We went there looking for a long sleeve tee for my husband. They had a few but not they style he was looking for. He wanted them to have a smooth neckline, not a undershirt neckline, the ones that are ribbed. They had a lot of nice women's sweaters that I liked, but they were all out of my price range. They had a few things on there clearance rack that looked promising, but still out of my price range for items that look like they come out of my closet. I came in on a Sunday morning after strolling through the neighborhood. After picking up some donuts from down the street my sister suggested that we go in to do some shopping... feeling a bit embarrassed about being in sweats & having a handful of donut bags in my hand I said no but she insisted. I am so glad she did because this has been the BEST shopping experience I have had. I was looking for some items for my toddler for our Disneyland trip and found a few things. Went to the counter to pay and the lovely gentleman that helped me check out gave me a tip to look for items in a certain section. After checking out, my toddler asked if he can use the bathroom. The associate quickly helped us open the bathroom and asked me for my son's size. When I came back he had a whole outfit picked out and I immediately said yes & picked out many more items. This has been the best experience given that my son has autism and sometimes having him with me while shopping gets overwhelming (autism parents know the struggle). A million times thank you! I purchased some jeans GAP online during at 50% off sale. However, one pair did not fit well and I wanted to exchange it for a slim cut. Not having had to do an online return, I text chatted with a customer service rep and she explained the steps to return the pants, reorder and pay for the new pants and that it would take up to 25 business days for my return to be processed and credit to be issued. Not wanting to deal with the process, I decided to do the exchange at a store. GAP has been closing many locations and stores are few and far in between. Luckily the nearest store was only 9 miles away at the Lakeshore area and I found a parking space down the block. There was no wait and I was able to walk up to the cashier and explained my intent to do an exchange. She said I would be credited for my purchase, but I would have to purchase the new jeans at the current price and not at the price I paid, which didn't make sense. She said she would get a manager to help me. A manager came and I explained my situation and he checked if the pants I wanted was in stock and it wasn't. So he ordered it online and it would be sent to me and processed my return. The pants went down in price so I even go a credit for the difference. I was happy to get my exchange done at the store and not have to deal with the steps required for an online return. It was not simple like a return on Amazon. Though the cashier did not understand the exchange I wanted to transact, I appreciated that the manager made the exchange transaction seamlessly. read more

Gap is where I go for my jeans, and every now and then I do buy a coat here during the winter when they are having a sale or gap cash promotion. It's rare I buy anything full price unless I find an amazing fitting pair of jeans and they're not on sale. Outside of that, Gap is great for stocking stuffer items for the holidays. This location is convenient and near the lake, food, snacks, and Trader Joe's so half of this review is about the location. The other half of this review is about this amazing shacket I found on sale for under $100. I'm almost certain it's 50% wool - it is mixed material with wool for sure -, its "light enough" weight, and good quality. I always like to have something wool to wear in the winter, especially if it's not heavy. This fit the bill. read more

