Possibly the best fries in Sac! Their burger isn't bad either. It's solid and a single is a good size. Patty isn't greasy. I got grilled onions instead. Bun is big and soft. I would order no lettuce and no tomato next time. They were a little skimpy and wilty. The single cheeseburger combo was about $20. They have all the old school menu options, like chili dogs, milkshakes, and onion rings. Service was fine. We went inside the tiny dining room to order. There is also a walk up window on the patio, if you don't want to go inside, and of course, the drive-thru window, if you don't mind waiting in line but in your car. Our food took less than 10 minutes. Another 10 minutes passed before we got home and dove into our food Surprisingly, the fries were still hot and crispy!!! I was over at a football game at Hiram Johnson and I was STARVING! I wasn't familiar with the area, and the food options. So when I searched food near me, I really didn't know where to go. However my nonnegotiable was I needed a drive thru lol, I didn't want to have to park and stand and wait. After reading the reviews for village and seeing they had a drive thru, I was sold! I love that they have something for almost everyone (bummed there weren't veggie burger or turkey burger options), and it gives old school drive in vibes. I loved that you can get a mix of fish and nuggets, so that's what I ordered, which also came with fries. Then I also ordered a slush puppy which was such a refreshing drink! Super awesome 50's style burger joint with inside and outside window. As well as inside and outside seating. Imagine a summer evening sitting at the outside tables and getting your meal as the sun is setting. The lights flicker on and you're ready to dig into a delicious burger, thick cut fries, and large strawberry shake w malt. Yuppp that was me just now. Service was good and ordering process was easy. Lots to choose from with individual burgers to full on meal deals. I would give it 5 stars if the patties would have been hand made. Unfortunately, I think this is one of those places I really wanted to like, but it didn't step up to the plate. Like me, it's old school, retro, simple, and welcoming. It's a vibe. Honestly, if this is something you want or are feeling nostalgic for, I would give it a try. I had a simple, double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. The burger is thick and definitely overpowers the condiments. Mind you, I prefer this because I want the burger to do the work. The burger was hearty, but did not lend much flavor and may have been close to "well done." It was a burger experience that required more ketchup or more of their sauce, which barely felt present. The fries were also hearty and soft. I prefer a double fried or, at least, crispier fry, so this brought the experience down a notch for me. If you are seeking a throwback night with the fam and you are in the neighborhood, I would give it a try. I would perhaps try another a fry and ask for extra sauce. The place is a little steep as my meal approached $20 for the experience I got. If the prices reflected those of the old days, perhaps this could be a burger joint I revisit sooner. read more

Village Drive-In has been serving up burgers and fries since the 1950s. It has a classic drive-in, that the looks surprisingly clean and well maintained for its age. The food and service were both good during my visit. I ordered a giant single with cheese for 10.59, and and a 3-piece chicken strip basket for 10.79. My burger came on a nicely toasted bun, had lots of meat, and plenty of fresh produce. It was so big, I had bit of trouble lining my mouth up for the approach. The chicken strips had a nice crispy crust on the outside, but were moist and tender on the inside. My fries were also crisp and cooked to a nice golden brown color. I can't complain about the quality of the food. There's a small dining room inside, more tables outside, and plenty of parking. It's definitely a restaurant I'd visit again. read more

In all the years I've lived in East Sac, and have driven by Village drive-in probably 200 times, I've only stopped in once for a shake (which was yummy!)! This time I ordered dinner. The convenient drive-through was a bonus. I can't believe I never noticed it! The single hamburger was a good portion and delicious, with super fresh ingredients, and the onion rings were cooked to perfection. The Asian one with the one earring in his ear was so rude one out of 10 would not recommend coming back due to the customer service. I believe his name is Alex. It pains me to give this place 3 stars because it was a staple for me growing up. I'd literally be here every day in summer when I was a kid but it's just not the same. The burgers have deflated in size and massively increased in price. The nickel and diming for refills was the main reason for loss of a star too. I get charging for extra sauces but soda refills was a bit much. Overall, the nostalgia of this place just isn't enough to make me come back for their food anymore. This place has been around forever and I think nostalgia is all that is keeping this place alive. They have mid-level food that is definitely not a good value anymore. Prices are insane IMHO. They all wear COVID masks which makes it hard to understand when taking your order, mainly due to the grill vent fan and other machines whirring in the background. Their fries are just okay. Their "giant burger" buns are too big for the patties by about 20%. They charge extra for refills and sauces. The indoor dining area has limited seating. I guess they can't spare to update or turn down their AC because it was pretty warm inside. A teeny kids burger was around $7 after tax and in our case they were a little over cooked. They seem to only have one size French fry, which it would be nice if they had a smaller size or a value size for those of us who don't eat a pound of potatoes in one sitting. Sadly, I probably will not be back. $71 for 3 kids and two adults with only one small soda is ridiculous. read more

The burgers were the worse they ever had, the milkshake was definitely not the same at all. The fries were the only thing that stayed the same. The price for the quality, definitely not worth it. I was looking for a place to eat a burger. Village Drive-In came up. I checked the prices on the menu, drove a considerable distance to get there. A Cheezeburger, Fri and Drink was advertised for 14.29 cents. When I got there it totalled 22 dollars and some change. They said that they have control over the pricing. They don't check to see if the pricing is correct, it was over 2 years ago since the menu was written. How having a company does not update their prices. It seems like a bait and switch to me.
