Thanks Adrien for checking my friend's VW Beetle. Two days ago, my friend took the car to Costco tire center to replaced 4 tires. When she went to pick up the car, the technician at Costco noted that the rotor is loose and it is missing pins that secure it to the brake rotor. Costco technician recommended to have it check out by a mechanic. I called Galaxy and spoke to Adrian and he asked me to bring in the car for his mechanics to check it out. So I did and dropped the car off. His mechanics inspected the issue stated by Costco and didn't find anything wrong. Unlike, other scrupulous mechenics who would trump up some issue to screw me out of a few bucks, Adrien didn't charge me anything. Thanks Adrien!!! BEWARE LADIES! I took my ML500 last October, paid +1700$ for various items incl. $572 for remove and replace valve cover gasket. That night I told my husband the car was knocking. He opened the hood, heard the sound and found the ENGINE COVER MISSING. I took it back, tried to say it wasn't there but ultimately replaced, THEN YESTERDAY I got my car back from a different mechanic -Coastline Imports, HONEST MECHANIC I RECOMMEND) after he did my valve gasket job. This place rocks! I called in about my car as my brakes were grinding, they told me to just bring it by. I did and left it with them to inspect, thinking they'd have it for a few days. They called me a few hours later with a diagnosis and told me they could have it fixed in a few more hours if I wanted to go ahead with the work! They worked fast and Adrian who helped me was so kind! They found a few other issues but didn't try to push me into doing it, they just wanted to make me aware. At Galaxy, they seem to be honest. With a mechanic, that has to be one of the main things I look for. I have been here a couple of times when they easily could have told me something was wrong and sold me a service I didn't need, but they always give it to me straight. Prices are reasonable. Even though this place looks like the pizza delivery place from Toy Story, the service and skills of the technicians here more than makeup for the decor. It's a mechanic shop. I want my mechanics honest, hardworking and with a good price and this place hits all three right on the nose. All I can say is, these guys are good, honest, quick, reliable with quality workmanship. If I take my car there, they fix it! My car overheated a few days ago and my only option was to take it to the dealership, it was the only thing open. They ran a diagnostic and quoted me over $1100 for a new radiator, the hoses, and a thermostat and would need to keep it for days potentially. I decided to call around instead. I've heard good things about Galaxy Auto and it's right down the street from my work (convenient!) so I dropped off my car this morning. I know I didn't give them much wiggle room to work with because I couldn't keep my car overnight. They did a diagnostic, changed my radiator, the hoses and even threw in an oil change all for a little over $500! And they were done by the end of the day, as promised. read more

The Good: Let me start by saying they have good costomer service. The price was good too. I went just for oil change. The bad: I went for a oil change like 3 months ago. Didnt felt right of them not letting me see what oil they were using. They took my car all the way to the back too so hmmmm Any how today was my next oil change and buddy was able to do it for me at his house. We were SHOCKED! The oil was pouring like water!!! WTH!!! And I just purchase my car this year to get this type of oil! One thing my buddy told me is that even though they say they use synthetic oil, alot of places recycle it and say it still synthetic. So I dont what but what I saw was unacceptable! Just 1 tip. If they dont let you see what ever they doing be wary , take caution becareful.... read more

Ok, so I get it's not a No Pass, No Pay smog place, but $80 to test!? And then another $80 to retest after you think you've figured out why it didn't pass!? I remember a long time ago I went to a place that had to do an adjustment with the timing after the car didn't pass. This place certainly didn't charge me another full test fee to do the retest. Horrible experience and I got no feeling that they cared at all that I had just thrown away $80. That was probably the worst part. read more

Capable mechanics but recently charged me - a multiple-car customer of theirs for decades - for just diagnosing one of my cars (since I didn't proceed with the work). The car is still running fine without the work recommended by Galaxy. Customer service skills and good business acumen seem to be on the decline...I will not take any of my cars there from now on. I went here for a smog certificate. It got the job done, what more can I say? I'm not sure if they do the Smog Check "Test Only" thing. Good, courteous, and quick service. They were done by the time I finished lunch across the street at the Cream Pan. Cost for a smog certificate: $58. Is that the right price? overpriced? I'm not sure about that either. read more

