It's really sad how far this restaurant has gone downhill in the past year. It's not only my wife's and my opinion, but also that of many of our friends. What used to be a stand-by neighborhood restaurant with always good food and service doesn't remotely resemble its former self. The service is invariably terrible--waiting 30 minutes to get a cocktail is the new norm, not the exception. They don't have a service bartender and the bartenders behind the bar are doing it all. Even sitting at the bar doesn't improve things, as all you ever hear is, "I'll be right there." 15 minutes later no one has come back. The food is now borderline edible--the chicken parmigiana, once one of their best dishes, is now nothing more than two overcooked bricks of dry, tasteless chicken, with literally one piece of store bought mozzarella on each breast. This is obvious b/c you can see the full outline of each individual piece. Even the pasta that comes with the dish it is dry as sand. All I can think is that the chicken is pre-cooked and simply heated up with the pathetic slice of mozzarella. The gnocchi Bolognese is lathered in so much salty sauce that you can barely find the gnochhi. The mushroom risotto was a gloppy, brown mess that was so congealed you could basically pick up the entire contents dipping your fork once. The salmon, also an old standby, was so overly salted and overcooked that it was inedible. We are done trying to make excuses for the restaurant by continually saying "Everyone has an off night." On this first visit I went with a cocktail and found the Pineapple-tini to be a winner. My partner's pears e Prosecco was also pretty good. We started with calamari and the pear and gorgonzola salad which were both great. For entreés we ordered the Penne alla Vodka w/ chicken and Penne all'Arrabiata w/ shrimp. I was not a fan of the all'Arrabiata. It had the right amount of spice but the tomato sauce otherwise lacked flavor along with the the shrimp. The Penne Alla Vodka was delicious and well seasoned. I went to Galliano for brunch yesterday with a friend. We went around noon so I was expecting for the place to be packed and we'd have to wait for a table. I was surprised it was completely empty when we got there. We got seated quickly and our waitress was really helpful and kind. We ordered the arancini balls as an appetizer and they were okay. They were a little too tomato-y for my taste, but you might love them. I ordered the Chesapeake Benedict and it was just okay too. There was barely any crab and though I do like my eggs a little runny, these were way undercooked. My friend ordered the Il Leione and she said she liked it - it looked good! The restaurant was pretty empty for the whole visit but when a family came in, they sat them at the table right next to ours. There was a 6 ft distance between the tables, but with the restaurant being so empty, they could have easily seated them further away for added safety. They have outdoor seating as well. We were seated indoors however the patio door was open, so it was chillier than I expected to be. Food: It's alright but not memorable. We had a family celebration there last night. Our food took at least 45 minutes to come out. These were entrees only, as we didn't order appetizers. No one ever came by to check in or explain the delay. Eventually I was able to flag down our server and ask about this, and he said they had a large party in the back. I can appreciate that challenge, but we had a reservation and staffing didn't seem to be limited when we were there. The ambiance was nice, but the service and food didn't measure up to the quality expected given Galliano's prices. Gnocchi rosé were meh, and the kids' mac and cheese was poor. I appreciate them making a pork-less carbonara, which is hard to judge since I haven't had it before. It was fine. Within 15 minutes of setting our plates down, the server started busing the table and offering leftover boxes. If they needed to turn the table over (unlikely given how many were vacant on a Sunday night), they could talk with the kitchen during the 45-60 min. between ordering and serving five dishes. To rush us so quickly seemed very bizarre. If you head there for a birthday celebration, be aware that they don't comp the birthday dessert (I got a different impression when I called to make the reservation). The ricotta cheesecake was gritty/grainy to all who tasted it. It and other desserts were quite small at $11 a pop. Our party was disappointed. We stopped in for Brunch and the Manager Mo allowed us to order off the Lunch Menu. I'm a huge Chicken Parm Fan and it was not on the Brunch Menu. They did everything to accommodate us. My Wife is also a Gnocci Fan and they made that as well. The Gnocci (9/10) is made in-house and you can definitely taste the love in this dish. The Chicken Parm (7/10) was above average no surprises. They offer a 50% off Happy Hour 3-6 weekly menu and we can't wait to come back. They also have Live Music & Outdoor seating. However, the hostess wanted to seat us at a tiny table in what appear to be a hallway toward restrooms. I asked for a larger table and was told that they were all reserved for a party of 3 or more. With majority of tables open, she still set me at a table in the very back corner. I went in by myself first while my husband came in a little after I was seated. I'm an Asian and my husband is white. My husband was surprised when he came in that our table was so far back in the corner with so many empty tables in front section of the restaurant. I asked him to just sit down and don't ask to change the seating. We spent over $150 for 2 Ceaser salads, 2 pasta dishes, 1 meatball appetizer, 2 glasses of wine & 1 dessert. When we left at 6:15 pm, there were still many tables that were open. Food was average and bread was hard & olive oil tased stale. Sadly, it wasn't a good experience. Shoutout to our local community heroes! I noticed this venue while I was on the way to my doctor appointment in Maple Lawn. I have been looking for a quality Italian restaurant in my area and was pleasantly surprised to see this hidden gem! I went to pick up the hubby after work and said that we MUST go sample the goods! We were not deterred but the approaching rain storm. There's tons of close parking in the back lot of the building if you don't get one in front. The area is safe and pristine! There's outside patio seating as well, with warming torch lights if needed. The inside gives a cool modern vibe with a gorgeous bar to the left and more intimate table seating to right dining areas. The music is current and not the old school Italian classics that I am used to. Different but more hip for the crowd. Good spacing between tables. