Hello everyone, This is a note to the store at this location (Wisconsin Ave./Chevy Chase). On Sunday, November 12, I noticed that there was a dog in the store. It appeared to me that this dog was not a service dog based on its behavior. I would like management to consider that not every customer is comfortable with an untrained or non-service dog in the store. Due to their lack of training, dogs could become aggressive in an unfamiliar environment. Also, I don't like it when a pet starts touching new items such as clothing or any other product inside the store. I'm paying money for new merchandise in perfect condition. If other retail stores can clearly state that only service dogs are accepted, you as a retailer can do the same. Even Walmart has posted notices at the entrance of their stores stating that only service dogs are accepted. Also, it is time for pet owners to be responsible and stop taking their untrained pets into every conceivable business. As a retailer, you should contribute to this goal by clearly stating that untrained dogs and/or pets should not be in the store. read more

Gap's a pretty great clothing store. Their locations are about the same from location to location, but this is the one I've come to for ages. They sell fashionable clothes (at least, they're fashionable to me) of very good quality at reasonable prices. If you're looking for something more upscale than Old Navy, Gap's your stop (which makes sense, since they're owned by the same company). The men's section has a lot of variety in sizes, which is great. That said, I do notice a larger amount of 29-32 waist size pants compared to larger sizes. Ah well. The employees are pretty helpful, but they don't really approach you unless you look really lost. Definitely look for the items on sale... you can end up getting great items for 50% off. They also validate the parking, which is great. read more

Jan. 2023, and most of Friendship Heights is a retail ghost town. Walking past GAP, on impulse went in looking for a nice heavyweight pique knit polo shirt. The store was totally empty, no customers, just one clerk in the far back folding things and passive-aggressively trying not to make eye contact. Asked her if they had men's polo shirts in stock. She led me to a stack of T shirts, not polo shirts. I repeated, and she took me to another stack of shirts, finally polo shirts, , then she tried to hurry away. I checked the price tag, FIFTY dollars. I asked, "What makes this shirt worth that much money?" She was super passive aggressive, super apathetic, super unfriendly. "I don't know, corporate sets the price, we are not on commission". Um....the customer signs your paycheck. Without me, you don't have a roof over your head or food on your table, but you're treating me like an annoyance rather than a welcome guest? Why not answer, "That's a great question, I don't know. Let's go ask the manager together..... please follow me, sir"? I've worked plenty of retail jobs, and was even a retail manager of a clothing store, many years ago. Besides being able to try it on, how is this any better than just ordering a shirt to be delivered from Amazon? The polo shirts were flimsy, thin, cheap feeling. Look, I hate the type of clerk who snidely says, "Can I help you?" in a pushy manner. I get that maybe the girl was trained not to b e that way, but: What is should be is, "Hello, welcome. I'm susan. If you need anything, please let me know" then walk away." Rather than hiding out at the back of the store pretending you didn't see me walk in. What she should have been trained to answer: "Well, these shirts are made in the United States instead of being made with child labor in sweat shops overseas. The cotton is pre shrunk, long staple, and grown in a sustainable manner. Part of the cost is our retail expenses, and I am paid a living wage to work here. The thread used to sew in the content label is not cheap scratchy plastic, it's soft cotton. The buttons are cross stitched so they won't come off. The tail of the shirt is long so it won't come untucked when you bend over. The collar is taped fully, not just cosmetically. The shirt has a sewn-on front pocket, and the placket is reinforced. All the seams are double stitched. This shirt isn't just fashionable, it's an investment, a great value for the price." There was a sign by the shirts that I didn't look at carefully, announcing a "sale". I got the feeling they were pulling the slimy stunt of jacking up to a fake high price, then announcing a fake discount. I am not looking for perfection, and I am not looking for the lowest possible price. I am looking for VALUE. I don't care if the shirts are stacked with pretentious geometric precision in the store. I don't care if the color is currently fashionable. I don't care about logos. I care about IS IT WORTH what I pay because of tangible benefits, such as being durable and functional? This company is in huge financial trouble. I went next door immediately following this, to Banana Republic, owned by GAP. That store was also vacant, I was the only customer. The men's polo shirts there were equally flimsy, with the only noticable distinction being some d bag logo embroidered on. I've always despised logos. I'm supposed pay you extra money for the privelege of walking around as an unpaid advertisement for your brand? What kind of insecure shallow loser cares about a logo rather than genuine tangible quality? The virtually identical shirts at Banana Republic were forty dollars, not fifty. How do you explain that? I remember when Banana Republic was strictly a mail order catalog with unique and exciting items, each described in deep detail, explaining what made them better and what made them worth the price. Yeah, I get that this was Bethesda, full of overpaid pretentious one percent d bags, but even they should know a rip off when they see it. With all the vacant nearby retail space, GAP could and should negotiate an immediate reduction in what they are paying to lease that retail space, and pass some of the savings on to the consumer. You can't blame everything on the pandemic. There is a fundamental cultural cancer at work here. Being the lowest price, or being the most fashionable are completely irrelevant. Value is based on what went into it in terms of materials and labor and skill and design, compared to what it costs. In our culture, people have lost the ability to understand fundamental VALUE. Complained via email, got a mealy mouthed reply with a coupon code. No explanations. No attempt to justify or explain the price. The ONLY thing you offer is customer service, and your staff are not paid enough or trained enough to provide that. No wonder GAP is going out of business. Good riddance. read more

