An after work spot that all my co-workers and I go to on Fridays after a long week. The Gaf Ale and others make for good draft beer selection at reasonable prices. Remember that time I wasted my beer budget on too many games of Erotic Photo Hunt? Midtown is usually Dance Club USA, so it was nice to find a place that is more on the dive-y side where a group of friends can just hang out over drinks. Dive-tacular. The Gaf manages to be a total dive without sacrificing cleanliness. While there is no food sold at this place, you're welcome to order from one of the many amazing local eateries. Definitely a great local bar. Unfortunately, not necessary a lot of attractive women - although I was there one night and I swear a girl from Maxim played us in a round of darts. My local. Pat and Pete are the nicest guys you could meet. And this bar feels like home to me. Not a huge place, but it's got 2 dart boards, great tap beers and a great crowd. Never too busy and always fun. No food served, but plenty of menus. I am on the dart team here, so I must say that it is a great spot for darts! Whether you are a seasoned dart player or a novice, it's always fun to shoot here. The Guinness is delicious and they also have great beers on tap that they swtich up regularly. Hey, for a 5 dollar pint, I'll experience some INTENSE dart playing/yelling/screaming/shouting/cheering/swearing. There's a bar in the middle, I mean just a bar where you can sit your drink down, and then there's the real bar behind it, the one with the booze. People are perched everywhere here, in seats, on bars, by the dart foul line, on plateaus, it's just one of those places where "hang out" really means "hang out." The bartender who served us either took a break just to sit and chat or he was done for the night. Just chattin' and watchin' some intense dart players. ESPN2 intense. Oh, and the bathroom downstairs is in this lights off, have to feel around for the doorknob basement. It was scary as shit. read more

Pretty good low key bar, with a fair beer list, and your well stocked bar. Nothing out of the ordinary, not anything fancy, just a quick and attentive bartender, and a jukebox (if I recall... 1 too many drinks). The prices are great for being Manhattan, and the crowd was pretty low key. This is the perfect spot if you want to find a seat at the bar, don't wanna hit a club, or don't wanna wait 9 minutes for a "mixologist" to make a drink. read more

Potential for 4 stars? Yes. However, with that said, the 4 star rating was brought down by the fact that it was filled with aging frat boys. Yikes! Yes, many were locals, but the sheer number of booming voices** coming from the herds of desperate looking dudes was not OK. In fact, it felt like I had brought in a pork chop (wife) to a dog pit (Gaf). So that was how it started. We had our drinks and were ready to go. But then... the rain stopped, the clouds lifted, and the douche-bags left. HOORAY! We continued to drink, and after 2 rounds of Guinness, and 2 rounds of red wine, our bill came to about $20. I like that. We'll see what it's like next time, but I can see 4-stars coming up soon. ** There was no music to talk over. They just kept talking over themselves. And got louder... and louder... sweet Christ on crutches I was ready to start throwing darts at them. read more

Great local pub. Spent the afternoon there today watching the Champions League final and had a great time.

This place is so neat and chill. It's tiny, but you're in Manhattan, so the size shouldn't be a real shock to you. They've got really great happy hour specials (I went a Tuesday and it was all day buy one, get one Dos Equis, plus $3/4 dollar beers and well drinks). Come here with smaller groups (any more than five people and you'll pretty much take up the whole bar), and if you like darts, take advantage. This place is kind of hidden off of 48th, but that must be why some of our favorite late night hosts have been spotted here. Only down side is that currently, there's some construction going on, nearly hiding the bar itself. But that also adds to it's secrecy. read more

GAF NY Manhattan Hells Kitchen 7pm Sunday 5th July 2015 Five Stars We came here to watch Women World Cup between USA and Japan. If you thought soccer was boring and that you could missed the first 15 minutes, you were absoultely wrong. The place exploded with the first, second, and third goals by Carly Lloyd. The bartender was really into the game which created an atmosphere of pure excitement. He even inspired some friendly rivalry with a cute Japanese couple. This place has happy hour bud-lights for $3 between 4-7 everyday. They don't serve food but you bring whatever you want in here. We decided on a decent Mexican up a block away. read more

This is an okay pub in mid town with a good happy hour. Unfortunately the bar owner has a $20 minimum on all tabs and the handy atm in the corner robs you for $3 which kind of kills the buzz. read more

On a normal night, I think this bar is relatively uncrowded, but when my coworkers get together for an after-work drink, we tend to bring a crowd. We reserved the Gaf one night for a special event, and we brought so many people that it was nearly impossible to walk around. Not only that, but they ran out of beer! And at the Gaf, that's the main attraction. read more