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Clean lines and open concept. Each table has a decanter of quality olive oil (yummy with the warm bread basket). Our Galliano ambassador today was Ms Lisa. She was warm, attentive, friendly, interactive, and personable. She was nice enough to say she would stagger our meal out so that everything didn't come all at once. Yay!!! We started of with a high end pour of Blanton's on the rocks. Hubby tried their old fashioned which he confirmed was on point. I also had to get coffee, since I skipped due to my appointment. It was perfect. I ordered the clams and mussels in the wine sauce!!!! I could have dank the broth! Soooo savory! The Galliano market platter was well balanced with rich cheeses, decadent meats, and sides of fruits & jam! Hubby ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. He was happy to hear that he could have his favorite Angel hair pasta. This meatball is a softball size of savory perfection! Texture, flavor, and density is stuff of legends! And I had the Pappardelle Bolognese! Housemade pasta! It was a my gluten cheat day intake for the week today. But so worth it! Always good to start with the positive: the food was delicious. We had a 5:30 reservation for 8 people ( 2 babies) outside on a Thursday. The reservation had been made 2 weeks in advance. We arrived on time. The hostess sat us promptly, brought high chair/booster seat and then just left. No menus to peruse, no water came to the table. After about 20 minutes I went to the hostess stand to tell her that no one had come by our table yet and could we get some menus. The idea being that we could decide on our food and if they were that busy we could get our order ready so multiple trips back would not be necessary. Finally we met Kat, our server. She brought water and took our drink orders, but did not wait for us to put in appetizers. I asked for some bread to keep the babies busy and she said she would see if there was any "pizza bread" available and if not ask them to make some. I never found out, because it never came. The drinks came, we put in appetizers and our meals, because we didn't want to risk a long wait for her return. We had quite an assortment, from Fettucine Alfredo, to Branzino and Grilled Octopus. One of our party is vegan, so we ordered some appetizers that she could eat. We asked for crispy Brussels sprouts without goat cheese, and it looked like the cheese had been picked off after the fact because someone forgot and automatically added it. There is an eggplant meatball on the menu that comes topped with parmesan, which seemed counter-intuitive. But then we didn't really want to slow down the process by asking too many questions as we ordered and the menu doesn't say whether something is vegan/vegetarian, just indicates gluten-free. The Vegan Delight did not have mushrooms or asparagus as the menu indicated it would and we were not informed that there would be substitutions. The appetizers were brought to the table at 6:45. An hour and 15 minutes from when we were seated. It's a good thing the babies are extremely well behaved. Can you imagine a 2 year old sitting that long with just water? I took him off to run around a bit while we waited for our meals, which took another 30 minutes. By the time we left it was after 8. At one point the manager came by the table and my husband engaged him in conversation. I had seen him in the restaurant throughout the evening, but I did not see him helping any of the wait staff. In my experience with restaurants, if a venue is busy, everyone chips in to keep things rolling for the diner. This did not appear to be the case. Kat was pretty much on her own, except when the food was brought to the table. It's unfortunate. We had high hopes for this restaurant. When we eat out as a family we choose a restaurant for locale and whether it has vegan food on the menu (yes, most places will make modifications, but it's just easier and a better sign of the times if vegan items are already on the menu). We know we are high maintenance with babies and 6 adults who ask questions so we are always patient and tip well. This experience at Galliano's was very weird. Although I have enjoyed eating at Gallianos restaurant in the past, I cannot review service nor ambiance this time. My meal was a carryout and brought to me. Unfortunately, I did not get the meal I ordered prepared as described in the menu. Linguine Michaelangelo is described as having shrimp, scallops, clams, oven-dried tomatoes, baby arugula and crab meat. The meal overall tasted good. However, what I'd like to know is what is the explanation for adding mussels that were not indicated as a part of the meal and had a larger count than there was any of the rest of the items that were supposed to be on that plate. I'm still looking for the arugula. Was that a menu mistake or a shortage of the listed shellfish? Or was it just a way to keep from plating a reasonable amount of shrimp and/or crab meat? Did you really think that people would not know the difference between mussels and shrimp or mussels and clams? These are trying times for all of us. Restaurants have been hit hard so it could almost be understandable if the reason for smaller portions is to save a little. From the consumers' standpoint though, we still want a good value for our dollar. A suggestion