I just discovered a Chinese restaurant located inside a strip mall at the intersection of Fullerton and Colima. They specialize in freshly steamed buns (baozi) and feature an all-you-can-eat congee bar. The lady working there speaks Mandarin; she asked if it was my first time, and I told her it was. For just $3, you get unlimited soup and congee with four different varieties to choose from. For an extra $2.50, you get unlimited refills from a selection of four cold side dishes. They also offer à la carte steamed baos, wontons, and dumplings for dine-in or takeout. I didn't have much of an appetite today, so I skipped the buns and just ordered the congee and appetizers. My bill came out to only $5.50 plus tax, which is ridiculously cheap! For the congee, the options were Century Egg & Lean Pork, Eight Treasure, Millet, and Hulatang (Spicy Pepper Soup). I tried the Century Egg & Lean Pork congee, but the texture was a bit watery, and the flavor was somewhat bland. The Hulatang (hot pepper soup) was a little too thick and jelly-like. While the Millet congee was also on the bland side, I actually really enjoyed the texture. I skipped the Eight Treasure congee this time. Honestly, at $3 for all-you-can-eat congee, it sounds too good to be true, so I didn't have high expectations for the quality. However, I really liked the cold side dishes bar! They had all my favorites, including Liángbàn Tǔdòusī (shredded potato salad), shredded wood ear mushroom salad, and spicy cucumber salad. I will definitely go back next time to try their dumplings, wontons, and baozi.

Have ordered from this store a few times for delivery since it's one of the few places that make fresh baos with different toppings. The food here reminds me of the breakfast foods served in China early mornings. My usual go to orders is an assortment of their top baos: leek & egg, pork, and beef along with an order of wontons: pork or pork & shrimp. This time I also ordered the soy milk and it's delicious. Overall the food is fresh and reasonably priced. I haven't eaten there in person but it seems they have more options for buffet. My favorite is the leek & egg bao.

The house special pork bun and the pork/shrimp/chives dumplings are both amazing. I knew it was going to be good when they opened this restaurant within close proximity to a couple other bun and dumpling places

Delicious! The lady behind the counter was so nice and loved our excitement over the food. She gave us the cutest keychain that I immediately added to my bag. There was a 10-15ish wait but man these were fresh! The texture on both the bao and dumplings were amazing. The bao was airy and not too dense; the dumplings were slick and succulent. We got the green bean and pork bao as well as the red braised pork bao, both were incredible. Decently sized, too. Sometimes bbq braised pork can be a touch too sweet for me, but these were perfect! The dumpling was chive forward, aromatic and tasty. I will be back to try more!

This is where the vegetarian buns shine more than pork. The leeks and egg one was the best but the cabbage and mushroom was pretty good too. Full of filling and the buns are nice and soft. It's the perfect size and I do not detect any msg in the filling, which is rare these days.

Located in the Colima Plaza. Plenty of parking, can be packed on the weekend, there's more parking in the back. The restaurant is open early great for breakfast or on the go. I order their braised pork bun and their regular pork bun. All so good and delicious. Good amount of filling. Service was nice and quick. Place was clean.

Super fresh Chinese buns. Baozi is a stuffed Chinese bun. This used to be a frog pot restaurant but now it's a baozi restaurant. The baozi are always freshly made so very often the stuffing you want would be sold out. It can be annoying but the good thing is that they don't serve you frozen ones. My favorite stuffing is the pork which is think is better than beef one which is too lean. I think the chive one with egg is not bad either. Overall I think the stuffing can be improved (the sauce has too much soy sauce) but it's really not bad at all. The porridges are a great deal for $3 a person because it's all you can eat. It's a very popular place in the morning so be prepared to have to wait for the baozi. Service is prompt and courteous and interior is bright and large. Parking can be hard to find due to the busy plaza.

