We thought it was real authentic Mexican food per the reviews but we got tacos essentially from Taco Bell and they called them " authentic Mexican tacos " , rice was terrible , it smelled and tastes like the rice you buy at Walmart and add water and stick in the microwave. Whenever we crave for brunch mexican food, the first thing that comes into our mind is, the Garcia's. Honestly, I am not the only fan of this mexican restaurant, but most of my family members and relatives as well. They not only have the great location and service, but mainly they have delicious meal to offer too. They have a wide variety of menu list and its not a problem if you ask to make a little twist on the ingredients or the stuff that goes with the package of each meal. (I usually don't like beans so I always request not to include it and they try to substitute or add more papas or carne) I like their carne adovada and chicharones. Coffee and drinks are bottomless. I like the way how servers anticipate or make sure that your glass or cup is always full. By the way, I have to give credit to the servers, they really do their best to make customers feel important and well-served. Oh man, Garcia's is a relatively new find for me. I grew up on the Westside and don't think I'd ever been to Garcia's. While more recently moving my life to the east side, I was introduced to Garcias by my boyfriend. I'm sorry I didn't go to Garcia's sooner. (It's like the time I finally tried salami in my mid-twenties and felt sad that I'd spent 2 decades without it in my life.) Anyway, the place is decorated a little excessively but it's kind of fun. Service has never been really great and expect diner coffee but the tortillas are heaven! They remind me of my grandma's tortillas. Nice and thick and big and delicious! Ordered through their website (DoorDash) and the food was ready 30 minutes before the initial time provided- which can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. We ordered a bunch of things, including tacos, burrito, combo plate, and taquitos. I'd say the best of all the items was the carne adovado burrito, but even then, it pales in comparison to other ones we've had. For many of the other items, things were dry (meat, beans, tamale)...overall, an underwhelming meal. Their prices are hard to beat, yes, but you get what you pay for. The carne adovada and red chile sauce were outstanding - much better than my earlier visit when I had rellanos with green chile sauce. I raised my rating by two stars as a result. After thinking more about the rellanos I had a few days ago, it seems to me that the chiles were not roasted but crunchy instead and the coating dissolved into the sauce. (I went somewhere else to get good ones the next day). So, some menu items are great and some should be avoided. read more

Was craving chicharrones this morning, and my littlw girl lives on pancakes, so Garcia's it was. Got the Indian taco which happened to be today's special, and k got baby cakes w strawberries, whipped cream and bacon. My taco filled the platr with love, joy, chile and deliciousness. My side of chicharrones were PERFECT! Crunchy, fatty, hint of salt. Bacon was nice and crisp. Chile full of home made flavor, but not hot at all. K was letting out little mmmmmms every time she took a bite, but stopped long enough to ask how many numbers I gave breakfast. She was appalled when I answered 10. When I asked how many numbers she gave it, she said "A MILLION!" and went back to mmmmm mmmmmm mmmming. She is now the newest horchata lover thanks to Garcias. Service was great! Only downside is it get busy on weekends but quite efficient getting orders and waiter/waitress often check in for anything you need for your table and that's how you feel that you are taken care of and considered a valued customer. I am definitely a fan of the Garcia's chain here in town. Our family has been coming here for years. The food is great, consistent and 100% New Mexican. 99% of the time I order the flat ground beef enchilada's, with green chile and and egg on the top (of course!) or the Huevos Rancheros. Always beans and papas on the side with a tortilla and fluffly sopapilla. My order as stated above has always been consistent. I know what I'm going to get every time I sit down at Garcia's. Always a plus is the option to order a beer or glass of wine. Of course this isn't going to be anything exceptionally fancy, but if you want a beer you can have one. Love their tortillas. Nice and thick, homemade goodness!! Sopapilla's are awesome too...add a little honey and you are in heaven. I will say that the last few times we've been to Garcia's, the staff (with an exception of a few) has not been very friendly. I haven't written a Yelp review in a long time, but was so upset yesterday I had to now. This is specifically in reference to the 4th st. & Griegos location of Garcia's. Since the pandemic started, we order a bulk family meal every Sunday and try to support local as much as possible. Yesterday we chose Garcia's. I have an underlying health condition, so we do curbside pickups only. We try not to do deliveries if possible to make sure all the money goes directly to the restaurant. Yesterday, we placed an order (as per their regular menu) for 12 chicken flautas and some various sides like rice, beans, etc. The order was placed at 1:00pm with a pickup time scheduled for 1:45. We were asked for name and phone number. At 1:45 we arrived at Garcia's and parked in one of the specifically numbered curbside pickup parking spaces. We followed instructions and called the number to say we arrived and what space we were in. After 15 minutes, and observing everyone else around us getting their orders - in fact one car had received their order, another car parked in that same previous space and got their order also - my other half decided he was going to have to go in to find out what was going on. After almost another 15 minutes of him being inside, I started basically having a panic attack. I was shaking and crying. There is a reason we only do curbside as well as a reason indoor dining is closed, and I did NOT want him to be inside so long. I called the number again, and a manager said she would look for him. He finally came out and he was visibly upset as well. He said they told him "it wasn't quite ready," took his payment (they did not have on line ordering/payment working), and told him to wait right there. Clearly, they had not even started the order. Everything we ordered should have basically been cooked anyway and just needed to be packaged, except for dropping the flautas in the fryer real quick. Keep in mind, it had already been an hour since we placed the order! They had our parking space number, and our phone number. They should have apologized, and offered to bring it ASAP to the car (and probably offered to bring something to drink out for free). NOT ask him to stand inside and wait. This is sooooo dangerous right now. The manager was well aware of what was going on. She should have made sure they stopped and completed our order right away. When I called her back upset and crying, she said the person who took the order did not write down the time, so they didn't know when to start it. Well, you had our phone number, so you could have called and asked. And, even if not, when we called and gave our name and parking space, there is no way it should have taken another half hour total. It was not a cheap order and it was already paid so he didn't leave without it. The manager said she would talk to staff and that she would call us back about it. (Why, I don't really know, since I will never be going back there.) Anyway, she didn't follow through with that either. She just wanted me off the phone and didn't want to deal with it. When we got to the house, I picked up the bag and saw a receipt with the order time of 12:54, and in BIG BLACK SHARPIE 1:45 written on it. So, the person taking the order didn't write down the time, huh?!?!? Wrong. I took a pic of the receipt, but don't want to post it here because the phone number is on it. Yep, the phone number is right there with the damn time as well. This type of service would be bad at any time. But this is unbelievable right now. It's not only completely dangerous for the customer, but for their staff as well. I hope this never happens to anyone else, but since they didn't seem to take it very seriously, my hopes are not that high. read more

