Went with a buddy. When we visit somewhere, we order different foods and share. He ordered a goat burger and built his own. I ordered a kangaroo burger and did the chef rec. We also got 3 meatballs (duck, boar, and wagyu). And a side of truffle fries. Honestly? Everything was incredible. My favorite meats went in the order of the following: wagyu, kangaroo, goat, boar, duck. But it was all great. There was nothing really worth noting. The food was cooked amazingly. It has amazing flavor. It was moist. Nothing tasted "gamey." If you go with a picky eater who only eats chicken and hamburgers, they would even like this place. It really is for all palates. As well, it is a versatile restaurant, like Hammerheads. Whether you're on a date or just going to have a beer - it's good for any occasion. Limited seating and no call ahead. Yes, I know I'm late, but I finally got the chance to eat at Game. We decided to go for an early dinner (5:45p) so that we would not have a horribly-long wait. Of course, the parking lot was full, but we just parked in a nearby parking lot and walked back to the restaurant (no big deal). Thank goodness we came early. Within 30 minutes of our sitting down, there was a line of people waiting for a seat. Our waitress was very helpful with suggestions and information about the different types of meat that the restaurant offered. Because of her input, I decided upon the Elk burger with sweet potato fries as my side. My companion chose the Kangaroo burger. Although the place was really crowded, the wait for our food was not long at all. While we waited for our food, we watched numerous servers pass us with succulent-looking burgers and sides for other patrons. This just made the anticipation for our food all the more intense. During our wait, I looked around and realized that this location used to be a bicycle shop (and I'm not sure what business was there before the bike shop). I think I like the spot better as a restaurant. The decorations are minimal and very low-key. It seems that the owners/managers put the most effort into the menu (exactly where it should be placed). When our food arrived, I thought I heard the angels in heaven begin to sing. I was mistaken. They were just warming up, but they really began to bellow after I took the first bite into my elk burger. The burger was really good and it exceeded my expectations (from other Yelp reviewers). Though, I was not impressed with the sweet potato fries. They seemed to be a bit overcooked and were served with ketchup and not served with a sweet condiment. I think that sweet potato fries should be served with a sweet condiment and not a salty one. However, the regular fries (from Idaho potatoes) were quite good, though. Although I did not enjoy the sweet potato fires, that will not keep me from returning to sample different types of "Game" burgers. Very easy to get to from Grinstead Dr off of Interstate 64. Parking is severely limited, however, and the restaurant across the street is notorious for having people towed. The menu has an interesting variety of burgers ranging from kangaroo, elk, alpaca to bison, duck and the traditional angus beef. The side items are also unusual...truffle fries were to die for! We celebrated our son's birthday and four of us split a huge smores dessert. Local craft beers are also featured if you choose to imbibe. I have definitely been missing out! This past weekend, hubby and I found out why Game has been so popular for so long. The place is small, casual and chill. I started off with a glass of dry rose and hubby found his favorite wheat beer. I ordered a trio of meatballs: venison, duck and wild boar. I added an order of mac n cheese to complete my meal. I found the wild boar to be my favorite meat of the three. It was porky, yet better in a dark meat kinda way. Venison was also tasty. It is exactly how I remember venison should taste like: beefy with a slight tang. The duck meatball was a bit too gamy even for a duck lover such as me. The mac n cheese was okay, but it did taste better as leftovers the next day. Hubby's Angus burger was a thick, juicy patty but over salted. Although he said the inside of the patty was fine. Our bill was about $45 before tip, not a bad deal. This is a great place to amuse out-of-towners or test a first date's adventurous palate. We will definitely be back. Food and service is good but there are only about 8 or 9 parking spots and all but 2 are parallel parking. Get there early or you'll wait awhile. Very small place with not alot of tables. Tried a bunch of meatballs and the chef's nachos which happened to be elk & chorizo. The nachos were great, you could obviously tell where the chorizo was so it allowed me to find the elk (which I liked since I'd never had elk before). Super tasty and well seasoned. The meatballs were a bit of a letdown. I get that they probably want you to taste the meat and maybe that's why there's little to no seasoning on it but they were also cooked super well done so the kangaroo and the antelope were very dry and very bland, especially the antelope. The boar fared better, basically tasted like an even fattier sweet italian sausage. We saw other tables order the marrow and should we return, I would definitely get that as it looked delicious and everyone who ordered it seemed to highly enjoy it. The parking area is limited, but there's lots around the restaurant that are convenient. They're practicing social distancing also in & outside. The staff was very nice, and accommodating. There's very few parking spots around the building, but you can park past the August Moon restaurant next door, where it's not specifically marked for August Moon customers. I'd actually go to that lot first since there were tons of spaces rather than circle around the few spots in front of Game. There are two areas to sit down: indoors and an outdoor covered patio. You still have to come inside to be seated by the host. Not a big place, but there were ample places to sit at 6PM on a Friday (winter) night. There's lots of great stuff to eat on the side, but as our waitress warned, getting meatballs and a burger will be very heavy on the protein side. Next time, I might want to change it up with a light, refreshing side. Everything came out piping hot and if you're indecisive about what to choose in terms of meat, trying a sample meatball helps. I figured out that I liked alpaca the best. Bison and elk were similar and not too gamey. Wild boar seemed to be the juiciest. If you're not a fan of gamey meat, using the exotic meats as burgers gives you a more mild experience. I'm not a lover of gamey meat, but everything still worked out to be within my tasting