"Seems" like a good place. Please read on. For my service their part supplier brought the wrong brake pads which added an additional hour and half to my service. In addition, I asked if they can use my own purchased oil for an additional oil change they said they don't use customer installed parts. OK, lo and behold they put in the wrong oil grade. They kindly changed it using the oil I brought. That's another half hour or so. Frustrated at my whole day here when I could've been done at least another 2 hours sooner. With a baby at home that's a lot of time spent here. Also I'd noticed a lot of other customers spending a lot of time here. Be prepared to wait. UPDATE: I had to bring my car back because my original problem came back although less severe. They are getting it fixed. I had a revelation in the waiting room prompting me to update my review. I noticed nearly all the customers back here are familiar with the crew here. Reason being they are -- and have been -- bringing their vehicles back here because their issues are not being fixed correctly, therefore all the returning customers and their interactions with staff. I am now growing weary of my experience here as I wait in the waiting room. My recommendation: ok place for small jobs; would not recommend for major work to save a few bucks. For that you might as well go straight to the dealership and get it done right the first time. And, I'm still experiencing vibration in my brakes... Jan. 12, 2012 UPDATE - I stumbled upon my review back on Yelp! and read other new reviews about Galaxy Automotive and noticed a trend in their customer reviews I hope other readers can catch on to. Simply put, they really don't know how to determine your car problems beyond oil changes, if that. It seems they simply do a cursory evaluation hoping they've identified your car problems. To me that doesn't feel very comforting. It's like throwing a dart blindfolded in hopes of hitting the target. I really think anyone visiting this shop is risking a whole lot in search of affordable service. You'll save on money, but pay more with your time and frustration, even the safety of your passengers. For those who love the service, I can only imagine that you lucked out with the right mechanic, or they have you fooled. My first experience with these guys years ago was bad, and like a dummy, I gave them another chance just because it was convenient. This time was worse than the last. Had my car for literally 8 days, because they twice failed to get the part needed from their suppliers. Then they wanted to keep it 4 more days hoping the part would come in. I'm like, get lost. I've already been paying 8 days for Uber, not gonna do this for 4 more days, not knowing if the part will actually show up this time or not. So obviously these guys can't get their shit together, so I need to take it to a more reliable mechanic. But before I do that, they want their $95 for the diagnostic test. I was like really? After having my car for 8 days and needing 4 more days, and all the inconvenience they have caused me? They said they needed to be compensated for their time. I said what about my fucking time? Total customer service fail. If you choose to use this place in the future, just light your money on fire now, and remember that I told you so. read more

I was told at the dealership that my car needed the front brakes replaced. They also said the rear brakes were okay but would need to be replaced soon. (They were at 30%.) I wanted a second opinion and knew I could probably spend less, so I called around based on Yelp reviews. Galaxy gave me the best quote. I took the car in on a Saturday at 11:00, knowing it would be busy, but not having a better option. They called me with the estimate quickly and it was for even less than they quoted over the phone. The car was ready to go 90 minutes later. Only the front needed to be replaced and the rear brakes are at 60% so I have even longer than the dealership told me. They were quick, friendly, and honest about my car. Any time an auto repair place tells me work can wait, I take that as a sign of a good place. read more

I serviced my car here a while back and swore to never return...unfortunately I chose convenience over quality service...again The first time around I had my passenger window motor replaced by galaxy due to malfunction and was charged an arm and a leg for it. The window was working well for a couple of months but then stopped rolling up or down again...long story short, I took it to my dealer to see what the issue was. They pretty much said that who ever fixed it in the first place didn't know what they were doing and the new motor that was put in was in pieces. Unfortunately I gave Galaxy another shot at an oil change and smog check, I thought there is no way they could mess this up. Well they did, only this time it was their customer service and regulations that is causing me to write this negative review. Went in for an oil and smog check, the guy said it would be take around an hour and a half, not bothering to explain to me the reason why. Now I don't know much about cars, but I knew that was a little ridiculous for a simple oil change and smog check...let alone the overpriced quote I was given. But, I was already there, so I grabbed my stuff and was about to wander for an hour until the mechanic mentions that the smog test would only take a few mins and that the oil change was causing my delay. Shouldn't these things be mentioned to the customer before hand?? I was just getting an oil change to get it out of the way, but I was desperate for the smog test to get my car registered. Strike 2! I tell that hustler at the front that I only want the smog, 10 mins later it was done and was charged $40 or so...except it didn't pass because I had my battery connection tightened at autozone right before. So he told me to drive around and come back and recheck it...and he would give me a discount on the second smog.....are you kidding me? He wants me to pay for another smog because the battery wasn't registering the test?? I've gotten my car smogged a bunch of times in the past and not all have passed, but they always allow 30 days for a free re-check! His response to that was " we don work like dat". ppffft...give me a discount he says..as if I didn't just throw my money in the trash...and by trash, I mean Galaxy automotive. Strike 3! I am very happy with this shop. My engine light was on and I had already had my car to the dealership and was told that the problem was an oil leak which would cost about $1600 to repair. The dealership extinguished the light but several days later it was on again. This time I went to Galaxy, as recommended by my daughter. turns out the problem is not a $1600 one, but rather a gas cap that needs to be replaced for $28. I specifically asked about an oil leak and was told that, at most, maybe a gasket would have to be replaced. I will be using this place from now on. read more

