The meal!
Alex R.

Unfortunately, I think this is one of those places I really wanted to like, but it didn't step up to the plate. Like me, it's old school, retro, simple, and welcoming. It's a vibe. Honestly, if this is something you want or are feeling nostalgic for, I would give it a try. I had a simple, double cheeseburger with fries and a coke. The burger is thick and definitely overpowers the condiments. Mind you, I prefer this because I want the burger to do the work. The burger was hearty, but did not lend much flavor and may have been close to "well done." It was a burger experience that required more ketchup or more of their sauce, which barely felt present. The fries were also hearty and soft. I prefer a double fried or, at least, crispier fry, so this brought the experience down a notch for me. If you are seeking a throwback night with the fam and you are in the neighborhood, I would give it a try. I would perhaps try another a fry and ask for extra sauce. The place is a little steep as my meal approached $20 for the experience I got. If the prices reflected those of the old days, perhaps this could be a burger joint I revisit sooner.

A burger with grilled onions and cheese.

Village Drive-In has been serving up burgers and fries since the 1950s. It has a classic drive-in, that the looks surprisingly clean and well maintained for its age. The food and service were both good during my visit. I ordered a giant single with cheese for 10.59, and and a 3-piece chicken strip basket for 10.79. My burger came on a nicely toasted bun, had lots of meat, and plenty of fresh produce. It was so big, I had bit of trouble lining my mouth up for the approach. The chicken strips had a nice crispy crust on the outside, but were moist and tender on the inside. My fries were also crisp and cooked to a nice golden brown color. I can't complain about the quality of the food. There's a small dining room inside, more tables outside, and plenty of parking. It's definitely a restaurant I'd visit again.

Single burger and onion rings.

In all the years I've lived in East Sac, and have driven by Village drive-in probably 200 times, I've only stopped in once for a shake (which was yummy!)! This time I ordered dinner. The convenient drive-through was a bonus. I can't believe I never noticed it! The single hamburger was a good portion and delicious, with super fresh ingredients, and the onion rings were cooked to perfection. Everything was delicious and I'm going to be frequenting much more often!

Got a coffee shake (delicious btw) and took some pics my friend and I's cars out front and it was a great time. Had their food before too and it's A1!

Perfect fries!

Good local handmade hamburger joint. Love the old school classic diner style restaurant. Very nostalgic. The fries were cooked to perfection. The cheeseburger had good flavor and I enjoyed the garlic mayo sauce. My burger was a little bit on the dry end but not too dry. the prices for the burgers were a bit on the higher end for this type of fast food-ish place. $17.09 plus tax for a cheeseburger, soda and fries.

Do they still serve steak fries?

While they don't serve shoestring cut fries, I wouldn't say they serve a true steak cut French fry. Certainly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

I live in Roseville and don't make it out to south sac very often. I have wanted to try this place…read morefor the longest time. So over the weekend when I had to make a trip to Elk Grove I snatched up the opportunity to stop and bring some food home. I downloaded the app, created an account because I definitely want points and rewards. I also want to order ahead. My very first order was 2 piece chicken meal with spaghetti and mashed potatoes and gravy. It also came with the peach mango pie and the pineapple drink. When getting there my husband goes to pick up the order while I waited in the car with our dog. They were very busy inside and in the drive through so I expected a bit of a wait time. It started to get excessively long so I called him to ask what's going on. He goes to the counter to ask the status of the order. The guy asked for the order info so he gave it to him. He looks around and tells my husband they have no info on my order. That doesn't make sense. So he goes through a bunch of other customers receipts and he found mine. He laughed and told my husband oh I guess we put it to the side and forgot to make the order. Say what? Are you kidding me? They made it then. Strike one on lousy customer service. But maybe the food will make up for it? Yes and no. So my husband brings the food out and the plan was to bring it home to eat. I decided nope I need to try this now because I'm hungry and excited to eat this. I open the spaghetti. Looked good. Tasted better than it looks. I was in love and hooked immediately. My husband took a bite and didn't like it. His loss. More for me. It was a small side so I ended up just eating the whole thing. In the meantime I decided I also wanted to try the burger steak since I don't come often. He goes n to order it and I eat the mashed potatoes and gravy. Best fast food mashed potatoes and gravy I've ever had. Finished that off too lol. He brings the burger steak out. I was going to take the rest home but I wanted 1 bite of the burger steak. The container they used had a hole in the back and they 500 gallons of mushroom gravy ended up spilling over the side down on my bare legs (wearing shorts) and it was hot. At least I'll give them that. Hot, very hot and it's burned my legs. I still have my legs attached so it could be worse. Whatever. I try it. Not impressed. I took the rest home and ate it later because I wasn't going to waste food. But I absolutely wouldn't get that again. It was burnt, bland, dry. Even the Pacific Ocean amount of gravy didn't help the dryness. I ate the chicken at home. Very good chicken. Very juicy and tender. Skin was still crispy even after the drive back to Roseville. I also enjoyed the pie and the pineapple drink I just wish the drink could come in a bigger size. They are opening one in Roseville. I'm not sure when but it seems soon. And I can't wait. I'm definitely going to be a frequent flyer for that spaghetti. The bee outside was cute and I saw a few people taking selfies with it. My husband said the inside seemed clean. He wasn't inspecting it or anything. Just a normal interior of a fast food restaurant. I enjoyed the food, the majority of it. The customer service however was lacking.

My ultimate favorite from them. Sadly, the Sacramento branch tends to mess up our order. Yesterday was the 3rd time we encountered problems with our order. We purchased the 12pcs Bucket Family Meal with 5 sides. Upon ordering, we clearly said 6 spicy, 6 original. We know the two employees taking our order understood it since they repeated it to clarify the order. At home, we found out that they gave us all original instead of the initial 6/6. We live over an hour away only to get an order different from what we expected. Before, there were items missing.