It has a 40% off sign. Okay, I love the color of the jacket and we walk in. Greeter is nice and helpful. He directs us to the section where the jackets are. I haven't been in this GAP store in over 15 years. I shopped here often whenever I had a 30% discount card for family & friends back in the days. Yep, I had a close relative who worked here for about 10 years as a retail clerk part time and she gave me the card. I have some of the turtlenecks, sweaters and ladies tee that I bought at that time. They're still in wearable condition. However, in recent years when I was at another GAP store in SF doing some window shopping, I noticed the quality of some of the clothing was not what it used to be. I stayed away. My husband and I meet Tiara while we are waiting to purchase the jacket. Apparently she knows our relative and asks us to say hello to her. Customer service is good. Because I haven't used my GAP Visa Card in a long time, the cashier has to process necessary information to issue a new Visa card. The drawback on this credit card is the APR, which is not my cup of tea. It is high, as in 27.74%. The other drawback that I had with the GAP in the past was their method of payment. They did not accept payments at the store. One had to mail the payment to the East Coast. Another reason I stayed away. The original cost of the jacket is $148.00. With 40% off and another two discounts, the total discount saving is $84.06. Final price with tax included is $69.85. My honey-do has given me cash for the jacket. I am happy and so is he. It's an early birthday gift. When the bill arrives in the mail, I will have funds available to pay it off. I don't like high APR's. Finally, a 3 star rating is all I can muster for this GAP. In a span of one year I've only shopped here twice. It always looks like there would be tons of options but once you go through the stock, I don't usually find too many preferred choices. I'm usually an XS or 0 size so that can be a challenge too finding leftover stock with the right size and price. I usually look for good prices and good material like cotton as most of other synthetic stuff don't go well with me skin. I wish they had more organic cotton/linen options. However, I did visit recently due to their 40% discount otherwise Gap is pretty expensive. I picked 3 shorts $ 15 each (original price was $45 which I would never buy as it is too expensive) and 2 simple t shirts with a small pocket for less than 12$ each. I liked the material of both shorts and shirts and was happy I only paid 75$ total for the 5 things I bought. They often have a giant signs everywhere saying "50% off entire store!" with small print stipulating: One at full price, one at 50% once inside... But the price is often doubled. For example jeans are around 60 or 70 bucks... (which is crazy) It's The Gap ffs LOL not genuine Levi's. Gap will occasionally have a decent jackets, but they are 130 bucks+... for a low grade jacket that will fall apart in months. The Gap aims farrrr too high with pricing for what they actually deliver. The women's section isn't bad, but the men's section is wayyyy overpriced with very limited options. This isn't the greatest Gap I have ever been to. Far from it, actually, but if you need a tshirt or have nothing else to do but window shop, then this satisfies the requirement. The store doesn't have as large of a selection as other Gap stores because they stuffed the childrens' and athletic wear lines into this store, whereas other locations have them split into three dinstict shops. Maybe because of the neighborhood, I have been asked to show my ID when using a credit card, which I don't always carry with me when I am only out on a short walk. (Yes, I am a spontaneous shopper...) In that instance, I left without making a purchase because it was not worth walking the couple blocks to go home and get my ID and come back for two tank tops that were on sale for $8. The lines are often long and slow and like I had mentioned earlier, the selection is small so they may not have what is available online or at another Gap, so don't get your hopes up. read more

I initially purchased a whole wardrobe for my twins at the Emeryville location. I usually don't do the back to school shoping, but had the sudden urge to splurge, (twin boys starting pre-school). bought a bunch of stuff, they offered a credit card, saved over 50% was a great experience. After buying everything in the wrong size, i needed to exchange everything so i decided to check out the lakeshore location and hope they would facilitate this unusually large transaction. I was concerned i would not get the same savings as i did when i opened up the credit card. I was greeted by the GM and he assured me, "We are going to take care of your return, anything you need I will make sure you get the same discount you did previously." Feeling reassured i walked around the store and replaced all the items with same or similar stuff. They were just as friendly and even more helpful then the Emeryville location. I told her well you are obligated to give me the price marked in a nice wat, she said I can do that if you ask- in a shitty tone. Then supposedly adjusted it. I understand we're all dealing with a Pandemic and COVID has affected many businesses hours, but the constant change in having random open hours is extremely ridiculous and annoyingly bothersome to say the least. I literally just drove a solid hour to one of the Gaps that's closest to me to find out their closed! I literally went to the store hours online and it showed so many different store hours. The actual Gap location in Oakland shows 8pm, another showed 7pm, get to the store racing against the clock to find out that they in fact closed at 6pm! Please stick to some consistent hours or please update your online hours so that your clients are aware of the changes. There are no closer Gap stores located near me and to waste my gas and time trying to pick up my items when your store hours keep randomly changing will definitely keep me from shopping here. read more

