July 24, I test drove a car and liked it. I preferred a certified pre-owned vehicle. The sale associate, Nicole, said we can certify it for you, just give us some time, and there is an added cost. She said she could find out and had to ask. When we sat down to discuss pricing, she stated it would be 800 extra. I agreed for the added reassurance. They asked me to place a deposit of $500 to get the car certified. She had to get the sales manager to explain why that deposit was necessary. He explained that they do not certify all vehicles, ***and if for some reason I do not want the car, that would cover the cost of them "certifying it".*** At the time, I didn't think anything of it because I drove it and I wanted the car based on that. She stated it my need some time to get it certified, and suggested I pick it up tomorrow morning, I stated I really wanted the car today, (although it drove perfectly). They said they would have it ready by the end of the day and I could return around 4. When I came back at 4, they told me they were just finishing up, ***but in the meantime we can finish the paperwork, because the finance person leaves at 5***. They told my they placed new brakes on the car and new tires, even though the test drive was perfect. After completing the paperwork and closing the sale, I drove home. At the first traffic light, I immediately noticed the brake pedal felt weaker and the car felt different. When I arrived home about 15 minutes later, I called and spoke to the sales manager. I explained the brake pedal feels significantly different. He said I should bring it back tomorrow morning. I brought the car back in on July 25, the very next morning. The sales associate, Nicole, asked for the keys and said she would test it out along with a service tech. They returned in about 5 minutes to say the brakes are fine. Another sale associate came out, (named Srikanta), and he said "your brakes are just fine, don't worry". Neither of them is a certified mechanic. Then a technician in a blue shirt drove the car with me around the block and stated this was normal, and that they gave me new brake pads that may take some time to adjust. I agreed to give it some time. Over the next day, it truly did not feel like the new car I test drove and the brake pedal continued being very spongy and delayed in slowing the vehicle when pressed. It needed to be floored to stop the car. On Monday, Aug 3rd. I took it to another Mazda dealership, (Ourisman Mazda of Rockville) where they offered to perform a full diagnostic on the brake system that would take about 3 hours. They were great! After their thorough evaluation they informed the rotors had been sanded down, perhaps when the brakes were changed. They did notice the spongy brake pedal and a lag in time when the car stopped. They suggested I take it back to the original dealer so they can fix the work they performed. I made another appointment at Gaithersburg Rosenthal Mazda, on Aug 4, and explained there is still an issue. They said they would "take care of it". After waiting there for almost 2 hours, they stated that they just flushed the brake fluid and that everything should be fine now. I told them the fluids were just inspected and were fine. I drove the car around the parking lot and it was exactly the same. I came back in and demanded someone else look at this problem. A "lead" service specialist then drove the car for a few minutes with me. He drove and noticed the softness of the brake pedal, and a noise when the brakes were applied. He then returned the car to the service team and David, the service manager came out and said they would replace the rotors and master cylinder at no charge and they would offer me a loaner car. How did this car just pass a full inspection 7 days ago??? When I was checking out the loaner vehicle, I informed the service attendant that I would like to make sure videos of my repair are sent to me (as advertised on their countertop. He said "ok sure". I also emailed David when I came home, 20 min later, that I want to make sure they get video as advertised in their shop. He also agreed by email. I picked up the car on Aug 4. The brake pedal did feel more firm, not perfect, but there was improvement. It is now Aug 9 and the car has returned to the soft brake, delay in stopping, and rough sound when brake applied. It is even worse, vibrates. It does not feel like a 2023 vehicle. I also had to ask more than once for those videos after the fact. The videos were short summaries, 10-20 seconds, with mechanics simply holding a part, and pointing to my vehicle. There is clearly a bait and switch scam occurring here with their "certification" process. I do not take these things lightly. Peter Rezamand, (the GM), Nicole Romero, (sales associate), and the service technicians will have to explain this further because I will not allow my $30K paid in full to be wasted. If I'm paying for it than dame it, do it!!! Not to mention the mechanic didn't even check my tire pressure when he rotated my tires. I was burning enormous gas and checked my tire pressure and all four tires had a different level. I was told the noise were my rotors. The advisor fed me a bunch of BS with me thinking I was having my rotors machined since I still had 60% of pads left. But I left the dealership with the same noise because he didn't machine the rotors. My car was pulling from side to side