available for seating. Decor was dark in color - black chairs, black tables, brown hardwood floors. Once seated, my friends and I were obviously the biggest group (and loudest) in the restaurant - four other small parties. No music was playing, so we could definitely overhear other tables talking despite there being so much room between us. We were served our waters and given menus. Pretty standard items to choose from for a sushi spot - appetizers, rolls, nigiri, and rice bowls. They also offered organic salads, skewers, ramen, udon, and specials which included omakase, a sashimi combo, and chirashi bowl. The waiter came back to take our orders. One particular appetizer caught my eye - whole grilled squid. I'm a huge fan of asian night markets. When I saw this whole squid on the menu, I knew I had to order it. I also ordered 2 two piece salmon nigiri, a lion king roll and a dragon roll to share. Salmon nigiri was tasty. Thick cuts of fish on top of very small balls of rice. Definitely hit the spot. The lion king roll was pretty good. It wasn't small, tiny, pieces that are mushy (looking at you Old Town Sushi). Quite the opposite, tall in height pieces with lots of filling and baked just enough time for the pieces to be hot but the rice still held its form. Pieces were cut well, making it easy to grab one piece from the roll. Next was the dragon roll - which is filled with unagi, shrimp tempura and topped with avocado. My friend and I thought this was pretty standard tasting. Had all the components that we liked, but thought the avocado could be better. It was definitely fresh - but maybe too ripe? Slices were thin and not a clean cut (maybe because the avocado was too ripe and was hard to handle resulting in the not as clean cuts?). The whole grilled squid was by far my favorite. Exactly what I expected. A giant, night market sized squid, grilled to perfection, sliced for your convenience, topped with just the right amount of teriyaki sauce. What separates this from the night market squids you're used to seeing is that it was cut into bite sized rings. At the night markets, it's probably not cooked as well and doesn't come with sauce, making it taste very fishy. I'll have you know I finished this whole squid by myself! That's how good it was. Can't say the same for grilled squid that I've had at night markets. For places that are in their soft opening phase, you expect slower service. That is exactly what happened here. So complaints about that since they're probably still working out kinks. But despite our food orders coming out slowly, the service was still great. Constantly had waters filled and being checked up on. Despite me personally enjoying the food, the overall consensus of the group was that for the prices, you expect "better' - not just sushi that is standard. If you can get past the slower service, the food is good. So definitely give this place a try! Oh! Another plus is that they give 10% off. read more

The place was a little hard to find because they still had the name of the old Chinese Restaurants up high. My friend got the ramen and it was actually a pretty big portion. I got the omakase and I thought this was ok. The order took a while to get to us and they were pretty apologetic about it. I didn't like the omakase because it wasn't all traditional omakase nigiri. There was a monkfish and two sushi pieces that were more like rolls. I felt the tuna wasn't as fresh. Overall, if i come back I would get a different dish instead. read more

Really like their Fuumi Sushi Roll and the Hamachi Carpaccio. Their hamachi is super good. I think it is safe to order anything with raw hamachi here. I love the flavors in the Fuumi Roll and it has everything you need in a meal. None of the cooked food we have here taste good. They lacked flavor and is either drooling with oil or overcooked. Their White Tuna Nigiri was also very fishy. They have their own parking lot behind the restaurant. Service was very sufficient on a Friday night. Based on food and price alone, I don't think this restaurant is worth going more than once unless you live nearby. read more

Really great food! Every person that helped us were great servers, I especially enjoyed the service from a young man, whose name I can't recall, but I want to say his name was Gary. After noticing that my friend and I like the good the good stuff, they had amazing recommendations, including the gold flaked roll in the picture I posted. This was during Xmas season, and after eating a whole lot of wasabi, we made a wasabi snowman. 5 stars service 5 stars food! I want to come here on a day that I don't have an SFO flight.