You know you're a regular somewhere when the employees stop you on the street to say hello and how's "that thing you're dealing with" and while I'm simultaneously processing who this person is since they're outside of their domain, I realize I overshare personal details. I've been coming to this store since they opened, about 20 years ago(?!). Recently, I've been dropping in every weekend to buy gifts for friend's kids (an overseas Gap store is a lot more expensive than U.S. Gap). I receive great service here, the staff is friendly, and they help me look for products that aren't on the shelves. If the final size is on the mannequin, they kindly strip it for me. I hate to share that they have restrooms (lest the info gets out), but they are decently maintained and there's not too many options on that side of the street. Lakeshore Ave. used to have a Baby Gap in addition to this Gap. So since the Baby Gap closed, it has eaten into the real estate for adult clothes at this location. In my opinion, there's a bit too many novelty t-shirts in the men's section, but I suppose that's what sells these days. Some of the dressing rooms are showing some age, but nothing is falling down--especially not their skinny jeans. ZERO stars for the way the STORE MANAGER - JAMES treats customers!!!!!!!!! I bought a pair of yoga pants one week ago, and after I washed them in cold water and air dried them they shrunk in length by 3-4 inches. Went to return them one week from the purchase date...had receipt and tags...the store manger JAMES would not return them. He treated me like I had done something wrong since I had washed them. I am 6'feet 1inch and I shop the GAP for the pre-shrunk items and I cannot wear these because they are now too short. He tossed the item back and me and said, "I cannot help you here." I thought Gap used to have better customer service than that. I'm afraid to buy anything there now because I probably won't be able to return it for a refund if I'm not happy with it after one wearing. Small, so don't expect anything fancy. But they have the staples: khakis, jeans, t-shirts, light sweaters, and accessories. Alicia's boyfriend here. I bought a shirt about 3 weeks ago at The Gap on Lakeshore... I hate shopping so I tried it on quickly, paid and left - it was on sale. When I actually put it on to wear to work one day... I realized I had zero mobility in it - too small. I tossed it aside and forgot about it for a few weeks. Today I took it in to exchange it - no tags, no receipt, no nothing. They were extremely helpful - totally above and beyond my expectations in customer service. Not only did they allow the return, but when we couldn't find the same shirt in the size I needed, they let me pick out any shirt in a similar price range ($49.50) and only charged me FOR THE SALE PRICE I had originally paid ($32). As far as GAPs go, this one is pretty eh. I stopped in to get my aunt an Xmas present, because I figured if she hated it, at least i could count on her being able to find a GAP pretty much anywhere in the world to return it. Everything here seems overpriced. Nothing is outrageously expensive, but there are plenty of places to get a nicer dress shirt for less than 35 bucks. the only deal today was socks - on sale 3 for 15 bucks for the fancy soft semi-cashmere kind. So guess what everyone - that's what you're getting for xmas, because that's the only thing I could afford in this store and I was too tired to trudge on. also, on a whim i tried on a dress here and pushed the little button in the dressing room that is supposed to notify a sales person to come help you, get you another size, etc. despite being the only person in the dressing room, no one ever showed up, so i bailed on the dress. and when I went to check out, i noticed lip balm on sale at the counter. I asked the sales dude if it was the tinted kind or the plain non-colored kind (since i was going to grab one for my brother) but he had no idea. so bah humbug to the service here too. read more

Some observations about the Lakeshore store... I went in this morning and had to wait in line for about 10 minutes. The salesperson ringing us up by the name of Anita was trying her hardest but the line was long and a customer was trying to open a credit account. She asked another person by the name of Tiara for help but Tiara told her "you're the only one ringing today" and then only started ringing people up when she noticed her friend in line and proceeded to chat with her friend while ringing up a customer who she a) didn't greet and b) didn't fold that woman's purchases, she crumpled the woman's sweater into a ball. I think Tiara may have been a manager. But props to Anita for trying her hardest with minimal help and still maintaining a cheerful demeanor. read more

One pair of size 8 pants fits like the next, and I find it very helpful that they vary the lengths of the pants so I can buy something that doesn't require altering. I recently shopped at the Gap location on Lakeshore in Oakland, CA. I was making a return outside the normal time frame, but all tags were attached and I had the receipt. As a busy mom with an active pre-schooler, it was hard to get to the store and shop with my little one. While I expected rejection, Monica, the store manager, was fantastic. She not only allowed me to get store credit, but encouraged me to shop despite my hesitation with my pre-schooler in tow. Her team even helped me maximize my dollars to find just the right products. Kudos to Monica and her team for a great experience. It not only gave me a chance to feel comfortable shopping with my child, but ensured great value for my dollar. Not sure what is up with this store, but stopped in briefly today and the dressing rooms were all a mess, with tons of clothes left in each room and a big pile of clothes left waiting to be put back on the racks. Meanwhile, the staff was lounging around talking to each other. No one greeted me or asked if I needed help during my visit and no one was manning the dressing rooms. They really ought to hire people that want to work in retail, understand the importance of customer service, and are focused on the job rather than socializing. read more
