Huevos con nopales and menudo(w/out pig foot), plus 2 vampiros fresh juices.

This is the most authentic Mexican breakfast in San Francisco. When I am missing my family in Mexico this is where I come to feel like I'm eating at my granny's breakfast table. The portion sizes are nice and big so come with an appetite. It's usually fairly busy but the staff and fast, thoughtful and so sweet. If you're lucky Gallardo walks around and gives you a handshake and greets you. The menudo is a must try, if you've got a hangover it's the cure. I always go for the divorced eggs, or nopales and eggs.

Owned by a good family, come and try their food. And if they don't have it on the menu, they can make it. JR gave amazing service and hospitality. And they even hosted a live singer when I was there, great ambience to get your day/weekend started. Saludos, enjoy

Ok this has got to be one of the best tasting Mexican spots in sf and the mission! Yes I said it. Their salsa is on point with a slight garlic hint and their burritos are mouth watering. Service is friendly and super casual vibe. Note that it is cash only, but they have an atm on site.

Best pozole I've ever had. So fresh. Broth has depth of flavor; a lot of pork, fresh veggies; crisp tortillas; sour cream. Super nice staff. Clean.

So I was taken here by a coworker ,, never even heard of the place prior . The Good , Food was excellent, everything was fresh , salsa was hot but had a good flavor , the burrito was packed with meat . The breakfast plate was also fantastic, came with home made corn tortillas. Service was fast and friendly, always smiling and made us feel welcome . The Bad , only thing that was not so great was the chips were stale , but that's an easy fix . If I'm in the area I will definitely give them a visit .

Gallardo's Mexican Restaurant has been a family staple for us, and it never disappoints. No matter what you order, the food is always fresh and delicious. My personal favorite is the braised beef with consume which is birria horneada is absolutely incredible, especially paired with the fresh corn tortillas made to order. Every visit is consistently a great experience. You won't be disappointed! Get there early or else you'll have to wait.

CASH ONLY!!!! (but they do have an ATM in the back). A cozy establishment with friendly staff and very quick service! Though their menu had ample choice, I opted for the steak quesadilla ($10.50), a baby pozole ($8), and my friend got a chicken and a pork taco (each $6.50). Chips and salsa are complimentary as well! But beware, unless you eat fire for breakfast, the salsa is SPICY!!!! The entree dishes were delicious, super filling, and very generous with the meat portioning!! The guacamole was homemade, and the pozole was light yet flavorful. I will be back!

Once again, and every time, Gallardos!!! Following up my last review, not just me, everyone I take there is completely thrilled by the whole experience. Yes, the food is outstanding. The plus plus is how friendly and receptive is the staff is to providing an effortless memorable experience. Juan, the head chef, always goes out of his way to personalize our visit. Can't say enough great things. If Mexican food and smiles are your thing, head to Gallardos.

Easily one of my favourite breakfast spots for Mexican food in the city! its hard to find a delicious Chile verde that compares to what ive had in Texas and SoCal but this place does the job so well. it was super busy on Saturday when I went, id recommend any other morning during the week. its a no nonsense Mexican restaurant so you dont get a bunch of frill or decor but what they do have is good cooks

I love this place I've been coming here since I was a kid. I finally went back to this place today. I sat outside in their patio area. I mainly came for their Birria since it's made the most traditional to the Birria in Mexico. They did not disappoint. It comes with consomé (broth) , onions cilantro and lime, and homemade tortillas. My chilaquiles were yummy but the plate was warm and not hot like it was sitting on the window for a bit. I also ordered orange juice and I was expecting fresh orange juice and it wasn't. But service was wonderful staff is very nice. To me it's like eating at my family's house. Also PSA; CASH ONLY.

Open early for breakfast but they have the entire menu which was a nice surprise! Ordered the veggie burrito. They ran out of black beans so did pinto beans. The real highlight was the salsa - tasted really fresh and had a strong kick. Fried got a huge dish of saucy eggs.

Their salsa is excellent. Just spicy enough and a hint of no sé qué: oregano maybe?