Just did some school shopping and the young woman, Syrena, who helped me was AWESOME. It was a time consuming purchase to begin with and then I wound up coming back 10 mins later to return everything so I could use my Gap card for a 10% discount. She handled it like a champ. I have probably spent too much money in this particular store. I work at a restaurant right around the corner, so I'd often come here during my break or right before a shift. Came in handy the one day I realized I forgot to put my black pants in my backpack and had to buy a pair here right before clocking in for my shift. Me: I need to find a pair of black pants...and kinda quick. Gap Employee: Okay, well we have our selection right over here...what style are you looking for? Me: The ankle cut. GE: That's a nice pant - but you know that means it stops right at your ankle...is that what you want? Me: Um. Well, yes. As you see, I'm more on the short side...so an "ankle" cut pant for the average person is actually the perfect length for me, a shorter person - this way I don't have to get them tailored! ** Friendly staff...nice store...Gap Kids next door...as well as a Banana Republic. read more

Pissed me off. Stupid parking policy. They will validate if you make a purchase. Well what if you don't have what I'm looking for or the right size? Then I have to pay for my parking? This I found out in advance when I called. So I parked instead at a free spot five minutes away and walked there on a freezing night with not enough coat and I arrived to find that the item the person on the phone told me they had they did NOT have in stock. So I guess if I had parked in their garage it would have cost me half an hour's parking to find that out, never mind the wasted time and effort. Honestly I haven't shopped at the Gap in probably 10 years and this experience did nothing to draw me in any more frequently. read more

One of the first things you notice when you walk into this store is the great ambience. Clothes are properly organized by sections, music is always pleasent, workers are either folding clothes or helping customers...there seems to be a harmony going on where things are done right. Amazingly enough, if you are a savvy cupon shopper you will get some astounding deals. Hoghly recommended. read more

Pretty much your average Gap store - though I found the employees particularly nice - but not overdoing it - today. The store is quite large, and the area to try on clothes was clean. I've been going to this store for years, and I still appreciate the prices, especially on the sales rack. This location has a particularly good sales rack! read more

This location of Gap is just two blocks from the Friendship Heights Metro and is pretty big. It's one level but has an array of men's and women's clothes and a kids section. Staff are abundant and ready to help! read more

Having to buy something to validate parking is nonsense. What if you don't find anything you like. That is lazy and cheap on the part of this gap store. They should pay a fee to the parking company to allow their customers to get free parking with validation. No purchase necessary. They are pushing the payment onto the consumer. This is coming from the mouth of someone with admittedly low standards as to what a clothing store should be, but... this is a pretty stellar Gap. It was organized enough for me to easily find what I was looking for, it was stocked with clothing from all seasons (which I appreciated... no better time than summertime to buy a trench), and the staff were friendly and helpful. Didn't see a dressing room anywhere, though, but that could have been my eyes deceiving me. Anyway, it's a solid store that provides a great selection of quality clothes. No real complaints from me. read more