because the alignment "if done" was done badly. The dealership had the audacity to tell me they'll give me a free balance on my next visit. These dealerships are the best of the best, and have consistently earned my business for 20 years + You know you are in the right dealership when you see the same faces decade after decade (seriously). Sales Manager Gary has always been by my side when I bought used cars from them (except when the Skins are playing) and every used car from $5000 to $30,000 have turned out to be mechanically sound and great value. They solve problems after the sale with minimum hassle, and the sales process itself is low pressure and supportive. In 2014 my wife and I came here to try and lease 2 Mazda 6's. At that time the salesman (who I believe was named Marshall) gave us a very high number for the monthly payment, so we went to Ourisman Mazda in Rockville instead where the number for the same EXACT vehicle was over $100 less A MONTH. In other words, Marshall, and I'm sure his superiors, were not at all willing to negotiate. In 2017 and interested in a new CX-5, we decided we'd go here and try again. This time we met salesman Jake Feldman, who again gave us a very high number for the monthly payment. When we tried to negotiate, a manager came over and chatted and said he would contact me with a new quote. This whole process did waste a lot of time, and we had a tired infant with us. However, we never heard from them again. It was obvious yet again that they were not willing to negotiate and weren't really interested in our business. In any case, Ourisman again undercut their offer by a substantial amount so we leased from them again. Because we live nearer to Gaithersburg than Rockville, we had been taking our 6's here for servicing. I don't think we will be anymore after their poor customer service twice in a row, even though the servicing department had provided good service, especially from Julia Marshall. For that reason I can say I recommend them for servicing but definitely not for sales. read more

His exact words to me were " thanks for your note,but no thanks,I strongly urge you go over the bridge and get that car at that price if you can,but if you could not we always like to welcome you back and get you the car at the price we sent you,nevertheless thanks for the opportunity and good luck.Sean" I had heard this dealership was one of the more reasonable to negotiate with from a friend, but the shear turn away of a clean deal is disconcerting.. I dealt with a sales person named Ken Lewis and he was the most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. He was only interested in what the MSRP other dealers were offering me and never gave me the details from his side. I must have asked him repeatedly about it and his answer was that he has other customers he was dealing with and never followed up. He had me doing this waiting game for over a week. From the time I called to see if the vehicle I saw online was still available(Mazda 5) was still in stock or not, I was greeted with respect and kindness. I had the pleasure to purchase a CPO Mazda and dealt with Jonathan as my salesman and he was great. Never once did I feel as though I was being pressured into buying right away or that I was getting bamboozled by shady practices. Jonathan was very attentive and his customer service skills are bar none! I can honestly say that he went way above and beyond the call of duty with his service. I even joked with him that I felt like I was getting the big $$$ Acura treatment! My car was far from the most expensive on the lot, but from the service I received you wouldn't know it! I also had the pleasure of dealing with Amin and Gary after I completed the sale. Amin killed my banks rate and made sure that I understood everything I was signing and was very amicable and thorough. Incredibly UNPROFESSIONAL experience. End of June I purchased my first vehicle (used). Everything went fine, but received a check in the mail with vague description and no communication from the dealer in July. First time buying, so assumed there was a miscalculation with the DMV. End of August still hadn't received my license plates. I emailed and got a voicemail several days later telling me there was an issue at the DMV and I would have register the car myself once I fix the violation. I take responsibility for my part in not asking what that check was for, but and the end of the day I paid a lot of cash for this car and they are in the service industry. The least they could've done was followed up with a phone call when they couldn't register my car. With COVID, appointments are at least 3 months out so I called both the dealership and the person who left a voicemail to ask for help and didn't receive a call back. I regret purchasing this car from here. Despite the DMV and communication issue, the car sales man was not sensitive to the fact this was my first car purchase and basically made me feel stupid for valuing KBB. Overall, could've been worse, but I didn't appreciate their ultimatum tactic, scaring me out of looking at other dealers before I decided or else their deal was off the table. It's been almost 2 weeks since I've called for help with my car registration and no help. Please take this feedback and improve for customer service!!!!!!! read more