perimeters. What a win!! I appreciated the down-home atmosphere and highly personable wait staff. Then there were the burgers, oh my goodness, the burgers!! Our group tried the elk, kangaroo and angus and all three were a hit! The basket of truffle fries easily fed the four of us and made our mouths water. We were all quite full after our burgers and fries but we couldn't leave without splitting the smore's desert, which was a little piece of heaven on Earth! It was a yummy, gooy, nutella, marshmellow, chocolate delight between house-made graham crackers! Luckily we ordered only one to split between 4 of us, as it was HUGE! The only thing that could have made the evening better would have been better parking. Nice place to try some interesting burgers! They had fantastic burgers (I had bison and my boyfriend had kangaroo) - we both really enjoyed them. Their fries though (add that duck fat AND truffle oil) were delicious!!!!! So glad we added the duck fat and truffle. We also had the bone marrow which was good too. They weren't busy at all when we came in yet service was lackluster and they brought our bone marrow (our starter) out after our burgers which was annoying. The wagyu tasted like regular hamburger and the kangaroo was very lean but too dry. I got the Scottish Eggs and pork belly. It was very good, but just not my thing. I wish I would've got the Alpaca burger. My companion ate most of my dinner. He loved it. He got the kangaroo burger since that was his favorite. He absolutely loved it. We also got a basket of fries cooked in duck fat. Oh. My. Goodness! Splendid. I got a side cup of smoked truffle mayo to dip fries in.....please do me a favor and get this next time you get the duck fat fries. It brought the fries to a whole new level. Epic!! 3.5 stars Went with a large group of people. This place is small! They do have a lovely outdoor deck area but it's not insulated. So sadly we froze while waiting for our food. On the plus side the staff is AMAZING. They were great and made sure we had everything we needed. The food: the truffle fries are delicious. Could eat those all day, every day. Yum. I got the veggie burger: it was great. My other friends got all the cute animals in meatball form and liked there food. They liked the food but did not love it. Overall: not good for large groups. This trip earns the removal of 2 stars which is pretty unfortunate considering how much I love Game. Wife and I came during burger week and was extremely displeased to find that you couldn't request no mayo on my burger. I literally detest it, can you scrape it off? Sure, nothing better than a semi soggy mayo reminiscent bun when you hate it. If they were slammed then that would be understandable I guess... mayo covered lettuce, tomatoes.... paid for it to be nice and not just walk out since the entire burger was thrown away. The service was super friendly though and that's one of the things I like most about Game. Won't ever try this again during burger week since you can't request condiment removal during the busy times, but ill give an update the next time we come when friends are in town. First off, let me tell you to make sure you bring a sweater or are comfortable leaving your coat on -- this is set up like your favorite dive bar anywhere in the world (and I've been to them all over the world) and like most good dive bars heat is provided from the drinks and food -- fortunately, my wife and I had warm jackets. This place is BEYOND...beyond what? Well, really about anything I've run across in a long time. So good, I almost didn't leave a review because, to be honest, I'm selfish and I suspect when it gets busy it's a long wait to get a seat (they proudly take no reservations or even calls to check what the seating is like). The food is EXACTLY what they say: Exotic meats -- Tonight's meatball flight (Bryce, the waiter, recommended it when we couldn't decide because we wanted it all), was a dozen meatballs, one of each as follows: Angus, Rabbit, Elk, Dry Aged Beef, Bison, Duck, Ostrich, Kangaroo, Venison, Wagyu, Lamb, and Wild Boar (apparently we missed out on camel by only a week or two...ah well). On top of that, we split a seasonal salad with a hemp vinaigrette which may be my new favorite dressing (and I make my own), and duck fat fried sweet potato fries with its own flight of dips -- three aiolis (garlic, truffle, and bone marrow) and two amazing jams (cranberry/jalapeno and tomato). Now, when a waiter recommends something, I tend to take it with a grain of salt ("Hey Tommy, push the veal!"), BUT he was not only convincing, but he was also gushing...I dig passion, and he was passionate, so we went for it, and there was not a single thing that didn't come as advertised. Cooked to perfection across the board, every flavor well thought out and stacked one after the other. When he said they had a flourless chocolate cake we didn't even question it...it was a slice of the most decedent ganache that has ever graced the inside of a chocolate truffle...but on a platter in full presentation. Let me make a quick comment on the presentation: Most of the meals we saw (and what we had) came out on wooden planks (similar to charcuterie boards). Our water glasses were plastic (ala school cafeteria) and the flatware would have been at home in any diner (functional)...but when we asked for side plates we got Asian-themed china...or at least china plate-like. You can get away with about $20-30 per person if you get a burger, a side and one drink but once you throw in apps and a couple other drinks, it gets expensive pretty quick for burgers. Our server brought us water, and we reviewed a rather extensive drink menu. We both ended up with beers. Then we went to review the food menu. As you can infer from the name, there are all types of "game". So many meats! At the suggestion of our great server, I went with the boar with a pretzel bun. My mom did angus burger. We also each got an order of corn, and we split the sweet potato fries and mac and cheese. (The build your own burger also seemed like fun, but since I was a newbie, I decided I should go with a perfect pairing they already had done on the menu.) We LOVED our food! The boar was game-ier than a typical hamburger, but the goat cheese and cranberry gave it a sweet flavor with it. The pretzel bun was one of the best I've had. All of the sides were amazing. Warning: The corn can get a little mess with the aioli on it, so if you're on a first date... be mindful. LOL. It's worth it though. With so many sides plus the large burgers, we each boxed up at least a third of our dinners. However, since it was my birthday, we ordered the s'more dessert. Oh. Mah. Gah.
