I have had more than one bad experience at this Gamestop (all with the same employee) but this time I was pushed to my limit and decided to go through and give it a review. I pre-ordered a game about 3 months ago. Yesterday when I went to pick it up an employee named "Patrick" told me his shipment had come in but he had not opened it and gone through it yet so he could not get me my game. I was told to come back later that day. Keep in mind I made the drive here to pick up my game and now I was being told to go home and make the drive all over again. So I decided to just come back the next day. I call the next day to avoid another disappointing drive and the same employee picks up and this time he tells me he shipment never came at all. Now I am being told to come in later TODAY and check if it is in. Now I am getting multiple stories and I still do not have my game that I pre-ordered. Disappointing to say the least, I for one will no longer be doing business here ever again. This was the final straw. read more

Services is terrible, no greeting or asked for help. Team members are gathered at registers talking about soical media and unrelated work conversations using profanity. Super unprofessional and then when asked for help a console, a vague answer was given. Gamestop has definitely lost a customer and ill be letting everyone know about awful experience i had with this location. This use to be a place i can come and get reliable information and upcoming consoles, games, etc... now it looks like the people working are just there for a check and could give no consideration about customers coming asking questions or getting information. Its a quick "yeahhh i cant answer that!" or "call the number on the back, we dont deal with those situations." I would never recommend this place for gaming or gaming merchandise. You're better off buying off of amazon or find a mom and pop shop for gaming where the worker values customer interaction and great customer service! read more

I love them!! This team is amazing and they are extremely helpful! My husband and I go there all the time and every time we go in we are greeted and feel welcomed. I see all the negative reviews but I don't understand how they have so many negatives. This is the best GameStop team ever!!!! If they weren't I wouldn't go there basically ever weekend. read more

I am really shocked to see poor reviews. Gamestop offers some of the best service of ANY BUSINESS I ever go to. I am always greeted and asked if I need help. They answer questions knowledgeably. They offer specials but they don't push them on you. They make all store policies very clear. They even say things like "If you finish the game quickly and return it within 48 hours you can get all your money back." I have had numerous good experiences at this store and I really don't know what the complaints are about. read more

I collect Funko Pop! figures, and one I have been actively searching for is the very hard to find Mr. Meeseeks from Rick & Morty. Everyday I check every Gamestop within 100 miles on the Gamestop app to see if there are any in stock, but there never are. This past weekend (8/4/2017) my wife and I were on vacation up in the San Francisco area, and while I was there I saw that the Gamestop in Emeryville had a Mr. Meeseeks Pop! in stock. Since it was a 40 minute drive, I decided to call to make absolute sure it was there, and the man who answered thought I was crazy for even asking, since this particular figure is somewhat rare. After checking, he sounded shocked, telling me that they do in fact have one left. I asked if he could hold it for me and for how long, and he said that he could hold it until they close at 8:00pm. I told him thank you for holding it, and we ended the conversation. Immediately after, I also reserved a hold on the app as well, just to make certain I would have it. Being 7:00pm, my wife and I hurried toward Emeryville to get there before close, and halfway there I get an email saying that the staff at that particular location were "unable" to fulfill my request. Upset, I called the guy back several times with no answer, until he finally picked up. I asked him if it was still available and said that we were on our way, but he told me a very unbelievable story. He told me that in the short time that he walked from the shelf the figure was on to the computer to process my hold, someone must have came into the store and stolen it, because it all of a sudden went "missing". Not sure how to take such an outright lie, I said thanks anyway and ended the call. After talking with several people about this, we are all in agreement that this employee purposely kept the figure for himself once he realized that it was in stock, knowing that it is hard to find. I find it deeply disturbing that Gamestop employs people who outright lie and steal from their customers, even after I was told he would hold it for me. And to make it even more upsetting, the fact that he came up with some outrageous lie that the store was robbed and all they stole was one figure, shows how stupid he thought I was. Something must be done to correct this awful, horrible experience I had with Gamestop, as it left me feeling cheated and blindsided. Not to mention the time and gas I wasted over halfway there, only to be let down and hugely disappointed by Gamestop. Until something is done to correct this, I will no longer continue to shop at Gamestop, and have already been spreading the horrible word about my experience to everyone I know. read more

Pretty good selection of used games and new ones. The staff changes a lot and is either a hit or miss regarding knowledge on upcoming games, comparability etc. The thing that I don't like is that there is a message saying that your being watched announced on the loudspeaker. This makes me feel as if the store thinks I'm going to steal and it makes me feel a bit unsafe. All in all a decent gamestop if you don't have another option. read more

Well, I either go to this location or the one on Shattuck ( which will get a seperate review) because an associate told me that the Ghostbusters game was never released for Playstation 3. I don't know how that is possible since it is sitting in a stack of games by my tv but whatever. Anyways, I went in there yesterday because I wanted to exchange a game and the process was quick and easy. I alsdo inquired about some pre orders that I never picked up and with that said I was able to preorder Assassin's Creed 3 and get my collector's case that was apparently sold out everywhere else. I feel bad for whoever I may be dating or at least talking to after October 20th. I also pre-ordered Ghost Recon and got a free blue hankerchief with a skull on it. read more

