A great bar/event space for those smaller scaled events. Have been here now four times for shows. The inside of Garcia's is always clean. The best part is there is around the room seating against the wall whether you're there for a show or just pre-show drinks before going to the Cap. They have snacks instead of food which is more than fine for a bar. 3 stars because the individual bathrooms they have are usually quite chaotic. They either are a complete mess or I've walked in to use the restroom and someone just finished smoking a cigarette in one. read more

I love this place! I come here a lot after shows. If go to a show at The Capitol, it's a very convenient place. There's always a great vibe and lots of people. Although it is sometimes crowded, the wait is never that long and there is plenty of seating. They have a great selection of drinks and a variety of beers on tap and in cans. I would highly recommend this place, if you're in the area and looking for a new place to go - they also have a lot of great bands and a stage in the back, where you can watch them perform. read more

I've been a huge fan of "The Cap' for many years, literally one of my favorite venues for live music in the Country. Last night however was the first time I've seen a show in the adjoining bar, Garcia's, which is named after Grateful Dead founder Jerry Garcia. This is a fantastic, intimate venue that holds less than 200 people. A small stage, excellent sound and lighting. Not a "bad seat in the house" (actually, there are no seats, and they remove the bar stools too). Great selection of craft beers, and get your tickets in advance as the place can sell out quickly. Ordered a Makers Mark- it was $24 and served not at all in the way I ordered it, by an unnecessarily rude bartender. Here's how it went: First the bartender did her best to ignore me, even though there was 15' of empty space on either side of me at the bar, and I was actively trying to get someone's attention... Then she came over and said "YES?". I assumed she was bitter because she was tending to yet another Dead cover band's [essentially] private party of 20 or so yuppies and their parents - but at the same time thought it was a little unfair since I had just arrived (late), it was my first drink, and I was polite. I asked for a Maker's Mark with "a few ice cubes". The bartender FILLED a plastic cup to the top with crushed ice and poured some makers on it. Then threw the cup in front of me and yelled "$24". The only thing worse than the randomly high price-tag was the absurd amount of ice that instantly liquified and turned the drink into bourbon water in a matter of seconds. I don't think this bartender has ever had bourbon in her life if she thinks thats an acceptable way to serve it...can we agree on that? Garcia's postures itself as a more casual bar/venue and books average/amateur bands, so a $24 price tag for standard bourbon is mind-blowingly high and doesn't seem at all justified. I could almost understand $24 if you are at an arena watching a giant, popular band perform. But Garcia's?? Pabst Blue Ribbon was the cheapest beer at $8....... tragedy. I'll leave talking about the acoustics (or lack there of) for another time. read more

Pros: Xlnt live bands. Very good selection of craft beers. Reasonable cover charge. Cons: Very expensive drinks. $10-$12 draft beers, in small plastic cups? Ridiculous. Drop your prices a bit. They are at least $4 too high. You're not on a rooftop of a Manhattan hi-rise. Also, while I appreciate the need for safety, a full pat-down search is rather invasive, esp for a bar. read more

Second visit here. .in town for family visit saw Soulshine was playing and knew i had a mission. Keep in mind we are in middle of 100 year summer heat wave. We just came from nearby restaurant whose AC was not working. We arrived early to learn how pricey the drinks were. Amongst a sea of grimy bars in Port Chester, lies a diamond in the rough - Garcia's. I've lived in Port Chester for a while now, and while the restaurant scene has begun to boom, the bar scene left something to be desired. Garcia's opened 9 months after the reopening of The Capitol theatre, and is attached to the theatre. Garcia's boasts a hefty collection of Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia swag (including a bronzed mold of Jerry's actual hand, complete with the missing finger). Its not just a dead head bar though, and it shouldn't be either - its a place that's totally focused on music and quality bar service & drinks. The bartenders are all very friendly and tend the bar well. Garcia's has a great beer selection along with wine, and the bartenders can shake up any cocktail you want. Garcia's has live music most nights of the week, and yes - the music is more than JUST dead-music. The sound in the bar is great - like that of The Cap, the management takes great care in how the live music is being heard. Its not very often that you visit a bar that has a full time lighting and sound guy! The care and quality really shows in this place, and its a blessing for Port Chester. The bar is also used as a lounge area before, during and after shows at The Cap. While I love the Cap, I only like Garcia's. Door guys are jerks, I don't like getting kicked out right after the band finishes and the number of quality bands that pass through are far a few between. I'd be there every weekend night if there was something worthwhile to see. And my biggest issue - the sound. I just hate it. Every band I see there, no matter how big, famous or formerly famous, sounds like crap. I suspect it's combination of the room acoustics, bad mixing and under performing sound system. read more

