Super refreshing and light. It tastes of ginger beer and hibiscus with lime. The not so great tapas we had was the mushroom strudel. The texture was pasty and it tasted like dirt and oysters. It's probably just us but we did not like it at all. The other one that was just ok was the croquetas. They taste pretty good but the filling is quite pasty. We did order the patatas bravas which came out undercooked and we sent them back. Now the good...we had the pan con tomate, always a staple and it didn't disappoint. The wait itself wasn't the problem. I just wish someone had acknowledged there had been a mistake and told me to come back later. I wasn't in a rush; I simply didn't want to sit in a hot restaurant while my dog waited in the car, forcing me to run outside every five minutes to check on him. The experience was frustrating, and I do wish some sort of compensation had been offered as a gesture. The hosts were very kind, but I still don't understand why I was told the food was ready and then made to wait nearly an hour. The reason we will not return to Lucia's or recommend it, however, is the manager I spoke with when I called to explain what had happened. He was curt, dismissive, rude, and unapologetic--an absolute jerk. The only thing he repeated was, "We have an hour to get the food out." There was no point in explaining that it had already been more than an hour since I ordered, and zero chance he cared that a quiet, meaningful moment on a difficult holiday could have been made better by a little understanding, but was instead made worse. Frankly, I would not trust a dish he touched going forward. If he is the manager, I feel bad for everyone who works for him. The fish rots from the head.

However, the bartender at another place said that it would be the place he would go, and I've learned that the recommendation of a bartender is worth more than any amount of reviews on Yelp. We showed up just at opening, sans reservations, on a Saturday evening (12/7). There was already a line at the door, which is a good sign about the food, but we wondered if we would be able to get a table. The fear was unfounded, as the hostess graciously showed us to a table and dropped menus. Our server, Christina, took our drink order, and was very apologetic that they didn't have onions for Bestie's gibson. No worries - olives work just as well. She came back with our cocktails, recited the specials, and we asked her to give us time to enjoy our drinks; we'd flag her down when we were ready to order. The menu is a great selection of Italian cuisine, balanced with a few standards. We took our time with our cocktails (the martinis were perfect, by the way) and Christina came right over when asked her about wines. She apologized for us not having a wine list, and returned immediately with one (some excellent bottles in their cellar, and a great selection by the glass). Bestie decided right away on the Shrimp Gran Manier [sic], egg-battered shrimp in an orange-flavored sauce, as an appetizer. I fell in love with the Melazana, breaded eggplant with marinara and cheese, covered in a creamy pesto sauce. For entrees, I picked a simple sauteed chicken, covered with prosciutto and cheese, while the rack of lamb caught her fancy. Christina came right over when we were ready to order, and congratulated us on our choices. We were able to watch the kitchen as they worked. Both of us, having a lot of experience in the industry, marveled at how well the staff worked together in the tiny space. It wasn't long before our appetizers arrived, and they were as delicious as they sounded on the menu. As soon as Christina cleared the empty plates away, she returned immediately with our entrees (which we saw were plated just as she headed to the kitchen area). Bestie's lamb was perfect. She had a choice of two sides, and she picked an herbed polenta and grilled vegetables. I accompanied my chicken with a gratin of potatoes, and sauteed spinach with garlic. We took our obligatory pictures and dug in. Needless to say, there was no conversation while we ate, with the food taking all of our attention. Bestie's lamb was cooked perfectly, with a generous portion, My chicken was flavorful, with the right balance between the sauce and the meat (I have a love/hate relationship with cheese - I like a lot of it, but not when it overpowers what's under it). To finish things off, we ordered coffee and cannolis, something light to balance the richness of the dinner. Both were delicious. When it came time to settle our check, Christina was right over. I am so glad that we listened to the bartender and not the reviews. Our experience here was the highlight of our weekend in this area.

THE WORST experience. Now I'm not one to usually write a negative review, however, having been a waitress for over 15 years I felt this one was needed so that Gaetano's may improve their customer service and not lose another customer like myself and my boyfriend.. We arrived at 6:10/6:15 pm on Saturday.. Stood at the hostess booth for 4/5 minutes without any acknowledgement. Even the bartender who had only TWO customers at the bar didn't even look in our direction. AND she is right at the entrance door. Finally the hostess, I assume, comes over and asks, "Can I help you?" We asked for a table for two. She asks, "do you have a reservation?" We said, no, did we need one?" NO RESPONSE and she walks behind the hostess station and stares down at something for about another 2 awkward minutes...... She then walks right past us NOT EVEN breathing a word down to the top of the stairs at the lower level. At this point I said We are out of here. I'm NOT going to be comfortable eating where I feel I am inconveniencing them. Especially at 6:15 pm and for only two of us.. Are you kidding me?!! I have no idea if there is no training for hostesses, but even an adult knows that you ALWAYS are pleasant to customers and you greet them, even if to say, "hello we will be right with you." or, "sure let me see what we can do." Or "we are going to be busy with a large party, would you mind sitting at the bar?"... Sorry Gaetano's.. No excuse. read more