I love this place. It instantly became my local spot. I go often to throw darts or whenever I am tired of just being cooped up in my apartment. There is always a familiar face. The staff is awesome! Pete, Pat and Chris always make me feel at home. They are very attentive. Prices are more than reasonable for the area. There are enough TVs to make yourself comfortable anywhere you sit. They dedicate one screen to league dart games with an internal camera making this the most ideal place to shoot in the city. Lets be honest after having a few and a few more its nice not having to wait when there are 4 bathrooms. If you have never been and live in the aria you will love this place too. Trust me. read more

Alright I feel obligated to update this review. The owner was very nice and appreciative of my 3 star review and noted that they regularly clean their taps and even went so far as to give me the info of the company that does their tap cleaning. My hangover may have had a lot to do with the fact that I just got done playing basketball and I recall being a little hungry so maybe it wasn't the taps... so 4 stars it is. The exact definition of 5 stars "As good as it gets." This bar is a 5 minute walk from the Theater District, where you can avoid $19 cocktails and thousands of doe-eyed tourists. It is a divey bar, but it is intimate and you can easily carve out your own space to chat and put back a couple drinks before a show. read more

I dislike dive bars in general. *You may throw a tomato or rotten egg at me, whatever.* But I actually do not dislike this dive bar so much. Actually, I kinda like this dive bar, which is very unusual for me. Lots of seating here, which is great. My friends and I stumbled in, it was our last stop for the night. We planted ourselves near the TV screens so us Americans could cheer on Team USA while my Canadian friend cheered on Team Canada (we were watching the Sochi Olympics. That night we watched men's speed skating). I don't like beer but whatever, I decided to drink beer. I could not decide which beer to have and asked the bartender if I could try one that seemed interesting- Shock Top, mainly because the beer tap was cute. He gave me a small sample and I decided it wasn't that disgusting, so I ordered a glass for $6. One of my friends had a delicious Manhattan, apparently the bartender was good at making it. He made a little too much so gave my friend the extra. He had 1.5 glasses of Manhattans for the price of one! Behind us, there were 3 people- 2 girls and one guy. We were guessing that the guy was going to hook up with one of the girls, and he sure did. Meanwhile, the other girl, aka the third wheel whipped out her camera and started taking photos. She then started texting frantically, probably calling her backup hookup buddy. Then I headed to get a slice of $1 pizza and stumbled home. read more

Came to The Gaf to attend the Thursday night Bomb Shelter comedy show and cannot recommend it enough! As if the free pizza and cheap beer wasn't enough to get people in the door, the comedians are fantastic that it's amazing the show is FREE. Comedy shows are a must-do when visiting NYC and this show beats so many others in the city. read more

It's not pretentious in there at all and it had everything a bar should have - cheap beer, dart boards, good service, lots of TVs, sports memorabilia and even a picture of JFK on the wall. The gaf is one of our friend's go-tos so anytime we are out with him, we usually end up at the Gaf. It's got a divey feel without being grimmy-- you know what I'm talking about. Bartenders are pretty fast and good at handling bigger crowds. Prices are fair for a bar in the area. Downstairs they let you get a little more rowdy with beer pong. It's kinda weird going down there the first time-- you feel like you're being taken to the basement and the stairs can be treacherous- especially after several rounds of beer pong. But the bathrooms are down there too so hold on to that railing! read more

Great, laid back bar and a gem in Midtown/Hell's Kitchen. I came here for happy hour last Friday with a few friends and we had a great time. It was dead when we got there -- just two other guys and the bartender, but more people came as the night went on. Bartender is friendly and drinks are cheap. $4 for well drinks during happy hour and I'm not sure how much beers are. Only Miller Lite is on their HH special, but between my friend and I, we had 3 (or 4?) well drinks and maybe 5-6 bottled beers for $32. Not bad at all. No food, sadly, but the bartender has a massive binder with menus in it. Had pizza and wings delivered. Perfecto. Darts and jukebox are handy. When I went over to the jukebox, there were already 14 song credits in it, so I had a ball picking songs. Will definitely be back, despite being an East-sider at heart (and out of convenience). read more

I arrived at 3am on a Saturday night and the bartenders were in good spirits and the crowd was buzzing but not obnoxious. There was elbow room and with the high ceilings you don't feel claustrophobic. I could see myself coming here more often if I lived in the 'hood. read more