I love my new Mazda CX5 Grand Touring - and I love the people at Gaithersburg Mazda who helped make my dream SUV a reality :) My mom and I were both looking for new cars, so we started the adventure of test driving every SUV out there. Everything from the Acura to the Buick to the Ford to the hond. It came down to the CRV or the CX5. The Mazda won for a bunch of reasons, but most of all because the ride was so smooth and fun. Cars repairs aren't cheap but I do trust their service department and Tamvir. These guys have kept my car running well now up to 140k when I bought it at 30k miles. I'm not sure why the other reviews are so low but I honestly can say that they are good and have treated my right for years. EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! 10 BILLION-GAZILLIAN-FO-FILLIAN STARS! I took my car to a couple of places because the Check Engine Light kept coming on. The last place I took it to, I heard them trying to start my car (which NEVER had problems starting). The car sounded as if it was actually "coughing" while trying to start. I had to bring the car back 3 times because the engine light kept coming on after service. It was shakier than usual, and was "jumpy" while in cruise control. It was WORSE THAN WHEN I BOUGHT IT IN THERE! The lady claims to have fixed something on my car for free. But whatever they did to it,was HORRIBLE! I don't write bad reviews and plus they were really nice. They did call to check and see how the car was doing, but it was never good news. I believe they did their best so I won't write a bad review. Plus God won't allow me to. O:-) The 3rd time the service lady told me that the light is still on due to another problem and it will cost $990.00 to fix. I decided to just take my car to Mazda. MY CAR SOUNDS LIKE A BRAND NEW CAR! (no coughing and hacking noises) The car doesn't shake or have a loud sound anymore. And it accelerates WAAAAY faster than before. And the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON AT ALL! Who ever the guy is that worked on my car is a GENIUS!!! Please keep note of who he is. I want him to work on my car next time because he truly KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. My car has never sounded so good!!! WOW I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A BRAND NEW CAR. ALSO: They offered to take me home if I wanted to, so I don't have to sit around. I opted for the gym. (The other place didn't offer this. I sat there for hours for 3 days!!!) I just bought my second Mazda3 from this location so right off the bat, I think that says a lot about this dealership. After my 2015 model was totaled in a T-bone accident in Feb and I walked away from the incident completely unharmed, I knew I'd be replacing my car with another safe and reliable Mazda. I went right back to Gaithersburg Mazda to explain what happened and for a new, comparable car. Jake, new to their sales team, and Gary, the manager I bought my first Mazda3 from, genuinely showed their appreciation that I was back to buy again. After bringing in a used Mazda3 all the way from Ohio that matched the comps I was looking for and some obligatory, but tiring car-shopping-haggling (why I gave 4 not 5 stars), Gary got me into a *2016* Mazda3 for not even a penny more than what my insurance gave me for my 2015. For that, I am so grateful. Car shopping isn't exactly fun when you WANT a new car, but when you're in the market for one for unfortunate circumstances it's really a bummer. I bought a car here in 2006, and had it serviced here while under warranty, for 3 years. My experience was great. The old guard has moved on, and the new people I dealt with in service are worse than useless, they are rude and controlling. They took four days to even look at my car. Especially avoid the "Service Manager" (ha ha ha) Tate. My car was in an accident, and was taken to a shop. I was not satisfied with the progress at that shop, and I had it towed, at my expense, to Rosenthal Gaithersburg Mazda, remembering the phenomenal service they used to offer. When I called on Thursday, they said to bring it in anytime, they had lots of time. I had it towed that afternoon. On Friday, there was no contact until I called, and then was told we had to do some work ourselves (putting the bumper back on) before they would test drive it. Okay, we did that. Saturday, they are open, but nothing. Monday comes around, nothing. Tuesday, nothing, until I call. Meanwhile, I am paying for a rental car out of pocket, because I chose to move the car to Rosenthal and thought it would be worth it. So on Tuesday, I am told that the rattle is due to two parts of my car that broke, but that they are 10 years old and rusty and would have broken anyway. Multiple light bulbs are out, but Tate feels the impact could not have caused it (anyone ever drop a flashlight?) Not only did he come up with this, he called the insurance company and told them that any damage to the car was not their responsibility. Huh? So now I'm out the towing, the rental car, the diagnostic fee, and the repair, and Rosenthal's guy decided to make sure insurance would not pay for it. My car may have had rusty parts, but they did not break and rattle before I was rear-ended. I also didn't have any light bulbs out. Shame on these guys. I'm never buying another Mazda (per Tate, rusty cars), and never going to this dealership for service as long as I own my car. read more

