I believe the few poor reviews for this place must have been given by people who had different items than I ordered. Big Star Drive-In in Stroudsburg may be known for it's sweet treats, but today we decided to have a nice lunch on the picnic benches with some beautiful weather. We ordered the Butter Burger, the Gyro, and the fried pierogis. First things first, the Pierogis were simply deep fried and served. This is not to say they were bad, but they were just standard so I will choose to spend my time talking about the items that were hit with some love. The Butter Burger was quite good. Lots of buttery flavor, a quality beef patty, and some perfectly sautéed onions topped in melted cheese. What's not to love? The roll was even better than I would have expected from your typical "drive-in" style spot. I would absolutely order this again without question. The Gyro was solid as well. The Tzatziki sauce was flavorful and abundant, the pita was lightly toasted but still nice and soft, plenty of meat and toppings. If I had to say one thing negatively, I would have preferred a smaller chop on the tomatoes. This size made it hard to eat efficiently. I wouldn't put this up against some of the Mediterranean style spots in town (there are a couple very good ones) but I was definitely happy with the purchase. Visited this establishment with my girlfriend and loved it so much I had to come again...... and then again. I got the butter burger and fries and the burger was fantastic! Definitely buttery but it was perfect. I Aldo got a bbq sandwich. Was kinda bummed that they had no Cole slaw and the sandwich was drenched in bbq sauce but even those minor inconveniences didn't take away from the glory of the experience. Spent 20 minutes standing at the window before my order was taken, and spent almost $13 for a cheesesteak hoagie, small fries, and a large shake. But the "cheese steak hoagie" was three Steak-Um patties on a gooey hot dog roll, with brown lettuce and a couple small slivers of tomato. Horrible service, horrible product. Any half decent competition within walking distance would put this place out of business; I live half a mile away, but would drive five just to avoid this dump. read more

No denying that this place gets the job done. Been around for years so it's sort of a landmark in the area, but has been left in the dust by Jimmy and his multiple ice cream spots in town. I'd recommend Jimmys over big star for ice cream any day, and if you want food take the 5 minute ride up to janes (also owned by jimmy). Meh at best. It's High School kids giving out ice cream so sometimes a medium is barely even a small unless the kid has a heavy hand then its over filled. The food, which I have had over the years, is always very greasy and should be eaten with a heart defibrillator next to you. But, if that's your thing you'll have no trouble slip sliding into the emergency room when you have a heart attack. Yeah, uh, drain the fried items before you just chuck em in a bag. read more

Great ice cream, shakes and comets! This place has a little wait but there's a reason so many are going here. It's hot and their stuff is delicious! I had a cookies-n-cream shake - really good. Chocolate shake equally as so. Comet, a mix of ice cream and shake that you eat with a spoon was excellent. So many flavors and combinations. They even have soft serve (which isn't obvious since their menu is a bit overwhelming and a little disorganized). Fantastic though. A great family treat. Been there since the 1940's too. read more

We came here based on yelp rating and the huge sign saying that it was voted top ice cream place in the Poconos. In hindsight, that huge sign makes me so sad! While the service was great and the comets were delivered quickly, the comets were sickeningly sweet and soupy. It was so sweet, my husband couldn't even make it through half of his medium comet and because of the soupy texture, dropped some on his shirt. It was just a little thicker than chocolate milk. Additionally, pulling in/out of this lot is dangerous. I wish the opening to the lot to/from the street would be wider...for other customers' safety...as we won't be back. read more

Been going here since I was a kid, and my dad before me. Even ate here with my grandparents as a kid, so the place always brings back lots of good memories. The place is old, but looks nice, and the environment is very calm and family friendly. Their hot dogs, burgers, fries and shakes are delicious, and while the menu is typical, tge food, the environment, the staff and nice fellow customers WELLLL makes up for it!!! read more