Worst customer service ever. I pre-ordered a game online, and paid extra for next day shipping when it was released. It takes 4 days after release to be shipped. They said it's their policy to send it out when they feel like it basically. No refund of shipping charges. Amazon would have done better, should have stuck with them read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! My boyfriend and I came to pick up a game he had on reserve and this location closes at 8:00pm. We live in Richmond which isn't too far but we were only driving to Emeryville in my Durango which has a V8 engine so it is a gas guzzler. When we got there, it was 7:56pm and the store associate would not let us in to pick up and pay for the game. He tried to ignore us when we knocked on the door but when we kept knocking, he finally looked up just to shake his head and motion that they're closed. I understand it was damn near closed but it wasn't 8:00pm yet. Even two guys tried to come in behind us cause they knew it wasn't 8:00pm either. What happened to customer service nowadays? read more

I assume this isn't entirely uncommon, but I started this Yelp account 2 minutes ago because I need so badly to vent to someone--ANYONE!-- about the horrible experience I just had (how 21st Century of me). I went to this Gamestop on Hollis this morning to buy a new controller and a used game, went home, hated the game and the controller; looked at my receipt and discovered that I could return both items for a full refund; then I looked on their website and found a different game and a different controller I wanted. 7 hours later I went back to return the stuff and buy a different game and a pricier controller, and also brought along another 2 old games of mine to sell. When I got there it was a full 15 minutes before they closed, and it took me less than a minute to grab the game I wanted from their shelves. The same guy who rang me up this morning was at the counter, and when I told him what I wanted to do, he loudly made one of those obnoxious but short, voiceless fricative *tss* sounds, followed by an even louder sigh, and rolled his eyes at me. Throughout the rest of our exchange he never once made eye contact with me, and moved about behind the counter as if his arms and legs weighed a thousand pounds. It was oh so charming, and some of the best customer service I'd ever experienced. In the end, the whole thing took only 5 minutes, meaning that by the time I walked out the door there was still a good 8 or 9 minutes before they closed. I don't mean to get high and mighty (yes I do) but I've been working in retail and customer service for ten years, and I have never once acted that way with a customer. Oh so many things could have been said that I refrained from saying. Only my good mood, though fading, kept me from overtly reacting to his histrionic fit. P.S. Yes, the store is terribly disorganized, but it's not nearly as bad as the store on Bay St. Plus there's always plenty of free parking, unlike Bay St. (though parking fees there are nominal). read more

Called in to put a hold on a few used PS3 games and the guy on the phone was super helpful. Showed up later that day to pick them up and ended up buying a few extra games because their inventory was so extensive. They seemed to have every game I'd been looking for but never thought they'd have. Great service, great selection. read more

Been there about 5 times in the past year and the employees always take their time helping me out. Luong in particular is always helpful, courteous, gives his honest opinion and is always smiling. Every time I have been in this place I have been greeted by everyone in sight. The customer service here is ridiculous. And by ridiculous I mean I have never experienced this type of service where you don't tip. I get greeted by multiple people, every couple of minutes if there is a line they apologize for the wait and are very friendly when it come helping you decided on a game. If you ask me the people who shop here are the problem. The people greet the customers and they don't even acknowledge it and that is the probably the reason for people on yelp saying they don't greet you when you come in. I have been here at least 25 times and every time I have had really good customer service. read more

I just wanted to state that I have been a loyal customer to this store for well over a year and spent thousands of dollars... but as of now I have canceled everything I have pre ordered which was about 10-15 games due to the fact that they didn't honor one of my pre orders. I went in on the launch day for Metal Gear HD collection and was expecting my copy to be there ready for me to pick up. I had the special edition reserved which costs 80 dollars, as I get up to the counter they make me wait 10-15 mins because I believe they were hunkered in the back talking about what to say to me. Turns out they didn't have my copy and blamed it on the new UPS guy making 3 deliveries a day... then said they should get it in with in the next couple days. Just so you know I walk everywhere... so its about a 30 mins walk for me to get to this Gamestop. Anyways... I made 3 trips back to the store and every time I was told they still didn't have it in. My pre order for this game would have expired anyways since there is a 48 hour time limit on picking it up. On the third time I came in I got rid of all my reserves. I am very upset because no matter what now I am going to have to pay an arm and a leg for this game now because it now costs over 400$ on ebay and 200$ on amazon. I will never get the game that I was guaranteed to get by a company that DOESNT HONOR RESERVES. I will no longer be giving Gamestop my business and am now ordering everything through amazon. On another not the Manager Christian tends to be very unprofessional and didnt try to resolve this issue. Didnt try and call other stores to see if they got them. Wasnt helpful at all. I have a fairly low opinion of this company already, but for this store it's really bad since I was robbed at gunpoint inside the store. 2 years ago, I walked in during my lunch and didnt notice the guy at the counter (back to me)....1 wallet and a pistol whipped cashier later, it was over, but I havent been back since. This place is a joke. Don't sell used equipment if it doesn't work. Bought a PS4 controller and all the buttons are stuck causing multiple problems during gameplay. Tried to return it but they said I couldn't since it was preowned. read more