Avoid at all costs. Seriously, just go to Carmax or some other local dealership. I came here to buy a used car that I saw posted online. My hellish day began when I arrived at the pre-arranged time, and still had to wait 30 minutes while the car was "cleaned." I'm not sure what we were waiting for because the car was filthy when it finally arrived (I mean, FILTHY, complete with the previous owner's trash in the back seat). I should have taken this as an omen of things to come. After taking the car to a local mechanic and coming back with a list of problems ranging from very minor to potentially expensive, the nightmare really got started. The car was whisked away to some other building. The mythical used car manager was much like Oz; people would disappear to talk to him or to interrupt the "meeting" he was allegedly in to get answers, but he was never visible. I'll spare the details (mostly because I don't care to relive them), but hours ticked by...yes, literally HOURS. All told, it was 7 hours from start to finish, while the team there argued with us about whether the problems existed or not (we all looked at the leaking parts together with the car on a lift), and tried to make it better by upselling a warranty. Some discounts were given, but relatively small ones considering the drama of it all. By the time we got back in sight of the car, it was pitch black outside and difficult to do a proper inspection. In our many hours there, I watched another lovely family pay full-on sticker price for a new car and sit for hours as they played games with their financing. It was all I could do to not yell out "Run! Save yourselves!" Icing on the cake was after signing the papers, we still waited an hour and a half while the car was cleaned (for real this time??), and it still had what can only be described as schmutz in plain view on the center console. Sigh. In general, the salesmen seemed like nice enough guys to drink a beer with, but totally ineffectual in a business setting. The managers and finance guy were practically oozing slime. All told, we left with the car, but I can't shake the feeling that we got hosed. I'm not sure that we did, although it didn't help to wake up this morning and realize that only the front driver side tire is in good condition and we now have to replace them all. The car is AWD, meaning they knowingly allowed me to drive away while doing damage to my car with mismatched tires. We don't recall seeing the tires in such bad shape on the test drive and the mechanic didn't mention them so...who knows. The worst of it is that what should have been relatively FUN and exciting - getting a great new-to-me car! - was one of the worst days in recent memory and I still don't feel good about the purchase. read more

RIP OFF ALERT!!! I bought a used 2008 Mazda CX-9 from them. The car had a few minor things that the dealership promised me that they would fix but they never did. The car had a bad key, and a few missing trim pieces. We left the vehicle with them for an entire week after purchasing it and they assured us it would all be fixed. When we came to pick it up, none of it was fixed at all. Then 3 days later we came back and only half of it was fixed and the key still didn't work. After all that they said they would deliver the car the next day and fill it with gas. They brought the car the next day with a 1/4 tank of gas and the second key only worked for 2 days. Also 2 of the trim pieces are still missing to this day. I felt they did not care and did not deliver on their word. I've been coming to Gaithersburg Mazda for years, since the 90's. However, today I had one of the first experiences where it left me upset. I called yesterday to inquire how much a tire rod was, the price that was quoted was lower than the price where my car was currently being fixed. I spoke with a representative at Gaithersburg Mazda and they informed me that I could drop off the car at 7:30 am the next morning and leave it for the day. The following morning was perfect since I use my car five days a week for work and this particular day I was off from work. On my day off, I get up to make it to Gaithersburg Mazda by 7:30 am. The doors didn't open until 7:40, but that is expected because of the rain and traffic. However, once I was able to speak to someone, they informed me that they would not be able to see my car today. I was then asked if I have an appointment, by the same person who told me I could leave it there from 7:30 am. He then proceeded to ask what I needed to be done, which I then said a tire rod. He explained that I couldn't get it done today because it takes time and that one of his technicians called out. I think it is very alarming that the same person who told me to come in, then tells me he can't do it because it takes time. I could have gotten my car fixed at the previous place if it wasn't for me being told that Gaithersburg Mazda would be able to fix it the next day. Not only did I wake up and have my car at Gaithersburg Mazda at 7:30 am, but now I have to go to another place to get my car fixed. I am extremely disappointed. read more

My CX-5 had a recall, so I called yesterday morning was able to bring my car in about 30 minutes later. They took it back immediately and started working on it. The rep I spoke to quoted me an hour and it took exactly that. Overall, everyone was friendly and I felt taken care of. They even vacuumed out my car, which was nice. read more
