Waited in line for 30 minutes to be told at the window they are out of chicken. Would have appreciated a sign that said out of chicken because that is a big part of the menu. Then asked if they could add queso fresco to my beef quesadilla and was told they are unable to do that when I see them spreading queso fresco on the tacos in the back. They weren't labelled so we each took some chances, but they were meaty (or mushroomy), decently packed with toppings, and easy to handle with not much mess. The chips and queso was a great portion, so much that some of us ended up dipping tacos in the queso because why not. The street corn came loaded with cheese and spices. There were 6 of us and we were all filled for lunch. We luckily got a table nearby with an umbrella, but good seating will be a bit hit or miss. First time trying Gallito at Sparkman Wharf! If you've been to SW you know there are several food options but the great thing is you can try a little bit of everything! At least that's what my fiancé and I did. From Gallito I ordered the quesabirria chili braised beef tacos stuffed with queso, onions, cilantro and griddled crisp. Served with a side of chili beef consomme for dipping. I have to say that as a self proclaimed taco connoisseur I was quite impressed! The only thing I asked for and added was lime! It was the finishing touch because the consommé was a tad bit salty for me! Service was great and prompt! They have quite a selection of food and drinks (jarritos, beer, sangria etc..) as well. I am a huge nacho fan so I couldn't resist ordering the nachos with ground beef, although I asked for no beans. The person taking the orders was very efficient. It was Taco Tuesday so they were fairly busy, but the wait wasn't long at all. The nachos were very good. The spicy salsa added so much flavor as did the queso. Found myself back in Sparkman's Wharf for yet another yelp elite event and wanted to grab something of sustenance other than chocolate. I ran into this place and saw that they had the quesabirria tacos (not sure if I'm spelling this right). The thing is I've been dying to try this style of taco which has been featured on alot of food trend sites for the last couple of months. So...when I got the opportunity, I just had to get take it. I placed in my order for one, which consists of two tacos with dipping sauce (or some kind of broth). Coulda had two orders, which would have given me a total of four, but I digress... Quesabirria, as I understand it, is meat that's been deep fried in its fat, then the whole taco is deep fried as well with cheese, along with the corn taco shell, and you get a soup/dipping sauce/broth to dip it in. Now normally I do not like corn taco shells because it's hard, but lemme tell you...between the sauce, the meat, and the cheese all blended together in melty, cheesy, tasty harmony, my tongue and palate were on cloud 9. I enjoyed dipping the tacos thoroughly into the flavored sauce until its soft. The meat itself was incredibly tender and had a good stretchy, ratio of cheese to go along with it. The sauce itself was good, and I actually drank the rest of it like soup since I really didn't know what else to do with it and it was really good. Definitely plan on getting more of these tasty tacos! read more

I've been coming to Gallito for about 7 moths now and every time is better than the last! I am a birria taco fanatic and there's is probable one of the top birria in Tampa. I always get the quesabirria chills braised beef taco with onions cilantro and pineapple jarrito. The grill it to a perfect crips and always are generous with the amount of beef they use. My fiancé and I love coming here whenever we go to sparkman wharf! This is my top favorite when it comes to the food options because they are always consistent. The only thing about them that I wish I could change is their pricing. I paid $3+ for a pineapple soda and they don't offer water just the liquid death water. It was had to figure out how to review and rate Gallito. On one hand, I thought the food was delicious. On the other hand, the food was expensive, and service bordered on clueless. We ordered the quesobirria tacos, the puffy taco, and the churros. Everyone loved the food that we got. The quesobirria was very flavorful and barely needed the consomme, but the tacos themselves were tiny. My husband and son had the puffy taco, and they both thought they were awesome and full of flavor. The churros were well fried, although I thought the dulce de leche was unnecessary and rather throw away (no discernable flavor). Prices were high. The quesobirria tacos were the smallest I've ever seen, certainly not standard size. They were $8 for two, which is significantly higher than I've seen in town. Granted, I know that nothing at Sparkman Wharf is a bargain, and Rooster & the TIll is not cheap. But that's a lot for what it was. The puffy taco and churros were a better deal, but certainly you're paying a premium for eating here. Service was slow, and the cashier was not very helpful with my husband's questions. read more

Visited this restaurant during a Lightning watch party so it was busy but they were efficient in taking and preparing orders so it was 2-3 minutes in a short line and 5 minutes waiting for food. It was Taco Tuesday so I got the 2 tacos for $6 deal, mojo chicken and the fried mahi. Both were delicious and flavorful. As you might expect with corn tortillas, it can be messy to eat as the tortillas fall apart but it's worth it! I returned later for churros to cap off the evening and they were fantastic + the dipping sauce was a tasty addition too. I'll definitely be back! read more

Why 4 stars? Because the tacos were light and delicious. --- --- --- For anyone else planning on visiting Sparkman Wharf shortly after they open, please expect the vendors to be adjusting to the massive influx of people that's sure to descend upon them. I visited about an hour and a half into day #1 and waited 27 minutes for my tacos from the time I ordered until I had them in my hand, to give you an idea of what you're probably in for. But that kind of time frame is completely understandable as these folks get used to the timing of a live audience. These are the same guys responsible for The Rooster & the Till, so I knew that the quality of these tacos would be high, and they did not disappoint. My only gripe is that they are $4 each and can be scarfed down in a couple of bites. I suppose a bit of an up-charge is to be expected when dealing with something as wildly popular as Sparkman Wharf is about to be, but it still just feels a tad high. When it came to choosing which tacos to order, once I saw that they were pretty small, I opted to go crazy and just order one of each. The star of the show was absolutely the Duck Carnitas. If I were to come back, I would have just ordered four of these and maybe tried out the street corn as a side. If you're checking out Gallito, do yourself a favor and order many Duck Carnitas tacos! The remaining tacos were all very solid, but the duck carnitas definitely stood out from the rest of the pack. The carne asada and pork belly were probably next in line in terms of my favorites, followed by the barbacoa and the chicken. I'd been stalking the Sparkman Wharf social media and planning to visit on day #1 for a while. So many of these vendors look amazing, but after careful consideration, I figured that The Rooster & the Till guys doing tacos should be my first stop and I was not upset with that decision! read more

This place was recommended to me by a friend so I gave it a shot. I was very confused as to why it got such a low rating. Everything came out quick, hot, and fresh! My husband and I usually split dishes when we go to new restaurants so we got a little bit of everything. The quesabirria tacos were delicious!! The corn tortilla shell is crispy with the perfectly flavored beef in the middle. We tried a pork taco, chicken tinga taco, and a carne asada taco. The chicken tinga taco was my FAVORITE! Very flavorful! The carne asada was really good too..wasn't a big fan of the pork taco but I'm not a huge fan of pork anyway. We also got the street corn (not pictured) which was DELICIOUS. Had a little bit of a kick to it but was very good! For the comments about it being frozen corn... this isn't a 5 star restaurant. It's a taco stand at a busy community hang out.. it was overall delicious! We ended with the churros that were soooo good!! Hot fresh and the perfect ending to the meal!
