My auto service need was fixing a leaky engine (from the aforementioned rebuild) that was LONG overdue. After an initial assesment, the estimate was up to a 2-day job and co$t wise, ended just being a little "teensy weensy" over the initial estimate price. This business had great reviews on yelp and google so I wanted to try it out. And I wanted to see if this was a shop I could regularly come to as I recently moved close-by. I walked in and after roaming around to find someone, I started speaking with an employee who said the owner Mike was not in. He said in order to inspect the air conditioning, it would be at least $200 which is also their price for an oil change. So I should just get an oil change and they would do many things including looking into the air conditioning. He didn't say it was a full air conditioning check. Yet he said they could let me know what the problem might be and he would note it. I didn't really need an oil change. I don't think I was even half way there. I decided to try it out and see how this place was. The owner Mike called me back multiple hours later letting me know my car was done. I asked him about the air conditioning and he said he didn't even look into the air conditioning and that I came for an oil change. He said it would be $240 to look into what the problem was with the air conditioning. He said that was just to inspect it though and no guarantee of fixing anything. I was irritated and he then told me I was a cheap person. We were on speaker phone in the car with my girlfriend and her friend who both said they didn't like this guy, were not comfortable with him, that he didn't know how to talk to people, the way he spoke was not professional, and that I shouldn't work with him, because there are other mechanics I could go to that were good. Ultimately I decided to go pick up my car. It was a very awkward conversation with the owner in his little office room. I went to pay and I wasn't very comfortable paying, because this is not what I came there for. I decided to pay uncomfortably and observed the way the owner Mike was and he seemed pretty arrogant and with an attitude after done of 'here are your keys. Go walk over to your car and get it yourself.' I was trying to get input on what he saw in the car on his service as well and he casually mentioned multiple things he saw and didn't seem interested in explaining much at all. Really weird experience here especially contrasting to the other good reviews for this business. I guess he goes above and beyond for other customers. Wasn't the case with me.

Fantastic Experience with Older Car at Burlingame Smog!…read more This place is great, and their technician, Manny, is the best! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. My old 1994 Dodge Intrepid had failed smog at a place in San Francisco. I took action to remedy the problem, ran fuel cleaner through it, changed the oil, put lower octane gas in it and replaced the spark plugs myself, making sure to gap each one very carefully. On the retest in San Francisco, the guy was continuously distracted and let my car idle for nearly an hour before doing the test. The car failed on the first low-speed test because the intake was too full of gasoline from idling too long, but it was fine on the high speed test which made me suspicious of the initial low speed run coming off of a long period of idling. I'm never going back to that place. Because I was raised in Burlingame, I decided to find a place here to do the smog test. A quick search turned up Burlingame Smog. The Yelp reviews looked good, so I called them up. Don't be dismayed if the phone doesn't pick up on the first try, this is a small shop, and Manny has to do double and triple duty. On my second call, it rang for quite a while, and then I noticed that Manny was calling me back while I was still on call waiting. When I arrived, everything was great. Manny was very friendly, and right off the bat, I could tell he was sharp. He immediately noticed my worn engine mounts and the very old rear tires that needed replacing (I had already ordered some). He even pointed out some signs of arcing around my spark plug wires where I had reinstalled them. Turns out Manny is also a mechanic and really knows what he's talking about! And, he cares! I told Manny about my experience in San Francisco--how the car had idled too long before the test--and he agreed that could have been the problem. He was very careful to make sure my car was properly warmed up and that any accumulated moisture/gas in the tailpipe was expelled before the test. Manny studied the results of my last three smog tests and knew exactly what to do to make sure my HC levels passed. To say he knows what he's doing is an understatement and he's a very nice guy! This was my best smog testing experience ever! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. It's well worth the effort! Also worth every penny of the price, a bit higher than most, but well worth it for the professionalism and results!
