Came here with a group of friends after one of the friend's grad improv show over the weekend. I ordered two carne asada street tacos with just cilantro and onions - my default. The tacos were rather pricey at over $11 for a couple, but that's inflation for ya. I thought they tasted just okay. They were loaded with meat, so much so that I had to grab a fork to eat some before scooping up each taco to eat with my hands, but the meat wasn't super high quality and didn't have much flavor. The tortillas were pretty mid, dried-out, white corn, store-bought circles without a nice warm springy homemade chew, but that's kind of standard and unsurprising for the area. I'm not exactly sure what makes it delicious but this place is really good. The carne asada is noticeably better than your typical taqueria. Its very soft and melty. Its definitely different from La Taqueria and if you can't eat there this is a great alternative with less of a crowd. read more

I haven't been to this place in awhile. It still is a great place to eat. The service is fast. You have to place an order at the counter. There is no waiters, but they are very efficient here. It's a simple taqueria but for $20 I got chips, Fresca, & a super shrimp burrito made hot + fresh with any choice of beans (black beans is my favorite). The decorations is what you would expect from an average Taqueria. This place is clean what I mean by clean is nothing sits on the floor and there is a bathroom for customers. My bf ordered a vegetarian burrito with no rice 2 weeks ago. I took a bite of it and there was a hard crunch that almost broke my teeth! I spit it out and it's a fuckin rock! I called that evening and the cashier said to call the manager/owner the next morning, but no one picked up. I called later and no one was in so I told them to contact me. No calls whatsoever. This is the worst business I've ever had in contact with. Their customer service and food has gone to shit. I will never support their business again. Be fair warned. Growing up in SoCal near so much good Mexican food, I was so happy when I tried Taqueria Cancun following a friend's recommendation. I had the Super Burrito with Carne Asada, and the portion size was SO filling and yummy! On a chilly day, Taqueria Cancun's burrito just hit the spot. The ingredients felt fresh, and I would definitely recommend this place as a great SF spot for Mexican food. The interior was very festive in my opinion, and I loved the vibrant colors. DEFINITION of a Mission burrito IMO. Tbh I find one of its many competitors, El Farolito, disgusting. San Jose, El Toro and Pancho Villa -- not as bad but also. Cancun strikes the right balance of being a late night exuberance, while still being culinarily defensible. If you're 20 years old, it's a totally valid dinner option also. But I'm twice that so uuuuusualy I go to The Little Chihuahua, Papalote, or some others. read more

I was just walking past and was really hungry so I stopped in here. I got a quesadilla suiza which was super decadent. The place is a bit more expensive than some of the other taquerias in the Mission, but they do give a lot of food. I couldn't finish the quesadilla and they also have chips. Yum! Great place to go to when the lines at el faro or la taq are too long. Everything is made fresh to order and I love their carne asada and carnitas. Interior is a cool tiled yellow and there are Mexican decorations all around. When I'm working in the city I like coming here for lunch but parking can be tough. I do love how they wrap everything in foil so it stays warm. The chips and salsa are OK but they are free so you can't really complain that much. read more

Walked here from my house on a Friday night craving a burrito. Taqueria Cancun is a classic no frills Taqueria that won't be as busy as Farlitto or La Taqueria. Had a Carne Asada Super Burrito ($14) which is a little more expensive than some of the spots in the heart of the mission. Burrito was made fresh and was quite filling. Good combination of beans, sour cream and avacado in it. Service was pretty solid and efficient. As many fellow reviewers have stated, their tortilla chips taste like they were bought at the Big Lots down the street which is disappointing. If going store bought at least get the blue corn tortillas from Trader Joes. Otherwise solid burrito if you don't want to venture deeper into Mission read more

I was in the Mission on a rainy day and committed to returning if parking was readily available and it was! I had my usual regular chicken burrito and it was good. Thirteen dollars! I don't know if that is right or wrong but house made chips and a bit more salsa would have been appreciated for that price. They really do make the best vegetarian burritos in town at Taqueria Cancun, and this location is by far my favorite of the three.

