The place is very busy and rightfully so, the ice cream was great and we wound up finishing our generous portions even though we were full from dinner. Burgers and ice cream at a roadside stand? If you follow my reviews you know my family and I seek out these places! And this one did not disappoint. 50+ years old and still a great burger. My husband was thrilled with the cheesesteak. The nachos were just ok but - only a 9yr old goes to a place like this and orders nachos . Chicken tenders were good - we got a kids order and they were two huge tenders and a full tray of fries. Ok now on to the ice cream. Huge servings to say the least. The whip cream is fake but the ice cream is not and it's pretty good. I got birthday cake and Bailey's and both were on the sweet side. The hot fudge was real thick and perfect (NOT chocolate syrup - a big check mark in this house!!) the cotton candy flavor was a surprise winner. The Cookie Monster was also surprisingly good - more cookie than ice cream :) All in all - happy to support a local business and was definitely better than the DQ down the street. read more

First time visiting. It was a Sunday 4 pm hot and humid afternoon. They have a lot of selection for hard ice cream. Soft serve had only a few like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee and I think one more. No sugar free option. No line at the moment. Customer service is fair. Not rude but didn't feel particularly welcomed either. Outdoor seating only with partial shades. The shaded area was hot also since it's next to the exhaust of an air conditioner unit which was blowing out tons of hot air. Free play area but kids didn't want to play since it was muggy hot and no shade there. Soft serve ice cream ( vanilla) quality was solid. $3.75 for a small but really like a large size in an urban city. It was smooth and rich. $5.75 for a large vanilla milkshake. Again, can't complain about the quality. Price is reasonable. Why not five stars? No sugar free option. Seated /shaded area was hot due to exhaust. Fair customer service. Pro: solid quality ice cream. I like the retro feel of the building and style. Free play area. Reasonable price. Overall I will return if I'm at that area. Probably better around 7-8 pm before dusk. Was in the mood for some ice cream while we visited the area for the weekend and was so glad i didn't need to go to a friendlys instead. While visiting in the Poconos area with my girlfriend and a group of friends, we decided to stop at this ice cream spot after a long day hiking. We were in the mode for some ice cream and hot dogs; and this place looked like it offered both. While waiting on the line to order, we looked at all the ice cream flavors, and they offered so much. I went with a chocolate and peanut butter milkshake. My girlfriend got a cup of vanilla and pumpkin soft serve twist, with oreo topping and a side cone. I must say the ice cream here was really good. I enjoyed the milkshake alot; i even finished it super quick. As for the food (aka hotdogs) , we were disappointed. Usually spots like this have great burgers and dogs, but the hotdogs and toppings were nothing special. Ordered one chili cheese dog and one sauerkraut mustard dog. Was not impressed with the hotdog meat. But the toppings were good. The highlight of this place was definitely their ice cream. Overall, it was still a great spot. They had a nice outdoor seating area for you to eat your food after you ordered as well. A must stop for some delicious ice cream. read more

Fiancee and I took a post-bar trip to Poconos. I thought I was going to get something akin to Bassets in Reading Terminal. Something homemade, and special. Not really. Gabel's Ice Cream serves Turkey Hill Ice Cream...something I can get at the local supermarket. The place look like the first and old McDonald's...a kickback to the 50s. There's a huge playground for kids, and very little parking space. Redeeming factor? Inexpensive and HUGE servings of ice cream. My fiancee and I shared a medium ice cream, and it was easily a large or more in New York City. This thing was HUGE! And, for $2.60? You can't beat the price. On another note, I wonder if people are predisposed to think I speak with a foreign accent. I asked for a "Dutch Chocolate", which was what it was called on the menu...but the girl had such a hard time understanding me. Oh well...oh, and she kind of wigged a little when I gave her a $20, she apologized though, and stated it was because she didn't have anything but singles and didn't want to give my change in only singles. This place is very close to the late Taste Bud. It is in fact NOT the Taste Bud, but it was next to it. I woke up three weeks after the Taste Bud closed and saw this place. I got excited because I thought it was the Taste Bud. I became suspicious when some high school teeny bopper took my order instead of Tommy. When they told me to stop mumbling numbers because I couldn't play the lotto there, I took a moment to examine my surroundings and came to the conclusion that this place had replaced the Taste Bud. After asking around, I found out that apparently this place was here all along, I just never noticed it (who would, with the Taste Bud next door?). After the initial shock and disappointment, I ordered a chili dog and a 'Moose Tracks' ice cream cone. The food was decent but misleading. Firstly there was only one hot dog in my chili dog, I've never had one with less than three. Secondly, Ive skinned and grilled many a moose durning my trips to Newfoundland so I know a few things about moose. I did not taste the slightest hint of moose in my first, second, or third cones of the flavor. Disappointing. I give it three stars because it reminds me of the Taste Bud. read more