Garcia's opened shortly after the Capitol Theater reopened and it is a very welcome addition to the Westchester Avenue area of Port Chester. It is attached to the Capitol and during concerts, they show the concert on the big screen. This bar is unique. It is named for Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead and its focus is on music, good bar service and ambience and good drinks. Garcia's has live music mosts nights and the acoustics are amazing! This place is not just an average bar. The owners take excellent care to make this a place of quality and enjoyment. I went to Garcia's for the very first time last night. First impression, I really don't like being frisked, and you should tell people that the "security" staff will do that. At one point he looked at me suspiciously when he felt a lighter in my pocket. Sorry, that's not classy at all or professional. Ridiculous. Then I proceeded to the bar and and the same man pointed me to the other man standing at the wooden podium. That man seemed to insinuate that I tried to avoid him to pay the cover charge. After that nonsense, I enjoyed a great band, some good drinks and being with friends. I hope you clean up your act. Seems like a great venue. I would say FIVE STARS for Music and Ambiance and FOUR STARS for Location-BUT ONLY TWO STARS for VALUE (COST=$$$$). Most beers just went up to $9 for a sixteen ounce plastic cup. They use plastic cups for all of their drinks. Hard Liquire Drinks up to $20 (premium pours). Shit's expensive. Soft Drinks and Water, reasonable. MUSIC: $$$$$ - Great Grateful Dead and Jamband Music 4-5 days a week. I would Highly Recommend this place. Stick with the soft drinks or water. Admission is usually $15 which is middle of the rd. A GOOD ALTERNATIVE IS "THE LITTLE PUB" in Cos Cob, Connecticut (Greenwich). Great Music and food. No cover and much cheaper. Very social people and valet parking (I think tip only). This place is great. My only complaint? The stadium-level beer prices! Holy mackerel! Paying $8 for a Newcastle nut brown is a très chér, no? Other than that, the place hit it out of the ballpark. Amazing sound quality. Super friendly bartenders. Great location. Awesome decor. And even though the beer was a little pricy, I can't complain too much, because the show was only $7 and the selection of beer available for such a small venue was pretty impressive! If I have the chance to catch another show here in the future, I'll definitely be making the hour-long drive to Port Chester again. read more

The last time I was near this place we decided not to even go in. Let's just say the curb appeal was a little off-putting. Mostly old men with grey hair hanging out in front smoking cigarettes. My friend really wanted to go in so I said FINE! One drink, but just ONE! We were barhoping on foot in the Port Chester area and had come from another bar so naturally my first point of interest was finding the bathroom ASAP. The bartender pointed it out and my friend and I began walking over. We walk up and there is a short line. Some idiot walks through from the other way completely cutting the entire line. I said excuse me there is a line! The guy was clearly wasted and ignored me and I was like have some manners and let my friend go because she was next. This guy was a total perv, he walked into the bathroom anyway and then was trying to lure us in with him. Seriously? That was just distgusting. My friend walked into the next available bathroom and unfortunately I had to deal with this scumbag yet again when he walked out. I went into the bathroom after him and he was making nasty comments and instead of holding the door he tried to slam it shut on me so I kicked him. What the hell is wrong with people. I thought hippies were supposed to be friendly. What happened to the Greatful Dead vibe in this place. As soon as I walked out I looked to see if he was still there because I was going to report him to the bouncer. I think he knew better because he was no where to be found when I got back to the bar. We had our drink with no futher incidents but I felt the need to escort all the girls to the bathroom that were in our group after that in case there were more douchebags. We ran into a few other patrons that were nice enough to let my friends go ahead of them which I thought was very courteous of them. Basically this one bad apple ruined my entire time here. Good thing they were closing anyway because I really didn't want to stick around. The band was done and I dont think there were enough people inside to constitute keeping the bar going so after we had our drink they shouted last call. Aside from our major drama my summary is... Not my kind of scene, they don't have stella, the bathrooms were filthy. The beer I did have which the bartender was saying was "close" to stella was not anywhere near close to stella and had some horrible aftertaste. I kind of wished I asked what it was so I could make sure to never drink it again. The bartender was nice though and I guess she tried. I have no desire to return or recommend this place to anyone else. The only way I would ever end up here again is if I was going to a show at the Capitol Theater which this bar is attached to. read more

I attended the Phil Lesh show and a large black and white sign on Garcia's CLEARLY indicated that ticket holders were guaranteed admittance but others were not and would also pay a cover charge. I arrived with my ticket and wristband from the show and waited. 40 minutes, then the doorman insisted we pay him - when I politely referenced the large black and white sign behind him regarding the admission guarantee - he told us he didn't care what it said, threatened us, then he insisted payment. I don't care about the $5 but it made no sense, given the sign, and the belligerent attitude was inappropriate. Surely our $ went in his pocket and not Garcia's or the Cap. BTW - I know what you're thinking and...for the record,we are normal, not a swarm of wooks. read more

I liked Garcia's. We saw an acoustic show there over Thanksgiving weekend. Overall it was fine, but the drinks are crazy expensive, like 8 dollars for a corona expensive, which is why I'm only giving it three starts. Also, there really isn't enough space for a large crowd to be able to see the stage. I also really don't understand the bathrooms being behind the stage so everyone has to fight through the crowd to get to them... I think if I had gone to a smaller show I would have liked the venue a lot better but this was too many people, not enough room, and no real crowd management. read more

Grabbed a beer better before seeing Gov't Mule at the capitol theater. A bit pricey, but to be expected since it is attached to the venue. The place is not tacky, and the atmosphere is pretty good. Beautiful bar. When the Capitol re-opened this space was run down and empty. It looks like an HGTV product now. Really clean, great lighting, and nice homage to Jerry. The beer selection is good too, which is obviously important bc it's a bar. Only complaint is the unisex bathrooms... Men drinking can be a little bit messy for us ladies to deal with. read more

Why even have a closing time of 12am online when you kick paying customers out at 10:45? It was so abrupt and rude, we all had to awkwardly stand on the curb to say goodbye to each other. After charging us $10 for cover I expect to be there for more than 2 hours. Overpriced and not even worth it. If you charge me $9 for a beer I might as well go to a nice bar in Manhattan. You can make so much more money by not having your bouncer kick out paying customers over an hour before your closing time. Will absolutely not return or recommend. read more

Love this place for shows! It's nice to have a spot to see the lesser-known bands in a convenient location right next to the metro north. The sound is surprisingly good for a small venue and there's always enough space to stand near or far from the stage. The bartenders are attentive and quick however the beer prices are too high. If I'm paying $7 to see a band, I don't want to pay $8 a beer! Other than that, great venue. read more