for the linguine and clam sauce: do away with the clam shells. I will trust you that the clams are fresh. This will enable you to put more clams in the entrée. From what I have been able to see, they have been doing a fine job maintaining Covid regulations. We hit Galliano's outdoor patio last night with our party of 5 (+2 dogs, yes they're dog friendly). We got the charcuterie board to split, got a bunch of drinks, and then did family style with some pizza, pastas and salads. Great energy from the staff and other guests! The grandma pie was my favorite (same with the whole table) with the lobster ravioli being a close second. My only real issues came with the carbonara (oddly sweet) and the music choice.. the music reminded me of outer space (I know, weird) and was just super synthy the whole time.. BUT with all that being said, the shining star of our night was Cat, our server. She is so incredibly kind, attentive, and really made us feel special last night. We did have an incident once with a bar tender called Edwin, he is rude and made a mistake on our bill and got aggressive when we called him on on it. Hopefully he doesn't stick around for too long. I really love this place. The food is delicious and the wine selection is excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The music is eclectic and my Shazam is always on because of the new tunes to discover. There are also large TVs around the bar area showing news or sports. Additionally, the bar has 15 amp and USB outlets to charge your devices. If there is anything that something may find a negative, it would be portions sizes in proportion to the prices. The ingredients, especially the seafood dishes, are fresh, pastas cooked just right, and sauces have good flavor. However, I would say the prices are 20%-40% above other places for the serving size, especially for salads and appetizers. Like the neighboring Ranazul up the street, you're paying for the decor, atmosphere, and location. Depending on your budget and spending habits, YYMV. I've driven by Galliano many times now and I've been dying to try it. The Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar opened up in the midst of COVID and seems to be doing well for itself since. My girlfriend and I went in on a Sunday evening for sunset dinner on the patio -- nice and airy with brand new furniture and good background music. The patio does a decent job of making you feel away from the roadside and it's the place to sit. The interior seemed nice but it was nothing special. Overall, the food was okay, not bad not great. The service was underwhelming and it's easy to tell that the staff have a way to go. I'm definitely going to try it again and hope that the restaurant capitalizes on its potential improvements. Read on: What I Liked: Mozzarella Caprese (4/5) - The homemade mozzarella is pretty good and it's a refreshing appetizer on a summer day. The tomatoes were fleshy and flavorful, all drizzled with olive oil and balsamic. Ravioli di Aragosta (4/5) - The real star of this lobster ravioli dish is the sauce. The saffron cream sauce is velvety and rich, with just the right consistency to drape the raviolis. Order this, it'll have you licking the plate. Tiramisu (3.5/5) - A real Italian restaurant should kill it with their tiramisu and Galliano gives it a decent shot. The tiramisu is sweet and decadent, topped with strawberries and a sprig of mint. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Pertinace, Barbera d' Alba Wine (3.6/5) - A good heavy wine to go with pasta and game-heavy dishes. It has a clean, fruit-forward nose with a slightly dry finish. Let it air out for a bit to really open it up. Would order again. Castello di Monsanto Toscanna Monrosso (3.5/5) - A lighter body wine that's tannic and balanced. It has great upfront flavors but they do not last, there's no secondary profile. Would order again, but it's not worth the price. What I Didn't Like: Chicken Parm (3/5) - Another classic Italian staple that defines a restaurant's quality. This dish wasn't bad per se, but it was absurdly average. Parts of it were hot, other parts were almost cold. The chicken lacked any real flavor and the tomato-based sauce had no uniqueness to it. None of the dish's ingredients contributed any real depth to the dish. Bourbon Bramble Cocktail (3/5) - A forgettable cocktail if there was any. It has no real identity and you can hardly tell there was any bourbon in there. Wishful Thinking Cocktail (2/5) - This drink sounded great on paper but fell apart with each sip. The gin is far too overpowering and drowns out the prosecco and berry flavors when paired with the Elderflower and mint. There's just too much going on. COVID Precautions - All employees were wearing masks and patio tables were spaced out with a ton of distance. The menus were not disposable though and didn't seem sanitized (I could be wrong about the latter). I didn't see tables being sanitized/wiped down after each group left. It would have been nice if sanitizer/wipes were offered for diners as well. So the offerings were a bit all over the place, my meal experience lacked consistency. What really threw off the experience was the service. It wasn't a particularly busy night but our server was clearly in a rush the entire time and paid 0 attention to our table. Our drinks came out almost 20 minutes after we ordered them once we asked where they were. Our main entrees took another 25 minutes even though we ordered them from the get-go. Since the cocktails let us down, we decided to order a couple glasses of wine which came out after our dessert. Paying higher prices for the cuisine and drinks means that the overall experience should come with outstanding service and that just wasn't the case. I'm rooting for Galliano-- the place has a ton of promise and I hope that it lives up to the opportunity in front of it. It's had a lukewarm reception in the local community so far, but I recommend checking it out and being open with the novice restaurant on what could be better. read more
