HG used to put a generous amount of protein on the plate. And even for fries order, the amount was always generous. On the last 2 visits, that hasn't been the case. When I asked how come the amount of protein is so little now, the employee answered that that's the right amount. If I want more and I can always add protein on top. Fries order the same thing. I recently went back to Halal Guys to pick up a family meal for dinner. I was super excited since I love eating here. I ordered my usual - the family meal (serves 4-5) and an extra side of chicken. This is usually enough to feed my family and maybe an extra meal for my son's lunch the next day. Then I got super disappointed when I opened the bag. The shrinkflation is real here. The extra side of chicken for $10.35 is now a super small portion in a little plastic container instead of the regular size platter tin. The side of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and green peppers are now 1/2 of what they usually offer, and the rice was barely enough for my family. We had less than 16 pieces of pita which was supposed to come with the meal. What the heck was this?? If you want more tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, lettuce, etc., you have to pay extra. When I saw how little we got, I ended up warming up extra leftover rice and getting my own lettuce from the fridge and baking more pita bread from my freezer to eat so my husband and kids could have enough to eat from the "family meal". When I order a family meal for 4-5 people, I expect to feed 4-5 people. Not 3.5 (my hubby, two older kids, and one child). I should not be expected to make additional food on my own to supplement my family meal, nor ration a tablespoon of tomatoes and onions per person. It's so pathetic. Finally brought my daughter here to try their food. She was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the food. We shared a large platter with beef gyro and chicken . ( Btw, it was only a dollar more for the large portion.) White sauce on the side. Platter included yellow rice (basmati?) lettuce and diced tomatoes. You can also add a few other complimentary toppings too ( onion, bell pepper or olives) I like to eat it mixed up with the sauce. They have a some tables inside and outside as well as limited counter style seating . The interior is clean and well kept . Walked in on a Thursday around 1pm and the place was completely empty. The employee behind the counter greeted us briefly, then went right back to cooking. We stood there for several minutes, trying to decide on our order, but he never turned back to acknowledge us or take it. After about 5 minutes, I finally said, "We're ready to order when you are." He turned around and responded, "I'll let you know when I'm ready." Honestly, that was shocking. We still gave it another few minutes, hoping things would improve. Instead, he finished cooking, walked away, came back with a pitcher of water, and started cleaning the stove--without a single word to us about our order or the wait. After more than 10 minutes of being ignored, we left. Sadly, this explains why this location always seems empty whenever we stop by (which isn't often to begin with). I haven't had Halal guys in years, but we decided to get this for lunch the other day. Plenty of parking, plenty of seating. The moment I walked in, there's like this specific stench that didn't really smell too appealing. The counter was pretty empty, so we had to wait a bit for the employee to attend us. He was nice and pretty efficient with his work, but seemed like he was the only guy there to work. I got the small size plate with chicken and falafel and a side of hummus. My bf got the regular size, and honestly the portion was pretty big. The tables were fairly clean here since it just opened too. I had Mediterranean food just recently, so it may be easy to compare to this... which the quality here was not good. The chicken here oddly tasted fake? The the rice didn't taste fresh, and cabbage was not fresh, and the pita bread was okay... The hummus also tasted oddly unnatural... the only thing I liked was the falafel. Overall it kinda tasted like cafeteria food, which is very unfortunate and unpleasant to experience from a renowned place. My bf also had an upset stomach after this. I stood there awkwardly until one of the zombies snapped out of it and asked if I wanted to order. I said sure... *if there was a menu*. Blank TV screens stared back at me. Girl reset them while I scanned for a clean table -- spoiler alert: there wasn't one. Rice, lettuce, sticky tables, dirty napkins, and a floor that looked like it lost a fight with a food truck. Menu finally flickers on. I mention it's my first time -- expecting some recommendations, you know... basic customer service? Instead, she starts reciting ingredients like I'm at a DMV window. I settled on chicken with rice and honey hummus (skip the tomatoes). The verdict: Chicken was *meh* (dry), rice and honey hummus? Solid. But for $20? I'd rather hit my go-to spots like **Panini Kabob Grill**, **Café X2O**, or **Zankou Chicken** -- clean, flavorful, and they actually seem to care. -By the way, I ate at the dirtiest table! I have been coming to this location for about 5 years now. The food used to taste so good and the portions were a plenty. This last time i came here, the food tasted like it had been sitting out for hours and just didn't give off that freshness it once contained. I think i was in and out within 3 minutes. I remember waiting a bit longer, perhaps because they were actually cooking the food before... I'm not really sure. Even the famous red hot sauce didn't give off the extremely spicy flavor it used to have. There was an over abundance of rice that i ended up just throwing away toward the end, because the meat portions did not match. I'm hoping this was just a bad one off experience... as i would be very dissappointed if all future visits to this establishment were to mirror this last experience.