I used to go to Star Auto (the AAMCO on Newport and Mitchell), but 1) they melted the paint on my car while they were servicing it, and 2) the last time I called them, they were so rude to me that I hung up. A formerly great place that appears to have fallen for its own hype. So then I try Galaxy Automotive. From the start, their estimates are honest, and they really go out of their way to get you the best deal (they actually searched around for the lowest price they could get me on a fuel pump that I was told by another place I needed; turned out, upon inspection by Galaxy, I was told I didn't need a fuel pump at all). They not only installed a new headlight bulb; they fixed the headlight (it kept shutting off) for no additional charge. These guys are fast, and very, very efficient. I just love them. I now take my car in for everything from tune-ups to brakes. I won't go anywhere else. Close to everything delicious (Cream Pan, 7 Leaves), so you can walk around and get some good eats while you wait. read more

I went to Galaxy Automotive to get an inspection on a car I wanted to buy. They told me the car had a leaking head gasket which required a $2,200 repair. They told me the repair would be absolutely necessary in the near future to avoid serious engine problems. They also showed me coolant build up on the outside of the gasket. The car's owner told me he had taken the car to the dealership recently. They told him everything was fine and he couldn't imagine this being a problem. I agreed to settle it with him by getting the gasket tested by another mechanic of my choosing. We had the head gasket compression tested at another shop. They found that the gasket had no leaks. They also checked for leaked coolant in the engine and found none. They explained that the coolant build-up was completely normal as it is impossible to design a gasket with a perfect seal. They seemed to think anyone with a knowledge of cars should have been aware of that. While this may have just been an honest mistake, I do get the feeling that we were being cheated since the mechanic at Galaxy offered to drop the price of the inspection from the repair cost if we did the repairs there. I do not recommend this place. read more

I'm going to admit that I originally stopped going here because I thought I got ripped off, what happened was a misdiagnosis for my vehicle from the dealership. I had them work on my car for all the wrong reasons, and not only did they tell me the dealership made a mistake but they only did what work they felt was necessary at the time but I had convinced myself that they ripped me off. This was several years ago, and when I finally sold my car the new owner had called me up and asked me about the same particular issue, so I had him call Galaxy and they were a big help. I guess it happens when you don't know much about cars, I never filed a complaint but I stopped taking my vehicle after the incident. I should have trusted them at the time because I ended up actually getting ripped off by the dealership. From my experience at Galaxy, I have never been lied to or had to wait long for the work to be done. When I did take my vehicle there years ago, I was told to have it diagnosed by a few places and ask for estimates. Galaxy was the last place, which was referred by a friend so I took it there last. Not only did they tell me I didn't need some of the work the other places said done, they told me to keep track of the mileage and worry about those things around that time. When they told me my vehicle would be ready by a certain time, it was done. They charge fair prices and keep in communication with their customers very well. There was even a time when I got an oil change here, I had mentioned to the worker that I bought new windshield wipers and he put them on for free. It's those little things I remember that make me feel they're good to all of their customers and want you to be able to trust them. I've had bad experiences with the dealership, Jiffy Lube and Pep Boys but I've never had a problem with Galaxy. These guys do a good job at a very respectable speed. read more