It was just so lovely to eat in a restaurant, I've been doing taquerías to go, snarfing a burrito hunched over in my car like a raccoon in a dumpster. Gallardos has extensive outdoor seating, there are about as many tables outside as in, which was a big plus to me. Excellent service in a bustling brunchtime atmosphere. Fast, courteous, thorough, and bilingual. The Vampiro fresh juice is fresh and rich with vegetables -- such a healthy option. Chilaquiles are as good as everyone says. I had my eggs ever easy, they were happy to oblige. One thing I do when eating good Mexican is order an extra burrito and take it home for another day, here I got chile verde and the seasoning was on point. I also want to highlight their homemade salsa, it's just the right amount of heat, and I couldn't tell all the ingredients, maybe a touch of garlic and some herbs -- oregano maybe? So tasty. Note; They are CASH ONLY There's only one restroom, unisex, expect a wait.

View from the inside. Mariachi band had just left.

First time there today. Easily one of the best Mexican meals I have had in 29 years in SF and ever. The reason? Autentico. Everything they do is fresh and packed with flavor. I asked what was popular and she said carnitas so I went with that. It came out quickly. I was surprised upon my initial inspection of the dish how it didn't appear to be greasy or fatty which most carnitas are. That assessment stood up; I did not get one mouthful of fat the entire meal, which I am very particular about for some reason (a little is ok but a mouthful is disgusting). It is all trimmed from the pork here and it's seasoned and cooked to perfection. Before that I enjoyed my chips and salsa. I asked if they have salsa verde before I tried the house roja. After tasting the house salsa I knew I'd be content with that. Red salsa is usually bland and overly watery. Not this one. I cannot believe the heat level on this - it's mild habanero hot. I loved it but can't believe the masses can enjoy it at that heat level. With my carnitas came a bowl of the salsa verde stew. She must have thought that's what I meant but I was thrilled to have it. The flavor profile of that green chili is perfect. The bitterness of the tomatillos marries into the saltiness of the pork perfectly. I scooped spoonfulls of that over my carnitas in my self made tacos I was making with the fresh tortillas and let me tell you - that's about as good as it gets, especially with the fresh sliced jalapenos, cilantros and onion. The owner Juan stopped by which a huge smile and welcomed me, chatted me up for a bit and wanted to know if I liked it. Such a nice touch. I can see why this would be a family and fan favorite in the Mission. It's solidly on my list of top places now and I am looking forward to my next visit. Did I mention the menu is huge? Huge! This place is IT!!

We came early, and I'm glad we did because the line started forming about 30 minutes before opening. By the time they opened, it was already around the corner. The place has an authentic Mexico feel, from the look of the restaurant to the smells coming from the kitchen. The staff were incredible, but one of my favorite parts was being able to watch the whole process right in front of me. It definitely build up my appetite. I ordered two tacos de asada, and honestly, two were more than enough. These tacos were big and packed with meat. They do things a little differently here they used pico de gallo instead of the usual onion and cilantro. I asked them to add the onion and cilantro anyway, and when they came out, I was impressed. The steak was tender, juicy, and had a flavor I honestly hadn't experienced in a taco before. It had this deep, savory, smoky taste that felt completely different from the tacos I'm used to getting in Chicago. The meat itself was so well seasoned that it could easily stand on its own. The freshness from the pico balanced the richness of the steak, while the salsa brought a nice kick that stayed with you after every bite. Simple, but so much flavor packed into each taco. I'm really glad I finally got the chance to try La Taqueria.

They have a hostess with a podium just outside the door taking orders. We ordered and indicated that we wanted to eat in, in which case we continued to wait to be seated. They have someone in charge of seating people as well (much needed). This place is apparently a landmark. Old fashioned, fast paced, efficient, small, authentic, mostly delicious! Tried several of their tacos, the chicken quesadilla and a burrito. The burrito was delightful. Plenty of steak but still balanced and fresh. The steak tacos are also meaty and good. The meat is well seasoned and, being authentic, it is allowed to be the prominent ingredient. I would similarly describe the chicken and even the beef tongue tacos. What I loved the most, however, was the beef head taco. Immense and incredible flavor beefy flavor, not to mention that moat restaurants wouldn't dare having it on the menu. By far the best taco I've ever had. If I get the chance to visit La Taqueria again that's all I want to eat. Unfortunately there were also two items that I found to be disappointing. One was the quesadilla. Even though the chicken is good it was very greasy. The other was the pork taco. Didn't love the flavor and, again, a bit on the fatty side for me, which is not often my opinion on a pork dish. All in all, if you want to experience authentic tacos, go here. And... live a little! Order the beef head taco.
