I had a very disappointing experience with this garage door company. They charged me $900 for a spring replacement, which I feel was extremely overpriced. The technician arrived late without any notice and parked in my driveway. To make matters worse, his vehicle was leaking oil onto my driveway. When I pointed it out, he refused to clean it up or take responsibility for the mess. After completing the job, he also left the old garage door spring lying on the garage floor and didn't bother to remove it. The tech for this place came to look at the problem and without doing anything except listening to the garage door opener said the motherboard was fried and I needed a new opener. As soon as I opened the garage for Bailey, the technician, he immediately knew what the issue was. Josh from Garage Door Medics came by today to help us with a malfunctioning garage door button. Our current set-up is over 15 years old, and after completing his examination Josh clearly explained how the button, coil, ball bearings and other elements were in danger of failing. Our motor was also about 15 years old and due to fail soon. This is about the normal lifespan for a garage door but I was still hoping to postpone such a big job for a few more years. The big shock was how affordable it was for Josh to replace everything right there on the spot rather than do it piecemeal over the next few years. Instead of just fixing the coil and the button, we now have an entirely new coil, button, safety kit, motor and outside keypad, all backed up by long-term warranties. The piece of mind and convenience of not worrying about the door itself failing to open at the worst possible moment is another factor. Josh completed the job in the spot in less than three hours and did a great job explaining all the changes. Paying for home improvements is never fun but I have worked with a lot of vendors for my personal residence and my rental property and I would say this was a great experience. The repairs they did over a year ago slowly started to fail and cause more problems. Oh course, what they do is guaranteed for only a year. Brackets that were replaced were not installed properly and lined up, so they put stress on the other ones which failed over time. Mom damaged the garage door when she bumped into it -- stepping on the gas pedal instead of the brakes. The door itself was only slightly bent but still operable, until it got stuck at the top. In our neighborhood, i've biked past a Garage Door Medics truck many times -- and so, this company was our first choice during this emergency. The receptionist was very accommodating and was able to get us scheduled the same day i called -- and RJ was even early. He was efficient, did a very good job at straightening the door that even my brother thought we had installed a NEW door! RJ put in two struts, a double-spring, changed a whole line of hinges (for "free"), added a safety lock -- and fixed an old Genie motor, for "free" -- but it was a limping stop'n'go operation -- so we decided to just keep it manual like before. But it "miraculously" worked this morning, two days later. But we had no remote to operate it. i called about it early this morning, and Preston came by with a new remote -- REALLY free -- within the time frame scheduled. He took the time to check the motor light, to make sure it would turn off after the 4 minutes allotted in the timer. (But after he had already left, the automatic mechanism started to screech as the door rolled up and down... may have to call about it after this 3-day holiday, since GDM guarantees workmanship for 30 days.) i was told that the labor was included with the parts cost. Because i'm always concerned about my mom getting the best work for her limited income, i checked out online some other possible prices for garage door repairs.