My husband and I tried this restaurant again after several years of deciding against it. We were seated right away, which was great. However, our server did not show up for over 15 minutes. We had to ask for water twice, received no bread although other tables did, and she spent a lot of time speaking with another table, who she appeared to know well. The food arrived after a very long wait, and that was good. The worst part was our server never came back to the table after giving us our food...not once. We tried to flag her down several times, and another server came over to ask if we wanted water, which we did. We must have looked really frustrated, because 2 different employees came down the stairs and looked at us, and our server finally reappeared. Never asked how everything was, did we want coffee, dessert, anything. She just asked if we wanted our bill. I responded, "Yes, we've been waiting a long time for it.", to which she turned around and walked away. We were in the restaurant for over 2 hours. Poor, poor service. I left a message twice for the manager and never heard back..which is why I am writing on Yelp. I don't think we will go back...there are lots of other restaurants to go to! read more

The new menu offers really delicious & creative salad options. The calamari is the best I have ever had and I tend to order calamari at many different restaurants so that is saying something. The pizza is my absolute favorite pizza that I have ever tasted. I have been here countless times and tried many different entrees and I have never had one that I did not absolutely love. The wine pours and the food portions are extremely generous which is amazing. The wait staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The new decor/televisions/bar/tables are so chic. After the renovation, the place looks fabulous. They also offer beers on tap now and outdoor seating. It is definitely worth a visit!!! read more

Last night I was hungry for something a little different and stopped at Gaetano's on my way home. I ordered a special - Veal Scarpiello. It was amazing. The take out order included bread and butter, a side salad and would also have included pasta, rice or vegetable if I had wanted it but for which I opted out. The veal was delicious - sauteed veal medallions and sliced eggplant, ricotta and fresh mozzarella cheeses, sliced prosciutto and mushrooms topped with a delicious red wine tomato sauce. The serving was adequate for two people and I had to restrain myself from eating the whole thing! Hope you get there to try it soon! read more

This is our new favorite Italian restaurant. From a delicious craft mocktail to perfectly charred and beautifully colored steak tips to some of the tastiest lamb we've had...and not to mention the homemade pasta! Soft and succulent and cooked to perfection. The gravies and sauces so decadent and mouthwatering the flavors had our tastebuds eager for more! Our owner is mostly Italian and has a 100% Italian mom and he was so impressed by this food. He said, regardless of where you are from you definitely need to try Gaetano's in Stoneham, MA. I haven't been to Gaetano's in a few months but I've been there a lot over the past 10 years and have never had a bad meal or bad service! The wait staff is great, they are always really nice and helpful and the drinks are always great too! I called Gaetano's tonight because of a bad experience I had at another one of their restaurants and they were so great about it and so sincere in trying to help me out to make it right. My sons made their reservation, confirmed it, made sure we got there early- it was Mother's Day. They had our reservation but NO TABLE and expected 4 of us to sit at a small bar table with the noisy bar crowd on our back! Not happening! We said we would wait for a table to open up and we're told they were reserved for the day. NEVER IN MY LIFE- have I ever been treated so poorly!! This was embarrassing and degrading! How sad! Best pizza around! You can't go wrong with Gaetano's - the appetizers are great (especially the eggplant rollatini and calamari), the food is delicious (try the pizza, chicken parm and lobster raviolis) and the drinks are tasty (harvest martini is a personal favorite and they also have a wide variety of wines and beers on tap). I have been to Geatanos 2 times the first for pizza which was very good, and then second for dinner. The dinner was not good at all, I got the broiled Schrod and it was dry and tasteless, one of the women I was with got the Chicken Parm and I could have made better looking sauce then that. Plenty of toppings and cheese but the flavor was flat. The meatball sub was solid. The meatball is very meaty, a great stand alone meatball. I should've added provolone cheese, it would've put it over the top. The marinara was really good thought. Getting the sauce on the side allowed it to travel well (even though it was only a 10 min drive, the bread would've been too soggy by the time we got it back home if it was pre-sauced). When inside I thought it was odd the menu displays didn't provide prices unless I missed it somewhere. We ordered from the pizzeria online so it didn't matter for our order, but an interesting observation. (See pictures)
