I used to go to the numero uno in the city a lot ever since it opened. At the time it was the first of its kind to open right in Ktown servin' good kimchi for a change. When GaM Mee Ok first opened, they were pretty decent as far as restaurants go.. But I believe profit margins probably got the better of them. To make true beef bone broth can get costly especially due to storage if storage is lacking. seolleong tang is the soup that made Gam Mee Ok famous when it use be be made right. If you have ever made this soup at home, you would realize to get that white color is impossible through just boiling bones. They get that color using milk . Of course there is nothing wrong with this, but they are probably using the cheapest milk they can buy. In addition, I believe they are relying on the milk a little too much lately. I would bet my house that there probably is very little nutritional value to their soups compared to a true beef broth boiled for hours and hours all day long with many bones. think about the number of soups served and how many mega large boiling pots they have to have boiling all day long. I did not see this in their kitchen unless they have a serious setup in the basement. However looking at the building and seeing that there are not any serious fans coming out of the back of the building, my guess is they are either not serving that many soups or they are skimping on making true beef bone broth. they have also expanded their menu greatly since I've last been here which is quite a while ago. Their customers are also more non Koreans since they first opened. So this seems to be a trend with korean restaurants in the area which I think will just hurt Korean Cuisine as it gets more popular. Market to more non koreans and go cheap on the ingredients since they wont be able to tell the difference. Also their kim chi is sweet as hell for my taste. I guess this is for the Americanizing the korean cuisine which I dont mind. I just wish they could use something healthier than sprite and white sugar. Avoid this place at all cost. We ordered soondea moeum. Soondea and livers were sooooo dried. We asked them why is the food dried, the waiter told us they made them yesterday and they were frozen so we have to eat it right away when the food is hot. Nobody wanta frozen foods. And other food we ordered came out like 20minutes later. The rice noodle were ok. And bibimbob were ok too. We asked for a check after the meal. Soondea plate were $30. Wow!! For that dried up frozen soondea for $30? Noway! We called the cashier and told her the story and she gave us partial discount for the soondea plate. We'll never visit this place never again. But I was shocked when I opened the menu and saw the prices. $11 for a bowl of sulungtang? Bitch, please. $13.50 for a bowl of normal naengmyun? C'mon, we're not in freakin Manhattan. I woulda been happier if the sulungtang was chock full of beef and noodles, but it wasn't. Pretty standard. Despite the fact that my father got food poisoning from eating a bad oyster in their bo ssam dish, I still actually like the place for its down-home Korean country cooking. The actual dishes to try are the kom tang (mild oxtail soup), dogani muchim (spicy cow cartilage) and soo yook. (steamed brisket with a mound of spicy green onions). The Fort Lee location is nicer and cleaner than its New York counterpart. It's a good alternative to the Korean BBQ places and is also open 24 hours. read more

Gam Mee Ok is well known for Sul lung tang( Snowy white ox bone soup) and Kimchi. They open 24 hours, good for late dinner as well. Once you finish your order, waiter comes and cut kimchi in front of you. Service is good and ambiance is elegant. I like their Kimchi, just fits on my taste. They sell Kimchi also in small container. Haemul Pa Jun( Scallion pancake with seafood) is tasty also but bit pricey. Sul lung tang is awesome tasty soup. read more

This is a great place for some bomb bibimbap-- both the hot and regular. Their cold noodles are also refreshing and nice. I love that the waiters hand-cut the kimchi in front of you and it's home made-- another plus. There's also a kneeling area and the inside is nice. Very traditional Korean beef bone soup. The soup broth is extremely rich and you can taste the bone marrow which has been simmering for hours. The kimchi is perfect and very fermented - and a big plus is that you get as much as you want cut by the waiter table side. I know they have other Korean dishes but they are just so, so. Seol-reong-tang, Korean bone soup, is good by itself. But the kimchi and ggakdughi which are essential part of enjoying the soup are bit too sweet for my taste. They are open 24 hours, so it is good for early morning snack after you have few drinks in you. Bin-dae-dduk, Korean chick pea pancake, is good. Crispy outside with nice dark brown burn from the pan. For the refill, they will bring the Kimchi from their kitchen - the kimchis will be already cut, unlike the first plate. I guess those are slightly more aged than the first one. Understandable practice, just be aware of it so that you don't wonder why the refill doesn't taste as good as the first one. read more