Three stars for the burrito, five stars for the service. Perhaps I should weight the food more heavily, but I'm not going to round down during a pandemic. Location, convenience and safety are the real upsides for Taqueria Cancun at Valencia and Mission. They take cards now, so everything is nearly contactless. Staff is marked and gloved, hand sanitizer is available, all the COVID era stuff. My carne asada super burrito came out super fast, and was thoughtfully packaged with burrito, chips, two kinds of salsa, and napkins in one bag so I could get out in a hurry. The burrito itself was okay. The tortilla was fresh and flakey, meat was plentiful, and avocado chunks were decent size. The overall flavor was kind of salty and bland though, with none of the pop I expect from a Mission burrito. Little pieces of cilantro, onion, and the aforementioned avocado did shine brightly from time to time, but didn't stand much of a chance against the overwhelming blahness of riceq, beans, and carne. CASH ONLY A wonderful taqueria in the heart of the Mission. It's cash only and from my experience these are the places in San Francisco that know they are not losing business by being so. They're recently remodeled! There's now bright yellow walls and colorful traditional flags lining the ceiling. There's a couple communal tables that would comfortably seat six, a couple booths, and some two-seaters. A clean, and fun face-lift T. Cancun!!! I'm ALWAYS blown away at how scrumptious the food is. This past time I got a chicken taco, which was juicy and delicious. But previously I've gotten the shrimp burrito special, and a classic carne asada burrito. I never believed the SF Doom Loop was real until a veggie burrito and a large horchata at Tacqueria Cancun ran me over $24 with Tip ......and SUCKED. Seriously, It's Cancun. The ABSOLUTE King of the Veggie burrito for the thirty+ years I've lived in SF. Hands down. It's the perfection of the old school mission style Burrito: the meltiness of the cheese, the warmed whole beans, the ( admittedly chicken stock) rice and then the buttery-ness of the Avocado, and the great hot sauce. On my most recent visist the only thing on point was ONE of the two hot sauces: the red one was flavorless and watery, the green one good as always. The Horchata was also good. The Burrito, however, took and inordinate ( for cancun) time to come out, and when it did it was misshapen and oddly....long. Maybe a little smaller than usual, and that's okay it's usually a really massive endeavor best split between two people..... but it committed the ABSOLUTE CARDINAL SIN OF THE NATIONAL FOOD OF SAN FRANCISCO: when you're served a burrito an one side is ice cold, and the other is warm. WTF Cancun? If there was avocado in this burrito, It didn't register, there was as another reviewer notated, also some sort of hard rock or gristle in the burrito, most likely a piece of chicken bone from the Rice I spit out. It's the first time in memory I couldn't even finish it and threw the rest out, this Burrito was NOT GOOD....and that doesn't work whern it's at a price point where I could actually get a plate and silverware somewhere else. Been going to Cancun for so long, I can't totally write the place off, it's been so consistent for so long, but also used to be an inexpensive meal option.........(the prices here on Yelp are so far from their current menu): so we're taking a break. Any Mexican restaurant/taqueria that uses store bought tortilla chips is automatically going to be two starts (possibly one) in my book. The complimentary chips they gave us were very obviously store bought and just tasted so stale. We didn't even finish it and usually I'm picking at the tortilla bowl until the last chip! S/O ordered their burrito mojado. The burrito is twice the size of their regular burrito dripping with red and green sauce. The taste? S/O says it's bland and only full of rice. He even picked through his burrito to show me. I ordered their regular carne asada burrito. It was also big and surprisingly had more meat in it. I liked it although I was pretty disappointed that they didn't have salsa available in squeeze bottles. I had to ask for sauce and were given 2 extra in tiny plastic containers. Definitely would come here on a late night food. The portions are big and very filling. I got the carne asada nachos, it was a bit soggy but there was a great amount of meat and had all the necessary toppings. It's a self self area but the food comes out relatively fast. I thought overall this place was pretty good. I went here once a long time ago to use their bathroom and bought a horchata so I didn't seem like a random just using their bathroom. Horchata was pretty good, nice flavor, prolly a lil more cinnamon would perfect it. If you eat there, you get complementary chips and salsa. The red salsa was just ok, but I liked the green one. Chips were normal, nothing special. I got a carne asada burrito and it was good, the ingredients were well mixed and it was pretty large of a burrito. I stopped by Taqueria Cancun at around 10pm and although the tables were full there was no line which I appreciated, allowing us to order and receive our food very quickly. Right as I ordered I was handed a basket of chips and salsa. The salsa was very spicy but good and I loved that they included it with our meal! I asked the cashier if chicken or steak was better and he recommended the chicken. I'm SO glad I ordered it with the chicken because the grilled chicken was delicious and definitely added so much great flavor to my food. I'm sometimes skeptical about taqueria chicken, especially when its shredded so I was extra appreciative that it was grilled and came in big pieces. I ordered the super burrito (with chicken, as mentioned) and it really so delicious. It was a great size and left me very full. Felt like having a quesadilla so the bf and I came here. Not sure it quite hit the spot but it was enough to sate my craving. I experimented and decided to get my quesadilla with cabeza which turned out ok. My quesadilla came in a different form than I expected so it got a little drippy near the end esp as I tried not to squeeze out the innards. A satisfactory quesadilla although afterwards I did feel like I was burping up quesadilla for a bit. The bf got tacos with al pastor and lengua. He's been on a taco kick ever since our Mexico City trip. (I have been a little bit too but tonight I really wanted melty cheese.) I had stopped by here one day when I was heading through this borough and back to where I was staying at the time attempting to try a new restaurant before reaching my final destination. The place was packed which made me a little hesitant but after being able to sit and taste the food that was prepared I saw why. The restaurant itself has a very "hometown" feel and the food is prepared in a way that feels authentic in very fashion. The time from ordering to completion was pretty low and the chips and salsa were absolutely delicious. The main course was everything I expected flavors were off the charts! Definitely a place I will visit again thanks again. Overall this place is a great place to go if you're of African decent. Your money is always good here for sure. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area so this location was definitely refreshing...However!