My first time here. I have been waiting so long to try this place out. I figured I'd check it out since I was in the area. A friendly staff and very casual dining room. When I got there it was seat yourself. Sat down and received menus from April. Very nice and attentive with our orders. Food was served quick and with some sopapillas too. I had the chicken enchilada special. The only difference was that mine was flat. They have a choice of flat or rolled. I figured I would try flat. Because I've never seen it flat before. I had rice and beans with it as well. Also red chili, I asked for that on the side because I don't ever know when red chili will be too spicy for me. Played it safe and ordered it on the side. Glad I did because it sure had a kick to it. After all that yummy goodness had sopapillas as my dessert. I usually go through the drive-thru on San Mateo but I was in the area so I thought I'd order take out from this location. Mistake. I like the food. It's consistent and they always get the order right. But the rude, unfriendly person who took my order and let it sit on the counter without notifying me, while I sat a few feet away, made me swear I will never patronize this place again. I've waitressed before, and I would never fail to greet customers with a smile or friendly demeanor. Why they put such a sourpuss at the counter is beyond me. When I asked to sub papas for rice she didn't acknowledge so I wasn't sure she heard me. No please or thank you in our exchange except my thanking her for my change. Later, she put a take out bag of food on the counter and walked away. After five minutes of wondering, I got up to inquire, and the nice young man bussing tables checked for me. She came out and said she was "taking care of a problem". Really? You can put the order on the counter, walking past me, but can't take five or ten seconds to let me know it's ready? No excuse! I just have to share a couple of highlights about Garcia's that I didn't dive into last time around. We have been really addicted to the cheese enchiladas, and I mean it, we just came back to Albuquerque from a trip home to Michigan and guess where our first stop was? It's amazing how much I miss this place when I'm away, lol. Adam has tried adding chopped green chile to the inside of the cheese enchiladas and doing red chile outside, with blue corn tortillas and it's amazing! it's almost like a relleno meets an enchilada. I've said it before, but the chips and salsa are some of my favorite in Albuquerque... fresh chips that kind of remind me of Fritos in flavor, with a perfectly spicy salsa. The whole place has a diner feel with a family vibe, which sets it apart from other places in the area. Although I have never met anyone from their kitchen staff, I have to give them a shout-out for always doing a great and consistent job making the food, that's why people keep coming back. That and the dining room employees are happy and welcoming. We always look for Alijah and April when we come in, they remember our names and are such a pleasure to talk to. We are huge Garcia's fans and customers for life! I picture myself old and in the booths by the window, cashing in on my senior discount, and telling the young employees how "chips and salsa used to be only $1 back in my day!" hahahahaha. read more

It's what New Mexican food should be - fresh, simple and inexpensive. Tortillas are made ON SITE, not out of a bag. Potatoes are fresh and moist, not those cubed dry atrocities you get at other places. The chile is hot and how you like it. The waitstaff is experienced and efficient - please give April, Tommie and Liz a hard time on my behalf. It is tradition! People who know good New Mexican go to Garcia's. Unassuming little New Mexican (not Mexican food) diner at the corner of Juan Tabo and Comanche, this little eatery is only ok. My father likes it, perhaps because it reminds of an era gone by. The atmosphere is old and tacky with past Cinco de Mayo decorations, old dark green vinyl booths and half booth half tables, dirty maroon carpet, cheap scratched yellow laminated tables, white cork board ceilings, and beige walls littered with southwestern prints. It's Dollar Store-heavy southwestern motif runs throughout the seating area. There are TVs sparsely located in the dining and counter area. About every other one was on this morning. Parking spaces are a little tight outside so watch your car doors. Lighting is a little dim at night but the neighborhood is decent. There's a WiFi network but probably not theirs and didn't work very well. I prefer Los Quates on Lomas, The Range, Papa Felipe's, or even Weck's to this place. Give it a go if you have to take anyone from the AARP crowd for a bite, there's a senor special. Food Summary: The red and green chile are only ok and vary with heat so ask the wait staff how hot they are before slathering them on your food. Brisket tacos burritos are pretty good. Huevos rancheros, sausage patties, pancakes with berries and cream, and sopapillas are good. The carne adovada and chorizo are ok but only suit a certain style. The chicharones can be too hard sometimes. Don't get the "Indian Taco" special, it's not Native American, East Indian, nor much of a taco. Service is usually quick. It's nice to have your coffee filled all the time. Be sure to get one of the ladies to help, as two of the younger guys have already spilled or splattered something on my shirt due to being clumsy. Like I said, it's my dad's influence to attend his news paper reading session here that makes me come to the joint. It's not the best New Mexican food but the service and price are decent. read more
