Yesterday I did a Yelp search of Burgers in the Arden-Arcade area in Sacramento. I landed on The Melt. I have never been and decided yesterday was the day. Parking was super easy. Upon entering the establishment, I was really impressed by the overall vibe of the place. It is super clean. I also appreciated that the kitchen is viewable and you can watch as they prepare your food. I also liked the patio they have for nice days, it looks comfortable. I ordered the Double Spicy Mission Melt Burger. It consisted of 2/3 lbs. total of Angus & Wagyu beef, chopped and grilled with 2 slices of Pepper jack, jalapeños, avocado, lettuce, spicy Melt sauce on an Artisan bun. I also ordered regular fries. WOW!! The burger was super huge!! It was cooked to a perfect Medium which I prefer. It tasted so good. All ingredients are clean. No artificial colors, HFC, or preservatives. Pure heaven!! The fries were perfectly cooked and coated with a really tasty seasoning. And the size of the order of fries was crazy huge!!! Worth mentioning is their Ranch Dressing is very creamy and delicious. Oh, the pickles. How could I forget to mention that they give you a whole pickle cut in half to accompany your Burger? Yum. I enjoyed every bite I could muster to eat. I was super full and was unable to finish eating everything. After an adventurous month in South Africa, my wife and I were craving our routine of having homemade meals- hence the hiatus that I took from trying new restaurants and Yelping. Since the establishment is located roughly 30 minutes from our home, we decided to have our order delivered via DoorDash. My wife and often share similar tastes, so we both opted for the Double BBQ Bacon MeltBurger. I ordered the garlic parmesan fries, while my wife chose the cheddar bacon ranch fries. The garlic parmesan fries were good...but my wife's bacon ranch fries were delicious (I stole a couple while she wasn't looking)! I was happy to come back to this restaurant, as Liz Zuniga (Guest Happiness Manager) encouraged me to give this restaurant another shot. In this visit, I proceeded to order the following food items: * Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich * Melty Mac * Tomato Soup The chicken sandwich was juicy and fried to perfection. The size of the chicken breast was huge. The spicy melt sauce was delicious, too. I added mayonnaise to enhance the flavor. The Melty Mac was decently prepared. I added black pepper on top. Lastly, the Tomato Soup was absolutely incredible and divine, just like I remembered from the first visit. What stood out about this visit was the associate, Timothy. He was so extroverted and pleasantly kind to the point where he was engaging with all of the guests inside the restaurant. I enjoyed our conversation, as he was super welcoming and ensured that I was taken care of. He even went around to offer complimentary chocolate chip cookies to everyone! I'd say his unforgettable hospitality definitely brought this review up to 5 stars. As a bonus, I liked how this restaurant offered free Wi-Fi. It was super convenient, as I needed to complete work on my laptop. The inside of the restaurant was clean and presentable. Parking was easy to find around this time, too. I'll leave this as a 3 instead of a 2, but under protest. The reason being is that I'm willing to come back, but they need to make some improvements. First, the good. The tomato soup was actually very good, not simply an afterthought side dish. I ordered the patty melt...at a place called "The Melt," with pictures of items covered in gooey cheese. False advertising? Look at my picture. While the cheese had good taste, there was nowhere near "the melt effect" one would expect. The patty was cooked well, but has no seasoning... therefore, no flavor. I think they don't season it because of the supposed melt sauce...I say supposed, because there was no sauce on my melt, though the description says melt sauce. I sat there with great tomato soup, a sandwich with minimal cheese, and a soda...for $$. It did not taste fresh at all. Then the dessert made things even worse. The bread was hard, and the cheesecake literally looked like someone had already taken a piece out of it. Ok I know giving 5 stars is wild and typically for like Michelin star locations but wow this place blew my mind! I got the double cheese burger and the double bbq bacon burger and holy moly these were HUGE!! Like 5 pounds of burger per burger and it was DELIcious! The worst part is my burger was so red it might as well still been moo-ing. I prefer my red meat be well done. After driving my sister to an appointment, I spotted The Melt, which stood out in a good way. When I looked them up and saw they had burgers. Some of it was some history on The Melt, Central Pacific Railroad, Sacramento State college in 1949... the history on the walls is fun to check out and much easier since there weren't so many people. As you can see, I was eating with my eyes. My double Melt Burger was enormous. Also, you can see where I mentioned we didn't want the pickle on the side... and there it was on our tray. However, presentation was spot on! I enjoyed talking to Timothy. Thank you for grabbing us napkins!!! He showed us above and beyond customer service!! As for the taste- The burger was not that good. First time visiting The Melt because I was craving a good patty melt, and it definitely hit the spot. I liked that the ordering kiosk lets you customize your meal, including switching up the bread options. I chose the spicy garlic bread, which added a great flavor and really elevated the sandwich. I found this by searching for the best fast food in Sacramento but it really isn't as it is a sit down place. The food was awesome. I had the Italian Job and garlic fries chased down with a thick and creamy shake. My wife had the Mac Daddy and her face when she bit into it was pure joy. Timothy provided excellent service. Love the addition of Melt to this area and the space is so nice and welcoming. I love the way they decorate the restaurant and the menu definitely speaks to me as someone who loves grilled cheese, burgers, and sandwiches. I've gotten food at this location a few times now and the service isn't always consistent. They do have kiosks but also have a counter that you can order from up front. As someone who is happy to do either it'd be nice to have more direction one way or the other. When I've stopped in I haven't always been greeted, and it would be cool to right away have someone say "Welcome in, feel free to order at the kiosk or with me". I like getting the grilled cheese and tomato soup, the patty melt, or some mac and cheese when I stop in. It's a nice hamburger, but the value proposition isn't that great. I understand this place is straddling between a formal dine-in experience compared to a casual experience. It is basically an alternative version of Shake Shack. However, shake shack despite it's similar prices often have coupons which drop the prices significantly. The hamburger is fine, and taste better than most places. However, once a hamburger crosses into a double digit prices with no fries, it enters into a very competitive market. Where, the brioche buns better have a smooth buttery taste. The brioche wasn't stale, but the richness wasn't there. The amount of mushrooms was a bit anemic for the price.