King Baozi is another great restaurant offering high value meal in Rowland Heights. Their specialty is northern Chinese style breakfast, offering a wide variety of bao flavor such as pork, beef, spicy chicken, pickled cabbage with pork, egg and chives, braised pork, and more. They also serve classic cold dishes like seaweed, shredded potato, and cucumber, along with comforting soups including millet porridge, century egg and pork porridge, eight treasure porridge, hot pepper soup, and other Chinese dishes such as wontons and dumplings. While the bao are sold at about $2.5 to $3 each, the cold dishes and soups are offered in AYCE at a very reasonable price ($2-3 per person). Most people can enjoy a filling meal for around $10 per person. The bao seasoning leans on the heavier side, but pairing them with their millet congee creates a balanced and satisfying combination. The bao skin is thick and soft, and generally two to three of them are enough to satisfy an adult. Although I am not a fan of hot pepper soup, this was my first time trying it and the flavor was interesting. Overall, King Baozi is a solid spot for a hearty, affordable northern Chinese breakfast/lunch meal. Come hungry and enjoy!

We've been coming here regularly since we discovered this place!! Super delicious baozi (buns) and a buffet side dish/porridge bar that we really enjoy. It's $3/per person and $2.5 per person for the porridge and side dish respectively. The guns are so so delicious. We've tried all the flavors and they are all good. Pictured are the vegetarian options - leek and egg and cabbage and mushroom. The best part is the people here are the sweetest. That's probably why we love coming here so much.

A super casual spot that even my dad is willing to go out to eat! Pricing is very affordable and the buns are pretty tasty; we each have a different fave, but mine is spicy chicken. We enjoy the AYCE congee/soup station and add an appetizer AYCE. Fast-ish, but we can eat the other stuff while waiting for the baos. And staff is always friendly!1

Although it may be easy to pass by a place like King Baozi Bistro because of the availability of baozi in Asian supermarkets nearby, I would urge anyone to take eating at this place into serious consideration! As you would've guessed, King Baozi Bistro focuses primarily on making fresh baozis of all kinds - from beef filled to pickled cabbage and pork filled, everything we've tried here has been great. My personal favorites are for the mixed filling baozis like the chive and egg and the pickled cabbage and pork I just mentioned. Everything also comes out piping hot and the baozi fillings always have a finely mixed texture. King Baozi Bistro also features a self service congee bar with a nice selection of sides as well other items like red bean porridge and a homemade wonton soup if you want something to supplement your baozi. It's worth noting nothing in the menu breaks the band here - each baozi is around $2.50 - $3, the congees are $3 and the most expensive item are the wontons at close to $10. I think what really makes King Baozi a special place is its service, specially the nice older lady who seems to be running it most of the time. She's incredibly sweet, goes out of her way to ask how you are enjoying the baozi and probably cleans up more than she has to so be nice and help her out! The interior also harkens back to the type of older mom and pops restaurants in the 80s and 90s you'd see in parts of Asia and even here in Rowland Heights during that time - simple, fluorescent, but with these small touches that make them fun. King Baozi Bistro seems to like having interesting variations of Disney and Marvel characters adorn their chairs!

I had lunch with a friend last Wednesday at King Baozi Bistro. We were seated right away upon arrival, even without a reservation. We ordered at the counter first. The prices were very reasonable and fair. The all-you-can-eat cold dish bar was only $2.50 per person and included four different options: seaweed, sliced potato, celery with peanuts, and cucumber salad. The fillable congee was just $3 per person, and they offered four types: Millet Congee (my favorite), Eight Treasure Congee, Century Egg & Lean Pork Congee, and Pepper Hot Soup. For the baozi, my favorite was the Red Braised Pork Belly Baozi ($3 each). I also tried the Chive & Egg Baozi ($2.50 each), which was very good. The Beef Baozi ($3 each) was a bit salty for my taste, while the Pork Baozi ($2.50 each) was good. The prices at King Baozi Bistro were excellent--we only spent about $28 total for lunch for two people. It's now one of my go-to lunch spots. I also noticed some customers ordering takeout. I will definitely visit King Baozi Bistro in Rowland Heights again!
